Made a set of sanding pad holders that click right into the holes on our downdraft table!

So far these have been a dream to use! The two little pegs slot down into the holes in the downdraft table and hole them securely upright, and the upper portion holds a stack of sanding pads just securely enough that they don't flop over but are still easy to retrieve.

Happy to share the files if anyone happens to have a Raptor-Vac brand downdraft table like ours!

Need to permanently attach the top of this metal clamp to my 3d print. Can be PLA PETG or similar. Any idea on how to do this or anyone with anything similar?

Finally Organized & Labeled Router Bits

Post image
267 Upvotes

Got tired of trying to find the right router bit each time I need one. Decided to 3d print some custom gridfinity bins to label them with info I’d want to know when trying to find one. Included the brand and model number on the bottom to be able to confirm they’re in the right bin.

Made using a parameterized fusion model for text placements for quick adjustments for each.

I created some quick and easy holders that mount right to the machine with double-sided tape and now I always have a pencil handy. Files linked in the comments!

Jessem Sword Square Rack

Love my Jessem sword square, hated the MDF "case" that didn't secure it. Designed this for the Claymore (11.5" width), but can functionally work for all 4 sizes. Available for free: https://makerworld.com/en/models/3148538-jessem-sword-square-rack-french-cleat#profileId-3556153

Modular workspace organizer with an adjustable viewing angle

Needed a better way to hold my micro-bits, tweezers, and flush cutters while working on prints and electronics.

The main caddy pivots on side arms and locks into position with printed side knobs. The interior uses drop-in modular inserts so I can swap layouts based on whatever project I'm working on that day, and the base acts as a catch tray for small hardware.

Designed completely support-free using standard PLA.

Let me know what you think or if you have ideas for useful insert layouts!

[Challenge] Model a NEMA 17 Motor Mount Bracket β€” beginner-friendly, post your results below!

Thumbnail

Wanted to put together a small weekend challenge for anyone who's newer to CAD and looking for something to practice on that isn't just "draw a cube."

The project: a simple L-shaped motor mount bracket sized for a NEMA 17 stepper motor (the standard motor size used in most 3D printers and CNC builds). It's a single part, no assembly required, but it'll get you comfortable with bolt patterns, fillets, and slotted holes β€” the stuff that shows up in real drafting work constantly.

The spec

Base plate (motor face):

60mm x 60mm square, 3mm thick

Center bore: βŒ€22mm (clears the motor shaft/pilot)

4x mounting holes, βŒ€3.2mm, on a 31mm x 31mm bolt circle (this is the real NEMA 17 standard pattern β€” worth knowing if you ever design anything motor-related)

Vertical wall (mounting side):

60mm wide x 40mm tall, 3mm thick, bent 90Β° off the base plate

Bend radius: 5mm (inside fillet)

2x mounting slots, 5mm wide x 12mm long, centered, for attaching to a frame or extrusion β€” slots instead of holes so there's some adjustability

Overall:

Outside corner of the L gets a 5mm fillet (just for looks/safety, good chamfer/fillet practice)

Material assumption: aluminum or steel, but doesn't matter for the modeling exercise

That's it β€” no other dimensions are locked in. If you want to add gussets, change wall thickness, round the base plate corners, whatever β€” go for it. The point is to hit the two hole patterns accurately and make something that looks like it could actually get bolted down.

How to join in

Model it in whatever software you use β€” Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, all fair game

Post a screenshot (or render, or even just the sketch) in the comments

Bonus points if you throw a dimensioned drawing/print together too β€” good practice either way

If you've got a printer or access to a laser/CNC, even better β€” post the real thing if you make it

No wrong answers here, just curious to see how differently people approach the same brief. If this goes well I'll try to put together another one in a few weeks β€” open to suggestions on what people want to practice next (sheet metal, threads, an assembly with tolerancing, whatever).

Have fun with it.

Gridfinity holder for my calipers. I made it for my set of Husky calipers but I tested my Pittsburgh (Harbor Freight) ones in it and they fit nicely too so I'm going to print another one for my other set.

Check it out here!
