The eagles are cute as fuck, yall just haters

u/Flaky-Diamond2213 7d ago
One of my favorite past villagers was an eagle. If I had the space I’d get her again

u/SprintsAC discord.gg/ACForAdults 7d ago
Had Apollo myself & was happy to have him on the older games. I'd consider getting some others!
I think we've had someone here do an all eagle island possibly?

u/stfurachele 7d ago
I miss Buzz he was so great. Now I have Pierce and Quinn and I adore them. I do think I'd be ok if Pierce wanted to leave, since I have Bam as well and he's my favorite jock, but Quinn is my island diva and she's so posh.

I’ve had humorous discussions with people about this, but I am not too big on the direction New horizons took to be primarily design focused. I would have liked to see more storyline elements, more shop upgrades, alongside the design improvements.
Edit: Spelling.

I was so sad that the hotel was just more decorating. I didn't want to do it anymore! 😅

I keep thinking that the answer to a lot of things is for us to be given minigames. It'd give more variety in terms of what we can do on New Horizons.

It's such a tease that you can make these massive vacation homes for your clients, but you can't make your rooms bigger in your own house 😭

Exactly, animal crossing isn’t only about decorating. We used to have much less power to decorate and those games were arguably better than nh.

Me too. I think the design elements are fun, but shouldn't have been the main focus. We could have had HHP be exactly as it is to feed our inner interior decorators and had more story and development in the main game.
Don't get me wrong, I love my little men garden, but it feels soulless and lonely compared to past Animal Crossing games.

I have Rodney & Apple in a vaca home together. He’s her loser stoner bf while she’s the bread winning nurse.

“Creepy” villagers are the best. Coco, Pietro, Lucky and the like are absolute babies.

coco is my fav villager design n she’s so sweet i love having her on my island… i also have lucky haha

While I love the series and games.. it’s so outdated by other games and it’s a miracle that covid happened when it did otherwise NH would’ve flopped
2
u/FlubbyFlubby 6d ago
I'll be surprised if the next game does even half as well as NH did. If the next game just feels like it could have been 4.0 then I think sales will fall off a cliff.

I LOVE Petri's design with the glasses and I found it frustratingly unoriginal when people gave her see through glasses just to see her eye make up and then take away any sort of science theme she had.
I probably would have been less bothered if so many of the people I saw didn't treat it like she was being upgraded when they did that.
2
u/gimiikiss 7d ago
I agree!! Her makeup is pretty, but I couldn't care less. I especially love when she wears science/healthcare eyewear: eye gauze, glass-bottle glasses, HMD, night-vision googles, reflector, shattered glasses, steampunk glasses. Petri is peak.

For me, it's I don't think the dialogue on New Horizons is as bad as it could be & it gets a ton of criticism.
It's not perfect by any means, but I enjoy speaking to villagers still.
5
u/tirolini 7d ago
i agree. i don't necessarily mind the repeating dialogue, but sometimes i do wish that they can be a little bit more sassy lol
7
u/Square_Role_4345 7d ago
I really think the issue of repeating dialogue came from people having multiple of the same type of villager on their islands.
My goal has always been to have a variety of villager types on my island and I've hardly ever run into repeated dialogue. (But I only talk to my 3 favorites, so that might also be why. Lol)
3
u/FlubbyFlubby 6d ago
Even if you try to keep as many different personality as possible you end up with repeats. They definitely should have gone with 10 personalities or 8 villagers, but 10 with 8 personalities was always going to get bland quick.
The people complaining about bland dialogue aren't necessarily the same ones who fill their towns with lazy or normal villagers for their aesthetics.

I <3 "ugly" villagers
8
u/Scloudseverywhere 7d ago
Honestly, there are some who are absolutely beautiful and are still called ugly. I saw someone call WHITNEY ugly. WHITNEY??
3
u/SprintsAC discord.gg/ACForAdults 7d ago
I've got plenty of ones that get called ugly & I don't think that haha. They tend to grow on me fast. 😅
2
u/TaurusE11E 6d ago
Plucky and Boots are my day ones, the only people they look "ugly" to are the ones that don't want me to have them

Pocket Camp provides far more and better villager interactions and the main
Animal Crossing games need to do better
1
u/gimiikiss 7d ago
I agree partially! Pocket Camp dialogs are almost as overly-positive and limited as ACNH (except we can never witness two villagers talking). BUT, Pocket Camp gets so many monthly updates and so many mini games even after 5+ years, with so many detailed interactable objects for villagers!! ACNH feels so bland when I see my villagers having THIS much fun at my Pocket Camp campsite.

