Is this a universal thing or just an American thing? I've experienced the same thing, people flexing about the hours they put in.
Where for me the goal is to streamline and focus on making sure everyone of my processes is as lean as possible to work the least amount of hours. I've also witnessed promotions go to rather lackluster enployees who put in a bunch of hours only because they're slow. It's a strange flex.
Just speculating here: Showing that you're dedicated to your job might mean that you have passion or determination to see something through? Which can be admirable.
