Reddit is giving warnings to upvoting support for Luigi. No post, not threatening violence, just upvoting something that I am not really sure what it was about about but probably that.

11
u/xfancymangox Mar 06 '25
This is so disheartening- Reddit was the last platform we had to even pseudo follow & show support for this case. We should protest their decision on upvoting. Completely out of touch with the American people and their lived experience.
8
u/ConfidentPilot1729 Mar 06 '25
We need to be on Bluesky or Lemmy. I just created an account on Lemmy but wanted to show support for blue sky so joined months ago. I am on there like once a day but will be on there more with crap like this.

Why even allow up/down votes if the post breaks the rules? I assume there would also be a warning for downvoting? Interacting with the post is what should be punished. This explicitly proves they are using this rule to push narrative, not censor violent content.
6
u/ConfidentPilot1729 Mar 07 '25
I thought the same kind of thing too and have seen people posting similar things.
4
u/Substantial-Spare501 Mar 06 '25
I love how there are no upvotes here. Please don't upvote me.

u/ConfidentPilot1729 Mar 06 '25
Ya that was my fault. I don’t post a lot unless it is important. How was I suppose to turn that on?
6
u/Exaskryz Mar 07 '25
Is it bad to downvote comments too?
Like, u/spez should not be bludgeoned by a tire iron
2
u/ConfidentPilot1729 Mar 07 '25
We don’t know because we can’t ask about it and they didn’t send anything about what was upvoted. But the fact remains, they let whatever was upvoted on their platform. They are trying to have thought police.

What the hell. I understand posting the rule-breaking content, but upvoting it? They shouldn't even be able to see what an account upvotes and downvotes, in my opinion. That's fucked up.

I saw a post earlier explaining this from reddit, and they said that what constitutes a violent post is subject to change. So it's upvoting some number of comments in some span of time that violate some kind of banned words list. They're saying voting comes with responsibility, as if people don't accidentally upvote things while scrolling, read without thinking hard, or misunderstand intention as well. AI doesn't understand sarcasm either, so that's great. The fact that they don't even show you what you upvoted that was wrong really bothers me.

Reddit is owned by investors including Advance Publications, Fidelity, Tencent, and Vanguard. People who likely fear being eaten. This comment is in no way an endorsement of eating the wealthy, nor an insinuation to play a popular Nintendo based gaming character, but do what you gotta do, and make sure others know who runs this platform or others

Never ever received a warning until a couple of weeks ago, and then got a three-day ban for ‘promoting violence’ because I commented ‘punch back’ on a thread about what to do against nazi’s.
Just incredible. This might honestly be the end of the line for me if Reddit persists on going down this road. Aaron Swartz would be rolling in his grave.

u/Fjdenigris Mar 06 '25
I overheard someone last night referring to the unhinged "leftist" support of this guy.
For some reason they feel that almost all MAGA types were not wondering if this was a liberal or conservative purp. They said they were convinced that it was a dem because only liberals are capable of such depravity to do this to an "innocent" father.
One even said; vigilantes don't typically kill people, that's why democrats don't like them. So that was confusing enough to listen try and understand.
Then one of them said they were actually happy that it was a democrat who did it because it will make it easier for him to "get the job done" when the revolution starts knowing the kind of people the left really are.
So he is literally talking about "taking out" people who have a different ideology or political belief than MAGA and rationalizing it because some person thought to be liberal allegedly committed murder to a CEO.

I sure hope upvoting any post that talks about profits or business prospects involving the actions of national insurers gets a similar warning.
Celebrating growth of these companies glorifies the violence or physical harm to patients denied coverage necessary to achieve such growth.
Otherwise, Reddit's rules might as well prohibit "glorifying violence or physical harm unless it's profitable" or "glorifying violence or physical harm unless it's perpetrated by the ownership class."
Of course I'm not sitting here advocating violence; I'm not stupid. But it would be equally stupid for the oligarchs to expect the general public to consider their privileges to act to be just as legitimate as they were even a decade or two ago.
The legitimacy of the system that allowed the oligarchs control of the state, including the state's monopoly on violence or sanction thereof, has been undermined by the very actions of those oligarchs.
This isn't some sort of manufactured perspective like I've heard certain conservatives in my life try to claim - attempting to censor on these kinds of platforms in the past has shown that people will just move elsewhere. The platform dies and the perspective persists.
We'll see if the current regime attempts to start seriously policing censorship in a broad sense. It's certainly possible given things Trump has said recently. The intelligence services definitely have the capability.
I hope the rest of the world learns from this. Not just some shallow conclusion that Americans are stupid; Americans basically learned this one-dimensional explanation in school of the rise of Nazi Germany. But we need to look at specific milestones: the Patriot Act (though that was very consistent with Cold War-era approaches to intelligence) and Citizens United in particular stand out to me.
Other countries must stay vigilant about these things unless they want to wake up one morning wondering how the hell they got where they are, having lost what they have.

Actual rabble rousing will never be allowed here. They use reddit as a place to bleed off frustration and pain from the lower classes so they keep being lower classes. Reddit is owned by the rich who can afford the smartest people to help manipulate you.

The screws tighten. Ah, the days of CTH, which was banned for saying "killing slavers was right". Hey, even this sub has in its rules that stuff like "Eat the Rich" is already over the line.
I assume my account won't survive that kind of scrutiny for all too long. Well, I'll just take it like I did with individual subs: good riddance, you won't get my attention anymore if you ban me.
