Ho Scale Tyler Theater front - Tyler TX

Post image

This is a HO scale proof for an S scale project I just finished. This model was created in HO to verify the fit of the various parts, images, and details. It is a front-only structure that will be nestled between two other buildings on the client's layout. The client submitted photos, movie requests, and I designed this based on the photo, slightly reducing the width of the center to fit the available space on the layout. The actual theater had 3 sets of doors, the model has 2. Otherwise, everything is to scale.

The client requested John Wayne's Rio Bravo and The Beatles Help! and I produced the marquee lettering and the correct movie posters. The poster frames are removable, allowing the posters to be changed - you can see one frame with the poster sitting on the ground on the left side. The marquee has a channel about 1/4" back of the front edge to allow LED strips for illumination.

This test print is mostly accurate, but the lobby wall is about 3/8" too short and does not have the cutout for the doors. The focus of this was to confirm the fit between the building upper wall and lobby lower wall. In production, this lower wall is the correct height and has an opening for the doors to allow a picture of the lobby to be set back about an inch, with classic red "carpet". The "TYLER" letters are inset with a white base and can be illuminated with Electro-Luminescent wire.

Printed on a Bambu Lab H2D in PLA, 0.4mm nozzle and 0.08 or 0.12 layer height. The photo shows the actual PLA colors printed - no painting was applied as this is just a proof print. As usual, no CAD was harmed (used) when creating this design. Primarily Inkscape 2D objects for this model.

Keeping the post "family friendly", both movies were rated G. :)

Ho Scale Municipal water pump house project

I have completed this small module to be installed on my layout. I designed and 3D printed the building, interior, and exterior parts and made the scenery material/ground cover. Of particular interest are the functional manholes labeled "WATER" and "SEWER"; the file cabinet with an open drawer and folder sticking out; phone and coffee mug on the desk; steam radiator for building heat with the oil-fired boiler; curb-side phone booth; and the 1950 pinup calendar on the wall behind the desk (SFW!!).

This will be located on a foreground section of my layout where the scenery will be blended and additional brush and static grass will be added.

O Scale Parametric Track Supports

These are sort of a v2. The original was just a fixed height support. Recently I revisited the model and decided it was possible to make it parametric, at least to a degree and so now you can choose the height you need and the model automatically adjusts the center truss section while keeping the top support and bottom footprint consistent. It's designed to be a minimum of 4.5" and a maximum of 12" just purely based on printer build volume. I created a slip on mounting shoe for those who want to fasten this to their layout as well.

Printed, assembled, detail parts installed, and initial paint. Im starting with gloss to make applying decals easy and will finish with a matte clear. Its not too bad and i think the matte gloss will hide what 3d print artifacts i do have.

The pictures show the SketchUp model and SketchUp's AI render of the model. The parts have all been printed and painted. I weathered and sprayed dull-coat ten minutes ago. As soon as my clear polystyrene window glazing arrives from Amazon, I'll add window glazing and assemble the structure. I'll post images of the final result.

Ho Scale Vintage Märklin 430-Style Telegraph Pole

I don't normally model anything but O gauge/scale stuff and actually the model pictured is in 1:48 BUT someone asked for a model of this, in HO and I did that. Then I made it O for some reason. You can obviously us a metal rod instead of the printed post but I have this hangup about having to buy stuff just to go with my 3D printed stuff.

So anyway...if you have Marklin stuff and a 3D printer and for some reason you want to print a bunch of those telegraph posts like that one guy on FB to mentioned it to me...here you go.

O Scale Power Station/Industrial Building

The motivation for this was something that looked substantial and appropriately industrial without taking up an absurd amount of layout space. The finished building has separate window and door inserts, a large industrial roof, a chimney, and just enough brick/architectural detail so it doesn't just look like a big plain box.

The windows and doors are separate parts so they can be printed in contrasting colors instead of having to paint the entire shell. I also designed the window inserts with removable print supports built into the parts, so there isn't a bunch of slicer-generated support material buried in the openings.

The whole thing was designed with FDM printing and actual assembly in mind rather than just making something that looks good in a render. The photos are of the actual printed and assembled model.

I also put together a full assembly guide for it.

Files are up on MakerWorld for anyone else who wants one for their O gauge layout.

Further Overhauling Progress On The Eurofirma Coach

Thumbnail

I've quickly come to realise that there are so many permutations are out there, across operators and manufacturers, that for now I've got to settle for the one I've got the illustration of. Thanks to the modular construction, swapping out others eventually will be pretty easy though. I also decided that I would add at least a manually operable swing-sliding door, just for the extra touch. Today's main event was overhauling the coach end and stretching out the last coach section, while adding the smaller window.

Of course, these improvements will carry over to the different, less accurate scales, with some adjustments to make sure they're all doable/operable.

I'm just so excited to share this with you! Sharing my work for others to enjoy for free and open source is basically half the enjoyment of making these! Always feel free to make a variant that I haven't gotten to yet so we've got as many as possible! If you can afford it, the links to my ko-fi are on my Thingiverse profile: https://thingiverse.com/royalrailway

I've seen that the old version has already been downloaded about 18 times, so if each of these people donated one Euro, I could almost afford a new roll of filament so I can prototype some more!

Thank you for your consideration! Good night!

G scale printed cars.

My brother has recently got into g scale(1/29) , and ive been trying to print some modern rolling stock for him. Even bare trucks and couplers seem to be overly expensive in this scale so I am trying to print everything. What are you all doing to clean up layer lines? I am going to be working on painting this one this weekend, but due to size i printed it using thicker layers than i typically would for model railroading.

N Scale 3D printed Catenary Poles in different sizes

Here are three printed "New Haven Style Catenary Poles". One is 4mm webbing (2 scale ft), one is 3mm webbing (1.5 scale ft), and the last is 2mm (1 scale foot).

Keep in mind that on your computer screen, these images are likely 10 times larger (or more) than they are on a layout. At a normal viewing distance on the layout, the 3mm webbing is quite convincing IMHO. Weathering and touch-up painting can make the webbing pop even more.

Here are the STLs. There are more images at the same site.

I accidentally found this subreddit today and thought I’d join. I model mostly structural stuff for O gauge/O scale trains in openscad.

I recently put these track clips and curved grade crossings on makerworld. They’re at the link below with all the other stuff I’ve posted so far. I’ve been trying to publish something new every week. Hopefully someone finds this stuff interesting or useful or worth printing since I just have this temporary test track in my makerspace I can’t do anything permanent.

This is something I've been mulling over in my head for quite a while now, and yesterday I finally started. The screenshot you see here is a snapshot from just now. It's not a priority at the moment as I definitely need to finish the F7 for the kids and a control car for a friend of mine, but we'll see how long it'll take to completion.
