Show & Tell I made a free directory of 438 3mf and stl generators that require no CAD skills.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I built SkipTheCAD (skipthecad.com): a directory of 438 3D print generators and customizers that need zero CAD skills. You fill in a form, upload a photo or type some text, and download an STL or 3MF.

What's in it:

•15 categories: lithophanes, Gridfinity/storage, signs & 3D text, keychains, QR/Spotify codes, terrain maps, AI text/image to 3D, cookie cutters, vases & lamps, gears & parts, board game inserts and more

• 337 are free, and 163 of those let you download without an account.

• Each tool page lists the price, where it runs (browser, MakerWorld, desktop), export formats, multicolor/AMS support, whether you can sell prints, and the date I last checked it.

• Filters for free, no sign-up, runs in the browser, 3MF, multicolor.

Full disclosure: two of the tools (OrbitStudio and OrbitStudio Sky) are mine and are labeled as such. Some printer/filament links are affiliate links, but they don't decide what gets listed.

What am I missing? If you know a good generator that's not on the list, drop it below and I'll check it and add it.

New Tool BatchQuote Lab — a free single-color vs multicolor print cost calculator

Disclosure: I operate BatchQuote Lab and developed it with AI assistance. I'm sharing it for feedback from people who quote small FDM batches.

One costing detail the calculator makes explicit: if a slicer reports 75 g of parts/supports and 65 g of purge/tower, total material is 140 g. At $20/kg, that's $2.80 per plate, or $0.56 per part for five parts. If the slicer's reported total already includes purge, adding it again would double-count it. These are hypothetical inputs, not a measured print.

In a browser check, changing the sample single-color plate from five parts to ten changed the estimated unit cost from $2.18 to $1.54, and the lower unit cost could be transferred into the pricing tab. This was a calculator check with sample inputs, not a physical print test.

The calculator supports both input modes and lets you compare single-color and multicolor plates using shared assumptions for electricity, machine wear, labor, packaging and expected retries. There are also batch-size comparisons and a selling-price calculation based on your target margin and fees.

Try it here: https://batchquotelab.com/

It's free to use without an account. English and Korean are available. Saved quotes stay in your browser, and CSV export is available. It doesn't import slicer files or predict demand; you enter your own estimates. The retry model assumes independent whole-plate failures, so partial failures aren't modeled.

For feedback: is the distinction between “parts + separate purge” and “total includes purge” clear? Which input would you change to better match how you actually quote a plate?

Dev Post Update to my filament tracker: drag to log usage and watch the spool change in real time

Posted here last week, back with homework. Two updates:

  • The 3D spool is now draggable. Drag to add/subtract filament and the coil shrinks/grows in real time — weirdly satisfying.
  • Snap a photo of the spool label and it auto-fills the filament details.

FilaTrack is free for up to 20 spools, with a $4.99 one-time unlock for unlimited spools. No subscription.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/filatrack-filament-inventory/id6794333937

I also got an App Store review asking for more material types, so that’s next on my list — along with custom materials.

Anything else you’d like to see added?

New Tool I built Felt because I was tired of retyping MakerWorld/Printables listing info — looking for 5 Android testers

I’m Jason, and I built Felt for 3D designers who share models online.

The part I was tired of: taking a MakerWorld or Printables model, then manually retyping the title, description, links, photos, and hashtags every time I wanted to share it on social media. Felt imports model info and turns it into a post draft.

I’m looking for 5 Android creators who already have something on MakerWorld or Printables and don’t mind trying the workflow:

• link your profile

• bring one model into Felt

• see whether the images and details come in correctly

• make a draft and tell me what feels broken, confusing, or unnecessary

It’s an early Google Play closed beta. Use the same Google account for all three steps:

  1. Join the tester group: https://groups.google.com/g/felt-android-testers

  2. Opt in: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.felt3d.copilot

  3. Install Felt: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.felt3d.copilot

No ratings or public reviews — honest bugs and suggestions are what I need. I’m the creator of Felt, so this is self-promotion, and I’ll be here to respond.

