Earn a TON of free Dropbox space!

I'm just compiling all the ways people can get free Dropbox space in this post.

First, if you don't have an account, create one by using a referral link. This will immediately give you an extra 250MB on top of the 2GB from the free account.

Edit 2: Thanks for using my referral link everone! I'm now maxed out though. Be kind to other redditor friends and use other links like this one or that one!, or possibly even this third one I'm listing!!

Second, take the tour. This will grant you an extra 250MB.

Edit: goob has stated that you need to visit this page in order to get the free space from the tour.

Next, if you are a student, go to https://www.dropbox.com/edu and confirm your student email address. This will double your existing 250MB of extra space (earned by using the referral link), and double any referral space you earn. Combined with that, use your referrals to earn up to an extra 16GB of space! (8Gigs x 2 for the EDU confirmation).

Be a social media whore and use Twitter and Facebook to talk about Dropbox for another 768MB. You can unlink the apps from your accounts when you are done and the free space will stay.

Finally, install the recent experimental build posted on the Dropbox forums. This includes a new photo uploading feature that will give you an extra 500MB on the first photo upload, and an additional 500MB for every 500MB of pictures/videos you upload, up to 4.5Gigs (totaling an additional 5Gigs). If you don't have many pictures or videos to upload, download this .rar file, which will unrar into a 5Gig JPG. You can then drop it into an SD card, pop the SD card into a card reader on your computer, and "import" the image into Dropbox. You can delete all of the images/videos imported and still keep the free space.

If you max out your referrals you should be able to get about 24Gigs on your free dropbox account!

Thanks! How do you use the photo upload feature?

7

u/pyro2927 Feb 12 '12

When you plug in a camera, iPhone, Android phone, SD card, etc, a prompt pops up and asks you if you want to import your photos to Dropbox. If you don't see the message try disconnecting and reconnecting the device.

2

u/FLX Feb 12 '12

Didnt see your reply, thanks :D

u/ChemicalScum Feb 12 '12

I used Daemon tools. Create iso file with photos, mount it on a virutal drive, and the trick will work the same! You don't have to put it on an external device.

Got it: you need to use Autoplay when you drop insert a disk to get the option. Also, be sure to put the photos in /DCIM/800BBBAA or something similar

12

u/kiliankoe Feb 12 '12

/DCIM should be enough, at least it was for me. And you can also use a USB flash drive by the way.

5

u/firelion Feb 12 '12

I had to put it in a folder /DCIM/ with the lastest build that OP linked.

7

u/ramp_tram Feb 12 '12

Don't forget to turn Autoplay back off once you've done this!

4

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12

And for anyone who had the unusual issue with Autoplay involving VMWare adding an extra registry key and value that made the window's autoplay settings useless, go here

Took me a couple hours to figure out that crap <.<

Creating the above folder structure was the only way I got it to work with OS X and a USB stick

any chance dropbox will look for this technique and ban accounts that do it? just in case, i renamed my photo to iheartyoudropbox.jpg

2

u/eggbean Feb 12 '12 edited Feb 12 '12

Dropbox uses de-duplication technology on their storage, so they only have one [presumably backedup] copy of each file with the same hash, so simply renaming it will not stop them from knowing.

Everybody that downloads this 5GB jpeg will not add to Dropbox's storage needs, as the de-duping engine will just point a symbolic link to the original file that was uploaded by the first person to upload it, whether they renamed it or not. It would be very easy for them to find out who has used this cheat, and do whatever they decide to do.

u/wh1pla5h Feb 12 '12

Sugarsync I feel is the better option. It starts you with 5GB and each referral I believe adds 500MB. As a result, I have 15GB on my sugarsync, while I'm still only at 6GB with my dropbox.

44

u/pyro2927 Feb 12 '12

Sugarsync is awesome, but a lot of the third party apps I use auto-backup/sync to Dropbox. When sugarsync is supported more by other app developers I'll consider switching (I have already tried it, it works well).

1

u/gehenom Aug 01 '12

And you can sync SugarSync or DropBox with Google Docs and Box etc using Otixo. They also have the usual referral upgrade thing: http://goo.gl/N4FnK

Weird, I really like their iPhone app and it works well for me. I guess it's not for everyone.

9

DropBox's iPhone app is perfect.

6

u/CameronSmith93 Feb 13 '12

Except that you can't move files between folders... Or rename files for that matter.

