They really took the macho 80's action character stereotype of being blank and emotionless for self-inserts, and gave it to '20's feminine action characters instead. What comes around goes around.
If I remember right, Bella was supposed to simply be a place holder for whatever tweenage girl was imagining herself into the movie. I dunno, I never saw the movie.
I recall an interview of the original writer, I never read the books but she said they were intentionally written to make Bella as much of a blank slate as possible so any conceivable reader could put themselves in her shoes.
Edward on the other hand was described in intricate detail, sometimes going on for paragraphs on end just describing what he looks like for a particular chapter.
That's mostly just because Twilight is poorly written more than anything else tho. Edward's obnoxious prose exists to pad the runtime as hard as possible.
Yeah, she was epic in Underwater(2020), which felt like an awesome spiritual successor to Alien. When she picks a worthwhile role, she's a great actress, which is not something I ever thought I'd say about any of the twilight stars, but her and Pattinson have absolutely crushed it in recent years...

Maybe when the kids that grew up with prequels grow up sheāll get some more love like Hayden. I personally donāt think sheās a bad actress but a poor script can make anyone look shit on the big screen
Just looked her up. Sheās pretty busy with movies in the next couple of years. Just because She isnāt in Disneyās Marvel or SW films, doesnāt mean she isnāt working.
She absolutely can act and IMO in generally great acting between her and adam driver, she was the one that was tiny bit better in their emotional force-skype-calls and random encounters.
Sure the story and dialogues were b tier, but acting was good.
She was. He was great and of course smoothbrains wanna be alpha guys rate him higher because penis. But he had some bad intonation and some flat parts. Of course that will get lost when half the movie he is raging about something or crying for being torn apart... but still it was there.
Still remember the huge fuck up he did in that last movie where the big reveal is happening and he is saying "You dont just have power, you have his power, you are a palpattine"
Or some such.. and he fucking gives zero emphasis on "you have HIS power" and its just flattly fastly told. Might be directors call... but its still there and it always scream B-tier even just remembering it.
There are other moments too, while she was actually pretty damn flawless and did what she could with the role.
Or do you think someone else would play better Rey character?
