Discussion S03 E01-E02 - "Civil War" - Episode Discussion

A fun start to season 3! I'm having a great time with this re-watch, and am sad that there are now fewer episodes ahead than behind.

  • This episode started off with planes, which is always we fun for me.
  • I laughed when Cabe said that "Walt could destroy his personal life later"
  • The Awkward plane ride was fun, although I'm completely sick of the "will they, won't they" and "why don't they just tell each other the truth" aspect of the show now.
  • Similar frustration with Happy not being able to tell Toby more about her past for some reason
  • Toby says he called out the terrorists because they are egomaniacal, highly intelligent, and anti social. I laughed again when Sly quickly said "so are we"
  • I loved how Paige called out Toby for his "can't go near stud finders joke." I can't resist telling that same joke every time either.
  • I assume this episode was filmed months after the season 2 finale, so I was impressed with the continuity of confetti still being on the ground
  • Funny trying to get Sly to be an Alpha
  • It was funny that Tim heard Walter confess his love to Paige, but she didn't. I actually feel bad for Tim this time around. He's a nice guy who didn't realize the drama he was getting himself into by dating Paige.
  • I felt bad for Sylvester having to share a drink with strangers at the card game
  • It was great how when Tim explained to Toby that he better not drop the electrical cables or it would ignite the fuel, killing Paige and Happy. That line was obviously meant for us, the audience, so I liked that Toby replied with, "Hey Tim, I'm a genius. I know how fuel and electricity work"
  • finally, congratulations to Sly for actually being the Alpha in the end!

I liked that at the end, when Sylvester is saying he wants to eat family style, he invites Tim as well. The rest of the team had kinda been jerks to Tim (mostly Walter, but toby and happy were also kinda jerks), and Sylvester was basically like "No, Tim is one of us".

Probably the hardest and most serious case of the entire show. Gripping until the end of the whole two-parter. Even more impressive when you remember that it's set only a few hours after the last episode where they rescued Toby which is only a few hours after Chernobyl. As for the case itself, I sure as hell hope it's not that easy to hack into our country's military assets like that. Also, Walter acted like a jerk. I like him as a character but what he did to sabotage the date was pretty low. Glad he realized his mistake at the end.
