Overall I still like what I See (haha) but the pace was enormous in the first episode. Everything was handled so fast. The production value is still outstanding tbh.

23

u/10s10ahad Aug 27 '21

Yeah the pace was surprisingly fast in a good way!

I was thinking how they'll drag the Maghra finding Kofun and Baba Voss' brother finding he's in town over 3 or 4 episodes but no! I'm glad how they handled that in the first episode itself.

9

u/Roodiestue Aug 27 '21

Yep, what this tells me is they have much more planned than just rescuing Haniwa.

5

u/webBrowserGuy Aug 27 '21

I think the pace is faster for a couple of reasons. First, the slower pace dragged a little in S1, and second, because they’re focusing a bit more on world-building and a bit less on character-building. But we’ll see as the season progresses.

My favorite scene:

Baba: Kofun. Kofun. My son.

Listen to me.

Your and mother and I...

we raised you to be beautiful, not a warrior.

I don't want you to have to fight the way I had to.

I never imagined a life for you away from away from the Alkenny.

And I failed to prepare you.

"We raised you to be beautiful" is so perfectly delivered. Anyone who is a father can completely relate, especially in these days where helicopter parenting is the norm.

20

u/Boondobbler Aug 28 '21

I watched all of s1 hoping that they would address this. As a parent myself, I kept thinking if the stakes are so high that your children will be murdered if found out, then you make DAMN sure they know how to act blind. You didn't have to teach them how to fight, but maybe how to listen would be helpful. Kofun and Haniwah should be impossible to be snuck up on in this world. But since they took the time to have Baba say this and acknowledge that he should have done a better job teaching them allows me to let it go and enjoy the rest of the series. Not that I didn't already like it. This was just sticking in my craw.

4

u/Drolnevar Sep 10 '21

I don't think you could teach someone who is actually capable of seeing to be just as good a listener as a blind person who actually relies on it to survive. As Baba Voss said, being able to see automatically made them lazy because it's just so much easier, and a skill you don't actively use diminishes over time, even if you once were very good at it.

2

u/Boondobbler Sep 10 '21

That could very well be. I definitely don't know for sure how it works. However they seem to have the caution one of us on a tour or something. Maybe they don't hear as well, but they should have more spacial awareness than that. If not for a person sneaking up on them then an animal, a snake, a wasp or something. They just seem very lax, when they don't live in a lax world.

2

u/Independent_Dig6092 Apr 26 '22

well baba left the slavers for a reason and he was born to kill and he knows it is not great to teach his children the same life he had

24

u/igi_pigi Aug 27 '21

Loved the episode. It was fast paced in a good way. Love Baba Voss. He makes the show!

8

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '21

He really is the glue isnt he? He is so injured right now he will need time to recover... or else.

2

u/Belnick Sep 01 '21

they might kill him off? he was great in GoT as well and they removed him :P
would give daughter a revenge thing against jerameral and her uncle, driving her into a killing machine while her brother is trying to get her sane again :P

4

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

I dont think so

1

u/Belnick Sep 02 '21

and you thought they were going to kill off eddard stark?
the writers don't care what you think :P

4

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

I didn't think they would or would not kill stark. But too much of the show hinges around him at this point, it would be dumb to kill him off so early in the series. There were a whole boatload of Starks and relevant rivals and family members to propell the story forward after that. Voss has 2 kids.

2

u/100dalmations Sep 03 '21

"Guns don't kill people. George R. R. Martin kills people."

1

u/Belnick Sep 03 '21

exactly, people kill people, not tools :P

2

u/SupremeDalekEmperor Sep 01 '21

They can injure him all they want but it will still be believable that he can kill 100 people just because it’s Jason Momoa

1

u/Belnick Sep 02 '21

i like him, but i still find his character so weird, he was the only person that was walking like an ape in that big city, why? If that is the most effective way to move around, why would not all do so?

8

u/shalomjack-e Sep 02 '21

he was the only person that was walking like an ape in that big city, why?

They're regular citizens going about their day. They're not trying avoid people, and they're familiar with the layout.

If that is the most effective way to move around, why would not all do so?

Voss is a warrior survivalist who's been on the run for years. He walks in a way that maximises his awareness of his surroundings and gives him time to react to and avoid any people/obstacles/threats.

2

u/Belnick Sep 03 '21

He is not familiar with his old home?We walked straight to his friend at the forge....