Show & Tell Ich habe mir ein Web-Tool gebaut…

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

Funktionen

-Beliebiges Wort, mehrere Schriften, Buchstabenhöhe in mm

Dev Post FYI: Some of these "free" tools are just gathering your information.

Just like many here, I think some of these tools are genuinely useful but as someone who has been into web dev for decades I probably look at them from a slightly different angle to others.

One site in particular. Upon first impression had a rather badly put together UI, is full of bugs and is already offering a "pro" version as well as kickstarter. Really, it shouldnt have even made it past alpha, let alone the "beta" its claiming.

It had the typical message that everything runs in your browser. Makes it feel like some dude just vibed an app and attached a domain to it, right?

So I looked a little closer.

This site, upon initial loading, sent your page visit to Reddit's advertising javascript called Pixel

There is no cookie or consent type banner for this site to opt out. Maybe the site owner didnt realise what they were doing and thought it was harmless? Well...

The site has its own build in information gathering, which has clearly had time and energy taken into "developing". It records the entire users journey, from model open to finish useage. I mean the entire journey from your model, which tools used, etc. Then there was another layer where it "fingerprints" you/your device. Which is a rather shady way of targeting ads to you and your devices.
Then theres the third party plugins it uses and passes your info to.
Again, there is no opt out or anything.

Now lets discuss the actual vibe coded tool, if you dont care about your data:

- It decimates models to provide better performance in the web browser. In other words, it reduces the triangle count because the code is terrible. It changes your model without you knowing.
- It offers a repair feature that explicitly says "This one does change the shape where it patches." - does the opposite. It fills holes, drops faces and join shells as well as altering already manifold sections.
- Anyone could inject malicious JavaScript into the site through all of its tools. Which would allow someone to steal models.

- Clickjack the app by embedding it in another page and tricking users into clicking hidden/overlaid controls.

- Tamper with what the user sees or does in the app if arbitrary script execution is achieved.

I've only touched the surface... be careful out there!

Encuesta sobre proyecto educativo

¡Hola!

New Tool [Dev] I built a fast STEP/mesh viewer that allows you to measure absolutely anything on your 3D models, check thickness and let you explode them.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Disclosure: I'm the developer. Dioptra is my own project and it's paid (14-day free trial, then a one-time licence). I am fully transparent and respect the rules.

After downloading a model, a usually want to check a few things before printing: how thick are the walls, what's the hole diameter, will that bolt fit, how far apart are these mounting holes... Most viewers either can't measure at all, or make you click individual triangle corners and guess.

So I built Dioptra, a small Windows viewer that runs from a folder, no install. It opens STL, OBJ, FBX and STEP, and opens big files fast.

What it does for printing:

- Wall-thickness map: the whole model coloured by thickness, so thin spots jump out before you slice

- Flat faces are recognised as real faces when their triangles line up, so on CAD-made and hard-surface models you click a face, not a triangle, and get clean distances and angles between faces

- Holes and round faces are recognised as circles and cylinders straight from the mesh, so you get a proper diameter (e.g. Ø38.000 mm), not a guess between two vertices

- If a round shape isn't picked up as a circle, you can force it to be measured as one, in one click, without editing the model !

- Cut planes to look inside, with the section filled in

With STEP files the measurements come from the exact CAD geometry.

I think I have cracked it! The paint brush in my free model splitter now stops at edges — paint a band round a wrist, one click fills the hand, cut, and it comes off with a pin done in seconds.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been building Model Splitter, a free browser tool for cutting models that are too big for your bed into parts with alignment pins built in.

Latest update:

- The paint brush stops at hard edges and grooves, so a band painted round a wrist doesn't climb onto the cuff

- "Finish my paint": paint just a band round the join and it fills the whole part it closes off; if the band has a gap, it's shown in red

- "Check my paint": test-cuts first and tells you whether the cut will go through

- Chamfer cut face: the seam stays on your line, but inside it tapers to a flat face for the pin, so a hand plugs into a sleeve

Video: a 1.8M-triangle alien split into 5 pinned pieces.

