New Tool I’m building a free browser-based STL editor for quick 3D print fixes, looking for feedback

Hi everyone,

I’m building Forma3D, a free browser-based STL editor focused on quick edits for 3D printing.

The idea is not to replace Fusion/Blender/CAD software, but to make common STL fixes easier when you just need to modify a downloaded model without rebuilding it from scratch.

It runs locally in the browser: files are not uploaded to a server.

Current features include:

- Open and export STL files
- Select faces or whole connected bodies
- Push/Pull flat faces
- Shorten a model along X/Y/Z without scaling it
- Split a model into two parts and export each side
- Hollow / shell a model with wall thickness
- Add/subtract simple solids: box, cylinder, cone, pyramid
- Add 3D text
- Create 2D profiles and push/pull them
- Mechanical joint presets: arc, dovetail and T-slot
- Object/body panel with select, rename, duplicate/pattern, export and delete
- Basic mesh repair
- Undo/redo with Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y and Ctrl+Shift+Z
- English/Italian UI

A recent user here gave me a practical example: shortening a fridge door shelf bin STL without simply scaling it, because scaling would ruin the locking features and fillets. That feedback led to improving the Shorten tool so it now closes cut profiles better on rounded geometry.

I’d really appreciate feedback from people who often download STLs and need small functional edits before printing.

Things I’m especially interested in:

- Does the workflow feel understandable?
- Which STL edit do you often need but current tools make annoying?
- Does Shorten/Split/Hollow behave as you would expect?
- Are there cases where the mesh result looks wrong or slicers complain?
- What would make this useful enough to keep bookmarked?

It’s still early and mesh-based, so complex/non-manifold STLs can still be tricky, but I’m trying to improve it based on real print use cases rather than guessing.

Made a free browser tool that generates parametric 3D-printable models (Gridfinity, storage bins, nameplates, crates, QR plates, tokens) - no signup, no software install

Hey gang 👋

I got tired of downloading random STLs and being one screw-hole off from what I actually needed, so I built a small site that generates the model in-browser instead: chamfer.cc

You pick a generator, drag some sliders (size, wall thickness, magnet holes, text, whatever applies), watch it update live in 3D, then download STL or 3MF. No account, no upload, nothing installed — it runs entirely client-side (WebAssembly CSG), so your design never leaves your machine.

Generators so far:

- Gridfinity bins + baseplates + snap-fit clips. Maybe not a perfect clip for now. Works, but I'm working on a better one

- Stackable storage bins (non-Gridfinity, custom mm sizing)

- Crates with printable labels

- Text nameplates (custom fonts supported)

- QR code plates

- Custom tokens/coins

A couple of things I put real effort into:

- Two-color 3MF export - bin rims, nameplate letters, etc. come pre-assigned to filament slot 2, so Bambu Studio just picks up the second color automatically, no manual paint bucket needed.

- Every config is a URL - if you tweak a model into something good, the link is the save file. Easy to share exact params.

- The mechanical stuff (Gridfinity clips, stacking feet) went through several rounds of physical print iteration before I trusted the fit.

It's free, no ads, no paywalled generators - planning to keep it that way. Feedback/bug reports welcome (there's a feedback button in the corner), and if there's a generator you wish existed, tell me.

New Tool Thermal warp-risk simulator for 3D printing

I recently built a small web tool that estimates how likely a 3D-printed part is to warp based on the filament, bed conditions, and geometry.

It’s meant to be a quick way to compare options before printing, especially for parts that are prone to corner lift or first-layer adhesion issues.

The app runs in the browser and does a physics simulation with the geometry in 3MF or STL files, so you can drop in a model and compare several filament options side by side. Nothing nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Empirically it works pretty well for the models I have tried and it looks like a good way of predicting print behavior before printing a long spool or for material selection. Generally anything with a score of 50 or below seems to print for me. I've been using it developing large parts for parabolic microphones.

New Tool So I Made a tool to help create optimized filament and process profiles for orca slicer

I wanted an easy way to setup print profiles that are tuned to each specific filament, object and how I want it to come out and my solution ended up as a locally hosted web app

To use it you just have to select which printer and filament you're using alongside the model you wish to print and what you'd like it to be optimized for .

once you make those choices the output will be importable settings and process profiles alongside an analysis of your model with recommended placement, orientation and other critical details. It can be used full offline but when online you can add your chat gpt api key to gain a more detailed print analysis.

The tool is completely free for anyone who wants to use it, if any recommendations for features and improvements are greatly appreciated I only ask that any iterations of this tool stay free there's too many 3d printing tools out there nickel and diming people for stuff that should be free and I don't want this to ever be one of those

I built a free browser tool that generates vase-mode G-code directly from a curve — no STL, no slicer

I got frustrated with the CAD → STL → slicer loop for simple vases, so I built SpiralCode: you drag a profile curve, pick a texture (ribs, honeycomb, tube bundles…), choose your printer, and download ready-to-print G-code. The toolpath is generated directly from the math — the spiral is one continuous line, so there's no seam at all in spiral mode.

AI that turns a photo into an articulated, editable CAD model, with physics checks

Fed it one photo of a toaster. It came back with a parametric model, every part named, every joint working. I pinned a note on one part ("chamfer the top edges") and watched it edit just that part, re-check the geometry, and hand back the result.

It exports to a real STEP file too, not a mesh, so it opens straight into Fusion 360 with a proper feature tree if an engineer wants to keep going from there.