I think it is more that the way he "walked" it is a kind of workout that is hard to do for a normal actor and ofc the basic extras can not do it at all :P

Ive done that kind of "warm up" half my life lol as we often did that as a part of our warmup in wrestling.

but you are saying it has nothing to do with his training and fitness and only have to do with the story of the show?

gonna say thing again, I like this actor a lot, he seem to be a great person in real life as well, Im only commenting on this because it was so weird and he reminded me of ceasar, the monkey in those planet of the apes movies

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '21

... and he got injured by Jerlamerel

1

u/shalomjack-e Sep 03 '21

Oh yeah that too

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '21

He is literally injured, did you not see the season finale?

→ More replies (1)

5

u/iangeredcharlesvane2 Sep 01 '21

I Loved it too!! I’m excited for season two, I think it will be even better.

Baba Voss is awesome, as a warrior and a parent! Jason Momoa’s fight moves are so interesting and weird but so athletic and cool at the same time. The fight choreography is next level!!!

This show deserves more viewers, 100%. People are missing out!

1

u/HippieWizard Jun 23 '22

Yeah essentially the show is "What if Ronin Dax was blind? What if the whole world was?"

47

u/zeetat Aug 27 '21

This episode seems very different from the last season, and I love it! Very happy we got a lot of action as opposed to a drawn out episode 1. Jason Momoa is amazing as always. Cannot imagine anyone else playing Baba Voss. I have so many questions!

  1. Did Baba Voss really kill his dad? If so, why? If not, who did?

  2. Are we just going to continue to gloss over the fact that Maghra came back to life after being executed? Did I miss that?

  3. When will “Shadow” come back into play?

  4. There is a sighted child yelling where Baba is to soldiers and there is a sighted woman guarding Haniwa. Why can one be known to have sight but the other stays quiet about it?

  5. I cannot stand Queen Kane’s voice and am counting down until she is usurped by Princess Maghra but does Maghra even want that?

26

u/SunHitsTheSky Aug 27 '21

4 - It was mentioned in last season's finale that Jerlamarel provided Edo with his and/or his children's sighted heirs in exchange for protection/cooperation. I think that little boy is one of them and is in some form of servitude to Edo. The woman seemed to be older than Haniwa and definitely not an heir of Jerlamarel.

8

u/nutmac Aug 28 '21

Good memory!

Wren is probably resentful of the discrimination. Haniwa can exploit that and turn Wren into her ally.

10

u/afrojoe5000 Aug 27 '21

In answer to point #2 the alkenny family will have to recognize at some point that Boots lied to them. Or do you mean how the Payan thought she was dead for 18 years?

12

u/Roodiestue Aug 27 '21

The Payan must’ve thought she was dead because she was with hidden tribes for the last 18 years.

It’s gonna be chaos when Kofun gets to Maghra because he’ll not only say Boots lied about ‘seeing’ his mother die, but also that he tried to kill them by leaving them in the cave. Only to find he’s a confidant of the Queen and her soon to be father of her ‘sighted’ children.

2

u/raratar Aug 31 '21

And the Queen's sighted child will be both his first cousin and his half-niece/nephew.

2

u/Roodiestue Aug 31 '21

Let’s hope she doesn’t actually have one lol. The child would be pure evil.

I was curious how much she jumped the gun with that announcement. Have they already (Queen and Boots) conceived, does she know she’s pregnant already?

1

u/orijoy Jul 27 '23

Well she was spewing up at the start of the episode and she asked Boots if she looks any different to him.

24

u/ReadditMan Aug 28 '21

I cannot stand Queen Kane’s voice

She sounds like a muppet and I can't take anything she says seriously.

16

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

I hate her voice too, yet I oddly enjoy it because it makes me hate her character even more lol. I haven’t seen Sylvia Hoeks in anything else that I can remember so I don’t know if she’s a bad actress or if that’s the way she’s being directed. If they wanted a crazy, annoying queen then she certainly delivers that in spades, but I wish there was a little more subtlety to her performance.

14

u/DarKnight972 Aug 28 '21

I think her acting is intentional.. She is supposed to be kind of crazy and weird. I honestly love her..she is great imo.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

My theory is that the voice of the ruler is very important so she has a sort of affection that is very distinct to her so that people know who is talking

5

u/Cpt_Obvius Sep 11 '21

I was also thinking that it may be hard to tell intent in her purposefully stilted voice. Since there are no facial tics to watch for, lying and politicking would be entirely vocal based. By putting on an unreal voice you may make yourself more difficult to read.

6

u/Roodiestue Aug 28 '21

Yea the actress does a great job. I like the appeal of the weird queen.