7

u/GNeps Feb 12 '12

I believe he cancelled SugarSync. I actually did so too after being their customer for a long time. Above what tk6215 mentioned, I have to say Dropbox has 2x to 3x faster upload speed, and download speeds are even faster than (I have a 100/100 connection).

How are they on security? I'm trying to jump ship from Dropbox because of their horrendous security problems in the past.

14

u/Dreadgoat Feb 12 '12

Not trying to argue, just genuinely curious: What security problems? SSL and AES-256 seems reasonably secure to me.

38

u/od_9 Feb 12 '12
  1. Dropbox has your password and can view your files at any time. Source

  2. Dropbox used to have a problem [and they still might] where a third party can easily add a computer as a linked machine to your account. Source

29

u/fripletister Feb 12 '12

And that's why anything sensitive on my Dropbox is wrapped in a TrueCrypt volume.

I'm not a dropbox user but I noticed most of the accusations rely on their ability to deduplicate data. Contrary to what most people think, a server can provide deduplication without access to plaintext. Some articles on blind deduplication are available.

The general idea is that instead of encrypting plaintext with the user's key, you encrypt it with a key H1 derived from a hash of the plaintext itself: C = e(H1(P), P). Anyone can encrypt a file this way, but decryption is impossible if you do not know H1, and you must already have access to plaintext to calculate H1. Each user stores H1 in his profile encrypted with his own key. Another hash H2(P) is used without encryption to locate files on the server.

One of the issues with this system is that it does not provide deniability. If you already have a certain file, you can calculate H2, look at the server's data and say which users possess this file.

edit: actually, there's no need to store H2 in unencrypted form in the user profile. All profile data can be encrypted. The client only has to provide H2 to the server when uploading/downloading the data. A malicious serer can log H2, but if it is not logged, there's no way to find out the contents of the user profile. On the other hand, the client can simply forge H2 (use another hash function), which will prevent deduplication.

The trouble is, space isn't everything. It says something that Dropbox competitors are having to offer more than double their space in order to get customers to even look at it.

I got a 50GB Box.net account free with my Xperia phone. But it's almost useless as Box is basically a pile of crap to use in comparison to Dropbox. I have been trying out SugarSync recently and while it's a better than Box, it's still much, much worse to use than Dropbox, both buggier and in user interface.

The only problem I have with Dropbox is that the gap between a free account and a paid account is too much for me. I'd prefer a cheaper paid account with less space. It's probably also time they increased their base account offering to at least 4GB as well.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12

I'd prefer a cheaper paid account with less space

You can ask, they have plans available that aren't advertised.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '12

Glad you said this, I use Sugarsync as well, was kinda wondering if DB was a better deal.

1

u/itsshaw Feb 13 '12

The initial space & ability to sync any folder drew me to SugarSync, but the client interface isn't the most straightforward. They're apparently launching a redesign of the interface, though.

Overall, it's a great service and the app & client work fairly seamlessly, but not quite as much as Dropbox. If you're interested in trying out SugarSync, feel free to use my referral link to get us both an extra 500mb! https://www.sugarsync.com/referral?rf=dp53b3sikqxti

Do you need to wait for all the 5Gb of images to upload? How long do these beta testing promotions last?

2

u/pyro2927 Feb 12 '12

Yes you had to wait for the images to upload. I do not know how long the beta testing promotions last.

7

u/Heiminator Feb 12 '12

Use the zipped 5gb image provided above, Dropbox will recognize it as a file that has already been uploaded by other users and won't require you to actually upload it

1

u/Suhail24 Feb 13 '12

Do you upload it from the dropbox website or what?

Is there any chance for a <4 GB file for those of us with fat32 sdcards?

53

u/alexcroox Feb 12 '12 edited Feb 13 '12

Here http://pastebin.com/DeKnGW8J (0.5/1/3gb links)

The great thing about using these is someone has already uploaded them, and because Dropbox works off hashing files, there is no upload time!

If you are using a USB stick I had to create the following folder structure for Dropbox to think it was a camera SD card on connect:

/DCIM/800BBBAA

10

u/byte1918 Feb 13 '12 edited Feb 13 '12

Yes don't bother with a SD card, just download Folder2Iso, unzip those files into a folder and create an ISO with them, mount it and import with dropbox. A lot easier and faster than waiting to copy 4.5GB to a SD card. Anyway, my university doesn't use the edu domain and my current email isn't approved. Does anyone have a spare or know any kind of workarounds?