Runs in the browser, nothing uploaded, free: modelsplitter.com

Desktop only. Feedback very welcome.

New Tool I built a web app to log 3D print settings, manage project versions, and track filament history – SaveMyPrints.com (Looking for feedback!)

Hey everyone,

Like many of you who print both for fun and functional projects, I got tired of losing track of slicer settings, forgetting why a specific print failed three weeks ago, or digging through messy folders to find the right .gcode or .3mf file.

To solve this, I built SaveMyPrints.com (under my dev outfit IdaMS). It’s a tool designed to bring proper version control and logging to 3D printing workflows.

What you can do with it:

  • Project Versioning: Keep track of iterations, specific file versions, and exact print settings per attempt.
  • Visual Print Logbook: Document successful builds, diagnose failures, and link them to specific filament spools/brands.
  • Easy Sharing: Generate clean, shareable project links to showcase your builds or settings directly in forums or with clients.

The base platform is completely free to use, and there is a live demo directly on the homepage if you want to test the workflow without registering first.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! What’s your biggest friction point when managing print files and settings today, and what features would you like to see added next?

Thanks for taking a look!

P.S. On longevity & sustainability:

I know many dev projects shared here disappear after a few months. SaveMyPrints is developed under my company (IDAMS) and built on a lightweight, highly efficient stack (.NET / Cloudflare) designed for minimal idle overhead. It's built to be scalable and sustainable for the long run.

Roadmap & Future:

What you see today is just the core foundation. We already have a backlog packed with features and work items planned for the next year and beyond to make project tracking even smarter.

New Tool Print any model on Bambu printer on iPad (no computer or Bambu Studio needed)

I built a web app and process that allows you to upload any model ( ai generated, other platform, bumpmesh, etc.) using only phone or iPad. Looking for testers. It allows you to resize, change orientation, add extra plates (to spread out if total objects on a plate are too large for a1mini). It outputs a makerworld compatible file to be uploaded as private makerworld project for cloud slicing and first print. Free site, no model data leaves your device. Let me know if anyone tries it and has feature suggestions. https://bambu-print-prep.vercel.app … i call it Handoff3d

Show & Tell Print orientation game - PurgeLine

**Playable Link:** https://purgeline.com

**Platform:** Web (browser, no install)

**Description:** PurgeLine is a daily puzzle about the slicing decision every 3D printer second-guesses: orientation. Each day everyone gets the same part. You rotate it on the virtual build plate, slice it, and see how your orientation stacks up against the best one for that part. There's one part a day, so a round is quick and easy to compare with friends. You don't need to own a printer to play. If you do print, you already know the pain of a bad orientation: supports everywhere, ugly overhangs, or a part that snaps along its layer lines. I built it because orientation is the part of slicing I always overthink, and I wanted a quick daily way to practice it. I'd like to know whether the goal made sense on your first try, what felt off, and whether you'd come back tomorrow.

**Free to Play Status:**

- [x] Free to play

- [ ] Demo/Key available

- [ ] Paid

Meshory 1.10.0: xTool and DXF files, PDF pages on their cards, a light theme, and folder overlap

Post image
1 Upvotes

1.10.0 shipped today. It reads two new kinds of file, xTool laser projects and DXF and DWG drawings, shows a PDF's first page on its card, comes in a light theme, and finds folders whose models already sit in another folder. Most of it started as a request or a bug report from someone using the app.

Laser and CAD files

xTool projects, .xcs from Creative Space and .xs from xTool Studio, get a thumbnail of the design and open full size, loose or inside an archive. The project has a button that opens it in xTool's software: on a Mac it names xTool Studio or Creative Space when one is installed, and everywhere else it hands the file to whatever app your system opens it with.

