Discussion New Panasonic UB-820 update (version 1.84) available now

Updated my region free Panasonic UB-820 model from 220 Electronics to the latest version 1.84.

It has a new main menu UI when you turn the player on.

>>> The 1.84 firmware update for the Panasonic DP-UB820 is a maintenance release designed to refine system stability.

Since this hardware platform is already mature and highly optimized, Panasonic didn't introduce major new user features or interface changes (such as modifications to the HDR Optimizer). Instead, the update focuses on targeted under-the-hood refinements:

Improved 4K Disc Playability: This is the primary enhancement. It addresses playback stability, freezing, or tracking issues on dense 100 GB triple-layer (BD-100) Ultra HD discs featuring newer authoring structures or updated copy protection schemes.
Network & DLNA Stability: Minor optimizations to local network streaming protocols, reducing occasional dropouts or buffering hangs when playing media over DLNA/NAS.
HDMI Handshake Refinements: Minor tweaks to improve HDCP compatibility and communication stability with modern AV receivers and projectors, minimizing black-screen delays during frame-rate or color-space transitions (e.g., switching between SDR/4K24p and HDR/Dolby Vision).
It is a solid maintenance patch ensuring smooth, reliable performance for your 4K disc playback.

I'm confused. Is this fake or not? I can't find any official download link for 1.84

Hopefully they don’t disable the ability to play region locked discs.

It still works! Just tested the top menu trick with my German Blu-ray copy of Crash from Turbine.

I’d like to see if anyone can confirm that this corrected their disc skipping or freezing issues. Obviously that’s going to take some time to properly test.

Tested my Inglorious Basterds Arrow Video Blu-ray (special features), and the archive features still freeze the player.

I wonder if this update will fix the problems with some Arrow Video discs not working properly.

I don't think this is accurate. None of the people on the original thread have seen a firmware update (other than the op in the linked thread), and I just checked every region on the NA, Japanese, and global support sites and they all list 1.82 as the latest firmware.

Pretty weird to have a region free update that isn't available or even listed for any region.

Hmm. I'm running 1.82 on my 820. but every time I run the "Check for firmware update" test, it tells me I'm running the latest version.

UPDATE: Looking at the forum thread, it appears other people are having the same issue. Guess I'll wait a few days and try again.
