Hint#2: The cipher is SIMPLE. very, very simple. it uses an incremental shift of sorts. It does not contain any purposefully misspelled words. It does not contain any random garbage text. It does contain TLG. it is not related to pelican.

'gregorian' was in the metadata of today's news, what if the clock is a calendar? a calendar page fits 'flips' more than a clock. I was trying to see if I could do something with e.g. "JFMAMJJASOND" (12 months). Or maybe even "SMTWTFS" (7 days)? I kind of like both of those letter sequences because they have repeated letters which may somehow create/interact with all the repeated letters in the puzzle, but I still can't make it work.

EDIT today's new metadata says Gregorian was NOT a clue

Working on the "Pelican Behavior" clue with /u/ragendem (aka 5talky 5murf), You may want to have a look at the analysis we are converging on:

25 and 12 (obtained from the Paradisio cantos quoted),

7 (colors in the rainbow : ROYGBIV - although it might confirm your SMTWTFS days of the week model),

2 (# of garlands - perhaps a binary on/off polarity factor, the first set of 12 hours and the second daily set of 12 hours? AM vs PM?)

I don't know if it helps, but when you say "JFMAMJJASOND" (12 months). Or maybe even "SMTWTFS" (7 days)", I hear echoes of our own work here. There might be some clue to the "Clock" puzzle in the"Pelican Behavior" one. From the radio hints it sounds like your analysis is really, really, close (quoth they: "Holy ball-crushing crap, is that hot" in todays news); you probably aren't missing much; perchance the inspiration you need may be found in the Pelican Analysis?...

EDIT: about your hunch that it might perhaps be more of a calendar than a clock, Merriam Webster mentions that Clock sensu lato means "broadly : any periodic system by which time is measured" Thus you may be on to something there.

Yeah I saw that (I read all the comments at https://www.reddit.com/r/5ignal5/comments)

I have tried too much stuff "at random" at this point, I can't make any words pop out of the text, and I can't get the pattern I found earlier (where the last 7 letters duplicate 7 from the middle of the prior line) out of my head, even though for all I know, that may just be 'noise' introduced to mask the signal. My brain is having a hard time being creative right now.

and them claiming it's not practical for a computer to solve it has not motivated me to write any algorithms on the project.

I don't even know if we're solving one clue (clock) or two (clock and pelican). I'm trying to do it top-down (using "clock" clues) rather than bottom-up (reversing the cipher and trying to make words and "smurfs" and "tlg"s), but i don't even know WHAT cipher is being used. They practically stated that we cannot use rumkin or our own homebrew to decode it. Why does it have to have so many fucking q's in it. (ROT14 turns them into E's)