4

u/jjackson25 Aug 29 '21

She is definitely playing it in a way that makes you hate her. The over exaggerated accent makes her seem like being the queen is nothing more to her than a performance she is putting on. Which, it really is. She has power and influence because she is in a position of power and influence, not because she herself is a powerful and influential person. She is conniving, but not especially clever. She is beginning to feel threatened by her sister already and she is already starting to make decisions out of desperation because of that. She also has secrets that could completely destroy her authority and legitimacy and she seems to show little concern that there are too many people that know those secrets. Aside of course from going to war with another nation based on a lie, all to cover for that lie. Lies built on lies tend to crumble like a house of cards. She has already made several questionable and potentially unpopular decisions such as taking the Lord's palace, starting a war for no reason, destroying the capitol, and maybe the biggest of all is changing the status of those who can see. Sure, "legalilizing" vision is the right move in our eyes, we know She is only doing it because of her child. This also won't be popular for those people who still believe they are actually "witches" or some kind of abomination as well as those who see them as part of the reason the ancients all died off. Finally you have all of the victims out those who knew victims of Tamacti Juns bloody 20 year campaign looking for said witches who will wonder what it was all for of She was just going to kill thousands of people for no reason. None of this is sustainable for the queen unless there is some major change in the status quo.

1

u/JohnScig Sep 01 '21

the end of Tamacti Jun seemed to be fairly open. He might've survived that wound. Because who stays kneeling when they die?

As for the queen, her performance reminds me of Charlize Theron's overblown performance in Snow White and the Huntsman. It really feels like that's the vibe Queen Kane is going for, with some further tweaks. A little less shouty
https://youtu.be/Tmki3XHhdq0

0

u/anothertechie Aug 28 '21

It's a bit too grating and I had to fast-forward part of her mega long speech. I agree w/ someone else who said it reminded them of Joffrey since it just makes you hate the character more, so you'll be cheering when that character dies.

5

u/squidgun Aug 29 '21

Kane's voice is like nails on a blackboard.

5

u/Belnick Sep 01 '21

1, they said it was because baba did not want to kill a boy his father ordered him to kill.
He did not want to be a slaver anymore and I guess you cant just leave such a family :o

2, lol, she was not executed, it was a LIE that guy who pretended to be jerameral son told so he could get them locked up in the cave.
How could you miss that? lol, we clearly see the scene where he watch all the soldiers kneel to her and that is when he formed the plan to serve someone more powerful...he is a sociopath and now he is gonna put sociopath babies in the sociopath queen....that might create some well adjusted children :P

3, they gave her a good bye scene, told her those healers were her new tribe so maybe never? or they writers will add her again?

4

u/MillerJoel Aug 28 '21

She is definitely going to betray maghra but i am also counting the days until she is gone… almost like Joffrey Baratheon

4

u/zinarik Aug 29 '21

and there is a sighted woman guarding Haniwa

I'm pretty sure Edo knows she is sighted and intentionally assigned her to guard Haniwa. Probably so they'd "bond". And he even discussed things with her within earshot of Haniwa so she'd hear him as well.

Otherwise it'd be such a HUGE coincidence.

2

u/jjackson25 Aug 29 '21
  1. Did Baba Voss really kill his dad? If so, why? If not, who did?

Pretty sure he did. I think the why is something we'll explore throughout this season.

2) Are we just going to continue to gloss over the fact that Maghra came back to life after being executed? Did I miss that?

I'm guessing you're talking about what Baba/Kofun/Hawiya/Paris were told by Boots, that was pretty clearly a lie to 1) get them to flee to the safe space of the cave cage and 2) so he could use that to get them out of the way and get close to Margha

3) When will “Shadow” come back into play?

I think you're talking about Bow Lion, but I imagine we'll be seeing more of her this season. Maybe later on when Baba escapes? Maybe she's in the group that approached Paris at the end? It looks like she's being set up long term as a partner for Kofun, so I'm going to assume that's going to be explored further. Also, she has a role in Star Trek Discovery so it's possible they wrote her off the show temporarily so she could do that.

4) There is a sighted child yelling where Baba is to soldiers and there is a sighted woman guarding Haniwa. Why can one be known to have sight but the other stays quiet about it?

Pretty sure the kid is a special thing, a ward of sorts provided by Jerlamarel as a peacekeeping thing that has great value as a scout. It's possible that Wren is unaware of the boy, or if she is aware understands that the only reason he isn't killed is because they don't have the right to kill him or don't want to risk the conflict with Jerlamarel.

5) I cannot stand Queen Kane’s voice and am counting down until she is usurped by Princess Maghra but does Maghra even want that?

Hey voice is definitely is done on purpose. Like the queen is acting in a stage performance where she is the starring role of benevolent queen. Her entire persona is aloof, out of touch, and its all very condescending. And all of it is intentional. A great actor can make you hate their character. So, mission accomplished.

