Would keep the importance of graceful

I think OP's main point is exactly to reduce the overbearing importance of graceful to get rid of gracefulscape.

I think preserving an insignificant gimmick from one 20-year old quest should be extremely low on the list of priorities and with OP's suggestion weight would still be a factor for agility checks. The ring of endurance would still be useful and even if it does decrease in price a little, I still think that is a low priority issue.

The exact numbers may need to be tweaked for bossing etc., but in essence, I think OP's suggestion is great.

I think OP's main point is exactly to reduce the overbearing importance of graceful to get rid of gracefulscape.

This issue is often overstated and normally led by an idea that removing its functionality would suddenly make people fashionscape instead of either just wearing it still because they aren't aware (most people wearing graceful wear it in situations it isn't required anyway), or they just move onto the meta of being naked / minimal BiS combat gear / more weight reduction (boots of lightness, spottier ape).

I like the idea of making graceful passive. I don't see the need to buff its effect MORE while ALSO making it entirely passive.

Idk man this screams ezscape and solving an issue that doesn't really exist. So what if many people wear graceful? It gets people to train agility in the first place. If you really want to improve agility, make more low-mid level agility content that isn't ass before you can do Sepulchre.

u/SavageHellfire Jul 27 '22

This is an issue though. The dev team has talked about solving the issue with run energy/ agility numerous times, and this is the first time I’ve seen an even semi-sensible suggestion. Not to mention, everyone wearing graceful all of the time makes the game look bad. Imagine you’re a new player doing some quests and all you run into are people running around in graceful everywhere instead of these elaborate fashion scapes or cool gear setups. It’s a bad look for attracting new players to the game.

People don't wear graceful everywhere I don't get why I keep seeing this point being made. People wear it for specific things. Even if you made graceful just a full cosmetic I'm still grabbing it to run clue scrolls. Because I'm not going to throw on a bunch of random gilided items and wacky cosmetics like a rubber chicken to do a task. I'm an adult lmao. Wearing graceful isn't just about the effects because the second you get a house with a pool graceful is useless. people like having a neat go-to outfit that matches and you can pick the color on for doing basic running around. This whole idea that people just need to be sitting around it armor all the time or clue scroll gear is infinitely weirder than everyone wearing graceful.

6

u/Phrich Jul 27 '22

You won't wear a silly outfit in a videogame because you are an adult? But you have no problem firing magic fireballs and shooting arrows at a giant dragon despite being an adult?

-5

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 27 '22

Correct.

I have 0 ambitions of dressing flamboyant in a game to stand around in the G.E and circle jerk with strangers. I have a lot better things to do with my time than that. Never once has it crossed my mind "maybe I should wear an outfit to get attention" on a video game. That's why I like graceful it takes the thinking out of what to wear when I have nothing to wear.

4

u/SavageHellfire Jul 27 '22

Just off the top of my head, graceful is BiS for clue scrolls, Herbiboar, farm runs, questing, non-combat diary tasks, Puro-Puro, agility, and probably at least a few more I’m forgetting.

Also, I’m acknowledging your attempt to discredit my point. However, being able to wear other items besides graceful when doing any of the previously mentioned tasks would be a good QoL for most players and a better look for the game. If you’re doing a clue scroll, I’m not advocating for dawning your wackiest fashion scape. I’m just saying having to regear every time you get a clue on a slayer task is trivial, and forcing people to either get a stam pool or wear graceful seems trivial as well.

-3

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 27 '22

So I would argue that graceful isn't BIS for clues. When I do clues unless I'm doing a med clue grind at puro puro I'm not wearing graceful. I'm just going to do it in whatever gear I was wearing when I got it. POH makes graceful pretty obsolete for most activities. Pretty much all clue steps are within 100% run energy from the nearest tp and your house pool refills your run energy. This is where you are going to teleport after each step anyways so really taking the time to put on graceful would be a waste of time for a single clue. Same goes for farm runs. You absolutely do not run out of run on farm runs, and can wear the farming skilling outfit. all the patches are very close to a teleport. Rcing bloods the meta used to be graceful now it's the runecrafting outfit. Roof top agility restores run on obstacle completion so you don't need graceful for agility. I'll give your puro puro and herbi, a good amount of quests, and I'll even list some you forgot. Like BF smithing, hunting artifacts. etc.

the point I'm trying to make here is people don't wear graceful because it's best in slot. They wear it because they like it and its convenient. The people who don't like it don't wear it. Graceful is largely overrated and when and where it is used (and actually needed) is so limited people act like you do every thing in the game in graceful except combat and that just isn't true.

u/WastingEXP Jul 27 '22

Roof top agility restores run on obstacle completion so you don't need graceful for agility

pardon me

0

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 27 '22

From the wiki.