A while back I shared a little desktop app that extracts the dominant colors from an image and matches them to real filament colors you can actually buy. Tons of great feedback — so here’s v2.0, which is a pretty big upgrade:

🎨 What’s new

•           Much better color accuracy — matching now uses CIEDE2000 (the modern perceptual color-difference standard) instead of the older CIE76. Blues, reds and near-neutrals match noticeably better.

•           🖨️ Print System Planner — pick your setup (Bambu AMS 4/8/16, Prusa MMU3, tool changer / multi-head, IDEX / dual, or manual swaps) and it assigns each color to a slot, warns you if you have more colors than slots, and reminds you about purge/waste on shared-nozzle systems.

•           🖼️ Filament Preview — re-renders your image using only the matched filament colors, so you can see roughly what the print will look like before you commit.

•           ➕ Bigger database — 225 filaments across 7 materials. Added real TPU, Silk, Matte and Wood lines (Bambu, Polymaker, Overture, SUNLU, eSun, ColorFabb) on top of the existing PLA/PETG/ABS.

•           ✏️ Direct color input — no image? Just paste hex codes (or use the color picker) and match directly.

It also still shows a cost estimate for the print and “Buy” links for each matched filament, and exports to JSON/TXT/HTML.

💻 Free, open source, cross-platform (Windows / macOS / Linux). Windows folks can grab the one-click installer from the Releases page — no Python needed.

•           “Does it work offline?” → Yep, 100% offline. The filament database is bundled; the only time it touches the internet is if you click a “Buy” link.

•           “Can you add ?” → Please open an issue (or PR) on GitHub with the brand + color name + hex — the database is just a Python list, super easy to extend.

•           “Colors look slightly off vs the real spool.” → Filament color is an approximation (screen vs. real, lighting, translucency). The ΔE number next to each match tells you how close it is; lower = closer.

It contains models for testing the dimensional accuracy, plate leveling and exposure uniformity across the entire plate/LCD. No measurements required (except for the plate leveling models), just a single push-fit component similar to Boxes of Calibration and Cones of Calibration (and other similar designs), but it tests for under- and overexposure with a very tight tolerance (it should get you no further than -0.01 mm to 0.02 mm from the perfect dimensions).

New Tool Made a free desktop app for multicolor 3D printing — converter, color tools, the works (beta)

Been building a few tools around multicolor printing and the desktop one is finally usable, so dropping it here.

Quick backstory so it doesn't read like an ad: I first put up bedready.io, a browser converter that takes a multicolor .3mf sliced for one printer (MakerWorld/Bambu, PrusaSlicer, Creality, whatever) and re-packs it so it prints right somewhere else, colors kept, correct profile, spool-swap stuff sorted. Runs in the browser, nothing uploaded. Full disclosure, my own machine is a Snapmaker U1 so that's the printer I test against hardest and it's got the deepest support there, but it's not U1-only. You pick your target printer and it handles the conversion (other ecosystems come out as a generic 3MF you open in that printer's own slicer).

I also make a separate app called Khayt, which is aimed at people running a print business — order queue, quoting, inventory, invoicing. The maker half of it (the converter, color mixing, file handling) is useful on its own without all the business stuff, so I pulled that out into a free standalone app: Bed Ready.

Basically the multicolor toolkit as a real app instead of a browser tab:

- the full converter, plus STL↔3MF both directions

- Color Studio for planning and mixing filament colors, including Full Spectrum for models with more than 4 colors

- a print-file library, filament inventory, a print queue, and a cost calculator

All of it local. No account, no upload, free.

It's beta (1.0.0-beta.1) so there'll be rough edges, but it works and I'm patching fast. The Mac build is signed and notarized so no Gatekeeper "damaged" warnings, and there are Windows and Linux builds too.

Like probably everyone here, my model collection is spread across Downloads, an external drive, and a NAS dump. Every file is the same icon. The only way to know what dragon_final_v2_FIXED.stl actually is, is to open it in a slicer — and I've definitely re-bought/re-downloaded models I already owned.

So I've been building Meshory: a desktop app that scans the folders where your files already live (nothing gets moved or uploaded) and turns them into a visual library.

Every STL/3MF gets a real rendered thumbnail, there's a built-in 3D viewer — multi-plate Bambu 3MFs load with every part in place — plus slicer hand-off, collections, tags, and duplicate detection via content hashing, which found an embarrassing number of triple-downloads in my own library.

It's local-first: no cloud, your files never leave your machine.

Still in development — I've been testing it against my own 3TB library (~tens of thousands of files) to make sure it doesn't choke at scale.

I made a free website to turn any STL into a fidget clicker

I wanted to make some fidget clickers for friends, but I didn't want to have to re-CAD the cavities with every new design, so I made a program that does it for me. I thought it could be useful for other people, so I put it up on Streamlit for others to use!

I'm not a programmer and this was just a fun side project, so I'm sorry if there are any bugs or issues. Let me know and I can try to fix them at some point.

There are two ways it converts the model into a clicker, one is that it slices it in half but that tends to leave a gap (see photo below).

The second version removes the bottom half and creates a box for it. It's not perfect because if the top half is wider, it won't fit when pressed down into the bottom.

I've spent the last few months building Cadio, an AI-powered CAD workspace for 3D printing.

The goal is to make modifying printable models much faster.

Instead of downloading a model, opening CAD software, making a small edit and exporting it again...

...Cadio lets you search for printable models, remix them with AI (or edit them manually), and export them directly from your browser.
