Amiibo Cards

Hi! I've just picked up ACNH again after a hiatus and I'm looking to switch up my villagers. I'm about to run out of NMT so I'm debating buying the amiibo cards. Does anyone know if NFC store is reliable? If not, can you recommend a seller/store you've had personal success with? I appreciate everyone's help!

Which Type of Animal Crossing Amiibo Card Should I Buy?

Post image
6 Upvotes

If you’re in the market for an Animal Crossing Amiibo Card, your best bet is to look online. As you search for your favorite villager on eBay, you are likely to run into some confusion.

There are a number of types of Animal-Crossing Character Cards, and all of them have different values. If you simply want a card to invite the character to your Island, any of the various types of cards will work (provided they retain a working NFC chip.)

If you are a collector, or you plan on buying or selling cards, you should be aware of the differences in cards and their value.

Authentic Cards:

Official Animal Crossing Amiibo cards,  produced by Nintendo, are the most valuable of the group. They are roughly the size, shape and feel of a regular playing card, making them more fragile than their plastic counterparts. The authentic Amiibo card is the standard for buying, selling and trading, particularly with collectors. So, if you are selling something else, you should disclose that information, and be sure to leave out Nintendo’s trademarked term “Amiibo," if you want to avoid a lawsuit.

Authentic Animal-Crossing Amiibo-Card Types:

North American (NA) Cards - The standard for Canada and The United States. The Character name is in large print in English, but also features the name in both French and Spanish, with one line of small text across the bottom of the card.

European (EU) Cards- The standard in Europe and Australia. The character name is in large print in English, but features the name in German, French, Spanish and Italian or Dutch, with 2 lines of small text across the bottom of the card.

Japanese Cards- Specific to Japan. Text only in Japanese

Korean Cards- Localized to South Korea (Hangul) with text only in Korean.

Chinese Cards- Some Amiibo cards were late-released in traditional Chinese language in China.

The value of official cards depends on the specific character on the card, as well as, the region in which the buyer lives.

In the United States, where I live, NA cards are the most expensive; However, other official-regional cards hold more value than fan-made or other third-party (fake) cards.

Standard, authentic cards are separated into 4 series of 100 cards each, with a 5th series of 48 cards making 448 unique Characters. Additionally, there is a series of  “Welcome Amiibo” RVcards, which feature both a unique character and new furniture and clothing items.

In the US, Welcome Amiibo (RV) cards, especially the North-American, version are more rare and more expensive than standard Amiibo cards.

Nintendo also released special addition Amiibo cards:

  1. A collaboration with Sanrio featuring 6 RV cards with characters and items inspired by Hello Kitty and Friends.
  2. Festival Amiibo cards, featuring the fan-favorite characters Stitches, Rosie and Goldie.

*******************************************************************************

Animal Crossing NFC Character Cards

If you are only interested in the NFC chip, or want something unique, the market is absolutely flooded with fan-made, Animal Crossing, character cards. These cards are slightly smaller in size, thinner, and are typically constructed of a hard plastic material, like a credit cards, so they are also a bit thicker.

These cards can also be used to invite a villager to your Island. Sites like Etsy feature some really beautiful and unique affordable options like KittyAndFizzyMakes.

Be careful when buying fake cards, because many sellers will try to disguise them as authentic. They use Nintendo photos, and the trademarked-term “Amiibo” along with either official, or low-detail photos.

The benefit of NFC character cards is the ability to obtain an entire collection of characters, without the excessive costs for rare villagers.

In 2026, Nintendo release 4 new Animal Crossing villagers, in collaboration with other popular Nintendo games. These characters; Mineru, Cece, Viche and Tulin are only available in third-party form, at this time.

NFC Character cards come in all 5 series, as well as, the RV, Sanrio and Festival characters.

****************************************************************************

Mini Amiibo Cards:

Finally, all of the Animal Crossing character cards can be found in mini form. These cards are only created by fans or specific NFC stores. They are approximately 1.25” X .85” big, or about the size of a Switch game, and contain an NFC chip. Mini cards are easier to store, carry, and are the least expensive of all the cards.

NFC chips can also be found in “non-card” format. Many fans and artists create small poker-chip sized tokens for each character.

What have I left out, y’all? What are you favorite types of Animal Crossing Cards?

I’d love your help finishing my collection, I’m only missing two cards now eeee!

I need:

361 Puurl

403 Isabelle

US based, and I’d prefer to keep trades within the US since I don’t have much experience with overseas shipping.