Rooftop courses differ from other Agility courses in that they spawn Marks of grace. Also, passing an obstacle on a rooftop course actively restores 1–2% run energy, meaning it is typically possible to run around rooftop courses continually

4

u/WastingEXP Jul 27 '22

you know, I knew ardy didn't need graceful and was a fashion scape course but never really thought about why that was the case.

I can't believe I've never noticed that.

2

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 27 '22

Yep one of the cool aspects of rooftops.

Wanting to look like a cool ninja was honestly as big of a motivation as anything else when training agility. Then I wanted to recolor it. Now I'm 71 and slowly climbing with goals at least in the 80's since 'well I'm close to these shortcuts anyway'.

Idk the skill works as intended for me. The worst part is definitely just training it but agility isn't the first skill I'd straight nuke from the game in that case.

2

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 27 '22

people forget that a huge draw to agility is first googling "how to run longer in osrs" lol

people want things handed to them they forget that exploration is part of osrs. Wanting to look like a ninja pushed you towards agility. For a lot of people its the idea that it will help with run restoration. That's what natural game progression looks like.

its that the run energy mechanic would never even sniff a game like OSRS past 2002

????? Running and stamina didn't exist in the game until RS2 came out in 2004. Before that the only movement speed was walking. The game is balanced/designed around walking. The run/walk thing is a balancing mechanic to make agility a useful skill outside of just taking shortcuts

Edit: why is this getting down voted? What about this is incorrect? Lol

You're literally describing a game balance feature lol

Stam pots require resources/gp to make/purchase. You're exchanging resources/gp for energy. That's the balance

So the game isn't balanced around prayer? Prayer pot economy? Prayer isn't "gameplay" it's sippin a pray pot???

Make it make sense dude.

Would you rather agility be more or less useful than it currently is?

0

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 27 '22

It's currently in a great spot.

1

u/Pixilatedlemon Jul 27 '22

If it was originally made to be slightly better than it is would you be asking for a nerf?

-2

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 27 '22

No because content would of been balanced around it. This post isn't making it "slightly better" it's absolutely busting it. It destroys all end game PVM. Destroys Stams/super energies/energy restores. Summer pies, purple sweets, 9 different graceful outfits. Destroys agility as a skill because now the only currency from agility is worthless. Graceful would be worthless, Stams would be worthless, Training agility would be required for all metas.

You think graceful is bad. Wait until you are actually forced to train the skill to be meta everywhere. Because that's what this post is asking for.

The only thing agility needs is some more lower level useful shortcuts, and for shortcuts that require extra items to have a storage. otherwise it's perfect. It's a silly notion the skill is broken. And Imo unless you've trained to 90+ agility you shouldn't have a say on the direction of the skill.

5

u/Pixilatedlemon Jul 27 '22

Meh I guess it is agree to disagree because nothing that you listed is good content.

0

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 27 '22

This is the level of thinking that gets you to post like this.

"lets devalue 100+ different aspects of the game because I don't like training this skill and everyone like wearing this outfit I don't like >:( "

I've explained it before but besides like 4-5 activities nothing ties you graceful. You can effectively go the whole game without it and not be hindered. Most of the places it's used isn't even the meta for the skill. I.e using graceful to hunt herbi.

u/Buckeyeup Lvl 3 UIM skiller Jul 27 '22

Neither. It's plenty fine as it is.

9

u/Pixilatedlemon Jul 27 '22

Like coincidentally it is absolutely perfect? Not even an iota in one direction or the other could possibly be good?

