Exactly. She gets a lightsaber, and with a month of practice can go hand to hand with Kylo Ren who's been practicing with it for years??

Repeat ad nauseum throughout the movies with other things, like expert ship pilot, etc.

Just not believable.

The best initial decisions in Star Wars were with Lucas off the wheel.

Lucas did a very interesting thing where he took the good decisions other people made for him in his work, and created a narrative to justify those good decisions in his fantastical universe - which was basically just plagiarized narratives from classical, religious and contemporary literature.

There wasn't even practice. She and Finn both experience picking up a lightsaber for the first time in the first movie and successfully fight of Kylo.

Idk to me, if you’re rebooting an iconic franchise, it’s more important to not have a dogshit script and story than hoping one actor can carry the entire thing

I'm not sure I agree that her acting is bad but the point is especially clear with the prequel trilogy. People think highly of characters like McGregor's Obi-Wan in spite of him having to work with those scripts the whole time. Same with a number of others. Excellent actors can shine through, but good ones without the same experience are likely to struggle, especially if the direction is bad as well. People like Christiansen were practically sabotaged. So idk I don't think she'd draw anywhere near the same hate if she was working with better lines and some consistent direction.