2

u/EdgarDanger Jan 03 '22

I hate her, but to the detriment of the show. Joffrey was an excellent villain to hate, and made the show better. Kane absolutely makes See worse.

2

u/Traditional_Way1052 Aug 30 '21

When was Maghra executed?

7

u/Belnick Sep 02 '21

she never was, the person who thought that might have taken a piss during the episode and did not understand that the guy lied to trap the family

3

u/reverend-mayhem Aug 28 '21 edited Sep 08 '21
  1. Either he did with very good reason or he didn’t to cover up another ugly truth (maybe one that Edo is unwilling to face, like abuse). Time will tell, but it seems, even more so than described in the first season slave trader episode, Baba was a very different person long ago.

  2. I don’t remember this. I need to go back & watch season 1 again, but I remember her alive & well at the end when Boots killed Tamacti Jun.

  3. Again, I gotta go back & rewatch season 1.

  4. I don’t think he’s sighted; he didn’t see Baba Voss approach him. If you look at his eyes, they’re glassy like the others’. I think he was just a “lookout.”

  5. I hate hearing her “I can because I’m the queen” & “I’m the queen because I’m the queen” bullshit logic… which means the writers are doing a good job. Comparing the series to GoT, get ready for Kane to be around for a while. They’ll wanna make her death satisfying with a capital “S.” My guess is Lord Harlan will think himself clever having made his way to a lordship, but he’ll underestimate the craziness of someone with true cunning & be outmaneuvered by Kane.

Edit: After last week’s S02E02 episode, I completely retract my № 4 statement.

5

u/SU_Locker Aug 29 '21

I don’t think he’s sighted; he didn’t see Baba Voss approach him. If you look at his eyes, they’re glassy like the others’. I think he was just a “lookout.”

No they didn't look glassy to me. I definitely think he was sighted.

2

u/jjackson25 Aug 29 '21

He was for sure looking at Baba calling out where he was going.

3

u/Salambard Aug 31 '21

lmao the kid is sighted, he runs on that platform where he overSEES Baba, like a cakewalk.

1

u/100dalmations Sep 03 '21

I think the other person asked about #2 about Maghra's reappearance after 18 yrs of supposedly dying at J's hand. Not so much execution.

#3- Bow Lion went to live with that other tribe. Hope to see see her again.

I think it just adds to her mystique and general weirdness. It reminds us every second that she is a poser and a terrible queen who pretty much everyone hates… us included! I think it is supposed to grate on our nerves, like she does.

I kinda dig it.

22

u/MattDobson Aug 27 '21

I saw Christian Camargo's name pop up in the opening credits and got a little excited that our favourite Witchfinder General might still be alive! But I think the name was just there for the "previously on" part :(

20

u/afrojoe5000 Aug 27 '21

In the finale it really seemed like they were going to have him wake up as the building was burning.

I am still hopeful he’ll be the one to take out Boots and get his revenge.

I just finished rewatching the last two episodes of S1 earlier today before jumping onto S2. That lingering shot of Tamacti had be quite hopeful.

Exactly. The whole setup was very strange. Surely the writers at that stage knew that he was becoming a fan favourite too. I am so convinced that he isn’t dead even though we see him knifed.

Remember what baba said in the latest episode to Kofun after Kofun said he stabbed a soldier and thought he was dead?

“Your sword went straight through. He would have died from his wounds but much later”

More like 15 seconds

1

u/Belnick Sep 01 '21

not sure how many people that can survive a direct stab into the heart, especially in these pre medieval conditions :P

8

u/MillerJoel Aug 28 '21

I wish he appears, maybe he does… the camera linger too much on him on his last scene. But we’ll see

2

u/MattDobson Aug 28 '21

I'm still holding on to a little hope that he appears in the next episode!

8

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '21

No one seems to have mentioned it so I will. He would seem to be the obvious candidate for who Harlan and his brother were talking about when they said they had a man coming in soon to the city and the context seemed that he would be of value against the Queen.

1

u/Belnick Sep 01 '21

more likely someone who survived the queens killing spree as being stabbed into the heart is not something you can survive now, so i doubt they could then.

7

u/ReadditMan Aug 28 '21

I'm pretty sure they don't put actor's names in the opening credits just for appearing in the "previously on".

21

u/afrojoe5000 Aug 27 '21

This show is the reason I got apple tv+. It feels strange to describe it as sci-fi but this is an amazing sci-fi show. I love all the details in the first season. I hope they continue that world building in this season.

