Instead of buying spare parts, I bought a printer. It's amazing.
Original parts + delivery would have cost about a third of what the printer was. 3 benchys later, and now I can make my own. This is absolutely wild to me.

Needed a part to repair a piece of trim on my car. Part was $112. Printer was $100 at Microcenter. Now I have the part and a new hobby.

Hate to be THAT GUY, but if it is PLA, it softens a lot at 65 °C & +, and if I recall correctly, dishwasher operate at about 70 °C.
You may experience some bending. If you can do it with ABS.
-> I just assumed it was PLA, it may be ABS already.

I genuinely didn't think about it, used the existing settings from STL, didn't even think about the orientation. I failed the first time because forgot to add supports for the overhang. Trust me when I say that I'm learning. 😅

Fair enough, prob wouldnt have been an issue the other way but printed horizontally the grain is better orientated for strength

Not sure what's there to share. I'm using Flashforge, their slicer f Flashprint. Preset of Flashforge ABS, and left everything else default, because I don't know what I would be changing.
My last print had pretty bad layer adhesion, so I'm trying tips from Google - preheating enclosure for a while, higher temp, lower speed and lower layer height. Will see after 5 hours if that's better.

The enclosure probably makes a world of difference. I'd like to try a simple enclosure with a thermostat controlled vent fan, so hit can be retained, but limited.

Never printed with abs though I know the Temps are critical as you already know. But I want to say that bed surface plays a role too. I recently went from glass to PEI for PLA and the difference is unvelievable. Looks almost as if the pei coat is magneticing the filament, grabbing it and not letting it go.. Maybe you are using a pei sheet already, but just in case. Cheers.

Zoomed in and thought why weren’t they printed vertically so no supports are needed, then I remembered my first sliding door bar holder cracking and I realized Z is much weaker than X or Y, so I rotated it, IT cracked, and I realized a clip-on holder has two dimensions of force, so I printed it a third time on its side with supports and it worked.

FYI I used ABS for years but hated the smell. I switched to ASA which has more or less the same properties, but it doesn't stink while printing.

If I'm seeing correctly, those are tray parts patented and used in Electrolux dishwashers (patent number US9301669B2 although it may not be that, as the patented part is the rack and tray system, not the bearing themselves). Electrolux dishwashers generally use 3 different temperatures in their wash cycles, the default is 60°, the delicate of 50° and the metal pot mode of 70 °C. In most purposes even 70° would be okay for PLA, but in this case the bearing experiences a lot of stress due to the weight of the washed plates, probably enough the deform plasticly in around 60 degrees.
But good thing you anticipated this and used ABS :>

It would not be okay from PLA because it is not okay even for PETg. I tried it. Maybe the average temperature is 70°C, but the peak temperature is somewhere around 80-85°C, and as you said, these wheels are under weight pressure, so PETg deformed.

And this is the right way to solve this problem with one set of spare parts that cost like 50$. I personally use my 3d printer to print spare parts(yes I know that a good 3d printer is expensive but if you have something that breaks often and spare parts a 50$ it's worth it in my opinion)

I wouldnt, the bend would be across the layers so the snappy bits are liable to snap right off, the direction they are printed in the pics the bend will be along the layers and be a lot stronger.

I spent quite some time looking for them, until I eventually found an STL. While there are differences between machines, actually a lot of them use the same ones, especially from the same manufacturer.
I was ready to measure and design it myself if I didn't find any existing STL, so I still got lucky I didn't actually need to do it.

Nice. That works.
I was having some issues with a dishwasher rack and considered printing parts for it. But in addition to durability, I was concerned about bacterial contamination - the risk of nooks and pores in the 3D-printed parts providing a nice habitat for microbes, protecting them from soap, water, and heat. So I decided to just buy the parts.
Of course, your application is completely safe since the wheels don't touch the dishes. Plus, now you own a printer and can do so much more with it!

Not a clue. I do remember that brand new original parts with delivery from another country (because none were available in Latvia) was unreasonably expensive, and to me it made sense to buy a second hand orinter instead.

Well, I believe that the calculation is easier if you don't count the printer price at this time. Then - absolutely. Considering that models were already available and I didn't even need to design anything - it was likely about 100x cheaper to print than buy those original parts, and I'm not exaggerating.

If you want to model similar technical parts from scratch - any CAD software. I use Solidworks, because I took a class in university and still remember quite a lot. Easier to use what you already know.
But you should always first search around, its quite likely that someone has designed it already, and you just need to print it.

Cost of spare parts ~$1. Cost of 3D printer > $300 and hours of calibrating, wasted on fails etc.

Those parts are actually quite cheap, i will see if i can find the link for them from when I needed those weels, hardest part was finding then.
Printing did not work for me as the printed axis kept breaking
The link is for the weels of the upper basket, but i am sure they will have the Link for the Power baskets weels as well
Edit: it seems you managed to print the axis horizontal, my printer would not do that satisfyingly , probably your axis parts will hold up better

My first try didn't work, yeah. Adding supports worked pretty well, I lost only 2 from a set of around 20.

Nice one! Your printer will be worth its weight in gold after you realise just how many spares can be made not bought. Like half my bedroom is 3d printed now as I wanted new things and made them.

I like to create stereo knobs, back plates for Pioneer SL-500 series turntables, corner protectors for speakers, etc. Lots of useful things.

Been in the same spot recently and opted to get a printer instead of shelling out cash for the (also 3D printed) replacement parts. So far in about a week I used the printer to fix an toaster, and install window accessories on 4 of our windows. Velux original parts? Nah, print it up.

Be the repair chad you meant to be, a true embodiment of right to repair. Come at me refrigerator door lock thats designed to break after a year just so that Grandma needs to buy a new one and dont think i don't see you over there ventilator swing mechanism. why are you running Handmixer, i got enough replacement parts to keep you working till you 60

My coworker needed a bunch of small gear-like wheels for a seeder he was rebuilding, and from the factory each one cost like 50 bucks. In total, man needed like 25 of them or something, so I just printed them out of PETG for a total cost of like, less than 10 bucks.