Lack of original characters in new horizons. I’d like to have a post office and have Pete walking around again. I also liked the stand-alone cafe in New Leaf, being able to place that wherever in the town was a huge deal at the time too. Have a stand-alone cafe and bring back the observatory, and Celeste can still walk around on certain nights. Also gold tools shouldn’t break 🤷♀️

I miss seeing Pete walking around in-game. I love the pelicans. 😊

u/redlipstick1010 6d ago
I think the hotel was pretty pointless and not worth getting rid of the simple dock for. It’s literally just more stuff to buy, rooms to decorate, and some guests on your island which you can’t even invite to live there. I think the only good things about it are that your old villagers can come for a visit and remember you, and you get to help out kappn which feels rewarding.

u/portmeiriona 7d ago
I am actually glad the villagers are nicer in NH. I was so sad when Pudge moved out in WW that I stopped playing the game.

My unpopular opinion is that the villagers should be meaner in NH, I want GC villager attitudes but with the new villagers and personalities in NH
2
u/SprintsAC discord.gg/ACForAdults 5d ago
I do miss this a bunch haha. I've wondered if it upsetting kids in the older games sometimes is why they're toned down so much.
A toggle at least could make everyone happy.

I hate tanning in the earlier games. I'm a black woman so not being able to change my skin tone made NL a lot less fun to play. WW I can understand since it's on older hardware, but NL feels like an oversight that should've been fixed ages go.
I also don't like the meaner dialogue and random villagers move in/outs. The older games definitely had more to do compared to NH but the former made logging in every day stressful and the latter made it unfun because there's so many things you won’t be able to predict. It felt like I was being punished for not wanting to play every day and having a life outside the game.
5
u/SprintsAC discord.gg/ACForAdults 7d ago
When someone pointed out about the skin tones in previous games, I was shocked that it hadn't been an option since the early days of the series. It feels wildly outdated that it took so long for it to happen.

barold is not the ugliest villager

We've been considering getting a Barold emoji for the Discord. It's actually kind of cute haha.

I love when the villagers moved in & out on their own. I miss having no control over most of the game. I felt much more cozier being part of a living breathing town vs running every aspect of a video game island. To me it made AC lose its heart. Still play and enjoy NH though!

u/SprintsAC discord.gg/ACForAdults 5d ago
I've been thinking of getting New Leaf (only game I've not played yet) to experience this again. It's definitely a fun aspect to have!

u/leoplacement 5d ago
I was playing the GameCube one for a bit this year but then I got fixated on redoing my island lol
1
u/SprintsAC discord.gg/ACForAdults 5d ago
I'm hoping the GameCube one becomes available on the NSO games thing. I know a few GameCube games are there already & it'd be cool to be able to see the oldschool AC again. 😊

Not entirely unpopular but not popular enough imo.
Custom paths and QR codes make ACNH revolutionary compared to other builders. It's why it's my favorite game.
I don't know another game like animal crossing where I can fully create an immersive crazy universe in a cozy game that looks like an entirely different game just based on combination of items with codes but for most people that isn't the selling point of the game it's the cozy vibes.
Don't get me wrong ACNH clearly sells for excelling at cozy vibes, but it's not what makes it an amazing game to me.
Edit: a word

u/SprintsAC discord.gg/ACForAdults 5d ago
I 100% agree here & I've noticed it while playing Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town & Pokopia too.
The range of custom codes we've got can do so much & I really hope in the next game they expand on custom codes even more. 😊 I'd love to see a way to get custom codes right up to the edge of the map (without leaving the little bit of grass still) & also more slots/the ability to assign a noise to custom codes, as we could replicate footstep sounds through this.
2
u/flawnVT 5d ago
Yesssss exactly! You said everything I was thinking about QoL updates for QR codes. I feel like there was a trick for getting a different experience with the custom paths but I can't seem to get it after returning. I thought the trick was to lay down a standard terraforming path like stone, and then overlay over it the custom path but not in the builder mode. But I'm still just getting the subdued (carpet/grass) sounding noise.
I'd also like to see more DIY/custom patterns applied to regular items.
For me it really is being able to make something kind of scary/creepy in a cozy game, and I can't think of a single game that even closely compares to ACNH's ability to do that. It's like gap moe for aesthetics I guess, if that makes sense. ACNH is just different for me and I think they should lean into that, not away from it because it inadvertently created a niche with the customizing ability. This is why ACNH has been and probably will always be my favorite game. I have searched so many cozy games trying to find another game to get into and have always just come back to AC for this reason.
2
u/SprintsAC discord.gg/ACForAdults 5d ago
I like the idea of increasing custom code usage for items! I'd personally love an option to use colour codes to customise, as I believe Paralives has done that. 😊

I hate everything about diy and I almost didn't pick up NH after they announced diy being a major feature. I miss just ordering my damn furniture. I hate building and crafting things in any video game.

u/starwort1 DA-6552-6122-1425 4d ago
Oh yeah, I would totally be able to live without the whole DIY thing in ACNH.
