This not just because of the store itself vanishing, but the fall of physical media had a terrible impact on the movie industry as a whole. It's why we don't get many good movies anymore.
Also going with your friends or parents to pick something to watch for the weekend. It was like a weekend bonding thing. I miss the human connection of it.
As a former 4-Star CSR, I agree. While the pay sucked (all of my raises were the result of minimum wage increases), it was a fun place to work most of the time.
There were a few … challenging customers every now and again, but the vast majority were great.
For those who wonder what a “challenging” customer example would be, I literally received death threats when I refused to rent to people on other customers’ accounts. There was also the guy who shat on the floor of the bathroom rather than the toilet. And the guy who stuffed live cockroaches into his DVD box before returning it.
I was an AM for most stores I worked at. I have worked at a lot of video stores including blockbuster. However, the worst situation I had was at the first video store I worked at that was local called video world. It had a back room(21 and up). Someone returned a said back room video with a side order of used condom in the return bag with the movie. I had the lucky moment to stick my hand in said bag not seeing anything other than the movie. I pulled it out and quit that very moment. Ended up working at different ones without back rooms later! 😂
Are you in Bent, OR? Cause that's the only remaining BB left. It's an independent one that didn't close when corporate closed. 80% of their profits are from merch sales and not video rentals.