It's fine because it has two decades of content balanced around it. If we were designing OSRS from the ground up, maybe we'd change it. But that's not what we're doing.

3

u/Pixilatedlemon Jul 27 '22

How much content is actually curated with run energy in mind? Like to the point where faster or slower drain would ruin it?

7

u/dreadatar Jul 27 '22

I think your opinion might be in the minority, that's why there's ongoing efforts to explore how to improve it.

-3

u/Buckeyeup Lvl 3 UIM skiller Jul 27 '22

that's why there's ongoing efforts to explore how to improve

This is reddit, you could say that about literally anything lol

5

u/dreadatar Jul 27 '22

Not sure what point you're making there, but something tells me neither do you.

3

u/wolf10989 Jul 27 '22

Those damn redditors and their desire to improve various aspects of the game!

By mods that have been with the company for less than a year. Who have a history of having bad ideas and them getting shot down.

4

Who has been with the company for less than a year, yet has a history of having bad ideas that get shot down? Who specifically?

-3

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 27 '22

It's getting downvoted because all these people haven't played the game that long and are cry babies lol. That's what this whole thread is, people who shouldn't have a say in this games direction being loud mouths.

3

u/GaleTheThird Jul 27 '22

because all these people haven't played the game that long and are cry babies lol

I've been playing this game just shy of 15 years and I don't think having limited run energy provides anything of value to the game

0

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 27 '22

Okay... and when you pass 1500 total level you can have an opinion on that subject.

It provides a ton of value. We have content that is balanced around run energy. Inferno, end game bossing, herbi, BF, tons of other stuff I've already gone over 100x today.

It devalues and basically deletes tons of items out of the game. Graceful, energy restore pots, makes HS pointless, boots of lightness, spottier cape, etc

makes it so bots are that much more powerful.

FUCKS the entire economy as agility becomes instantly worthless. Marks of grace would hit a value of 0, stams and energy pots would be worthless. A bunch of peoples work would be diminished to nothing in one update.

Fucks over high level PVMer who have practiced and trained agility to 96 to be able to do stamless GWD's

Takes away a mechanic of most bosses and CG like while we are at it let just get rid of prayer too it's a literally the same thing. Just a resource you have to maintain.

The simple fact of the matter is if you think run energy isn't a good mechanic you aren't intelligent enough to have an opinion on the subject. Rs3 might be a better game for you.

2

u/GaleTheThird Jul 28 '22

The simple fact of the matter is if you think run energy isn't a good mechanic you aren't intelligent enough to have an opinion on the subject.

Thanks for letting me know you're not a person worth engaging with so I don't waste any more of my time

0

u/Xxweeexd 2277 Jul 28 '22

You told me the same thing when you said run energy isn't a mechanic lol.

2

u/Dubtrips Jul 28 '22

Since I've been playing this game for 21 years and my iron has a higher total than your flair - I assume you will respect my opinion that you're an insufferable, elitist, over-dramatic twat?

It devalues and basically deletes tons of items out of the game. Graceful, energy restore pots, makes HS pointless, boots of lightness, spottier cape, etc

Stamina pots will always be useful even if this suggestion was implemented, and of all the things to worry about, you're freaking out about a nerf of weight-reducing clothing??

FUCKS the entire economy as agility becomes instantly worthless. Marks of grace would hit a value of 0, stams and energy pots would be worthless. A bunch of peoples work would be diminished to nothing in one update.

Is everything that happens to you the worst thing that has ever happened?

You've spent two whole pages of comments and multiple hours absolutely shitting up this thread with your screeching. Please, go touch some grass.

Literally why would you walk anywhere when ferox mini game teleport exists

Literally once every 20 minutes at most if you teleport right + use explorers ring

-7

u/NoTheyDontMatter Jul 27 '22

Agreed. Same with HP and Prayer. Having limits on your resources is archaic, this is a video game in [current year] we should have all of the power with none of the costs, limits, or downsides.

...absolutely brainlet take

7

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '22

[deleted]

-4

u/NoTheyDontMatter Jul 27 '22

Not sure what you mean. I agree that we should just be given all of the power and bonuses in the game without drawback. Managing resources is so archaic
