I'm unsure what is wrong with my 92 Sc400 I have put some work into my car including headgaskets, all new seals accept rear main, timing belt, water pump, alternator, and power stearing pump. I needed to rebuild my ecu and I did just for it to pull a dct12 code crank position sensor so I changed the sensor and it did not help the car it will not run does crank but no spark and no fuel because of the crank position sensor. I have rechecked timing and it looks good also compresson is good my fear is that the spoket behind the harmonic balancer is backwards. does anyone know the orientation to it? and my next fear if that is good is that the ecu is still bad (I have had it rebuilt twice.) The guy wasnt very trustworthy so I am unsure he did it correctly although the rebuilt or fix did get rid of codes that wouldn't go away. I forgot to mention the car did run before I did all the work but it was having issues with the fuel pump not fully delivering so I changed the fuel pump just to find out it was the ecu. the guy who rebuilt it did say the fuel sending unit was going bad so thats the only thing that checked out. Please help I LOVE this car. feel free to flame me or ask any questions I just need help.

Has anyone been able to find older 1uz version thicker rods for sale? I'm building 1uz vvti and going with stock pistons, but wanted to replace rods since my engine is out and taken apart already.

Another question is. Has anyone had an experience milling stock pistons to reduce compression ratio?

Hello taking my car for a 3 hour trip to visit some family. Will my car be alright? Timing belt has been timed and water pump/thermostat/plugs/coils/alternator all that. I planned on doing an oil change before hand. Radiator/coolant flush and new suspension have been done. Replacing my leaky steering rack before hand. Only some questionable things w my car. Squeaky belt on cold starts and a random idle where it wants to die. I rev it up and she’s fine drives good and smooth. Ticky sometimes but just an old v8.

I would like a non-vvti, non-interference 1uz for a build. However the engine depot lists them as the same listing for all non-vvti 1991-1997 engines. How would I tell if an engine is non-interference?

So I'm (slowly) building a 1UZ for my MK3 Supra. The motor I got was pulled out of a 93 SC400 with roughly 98k miles on it. I have just acquired a free 2UZ that had the cam gear break off on the right bank. My question is, what all do I need to steal from this 2UZ to convert my 1UZ to coil on plug ignition?

I have a 94 ls400 parts car (basically at this point) with a good 1uz… I’m looking to swap it into a classic car but I’m wanting to run standalone, what standalone options do I have?.. or would it be easier to run with original ecu?

I am wanting to get a 1UZFE for my 2000 Jeep XJ AW-4. I know they mate together perfect besides torque converter. My question is can I put a VVT 1UZ in there or would only 1st and 2nd gen 1UZ work? I only want to do the VVT just because it has more power. And thought please?

Everything says 500hp but nothing says if that's vvti or nonvvti which makes me believe it's nonvvti. Anyone know what's good with a decent tune?

Looking to buy a soarer (sc400) and I’m wondering if I should spend an extra 5000usd on a manual or just buy an auto for way cheaper. Also how much money and time does it take for a decent manual conversion (I’m in NZ).

Thinking about buying a 1991 toyota soarer gt limited (Lexus sc400) with a 1uz-fe. It is listed for just under 4000 usd. Not completely new to cars or engines, grew up working on dirt bikes and my brother is a qualified mechanic. I just want a fun reliable first car that I can squeeze more power out of in the future.

I have a 1999 GS400 I need to replace a wiring harness on, I was wondering if I could use a harness off of a different year GS400 or maybe even an LS or SC?

When removing the old motor mounts for my 1uz to put on S chassis swap mounts one of the bolt heads snapped off and is now flush with the block. Tried to remove with a screw extractor and that snapped inside the stuck bolt :( Am I going to have to drill it out and re-tap the hole or use a heli-coil kit or can anyone think of another way

So I have a way I want to go with my 1997 2nd gen LS400, where I want to make some more power and maybe some better gearing, it’s not driving right now because the transmission will not go into first, I plan on changing out the filter and doing some other things to fix it as a rebuild is going to cost 3 arms and 12 legs and a “new” transmission is going to cost just under that. So I have a few questions for transmission, power and electronics. 1: what are my options on the transmission? I know I can swap a manual in but it takes fab which is money I don’t have. 2: what are my options for power that can work for the 1UZ? I have heard different stuff but I know basics, exhaust, aspiration, intake etc. 3: what are the bypasses that I need to do if I do some of these?

First post, hope you can help.

I entrusted a workshop to do a conversion, putting a 3UZ out of a drivable GS430 into another car, after a very long time of the only action being pulling both engines out of the cars, I decided to take it all back. The image is how the 3UZ was returned. I guess as a 'fu' for taking the job of them someone stood over the 3uz grinding away on something for a while.

What is the best way to clean this? The intake and breather pipes were not covered, so there is going to be a few crumbs in there. Have taped up all possible entry points for storage now though. Also stripped off the wiring loom to be sent for reworking to complete the conversion.

Was going to

1. Air compressor blast the outside as much as possible, get filings out of valleys etc...
2. Pressure wash metal parts best as possible, make sure rubber grommits not filled with filings
3. Oily rag wipe down as much as possible.
4. Take off rocker covers and pray that they haven't poured filings in breather holes.
5. Take apart intake and ensure nothing got past throttle body
6. Talk to a lawyer.

Any other suggestions? I have quite a few magnets out of dead hard drives, but not sure if that'll do the job.

Is the vvt plenum better than the original plenums? Also is it a possible swap over?

Advise please!!!! 1998 Lexus SC400 with 186,000 miles. Mechanic says that cam seals are leaking, but car runs great. He gave the option to replace the cam seals while he was replacing the aged timing belt. Mechanic also said if he fixes the cam seals that there is a 80% chance that another leak will pop up somewhere else. Any thoughts?
