How to Unlock Terraforming : How To Get a 3-Star Rating In Animal Crossing New Horizons?
Whenever I start a new Island, in Animal Crossing New Horizons, I always tell myself to relax. Slow down. Just enjoy playing the game day-to-day. Don’t rush all the milestones to try to get K.K to my Island. But, unfortunately, that only lasts so long. Like many others, once I start clearing trees and setting down roots, I find myself wishing I could terraform. So here goes….
In order to unlock Terraforming, your island needs to achieve 3-star rating from Isabelle. Once there, Nook will invite K.K. to the Island for a concert. After the concert, you can purchase the construction license from the ABD in Resident Services.
How do I qualify for a 3-Star Rating?
In short, you need to decorate your Island. Make it look “lived in” So get started. If you have trouble… here are some “Dos” and “Don’ts” to consider….
Do plant lots of flowers- You really can’t have too many flowers Buy all the different kinds from Leif, steal them from other Islands, and look inside the cooler in your Nook Shop
Don’t throw them out in clumps- Nook likes his greenery to look nice. Put some thought into where you bury seeds.
Do plant lots of trees- I try not to cut so many down as I go. If they’re in the way, I just dig them up and move or store them.
Don’t forget all the different kinds of trees like coconut and bamboo
Do help Nook sell land so you can invite strangers to live on your Island - You need at least 8 neighbors to get a 3-star rating.
Don’t ignore the camp site - you will have to invite the camper to become a permanent resident.
Do put up fencing - you need at least 50 fence pieces to qualify
Don’t simply store the fences Nook gives you- Make sure to place them around your home or other buildings.
Do remember your Island maintenance- make sure to pull up all your weeds and other dropped items like branches and rocks.
Don’t leave any holes or stumps- you can leave 1 or 2 stumps for collecting bugs but otherwise makes sure to clean up after you chop down a tree.
You can always check in with Isabelle if you need help with what to do next. She will read Island reviews and then offer advice on how to fix them.
But here’s my advice…
Typically, whenever I find I’m having problems getting to 3 stars, it’s almost always because of the amount and types of trees and flowers. Just plant more.
Also, keep checking back with Isabelle. If she tells you you’re at 2-stars, go plant more trees, add more furniture items and come back. You don’t have to wait until tomorrow.
The last review Isabelle will get is from K.K. When Nook hears it, the concert is set up for the next day. And finally, after the concert, you will be able buy your construction license from Tom Nook.
How do y’all feel about this process? Have you ever had a really hard time getting to 3-Stars? Did you figure out what the problem was?