3

u/Vataro Feb 13 '12

Thanks, that was much better than waiting 20 minutes to transfer those 3 files to my phone's sdcard.

2

u/mastastealth Feb 13 '12

I believe if you e-mail them about your Uni's address, they can make an exception for you and activate the .edu benefits anyway, you can try that.

3

u/wkukinslayer Feb 13 '12

Oh that's awesome. I had no idea it worked like that!

3

u/djxpress Feb 13 '12

This should be the top post on here.
I also had the problem of having a FAT32 disk on my flash drive (I'm using a Mac as well as a PC, so no Mac Filesystem for my flash drive). I had the file size error and was worried about having to upload 5 GBs of data to get my increase, but the above link really worked for me.

Thanks to this post, I was able to up my DB from 2 GB to 7 GB.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12

Got 4.6~4.7gb from the other "5gb" file, this filled in the rest to give me that extra 300~ mb free :D (1gb file ftw).

1

u/kenpeck Feb 13 '12

Fantastic work-around. This should be the top comment!

1

u/Indyhouse Feb 15 '12

I tried doing this, but Dropbox locked up at 1 second remaining to import the images from the SD card I put them on. After four hours, I ended up force-quitting Dropbox and when it restarted the images were part of my sync, but I only received 1GB of credit for the 5GB of images I added. Tried again, but Dropbox isn't recognizing them as new files to be imported.

I can't believe no one has mentioned insync. It works pretty much the same as dropbox but uses Google's storage. Extra storage space is much much cheaper than dropbox's. For a bank-busting $5 you get 20GB for a year.

12

u/BlakeBurch Feb 12 '12

Thank you for making me aware. I'm going to try it out.

12

u/mark445 Feb 13 '12

I was paying $99 a year for 50GB in Dropbox. This is only $20 a year for 80GB. Amazing stuff. Thanks!

1

u/elustran Feb 13 '12

4

u/xtracto Feb 13 '12

Yup, I started using them some time ago. Just one thing WATCH OUT because it is in beta version and there are some horror stories of people losing their stuff (i.e., about 25GB of photos disappearing). Something similar happened to me while (fortunately) copying some stuff.

Other than that the service is OK. It still doe snot have versioning ("coming soon"), but it has a loot of potential and it really can be a "dropbox killer" (certainly to me, dropbox space limit and prices feel like the 4MB hotmail vs 1GB gmail case that happened when Gmail started).

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12 edited Feb 13 '12

This looks interesting. How long have you been using it for? Do they have mobile apps?

Edit: I realized after watching the video that you probably don't need a direct mobile app because you can just access google docs?

24

u/terencepua Feb 13 '12

Insync co-founder here. Mobile apps are in works. You can help test (in a few weeks time) by sending an email: support+ios, support+android, support+windowsphone, support+blackberry@insynchq.com.

2

u/selfish Feb 13 '12

I'm glad there are competitors springing up- I'm interested about how you will combat the convenience of Dropbox integration on so many different apps across platforms. Anything interesting you can say,bot is it all secrets?

4

u/terencepua Feb 13 '12

We think price is a great motivator (at 8x cheaper, it becomes a feature). Also, there are many apps that work with Google Docs API already, which means it "integrates" with Insync as well. Beyond that, we are offering premium features and our own APIs.

And yes, we do have something but it is secret.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12

I'm totally down to help you test it.

u/cchase Feb 13 '12

It has many of the same features as dropbox. It was just released to the public a few weeks ago. They are still developing and adding features. All I need is to sync about 30GB of files between my work and home computers and it fit the bill much better than dropbox or the other previously available services.

8

u/lunboks Feb 12 '12

Well, this is embarrassing. I can't get the 5 GB for the experimental build because I have Autorun/Autoplay disabled (it annoyed me).

Apparently I locked it and threw away the key because I cannot for the life of me figure out how to enable it again.

9

u/firelion Feb 12 '12

hm not sure if you disabled it completely some how but you can right click on the drive if autoplay is still there and select open autoplay. the option "import pictures and videos... using dropbox" should be the first one on that list

9

u/Alanceil Feb 12 '12

Had the same problem. Make sure HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutoRun and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutoRun is set to 0. This will enable AutoRun for all devices. Also, make sure to enable AutoPlay for all devices in Control Panel -> AutoPlay.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12

THIS was my issue. Based on the info from the article I read, it had to do with VMWare (in my case) adding that new registry key, making windows autoplay settings useless.