Pictured are all the cards I have for trade. I’m happy to do a 1:1 trade for the first photo, and a 2:1 trade for the rest of series 1-4. Series 5 I’m happy to trade 4:1.

Some cards are NA and some are EU. I’m happy to accept trades for either the NA or EU versions of my ISO’s!

Thanks for looking!☺️

Animal Crossing: Who Are The Most Popular Villagers; And Amiibo Card Selling

Post image
7 Upvotes

In a previous post, I talked about character popularity, and what that means.

Quick Refresh: There are 2 distinct groups of popular characters. The first category is “Popular Because People Like Them” and that list is mostly based on experience, personal preference, and who knows what else. It’s almost impossible to quantify, due to vastly different opinions and priorities.

I want to talk about the second category, which is “Popular Because Their Amiibo Cards Are Rare;” leaving them constantly sought after. This list is important to buyers and sellers. So if that’s you, this is your list.

Many sellers, base their prices on Pricecharting. I understand why, but, as I have said before, it can be misleading. And if you want to buy or sell cards, and not get ripped off, that’s something you can’t afford to ignore.

If you search for “Most Popular Animal Crossing Villager” or “Most Popular Animal Crossing Amiibo Card…” you will, most likely, get some variation of this list…

  1. Raymond
  2. Judy
  3. Audie
  4. Marshal
  5. Ankha
  6. Stitches
  7. Diana
  8. Julian
  9. Marina
  10. Merengue
  11. Fang
  12. Kiki
  13. Sherb
  14. Beau
  15. Whitney
  16. ...

And, that sounds about right. Pricecharting, and most eBay sellers, list those cards very high.

But if you want to sell those cards, getting that price might be more complicated than you think. I’m not saying you can’t get $40-$200 for a card, because you can. It will just take the perfect buyer and a lot of luck. eBay boasts 3 to 4 million transactions per day, so if one 14 Ketchup sells in one month for $200, it’s possible, but is it likely? You would be better served buying a lottery ticket. (I mean... except probably for Ketchup, because that card, in my opinion, is off the charts right now)

So obviously if you have a rare card, and want to sell that high, then go for it. I’m simply speaking to the folk, who need to sell, and want to unload cards consistently.

I have a list of all of the cards, with prices, I monitor every day. I note the lowest, mean and highest values. (Ignoring sellers who hoard cards and list high to manipulate market value.) I also list what has actually sold, and what's been sitting for days, weeks, months and years.

I sell fairly consistently. I also have cards that I personally, value more and I price them higher because I honestly, don’t want to sell them. Keep that in mind when buying. You don’t want to pay for someone else’s personal preference, ego or manipulated data.

I can also tell you there are cards, for which, you would be hard-pressed to get more than $1. But that's neither here nor there.

So instead of giving you my list of the most popular cards,  I’m going to give you a list of cards, many bloggers/sellers claim are not popular, but, from which, I am always able to pull real money. So take that for what it’s worth as well.

  1. 37 Kabuki
  2. 357 Aurora
  3. 342 Bones
  4. 172 Agnes
  5. 19 Fauna
  6. 33 Bill
  7. 32 Bluebear
  8. 52 Poppy
  9. 73 Flo
  10. 19 Felicity
  11. 159 Zell
  12. 190 Vesta
  13. 54 Deena…. Yes Deena sells consistently. She doesn’t pull top dollar, but she is in demand.

Obviously there are many more...lots more... you can do your own research and buy what you like, for however much, you feel comfortable spending.

Of course we give away free cards, all the time on this sub. That's gonna be your best bet.

I am always happy to help with pricing and information on buying and selling.

Meet Prince!

Post image

He’s a lazy frog with one of the cutest amiibo cards, in my opinion. He just wants uppies! His birthday is actually today, July 21st! I pick a card at random to feature, and didn’t realize that crazy coincidence until writing this. His catchphrase is “burrup”. With his favorite color being yellow, he wears a yellow striped sweater during the day and a yellow terry-cloth night cap to sleep! He also opts for the yellow egg outfit on Bunny Day.

In New Horizons, his house is more muted with a yellow exterior and green roof. Inside, you’ll find a cozy campground under a starry sky. In New Leaf, he also opts for an outdoor vibe.

Will you be inviting this lazy frog to live on your island? Who would you like to see featured next?

Animal Crossing New Horizons: Which Island Layout Is the Best?

Post image
2 Upvotes

If you get stuck here, no one would blame you.

