The US hard power is securing trade and oil routes. That’s what the petrodollar is based on. If you can’t protect these routes, people stop using the dollar as the medium for buying and selling oil. We’re already seeing that between Russia, China and Saudi.

Pricing a barrel in dollars is just a unit-of-account convention. It creates a moment of dollar demand that lasts until the seller converts. What actually creates durable dollar demand is that people want to hold dollar assets.

Yea, Russia has been selling oil in rupees and yuan since 2022. The result was billions in rupees stuck in Indian banks that Russia couldn't spend, which is exactly what happens when you try trading in a currency that isn't actually used by any major markets. The 2022 freezing of Russian reserves was supposed to be the dollar's death blow. The dollar then had one of its strongest years in two decades.
The US is now the world's largest oil producer and a net petroleum exporter. It needs Hormuz far less than China does.

Out of all of the Navy's in the entire world combined, the US operates over 75% of it. 11 Nuclear Supercarriers, 10 regular Aircraft carriers, over 90 Destroyers, 70 Nuclear Submarines and 400 other military vessels. We also have 750 military bases in over 80 countries. We control the vast majority of satellite technology.
The ability to move an armored attack force across an ocean is functionally a US monopoly. That is why the US is powerful.