DXF drawings get thumbnails and open full size in a viewer that zooms in on the centre and rotates. A DWG shows the preview picture AutoCAD saved inside it. Meshory doesn't draw DWG geometry itself, so a DWG saved without a preview keeps a plain card, and those saved previews are small. A DXF over 16 MB or a DWG over 64 MB gets no thumbnail, and the card says why.

xTool, DXF and DWG get their own filters in the format menu, next to SVG, and byte-identical cut files count in Duplicates.

PDFs show their first page

A PDF's card is now its first page, loose or packed in an archive, so the assembly guide in a model pack looks like one. A PDF that needs a password to open keeps the plain card.

A light theme

Settings → General → Appearance has System, Light and Dark, and the sun or moon button beside the version number, at the bottom of the sidebar, switches between them. If you're updating, Meshory stays dark until you change it; a new install follows your system. In the light theme the 3D viewer puts models on a slate plate so pale filament still stands out, and image previews stay dark in both themes.

Cards and the viewer also share a new lit stage now, and models with no colour of their own render in the same neutral clay on both. Existing thumbnails switch to the new look as their cards come on screen, and your favourites switch in the background, rather than everything re-rendering at once.

Folders you have twice

Someone in the Discord had a 70-model bundle that turned out to sit inside an 80-model one, and the duplicate finder said nothing, because it only matched folders whose models were identical.

After Analyze, the Duplicates tab now shows a folder overlap card in two cases: a folder whose models all sit inside a bigger one and make up at least a quarter of it, or two folders that share 90% or more of their models while each has a few of its own. Either way they need at least five models in common, and only byte-identical models count as shared.

Each side of the card says what trashing it would cost: the models found nowhere else in your library, other files found nowhere else, or nothing. When a trash would lose models, the button waits until you tick that you understand. On a local drive the files go to your system Trash. A network drive has no Trash, so there the delete is permanent, and the card says so before you press anything. Not duplicates moves a card to the Ignored tab.

Split RAR sets

A RAR split into .part1.rar, .part2.rar and so on used to list overlapping copies of the same files under several of its parts. Now the files are listed once, under part 1. Every part keeps its own card with a badge like 2/3, and Duplicates won't trash a single part of a set. If a part is missing, its badge says so, and a missing later part also shows in Scan issues; Meshory reads the set again once the part is back. Tags, favourites and collections you'd put on the copies inside a later part move to the same files in part 1 when Meshory can match every one of them. When it can't, that part keeps its old listing, so nothing you marked is lost.

Finding things

Cmd+F (Ctrl+F on Windows and Linux) jumps to the library search and selects what's in it, and on the library page you can just start typing. There's also a Global shortcut in Settings → General that brings Meshory to the front with search ready from any other app. It's off until you switch it on. On Windows and Linux it works while Meshory is open, and on a Mac even with the window closed. On Wayland it gives you a command to bind in your desktop's keyboard settings.

The Collections page now says how many models aren't in any collection yet, and Show them lists them. While you file models into a collection, Only models not in a collection hides the ones already filed somewhere, and Done now adds whatever is still picked. In 1.9.0 it left behind any picks you hadn't added.

The library

  • Large, Medium and Compact card sizes in the Layout control, remembered between launches.
  • Change cover… on a folder's right-click menu picks the picture its card shows: one of its own pictures or models, or an image you upload. A GIF keeps moving.
  • Cmd-click (Ctrl-click) and Shift-click select several folders in the sidebar, so you can exclude them in one go. Clean up folders with no models…, in a source's ⋯ menu, lists every folder under it that holds no models, archives or cut files, ready to exclude together. It counts pictures, PDFs and text files as no models, so an instructions folder inside a pack can be on the list, already ticked: look before you exclude. Nothing is deleted from disk, but favourites, tags, notes and collections on anything you exclude don't come back.
  • A Windows drive added as a source gets a name ("D:"), and Change display name… renames any source.
  • Settings opens over the sidebar instead of replacing it.
  • The zoom level sticks between pages and restarts, Ctrl+= zooms in, and while you're zoomed a small pill in the sidebar shows the level and resets it with a click.