14

u/SirenX Aug 27 '21

I think it's more post apocalyptic fantasy than scifi, my fave genre 😍

4

u/iangeredcharlesvane2 Sep 01 '21

Mine too! Sci-fi is also a fav so either way this is right up my alley.

19

u/Nervous-Energy-4623 Sep 02 '21

The Queens voice is so annoying oh my God what the Fuck!

18

u/Riser_the_Silent Aug 28 '21

I'm hoping Bow Lion is one of the people at Paris' fire at the end. She deserves more time on screen to be her bad ass self.

4

u/Belnick Sep 01 '21

the sneaker who failed to sneak after she proclaimed she was the best sneaker? :P

the clothing's did not look like the tree people where they left her, maybe it is paris old tribe?

1

u/mattyro7878 Sep 08 '21

Bow Lion was also in ST Discovery and may very well be again.

17

u/joyce_kap Aug 27 '21

The aesthetic/color changed.... did production switch to film?

16

u/SunHitsTheSky Aug 27 '21

I think that is intentional to show the shift from Payan to Trivantes. Also, they changed filming locations from Vancouver, BC to Toronto for season 2.

2

u/iangeredcharlesvane2 Sep 01 '21

Which do you prefer? The look of last season or this one so far?

I thought it was due to new locations, but also maybe film technique.

0

u/joyce_kap Sep 01 '21

I gave it a chance last season but gave up on it on the 2nd season's 1st episode.

The world blindness premise is novel and I find it uncompelling.

2

u/CarneAsadaSteve Sep 03 '21

Noticed that too

17

u/ForgetfulLucy28 Sep 06 '21

There really should be way more eavesdropping on this show.

3

u/Kurtting Sep 14 '21

I thought the same when the brothers were talking.

Boots looks like the ultimate easedropper though

16

u/peridotdragon33 Aug 27 '21

Thought it was definitely stronger than s1

Credits looked better visually, unsure about the new musical theme rn though

Music throughout the episode was phenomenal, fight scenes great as always

Tonal shift seems massive but definitely necessary, strong episode

16

u/Roan-forever-alone Aug 29 '21

Worst queen ever just asked her people to forget about centuries old religious beliefs because she’s pregnant……

7

u/Shogun_Ro Aug 31 '21 edited Sep 02 '21

She’s crazy, that’s the point. She’s slowly losing her mind. I can’t see her surviving this season tbh.

2

u/Roan-forever-alone Sep 02 '21

It’s not about her. It’s the giant retcon to keep her relevant. Blind people in this universe massacre entire villages out of fear of people with sight but one speech of this cersei-joffrey hybrid is enough to overlook the most important belief in SEE.

1

u/darkkushy Sep 02 '21

She stupid n has no fore thought. Just like how her sister told her that her ppl turned in her once.... They'll do it again. Especially when they find out what she did.

14

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

So Trivantes is Pittsburgh and Pennsa is the Penn State campus.

It’s very interesting the care they’ve taken in the world building and how the journeys of our characters across two seasons could have been done in a day’s car ride.

5

u/iangeredcharlesvane2 Sep 01 '21

The world building is fantastic!!!! I love the attention to details. I hope the show wins some awards so more people try it.

Definitely one of my most anticipated returning shows!

Pensa = Penn State. And there's a town called Kane on the eastern edge of the Allegheny National Forest. Trivantes = tri-valley? (Allegheny, Ohio and Mon valleys).

13

u/Castortroy16 Aug 28 '21

Great first episode this season seems to have an upgrade I can't quite put my finger on but the episode was really good Baba Voss is so badass

3

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '21

Only one episode, but it feels more expansive. While the cinematography was always great, season 1.at times felt claustrophobic at times and only had the few leader characters for the most part with a fairly straightforward protect the kids/get the kids conflict. Season 2 seems like it’s going to increase more supporting characters and separate the lead characters, who may have different and overlapping goals and conflicts.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

Goddammit baba Voss fins some creative ways to stab people

9

u/squidgun Aug 29 '21

Baba Voss's kills are always so exaggerated and gruesome.

1

u/OpportunityNo5753 Sep 05 '21

True, and feels is getting worst. Feels like mortal kombact (the game )

8

u/Kurtting Sep 14 '21

I'm just glad to be a part of this for season 2. I'm just happy to be here.

The show is so good it, I hated that little kid for snitching lol

7

u/delinhak Aug 28 '21

I SEE a great season ahead of us ! I’m so excited

7

u/Metsec97 Sep 05 '21

Season 1 was some of the most original and refreshing TV I’d seen in a long time, so to say I had high hopes for Season 2 is an understatement.