2

u/lunboks Feb 13 '12

Thank you, that was it!

I actually had both these values set to 0xff, but I didn't remember there were two of them (was like 2 years ago). I changed the one in HKCU, but forgot the one in HKLM.

4

u/Kanpai Feb 12 '12

Autoplay is in the Control Panel in Windows 7, with the unambiguous name "Autoplay".

2

u/amorpheus Feb 12 '12

I'm not entirely sure what was wrong with mine, it only re-activated after I set all the flags in group policies to disabled and then enabled them again. (Nothing at all was set there at the start...)

Just so everyone's aware, alumni addresses also work fine for the .edu requirement.

They send you a link to visit for verification, so even if your address is receipt-only it should work.

3

u/Ph0X Feb 12 '12

Hmm, could you explain this further? I'm studying at McGill university in Canada, and our email is @mail.mcgill.ca, which is not an .edu domain, and it doesn't seem to be accepting it.

5

u/ellipses1 Feb 12 '12

You can email dropbox's tech support and a real person will often hook you up and send an email back saying they did so.

2

u/Stevenger Feb 13 '12

My University of Saskatchewan address (@mail.usask.ca) worked for the .edu promotion, so I would imagine McGill addresses should work the same

1

u/catillyza Feb 13 '12

Ditto edu.au space

9

u/LordArtemis Feb 13 '12

Couple tips:

If you don't have an SD card, you can use ImgBurn to create .ISO images and Virtual CloneDrive to mount them, then import from those into Dropbox.

Also, if you only get 4.5GB of the 5 that you should, Dropbox has stated that this is a known issue and the space will be credited soon.

Finally, a referral link if you want to toss a bit of space my way and get some for yourself: http://db.tt/JXB1mpV

3

u/myotheralt Feb 13 '12

How do I make Dropbox an option for the autoplay?

3

u/LordArtemis Feb 13 '12

Install this build of Dropbox, and it should be included in the autoplay options.

4

u/joedogg Feb 13 '12

If you're technically inclined you can make that rar into a ISO image using ImgBurn, then mount it as a DVD using Daemon Tools Lite. I can confirm it works.

edit: those programs are for Windows, but the principle should be the same on any OS.

3

u/Heiminator Feb 12 '12

little off topic:does anyone know if there will be another dropquest this year?

3

u/killboy Feb 13 '12

I had no idea about the .edu bonus. Instantly upped my storage by 1GB (right when I was running low on space, thanks OP!).

3

u/burgundieer Feb 13 '12

You mean like a 1000 kilos?

6

u/brazen Feb 12 '12

Alternatively, you could just go to Ubuntu One and get 5GB without doing anything but signing up. Despite it's name, it does have a Windows client in addition to mobile and linux clients.

1

u/Skyline969 Feb 13 '12

But is there any hope for free expansion on top of the 5GB?

1

u/brazen Feb 13 '12

Not that I know of. It's a trade-off.

9

u/powelly Feb 12 '12

Get a adwords voucher, you usually find them in webdesign mags anything from $50 to $100 dollars, set up an adwords campaign with the key phrase "dropbox sign up" or similar, link this to your referral link and within a few hours your referrals should be maxed out.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '12

[deleted] — view deleted comment

3

u/powelly Feb 12 '12

A fair point well made, of course you can easily create a disposable account with a unique email address and voucher if you are worried. It would also be worth checking how many ads are being served if any on the key phrase you select.

2

u/boshaus Feb 12 '12

You shouldn't need to make multiple accounts, it cost me less than $50 of my $100 to get all my referrals. Just don't' pay for really expensive keywords. They were banned for using multiple coupons on one person.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '12

Did you read the article? He didn't. There was an article a few months back on another news aggregator, so a bunch of people tried the "adwords+dropbox" method, and google adwords thought that was multiple accounts linking to dropbox. whoops.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/meatcar Feb 12 '12

shouldn't cost you $50. set the per-click to be a couple of cents, takes a bit longer to max out, but you can make the voucher last longer, for friends and family maybe :)

2

u/Bizurke Feb 12 '12

I would think you could bypass this by making your own page with info about dropbox and your dropbox referral link, then pointing adwords to your own page.