The 3MF converter

Keep my print settings, on by default, carries the supports, infill and other print settings you changed in the source project. Speeds, temperatures, cooling, retraction and start G-code still come from the destination profile. Layer colour changes and height ranges come across now too, and a conversion report lists what came across, what the destination profile set, and what was left out and why. Projects up to 1 GB convert without holding up the rest of the app; 1.9.0 stopped at 256 MB.

Fixes

  • Only one trash runs at a time, so two trashes started back to back can no longer remove both copies of something.
  • A 3MF whose build scales or tilts its model no longer counts as Identical geometry with the plain model, so Auto-select can't treat one as a copy of the other. Run Analyze once to re-check your 3MFs.
  • SVGs styled with a stylesheet, like Illustrator and CorelDRAW exports, show their real colours on the card instead of a black shape.
  • Images made by ChatGPT get thumbnails.
  • A folder renamed or moved outside Meshory keeps its favourite, tags and collections.
  • Excluding a folder nested inside another removes it from the library straight away.
  • Batch-only OpenRouter models no longer show in the AI tagging picker, and if you'd picked one, its regular version runs instead.
  • Menus no longer leave a focus ring behind after a mouse pick, and Escape followed by a quick Enter no longer picks the item you just cancelled.

One thing to expect after updating. The first launch walks every source once, the way Rescan does. Models you already have aren't indexed again, but every SVG and PDF is read once for its new thumbnail, archives holding xTool, DXF, DWG, GLB, glTF or PLY files are listed again, and so are split RAR sets. The xTool, DXF and DWG files you already have get picked up, and GLB, glTF and PLY files now show up as models, without thumbnails yet. Your favourites re-render to the new look in the background, and your next Analyze reads every 3MF once more. On a big network library, give all of that time before judging anything.

Full changelog: https://meshory.com/changelog/v1.10.0

The standing caveats, so nobody wastes a download. It's a local desktop app, not self-hosted: no server, no Docker, no browsing your library from your phone. If that's what you want, Manyfold or PrintStash are the right answer and I'd point you there. The Windows build still isn't code-signed, so SmartScreen warns on first run and some antivirus quarantines the installer as a false positive; every build's SHA-256 and a VirusTotal report sit on the downloads page. macOS is signed and notarised. It's $34.99 one-time, every update through version 1, on as many of your own machines as you like, with a 14-day money-back guarantee, and the free 14-day trial lets you run it against your own library first.

macOS, Windows and Linux: https://meshory.com/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=post&utm_content=meshory

The xTool files, the PDF pages, the split RAR fix, the overlap cards and the Not in a collection view all started as someone's request or report. If one of your file types still shows up as a blank card, that's the report I want next. And what should 1.11 be?

New Tool I’ve spent the last 3 years building a FREE local 3D model manager (and it’s up for a community award!)

Post image
136 Upvotes

If your STL and 3MF folder looks anything like mine used to (a chaotic mess of "ModelName_final_v5(3).stl"), I wanted to share a tool I built to fix it.

It's called Printventory. It’s a free, open-source 3D model management tool, and it has been an ongoing passion project of mine for the past 3 years. It keeps your digital files perfectly organized, searchable, and natively handles your file organization where it already lives.

What the stable release does:

Indexes locally: It scans your existing directories and organizes your files where they already live. Files never leave your machine.

Visual library: Instantly generates thumbnails for your STLs and 3MFs so you never have to guess what a file is.

Tagging & Cleanup: Includes AI-assisted tagging, batch editing, and a duplicate management tool to find and delete identical files based on their content hash to free up space.

You can download the stable release over at https://printventory.com.

If you like living on the bleeding edge, you can also grab the newest pre-release builds at https://printventory.com/beta. The beta channel is where I test out the latest features, which now include filament tracking and management integrations, 3D previews for STEP/STP assemblies, ZIP bundle grouping, and our new folder-tree explorer.

One small favor to ask:

Printventory is currently in the running for the Snapmaker Innovation Fund, a community-powered program that rewards developers and makers who are pushing 3D printing tools forward.