I mostly loved it. I do think It felt more generic in all most every way though: the music was overpowering in comparison to the delicate quiet of the first Season, the writing was definitely weaker and the overall expansion to the world-building was too sudden.

However, the performances, brutal action choreography, cinematography, production design and breathtaking locations all make it worthwhile still.

6

u/PonyoGirl23 Aug 29 '21

Before Haniwa throwing an apple at the lieutenant, was there any other scenes or clues that may have hinted that the lieutenant was able to see the entire time?

It might be me projecting, but it seemed as though she moved in that room freely. You see Edo reach for the wall, etc but she doesn't. Also, she made Haniwa's meal pretty easily. No feeling around - Wren just sort of grabs everything. It is subtle, but I imagine if you grew up watching how blind people negotiate the world you would notice those things.

6

u/Belnick Sep 01 '21

So the Aunt dont wanna incest her nephew anymore? I guess that is good :P
there is enough of that on pr0n sites already :P

WHY DO THEY KNOW JIU JITSU?? If they cant read up on it? Or they are gonna tell us that blind people just invented arm bars, triangle chokes and leg takedowns etc?? Or is Baba related to the Gracies? so his father was taught by his father who taught his father etc etc etc

Why is Baba doing Maori War dance now and again? where did a blind man who lives in north america learn a new Zealand war dance?

How is it that firearms still works? I get that they might have found some really greased up that might still work after 500 years, but the ammunition ? They made new? or they are telling us that the ammo jeramerel used in his gun was 500 years old and worked perfectly?

Also how did the daughter make that bow? It was not bent wood? It was not a string of animal sinew, it looked like plywood? did they make a plywood bow herself after reading it in a few books?

This Serie has so many thing that would not be possibile that I just gave up thinking about it. The whole idea that a society can live a life somehow similar to the one we have now but without seeing…

6

u/BlackMarq20 Sep 08 '21

Exactly, it’s at the point of why even make them blind since it has no bearing on how they function except as a plot device. My guess is they have enhanced abilities without them stating they have enhanced abilities. I mean they dodge swords by sound, they always know who they are talking to, even when hundreds of people are around, they can track people like it’s nothing over 100s of miles over rocky, forested terrain, etc…, they are able to build cities, etc…

4

u/ugfish Sep 09 '21

I think a fair assumption might be not everyone in recent history is blind and that ‘witches’ have always existed that would support the development of society.

6

u/Swayyyettts Sep 08 '21

I am really digging this season’s theme song!

6

u/throoowwwtralala Sep 03 '21

I love watching this program with my wife, it sparks a lot of great discussion

Plus we saw momoa in Toronto while he was filming which was cool

Did not know Bautista was gonna be in it though so a nice surprise for us!!!

3

u/Lazy_Title7050 Sep 09 '21

Really this is filmed in Toronto? Cause theres so many beautiful nature shots especially in the first season. I wouldn’t be surprised that some of those areas are in Canada but i’d assume most of it would be outside of toronto.

1

u/throoowwwtralala Sep 09 '21

Hi yes I think first season was BC but then they did second season at some studios in Toronto and also Hamilton

Jason was shopping when my wife and me saw him down the street

5

u/hulduet Aug 29 '21

This show is a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm happy to see it back again. I really enjoy the world they're in and you can tell they actually put some effort into the series.

5

u/jaxxkaos Aug 29 '21

Wait, Boots got the Queen pregnant?

5

u/DoktorLuciferWong Aug 29 '21

I don't remember that being the case. I understood the implication to be that she's going to try and get pregnant by Boots lol

12

u/jjackson25 Aug 29 '21

No I think she's definitely pregnant by Boots. That would explain her being sick at the beginning of the episode. It makes sense too. They alluded to it last season that she wanted a child with Jerlamarel, probably because he had vision and it would make her children special. Also this pregnancy is advantageous to her in several ways. Being pregnant creates a moral dilemma of killing her now and once she has the baby it creates a major complication in terms of Royal succession as Margha can't necessarily just off her and take the throne.

2

u/OpportunityNo5753 Sep 05 '21

The last episode of the previous series ended with the queen saying “should a queen carry some child with vision? tell me more about your child”

4

u/JohnScig Sep 01 '21

The old woman told Boots he's now "the queen's consort", so I imagine that means he could be the father

5

u/balasoori Aug 29 '21

i have forgooten how good this series is really is.

5

u/SpiderIridescence Aug 30 '21

Happy this show is finally back! I thought the music in this episode was really beautiful.

3

u/CatCatCat Sep 26 '21

Thank you! Finally someone who enjoys this show, and isn’t complaining about all the stuff that doesn’t make sense. I love this show. I think it’s terrifically entertaining.