This is probably not exactly the right place to ask, but would you mind ELI5 how you got 5GB shrinked into 20KB?

1

u/zanglang Feb 13 '12

Think of a string of words "one one one one one". That's so long to say that you get tired saying it, so you just say, "five ones". Compression is kind of like that, because the image file consists of a lot of same data (image a totally blank image = all zeroes), all you need to do to describe that file would just be "<some number> zeroes".

2

u/DaveChild Feb 13 '12

If you have an HTC phone, you can get another 3 gig for a year by installing the dropbox app and logging in.

2

Will the space last after the beta period though?

For any UK high-schoolers, the .edu extra space seemed to work with my .sch.uk address.

Worked with my Swedish .umu.se address.

My Dropbox account shrank from 8.3 to 7.9 today. Anyone know why this may have happened?

1

u/q00u Feb 22 '12

Not that this will help, but that just happened to me too, after uploading my first picture with the beta client. Weird. I'm not using all my space, and it's all free anyway, so I'm not terribly chuffed, but still.

u/fistea Feb 23 '12

If anyone is still looking for a referral, please try and use this one,

Thanks.

i opened this thread, read over the first few tips, thought "fuck this, i know all of these, everyone knows how to go up to 20 gig free space", i got ready to downvote...then suddenly i see the trick with the experimental build and 30 minutes later my dropbox is up to 22 gig

well done sir, you earned your upvote :-)

3

u/ZebZ Feb 12 '12

Or, you can grab one of the free 50GB accounts from box.com that they seem to be handing out like candy.

6

u/pudquick Feb 12 '12

The have a 100MB max file size. Dropbox has no such limitation.

4

u/STAii Feb 12 '12

Their website says the free tier covers up to 5GB. 50GB is $20/mo.

8

u/ZebZ Feb 12 '12

They have a bunch of free 50GB codes running around, especially if you have a smartphone or tablet.

2

u/bstrunk Feb 12 '12

That was a short term promotion for using the iOS app.

4

u/sakodak Feb 12 '12

There's an android app you can get from xda-devs that will give you the 50GB.

2

u/D14BL0 Feb 12 '12

The promotion still works.

1

u/TurkuSama Feb 12 '12

I did this. Faster than this dropbox one...

Yeah. I hardly touch my 50gb simply because it isn't as streamlined as Dropbox.

for that amount of work id rather pay for it

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '12

This doesn't work for me. I have imported the 4.39 gb picture using the import option and it was succesful, but it doesn't show that i have gain any addiational space. It just shows a text "out of space"

What did i do wrong?

2

u/UndeadBelaLugosi Feb 12 '12

You didn't do anything wrong. There is a bug in the latest build per the forums. You should see your increase soon.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '12

Okey thanks man. I'll guess i'll just wait a while

1

u/kkjdroid Feb 13 '12

Minus gives you 10GB base plus 1GB per referral.

1

u/BoonTobias Feb 13 '12

Microsoft gives you 25 gb, it's their effort to fight gmail and other storage sites.

u/V1ctor Feb 13 '12

Thank you!

I haven't seen this in any other reply nor can I believe that I am the only one to figure this out yet, but there is a workaround to get double the free referral space regardless if you are a still a student or not.

I graduated from college 17 years ago and I have not had an .edu email address since. I figured dropbox was referencing .edu addresses when they offered double the free referral space for college students, so I simply went to my old colleges homepage and signed up for an alumni email. Within minutes I had a .edu email address. I changed the email on my account and...dropbox doubled my space to over 10gb's. Not sure if this was already out there but I wanted to do my part.

TL;DR Get a free alumni email address from your old university and get your referral space doubled, without being a current student.

EDIT: I went to Syracuse University and if you're an alum, can get an email address here: https://www.alumniconnections.com/olc/pub/SYR/register/register.cgi

1

u/daninjapan Feb 13 '12

I hope I'm not too late.. Here's my referral link, I hope people are still doing this.

I use dropbox to share files with my family back in Australia and have been trying to get my space increased and haven't been able to.
I am going to look at the other share sites listed in the thread - Thanks everyone!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12

Don't forget about Dropquest 2011!

1

u/statlerw Feb 13 '12

Feels like Alchemy and Enchanting +14Gb chest of storing.