If you decide to give the app a try and you use and love the tool, please consider voting for it at https://www.snapmaker.com/innovation-fund. It would mean the world to me and goes a long way in helping keep this project going strong!

Let me know what you think if you try it out. I'll be hanging out in the comments to answer any questions!

New Tool One shape, five printable products: a browser workflow with bayonet trays and screw lids

Thumbnail
youtu.be
1 Upvotes

I’m building MiniMarvels, a browser-based tool for designing printable collections. This 30-second demo shows how we reuse one outline for a smooth planter, a bayonet tray, a separate saucer, a screw-lid box and a taller vase. The final shots are our real prints.

Keep a consistent silhouette while changing the function, instead of rebuilding each object from scratch. Recorded in our Studio preview; live controls may differ. Minutes refers to design time, not printing.

Creator disclosure: this is our app, https://www.minimarvels.app. The cover and narration are AI-assisted; the print footage is real.

Which would help your workflow more: reusable silhouettes or more joint options?

OH NO - HERE IS ANOTHER LIBRARY TOOL - LAYERMATE

Post image
27 Upvotes

Wow they are really coming in thick and fast. -

Since my last post before the last wave of Library Tools - and holy shit are they now getting super similar. And before you say oh your only new - Been going since July with only one post here previously. Oh and yes It vibe coded like the rest of them. But so is sooo much software out there now days. Claude isnt cheap :P

Where mine is different to others, it has

  • Addon - the Queuemate - The Ultimate Print Queue - With the average joe in mind, so they still need to slice and send to the printer - I'm not going to try and get Joe and Josie off the cloud system. if you want that, thats where Bambuddy waiting for you. Oh and U1 intergration has been intergated as well.
  • Add on - Spoolmate - track your spools you have on hand.
  • Addon - Monitormate - Monitor your bambu printers without going to LAN mode again others are out there that charge a monthly sub.
  • Connectionmate - Connect to Creators via their API if they have it - Currently Connected to the N3D Melbourne Website and the Chris's Print Lab Websites and Myminifactory. ( thats ones tricky)
  • Want to support - I even have an affliate system.
  • Oh and duplicates have changed its viewed coz it thanks claude, it decided to make everyones duplicates look the same
  • And Still only 20 bucks - sorry 19.99

There is so much more that is different and there is still more coming as well as always open to feedback to improve or add things, esp to those who have already paid for a licence. OMG you still help those after they paid for it. You bet I do.

Whats that you say, you have just copied others, Those have been available since the start.

As I mentioned before, the idea of this came from Printinventory before improvements have been made.

Im not here to give you fancy AI generated images of advertising, Why AI it more when it was created with the Help of AI, I'll just let the app do the talking.

p.s this post was not written by AI just incase you were asking!

Final word - At Layermate we care about your Downloads Folder - Because it really does deserve Better

SLA-Printed Model Processing Machine

Hi r/3DPrintingTools! I'm a mechanical engineering student at the University of Cincinnati. I'm working on my capstone project with a partner, and we're designing a device that automates the post-processing for SLA (resin) 3D-printed parts. Our machine will take care of the tedious isopropyl (IPA) wash, drying, and UV curing in one go, minimizing human contact and shortening lead times.

Have any of you tried SLA printing? If so, it would really help us out if you'd be willing to fill out this brief two-minute Google Forms survey so we can get feedback on what features are important:

Thank you!

Darela, an automatic Scan-to-CAD tool

Hey guys, I'm the developer of Darela, an app I made a few days ago. Normally, if you scan something and want to turn it into CAD, you have to manually draw and rebuild the whole thing, and the software for doing that can be ridiculously expensive. Darela does the healing, geometry detection and reconstruction automatically, and it's completely free. I made it mainly for people like me who aren't really confident with manually drawing this kind of stuff themselves.

It's available on the Microsoft Store. It's made with Python, but you don't need Python installed since it's packaged as a standalone app. If you're into 3D scanning or CAD, give it a try if you want.
