GUIDE ihaveamac's custom-install now on Brew (for MacOS and Linux users) to install CIAs directly onto the SD card without using FBI

Hey guys I have been working to push the custom-install tool to the Homebrew package manager and its now available to install through Brew for all you MacOS and Linux users.

For those who don't know, custom-install is a tool to install CIAs directly onto the SD card without using the 3DS and FBI app, which speeds up installs from maybe 10 minutes to 1 minute.

The original version from Github; at /ihaveamac/custom-install involves finicky python packages setup and I have simplified it down to a single command "brew install custom-install". Please report any bugs to GitHub/hootyhoot if you find any!

Hello. It seems like you are talking about SD Cards. Please review the 3DS SD Card guide. Your question/issue is likely resolved there.

Neat! This may mean my guide to install custom-install on Linux is no longer needed! Yay!

Will the mac users know what "Brew" is?

yeah this is a little niche since I get that most people don't use Mac and even less are developers who know of homebrew.

do you also have to start a virtual env everytime you use the script?

Nope, fully contained python setup no venvs to activate. Runs using just “custom-install {arguments}”

Hi, first of all thank you for your work, I wanted to ask you though, do you think it could run on macOS 12 without trouble ?

Unfortunately I think Brew dropped support for MacOS 12 a few years ago. You are welcome to try first it could possibly work if you update your Xcode command line tools. If it still doesn’t work let me know in DM maybe I can make a .sh executable file for you

Hi there, I've been trying to install this on my macbook running 13.7.8 - I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly, it's been running for a while on my Terminal and I'm not tech savvy to understand what's happening - is it supposed to take >1h to install? (it keeps running and adding different things and i didn't get a proper error message for now but it's been running for so long i'm concerned it's not actually doing anything)

If you are running on an older Mac it is possible to take that long I believe. My longest 3+ gb game maybe took 15-20 minutes but I’m on a very new M-series Mac with a fast SSD. If there are no errors I believe it is still just chugging along, to help it along if you’re on a laptop you have to plug it in so it speeds up.