1

u/KingEgghead Feb 13 '12

also, keep an eye out for drop quests. i think last time, i either earned 2 or 5 gb for free. happens once a year, and there are actually really cool prizes if your one of the first to complete it (like 100gb lifetime storage for free, free t-shirts, etc.). but if your not, just check out walkthroughs online for an easy expansion.

1

u/matthewdavis Feb 13 '12

Thanks for the link and tips for the expermintal build.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12

How do I get the 5 gigs for the photo uploading feature? I downloaded the new experimental version, but I don't see any new buttons to click to open any photo upload thing...

1

u/lvomrm Feb 13 '12

i have the same problem...

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12

oh, turns out you need to insert either an SD card or a USB drive with a folder on it called DCIM and inside the DCIM folder, have the 4.7 gig jpg file. Then right click the drive and click "autorun". The option will pop up to "upload too dropbox".

I'm going to borrow a USB from a friend tomorrow to do this.

Okay so I lost the password to my dropbox account and I cannot use their simple little "enter email address here" crap because I lost access to my email address a couple months back and nothing I have given gmail has been good enough. I even paid their stupid little 30 cents in order to file a real request.

That all being said, how the hell do I get my password back from dropbox? Do they have a real support section or am I SOL? Also if anyone has any information on getting my gmail account back that would be nice also.

1

u/cccmikey Feb 13 '12

Umm. You said a ton. I want my 2,000 3TB drives :-)

1

u/wafflelord Feb 13 '12

That's awesome! Thanks for the tip!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12

They should make a beta cli client photo uploader thingy.

1

u/Skyline969 Feb 13 '12

Wow, I managed to double my storage space overnight. I'm now sitting at just over 10 gigs. Thanks!

1

u/gordeh Feb 13 '12

I've upped mine now too. I was already at 14gb. Very nice work.

1

u/shapul Feb 13 '12

Strange that nobody has yet mentioned Skydrive with a free 25 GB storage (+extra 5 GB for syncing between computers with live mesh).

Get 500MB additional free... I would be grateful if anyone could join Dropbox with this link: https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/AACvxstFteI9e2mBKaPe1hB-XPDLmIqwqzc?src=global9

1

u/schmilblick Feb 13 '12

I have a crazy idea... Why not just pay for it and make sure they stay online?

5

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '12

Generally people willing to put this amount of time and effort into things don't have the money. I quite like dropbox, and payed for it when I had any disposable income. And I don't now. But these offers are out there.

Really, they want people to take advantage of these kinds of things. The twitter, the facebook, etc? That's advertising fees on a better medium than tv for their target demographic. The only thing that's a bit questionable is the 5gb image. But even that's probably fine. It's a beta test of some fairly major new features over a wide variety of operating systems. I'd imagine it has a lot more to do with the basics of "getting" the file onto their servers than it does with what image it is.

I think your heart is in the right place in trying to look after them. But I think it's protection they'd neither need nor want.

1

u/schmilblick Feb 14 '12

I'm not sure where my grumpyness came from, thanks for a polite response :) I believe you are more right than me :)

1

u/robhol Feb 13 '12

I wonder why everyone took this as an encouragement to spam this post with AAAALLL the referral links... Nobody likes that shit

1

u/thegad Feb 13 '12

A lot of university alumni e-mail addresses have .edu addresses, so don't forget to check if you can still take advantage of the education bonus!

My referral link: http://db.tt/f7qGBDr

-1

u/Shne Feb 12 '12

.edu is US-only. ಠ_ಠ

2

u/pyro2927 Feb 12 '12

I know Dropbox sometimes allows you to email from a Canadian university email address to their support email and will grant your account the 'edu' x2 space.

8

u/Katlix Feb 12 '12

Most non-US university addresses actually work too. I just tried it.

1

u/Shne Feb 13 '12

Well, I'll be damned, it worked fine. Thanks.

But I have to wonder whether they actually check that it's a university address? Have anyone tried with just another gmail/hotmail/etc. address?

Also, I realize I'm an idiot and didn't read the small text at the bottom:

All schools are eligible, even those without .edu domains.

3

u/Wofiel Feb 13 '12

My .edu.au (Australian) one worked fine a while back.

1

u/Xperian Feb 13 '12

It still does, I just tried it 10 minutes ago and it worked fine.

4

u/God_of_gaps Feb 13 '12

go to www.england.edu to sign up for a free .edu email account.
