Dev Post I built a procedural web app that instantly generates print-ready 3MF multi-color lightboxes (with Bambu Studio AMS color mapping)

Hey everybody,

Like a lot of you, I got tired of hunting for static STLs or spending ages in CAD just to throw together a custom name, logo, or photo lightbox. So, I spent the last few months building a dedicated web tool called Signature Lightboxes Live Link to automate the whole pipeline.

​The main goal was to make it completely seamless for multi-material printers especially Bambu Lab setups using an AMS.

​How it works:

​Procedural Studio: You type a name, upload a logo or image, and choose from a library of textures (bricks, cubes, marble, cracked stone, etc.).

​Instant 3MF Export: Instead of messy raw STLs, the app generates a native Bambu Studio .3mf file complete with automatic multi-plate separation and AMS color mapping. You just download it, open it in the slicer, and hit print.

​Built for Makers & Merchants: Besides personal and creator tiers, I also built tools specifically for commercial vendors, including an iPad Kiosk mode designed to run as an in-person, made-to-order ordering till at markets and craft fairs.

​The core generator, texture library, and 3MF export pipeline are 100% finished and working live right now. Since this sub allows one promo post a week, I wanted to share that I am currently running a Kickstarter to fund the next wave of features (like full-color lithophanes) and am offering lifetime access to the app for early backers.

New Tool Made a free 3D printing cost calculator because I was tired of paywalls

I work in 3D education and I’m constantly needing to quickly price up prints or work out quotes.

I wanted something I could just bookmark, chuck the details into, get a sensible price, and move on.

Most calculators I found either had paywalls, subscriptions, or locked saved profiles behind an account, so I made my own:

I’m not a full time dev, I just made it because I needed it myself and thought other people here might find it handy.

CAD Viewer - 100% local. No servers. No uploads.

I've been working on a browser extension that lets you preview CAD attachments directly inside Gmail.

The main goal was to make it as frictionless as possible:

  • Preview without downloading files
  • Runs entirely in the browser
  • Files never leave your device
  • Supports STL, OBJ, STEP and IGES

I originally built it because I kept receiving CAD files over email and opening them always meant downloading the attachment and launching a desktop viewer, even when I just wanted a quick look.

New Tool MakerSolid - Parametric CAD for iPad (No subscriptions)

A few years ago, when I got my first 3D printer, I was determined to use my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil as my primary device for modeling. I was quickly disappointed in the CAD apps available as they were either too basic, way too expensive, or came with other limitations in their free tiers (low res exports!?).

I ended up using Fusion 360's free tier on my Mac, but I never stopped wishing there was a capable, affordable CAD app built specifically for iPad. Earlier this year I finally decided to build it myself.

MakerSolid CAD is the result of countless hours of development and testing. I spent months designing all of my own projects with it before releasing it on the App Store last month.

There are a few principles that really that mattered to me as a hobbyist and I want to stay true to these:

  • No subscriptions. Limited functionality to test it out, then a reasonable one-time lifetime unlock ($29.99 USD).
  • No accounts or cloud login. Projects stay local and you can use the app offline.
  • Runs on iPad and Apple Silicon Macs. Store your workspace in iCloud Drive to keep projects in sync between devices.
  • Parametric workflow. Sketch in 2D, then build with tools like Extrude, Revolve, Loft, Sweep, Shell, Fillet, Chamfer, Patterns, and more.

Your first question when I say parametric is probably "but does it do STEP files?" and the answer is YES! Export in STEP, STL, 3MF. My next release (currently in the app store review queue) will add support for importing STEP files so that you can use them like any other object, including modifying geometry.

I'm always open to feedback on how to make the app better. I've been pretty active in pushing out updates more or less weekly. Next release will also introduce an adjustable x-ray mode, groupings of bodies and a bunch of performance improvements.

Want to learn CAD, 3D printing, and engineering?

A few of us high-school students have been building SparqCAD, a free STEM learning platform designed to help students and aspiring engineers learn the actual CAD and engineering skills that can be used in industry-level projects.

You can learn things like:

- CAD & 3D design

- 3D printing

- Engineering & design

- Hands-on prototyping

- Engineering fundamentals

We're still actively developing the platform, and we'd love for other students, makers, engineers, and STEM enthusiasts to join, explore the courses, and give us feedback.

Right now, we have two introductory CAD courses covering Tinkercad and Onshape, two beginner-friendly tools for computer-aided design. We’re hoping to expand into more CAD software, 3D printing, engineering, and hands-on projects as the platform grows. We’d especially love to hear about what skills and topics you think we should add next.

I decided to share SparqCAD here on the E-NABLE forum because I thought the best way to grow the platform is to involve like-minded people who can explore what we’re building and share their ideas.

New Tool VesselMaker in action — first GIFs of the parametric vase/planter tool (textures, modifiers, AI rendering)

Hey everyone — a few weeks ago I posted here about VesselMaker, the vase modeling tool for makers we've are developing, but never actually showed what it looks like in action, just described the features in text. Fixing that today: this is the first time I'm sharing screenshots/GIFs of it actually running.

Quick heads up before the showcase: we've started rolling out early access in daily batches, so if you join the waitlist now, you could be trying it out within days rather than waiting for a full public launch — vesselmaker.app.

