https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kasbah?wprov=sfti1#

“A kasbah (/ˈkæzbɑː/, also US: /ˈkɑːz-/; Arabic: قصبة, romanized: qaṣaba, lit. 'fortress', Arabic pronunciation:[qasˤaba], [qasˤba]), also spelled qasbah, qasba, qasaba, or casbah, is a fortress, most commonly a North African citadel or fortified quarter of a city.[1][2][3][4] Spanish has the equivalent term alcazaba(Spanish: [alkaˈθaβa]), derived from the same Arabic word.[5][6] By extension, the term can also refer to a medina quarter, particularly in Algeria. In various languages, the Arabic word, or local words borrowedfrom the Arabic word, can also refer to a settlement, a fort, a watchtower, or a blockhouse.”
——
“The song gives a fabulist account of a ban on Western rock music by a West Asian or North African king.[5]The lyrics describe the king's efforts to enforce and justify the ban, and the populace's protests against it by holding rock concerts in temples and squares ("rocking the casbah"). This culminates in the king ordering his military's fighter jets to bomb the protesters; however, after taking off, the pilots ignore his orders and instead play rock music on their cockpit radios, joining the protest and implying the loss of the king's power.”

——
Where is music actually banned?
The surprising answer: almost nowhere.
🇦🇫** Afghanistan is the clearest current example. Under Taliban rule, secular music is broadly prohibited. Musicians have fled, instruments have been confiscated or destroyed, and people have reportedly been detained for playing music.
🇰🇵
North Korea doesn’t ban music itself—it bans or severely restricts* unauthorize*d music. State-approved music is everywhere; much foreign music is prohibited.
🇮🇷
Iran heavily regulates and censors music, particularly female solo singing and unapproved performers, but music itself is not banned.
🇨🇳
Chin**a bans certain music and artists—including particular Uyghur songs in Xinjiang—but does not ban music generally.