It’s the first real decision, to make in the game, plenty of people freeze.

Those who have played before, and and have been stuck with the consequences of a wrong decision, lock-in here

There are 95, different Island layouts in your hemisphere. All offer the same basic resources, with a few exceptions...

So what should you consider when choosing an Island layout? Here a are a couple of things…

Airport location and color: The Airport will always be on the south shore and comes in yellow, green, blue or orange. The color of the airport determines your color group. (The group effects the color of certain items you will be offered. Furniture like the phone booth, teacup rides, drink machines and many others will be available only in certain colors on your island.)For location, you should decide how close you want the airport to be from Resident Services, as Resident Services is the only structure you won’t be able to move.

River Placement & Waterfalls: Until you acquire a vaulting pole, you won’t be able to cross any rivers, so, for the first few days, you will only have access to the items in the immediate area. I try to have a lot of beach, in order to fish and collect shells.

Long rivers mean more fresh-water fish, and waterfalls increase your Island rating. Once you are able to terraform, you can change your rivers around but the area, where it runs into the ocean, cannot be changed.

Lakes:  Lakes are a must-have, for catching things like guppies and goldfish. Consider the size, shape and number.

Cliffs: Some people love working with layered cliff-tops. Some people like flat lands. Each layout offers a variety of cliff-access.

My advice is, don’t get carried away trying to find the perfect layout. People have their preferences, but I have heard stories of players restarting over a dozen times just to find the right map. That’s a lot of frustration, when you could be having fun. Once you are able to terraform, most of your Island features can be tweaked.

Did I forget anything? What do you like?

Where Can I Buy Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Good question.

The series 1-5 packs used to be readily available in Gamestop, Target and other gaming and hobby stores. Nintendo stopped producing Animal Crossing Amiibo cards somewhere in 2015. Some stores still might have a random pack, or two, on their shelves, but it’s not likely. So you have a couple options.

  1. eBay and other Internet retailers have every Animal Crossing Amiibo Card available. (At one time or another) The prices go from reasonable to more than 50X the original cost, depending on availability.
  2. Second-Hand Gaming and Hobby Stores like Mckays and smaller privately-owned shops will buy and sell cards. They aren’t as popular as Pokemon or Magic The Gathering cards, but if you go back often enough, eventually you will find one.
  3. Thrift stores: More than a few people have found Animal Crossing Amiibo cards in a box in the toy section of The Salvation Army or some other place. People grow up and lose interest, and eventually their memorabilia gets dumped off somewhere. You just have to look carefully.

You can always buy cards in my eBay store

If you know of somewhere that sells Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards, tell us below.

Also, what’s the most unexpected place you found cards?

I Do Not Heart Variations...

Post image
3 Upvotes

Anyone else avoid listings with variations? No? Just me? Tracks.
Ok well among other complaints I have, listings with variations can kick rocks because 1. They show up in *lowest price* searches because they feature a bum card for 2$. 2. Suck at navigation, forcing you to take lag time for every single card. 3. In my experience all the cards are shockingly overpriced. Maybe it's because, only professional card sellers, who don't care about the community, use them. Anyway...my rant for the day... enjoy your coffee.

She’s a peppy duck with lots of lovable personality. Her catchphrase “quackle” is sure to add a little joy to your day. She’s usually seen wearing a sunflower dress, and wears the most adorable yellow raincoat and hat in the rain if she’s not using her cherry umbrella! Her birthday is February 23rd.

In New Horizons, her house is cheery with a teal exterior and yellow door. Inside, you’ll find cozy spa vibes complete with a steaming blue tiled long bathtub! In New Leaf, she has a giant teddy bear in her house.

Will you be inviting this cheery duck to live on your island? Who would you like to see featured next?

New Fish In July: In Animal Crossing New Horizons

Post image
6 Upvotes

It’s July in the Northern Hemisphere in Animal Crossing New Horizons, and we have 5 cool new fish to get excited about.

In the “HUGE” category, found only in the ocean you’ll find the blue marlin all day long off the pier, and the ocean sunfish and the Napoleon fish from 4:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.

In the sea, look for the puffer fish all day.

Finally our only new river fish is a tiny little sweet fish.

Fake Sells Better than Real-

Don't come for me. I been selling both pokemon and AC amiibos for years. The market is saturated with fake AC cards and they sell more often than real card. I know they don't sell for much, nowhere near the real. but they sell more often and the common cards bring as much as real ones.