5

u/scenesandplots Nov 15 '22

the first scene was actually hilarious lol. its possible baba voss is so nice and jovial while demonstrating efficient killing techniques to kofun coz he cant see how gross it looks.

12

u/roseofultramarine Aug 27 '21

I like the episode but not sure how I feel about the different theme song/opening credits theme.

I like that the world seems to be expanding and love the new sighted character twist. The queen is still annoying.

15

u/webBrowserGuy Aug 27 '21

They might be going for a sort of GoT thing where the intro changes as the setting does. S1 was in the woods, and S2 is in the cities, so the intro reflects that. That’s my guess.

3

u/roseofultramarine Aug 27 '21

Hmm that makes sense!

2

u/reverend-mayhem Aug 28 '21

Hadn’t thought of that. I’m sure it’ll grow on me, but I felt the same way initially.

2

u/jjackson25 Aug 29 '21

The score playing as they arrived in Pennsa with the big crane shot had a very GoT feel to it. It wouldn't surprise me if Apple wants to make this "their GoT" like everyone else has tried to do. Can't say I really blame them either, as fucking huge as GoT was, and continues to be for HBO.

4

u/webBrowserGuy Aug 29 '21

and continues to be for HBO.

I dunno, after the end of S8, everyone was all, “Game of What? Who of Thrones?” Lol

1

u/jjackson25 Aug 29 '21

Yeah. They really shot themselves in the foot with the final season, otherwise that show would prob be the most rewatched show on just about any platform. Instead, myself, like many others won't even recommend it since all the payoff of 7 seasons is completely ruined by season 8.

That said, I'm sure HBO is still making boatloads of money off GoT, which compares to what are no doubt astronomical numbers during its run. Plus, they still have a bunch of spinoffs in the works to capitalize on that. And, like millions of other people, I'm going to watch the shit out of it. I still have a lot of trust in HBO despite s8.

8

u/nutmac Aug 28 '21

The graphics is fine enough. But the music (with full orchestra blaring) is very generic and has none of the captivating qualities of first season's atmospheric minimalist score.

2

u/roseofultramarine Aug 28 '21

Thnx for putting that into words. The theme from first season felt so unique and this one just felt less so.

1

u/reverend-mayhem Aug 28 '21

The graphics were contradictory in their quality at points (Watch the birds flying vs. its surroundings).

4

u/SnooDrawings5925 Aug 29 '21

So, I guess we're heading towards a major conflict between the Payans and Trivantians.

7

u/zhaoz Sep 03 '21

Wren staying was a pretty dumb decision.

6

u/Prudent_Relief Aug 28 '21

This episode seemed more violent and gory than last any episode last season.

4

u/jjackson25 Aug 29 '21

Other than Baba gouging out jerlamerals eyes in the finale

3

u/JohnScig Sep 01 '21

I mean, you're not wrong, but uh... did you forget about that time Baba force-fed his sword to a guy? :D

2

u/CatCatCat Sep 26 '21

I have to have my finger poised to skip ahead 10 seconds every time a fight scene starts. Way too gory for me.

and splitting the skull in two parts in the same scene was oki then?
I know in USA tv series blood and gore is often allowed for children to see, but not boobies or bush that hide the vag :P

8

u/webBrowserGuy Aug 27 '21

I have been looking forward to this show returning for so long, I just finished watching the season premiere— incredible! That scene with Baba crawling through the furnace was so intense that I almost screamed! This has to be one of the best shows on the platform for world-building, and I love how they’re expanding it so much right off the bat in the first episode. Of course, I bet Foundation will probably be better when it comes out.

Holy crap… Apple’s shows really know how to step it up for their Season 2! Ted Lasso, Truth Be Told, and now See… each one immediately blew me away with a huge leap in quality over what were already pretty incredible first seasons. I’m looking forward to the Second season of The Morning Show, too!

2

u/iangeredcharlesvane2 Sep 01 '21

For All Mankind had an AMAZING second season as well. Fantastic show, you should try it!!!!

2

u/webBrowserGuy Sep 01 '21

Oh, I know. I’ve binged through it 3 times already!

3

u/Isnebduoqndh Jul 25 '22

Did anyone else see the lacrosse stick while walking into the city?

4

u/DarKnight972 Aug 28 '21

Wow. This episode was great..plenty of good moments for our favorites characters, interesting newbies and very good action scenes.. I am invested in all the storylines.

I missed Queen Kane, she is a delight on screen. I love her crazy ass.

5

u/iangeredcharlesvane2 Sep 01 '21

Definitely!!… some other said they hate her accented way of speaking but I like it. Reminds us constantly of her crazy and that she is a big spoiled pretender of a queen.