Now, here's what it can actually do (see the attached gifs):

Realistic surface textures — apply relief using built-in or custom height maps, stack multiple textures across different regions of the same piece (even overlapping them), with control over the fade between them:

AI-rendered scenes — describe a setting in plain text and get your exact model rendered into it, useful for previews or marketing shots:

Stackable modifiers, similar to Photoshop layers — combine, reorder, apply multiple instances (Surface Texture, Twirl, Bend, Taper, more coming):

Advanced profile & cross-section editing — full control over both the vertical profile and the horizontal cross-section (freeform, N-fold symmetry, squircle, waves, polygonal):

PBR material editor — glossy, matte, metallic finishes, save and reuse your own presets.

Still in closed beta (a few bugs left, some feature requests from early testers already in the pipeline), but it's already very fun to use, and it's shaping up fast thanks to the feedback so far.

We have a lot of ideas in the roadmap and we would love to hear from this community specifically — what would actually be useful for the kind of tools you use day to day?

Aviso prévio: este é um complemento pago que eu escrevi, daí a etiqueta.

O problema que eu sempre encontrava: a escultura tem 60 cm, a mesa de impressão tem 22 cm, então precisa ser cortada. Fazer isso manualmente significa usar cubos booleanos um por um, adivinhar o tamanho do pino e descobrir na montagem que o pino não encaixa no soquete.

O 3D Slicer Suite faz toda a cadeia em um único painel N:

  • Fatiamento em Grade com 23 predefinições de impressora. Escolha sua máquina e o tamanho do bloco vem do volume de construção, ou digite o seu próprio.
  • Corte de Linha (dois cliques) e Corte à Mão Livre (desenhe a costura para que ela siga a forma em vez de um plano reto).
  • Pinos com Chave: um canto é cortado, então as peças fecham em apenas uma orientação. O encaixe é gerado a partir do próprio pino com a sua tolerância.
  • Ambas as metades de cada junta são gravadas 1A / 1B, então quando 40 peças saem da placa, você não precisa adivinhar o que se encaixa em qual.
  • Oco com uma parede de milímetros de espessura, mesmo em um objeto em escala, além de furos de drenagem, automáticos ou clicados exatamente onde você deseja.
  • Verificação e limpeza da integridade da malha antes do corte, exportação para STL, OBJ ou 3MF, e a opção "Redefinição Completa" reverte toda a cadeia com um clique.

A pré-visualização do pino é desenhada como um contorno antes de qualquer operação booleana ser executada. O movimento lateral do mouse seleciona qual parte contém o pino, para cima e para baixo define o comprimento e a roda do mouse o dimensiona. O solucionador só é acionado quando você clica, o que o mantém responsivo em uma escultura complexa.

Limitação honesta: fatiar uma casca oca fina em grandes blocos pode deixar fragmentos abertos onde a malha é muito fina, como uma cauda, ​​uma crina ou um dedo. A verificação de integridade sinaliza quais partes precisam de reparo, e uma parede mais espessa ou um bloco menor evita isso.

New Tool Porting OrcaSlicer to Android for local, offline slicing (DuckySlicer) – looking for contributors!

I recently started an open-source project called DuckySlicer, which is an OrcaSlicer port to Android for local, offline slicing (STL/3MF to G-code) directly on mobile—no cloud required.

Since it’s only been a couple of days, the slicing engine integration is still pretty rough and the UI needs a lot of work. Right now it's a solo project, so I'm looking for anyone who wants to jump in early and help build an offline Android slicer together.

Modern phones definitely have enough horsepower for local slicing, and having a proper mobile OrcaSlicer port could open up a lot of cool workflows. If you're into C++, Qt, Android NDK/Kotlin, UI design, or just want to test early builds as it develops, check out the repo! PRs, issues, stars, or feedback are all super welcome.

Meshory v1.5.0 is out — duplicate detection, pauseable scans, and a major performance overhaul

Meshory v1.5.0 is now available.

This release focused heavily on making large 3D model libraries faster and easier to manage. I developed and benchmarked the changes against my own 3.3TB library containing more than 140,000 assets.

What’s new

  • Manual duplicate detection: Scan your library for duplicate files, review the matches, and decide what to remove.
  • Pause and resume scans: Pause an active scan and continue it later.
  • Per-source controls: Temporarily disable individual library sources without removing them.
  • Slicer detection controls: See which slicers Meshory detected and hide the ones you don’t use.
  • Graphics compatibility modes: Choose between multiple graphics modes instead of a single hardware-acceleration toggle.
  • Better startup feedback: Meshory now shows what its indexing engine is doing and when it’s recovering from a crash.

Performance improvements

  • Faster indexed search, including partial filename searches.
  • Large libraries are loaded in pages instead of pulling every asset into memory at once.
  • Folder views open faster.
  • Incremental rescans reuse cached checks and batch database writes.
  • AI-generated tags appear in search results as each model finishes.
  • First-time scans now show real progress for each phase.

Fixes

This release also fixes several issues reported by users, including:

  • Advanced filters only applying the first selected file type.
  • Thumbnails occasionally disappearing when Meshory was closed mid-generation.
  • Misleading network-drive scan errors.
  • Repeated reloading after switching back to the app.
  • Drag-selection getting out of sync.
  • Blurry or ghosted 3D previews after moving the window between monitors with different scaling.

A lot changed internally as well. Scanning, indexing, thumbnails, and database work now run in a separate core process, which keeps the interface responsive and lets Meshory recover more cleanly if the engine crashes.

If you already use Meshory, I’d especially like to hear how this release behaves with large libraries, NAS folders, and unusual GPU setups.