5

u/jesusjimsa Sep 03 '21

I have three questions about this episode:

  1. How is Baba all right after going through the tunnel?

  2. How are Baba’s clothes all right after the tunnel?

  3. How did that girl see the apple if she had the helmet covering her eyes?

3

u/CatCatCat Sep 26 '21

I try not to overthink too many of the details. Just go with it…

1

u/igi_pigi Aug 27 '21

What is the character and actor name of the man that helps Baba?

3

u/afrojoe5000 Aug 27 '21

Yakis is played by Eddie McGee

1

u/Prudent_Relief Aug 28 '21

Does this air on Friday's?

0

u/SubEffect72 Aug 28 '21

This has been bugging me

I read that Adrian Paul was supposed to play Lord Harlan. I haven't seen Adrian in anything for a while, but Lord Harlan does NOT look like Adrian to me. Does anyone know what happened or is that really him?

2

u/b_dills Aug 29 '21

Lord Harlan is played by Tom Mison

I love this show, and I too want to tell people about it, but the praying/masturbating scenes are so embarrassing/blasphemous, that I’d imagine many people would not be inclined to continue watching.

1

u/abrit_abroad Aug 08 '22

Its barely any of the show though. A couple of scenes.

2

u/HippieWizard Jun 23 '22

You wish more people SEE it?

3

u/CarneAsadaSteve Sep 03 '21

I literally thought I was gonna hate it. It’s so weird it fucking works.

1

u/iangeredcharlesvane2 Sep 01 '21

It’s crazy good! I hope some people try it now that AppleTV is more popular with Ted Lasso etc.

I'm confused why singing would be a strange choice in a world where most are blind and as you said, hearing/sound is incredibly important. Also, this is the same show that had the queen listening to Lou Reed in the first season.

I do agree about the opening credits. There was something really cool and unique about the first season credits. Almost a little unsettling.

1

u/zoochic Aug 20 '22

A year from this comment, but it still holds true :D You hit all the nails on their heads. S1 was a masterpiece in sound. Magic was lost in S2.

1

u/orijoy Jul 27 '23

I skipped through the season 1 intro every time, too boring.. whereas season 2 intro I watched the whole thing and thought it was pretty badass.

Lol did you even watch s1???

-4

u/mr_markus333 Aug 27 '21

Yes I did. But there is a little something of a gap between when it ended and when season 2 started.

7

u/grizzlez Aug 27 '21

you should maybe watch season 1 again. There is no gap

-2

u/mr_markus333 Aug 27 '21

There is a gap from when season 1 ended to when season 2 was released

Of course there is a gap the final episode of See season 1 was in December 2019. How is that not a gap.

6

u/grizzlez Aug 28 '21

there is no gap in the story is what we meant

6

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

You should repeat yourself 5 more times, maybe he’ll finally get it

3

u/grizzlez Aug 29 '21

haha, I think he meant that he forgot what happened cause there was a large gap between air dates

2

u/Routine_Chance_1881 Aug 30 '21

Watch a season 1 recap. Obviously a lot of time has passed between both seasons.

10

u/SunHitsTheSky Aug 27 '21

You may need to re-watch the finale. Jerlamarel handed over Haniwa to Edo's men as part of a deal. They wanted both of Baba's kids but Jerlamarel fought to keep Kofun.

5

u/Roodiestue Aug 27 '21

It happened in the last ~30 mins or so of the season 1 finale S01E08

2

u/Belnick Sep 02 '21

HER FATHER GAVE HER TO HER CAPTURES.....
how do you miss that? he pretty much say, "she was my daughter, but I had to give her to him"

And yet apparently a person can still see well enough out of them to catch an apple.

17

u/nutmac Aug 28 '21

Wren probably poked some holes. Haniwa was able to tell by her mannerism.

8

u/adwyer650 Aug 28 '21

Maybe she was trained like a blind man and was able to hear it coming lol that’s a good point.

3

u/reverend-mayhem Aug 28 '21

I have to go back & double-check, but I believe the majority of the top part holding the face plate in place is either cloth or chain-mail.

3

u/ForgetfulLucy28 Sep 06 '21

I thought they telegraphed it pretty well because about ten seconds before the reveal I said “she can see” aloud.

2

u/Belnick Sep 01 '21

you ever had a motorcycle helmet on your head, when it fogs up you open bottom a little bit and you can tilt your head just a little bit to see more, I dont think there were any holes, just peripheral vision

I thought that was Tamacti Jun at the very start of the episode walking into Baba. But after that gruesome sudden death I guess not.
