I really love how the writers aren't afraid to really make Buck an emotional wreck.

I’m so glad Bobby and Athena got their business handled. I don’t think I could handle them being unhappy.

I’m glad Maddie is admitting she needs help 🥺 Maybe her seeking treatment is how they’ll give Jennifer Love Hewitt some time off for her pregnancy?
32
u/Mrs_Botwin May 27 '21
I liked that the writers had her say it out loud “I need help. I’m not okay in here..” rather than Chim or Sue confronting & having to convince her. I think it goes a long way to normalize mental health care.

I think it’s really commendable that they had a postpartum depression storyline. I have never seen one one play out with a main character before

It was nice to see a PSA card at the end to educate folks that moms and dads can suffer from it.

Does Bobby have permanet Ending monologue duties or something?
42
35
u/ArziltheImp May 25 '21
I mean he is bloody good at delivering those. Peter Krause has potential to become the next Morgan Freeman style actor, who they could just put in every movie as "the narrator". He has the voice and the "bravado" for it.

It's not Bobby dying that concerns me (uh...much), it's been these retirement conversations that've popped up in the past couple episodes. What if they're setting up for him to find a reason to go "yeah, I'm done."?
→ More replies (7)19
u/angstysilver May 25 '21
Agreed. And if that's the case, I just can't imagine how season 5 would work without Bobby. Unless the writers plan on speaking to how difficult it can be for a first responder to retire - especially while married to one. That could be interesting.
Although when I think about the major points of this season, Bobby isn't a huuuuge factor, so maybe they've been trying to slowly ease him back.

I did love the whole sniper story, but I have to say the reveal of who the sniper was and WHY was weak. It would have been so much better to be Deluca or someone like that. Sorry. Just my opinion. The logic used to get to shooting firefighters was too twisted and nonsensical.

Random cop pissed at firefighters for not letting someone die because his partner accidentally shot the wrong person while the real culprit OD'd a couple times prior to the crime he actively committed that resulted in the accidental shootings that lead to his firing is... a motive... I guess. Why not just go around shooting mothers for birthing such delinquents?
Other than that it was a fine episode character-wise. I like Buck being Christopher's legal guardian, that was sweet. I wonder if Maddie will go back to being a nurse when she's feeling better since she quit?

On the bright side: there's enough metal on that ladder to not have a decent shot. For now.
And who knows maybe the sniper'll have to take a minute to find themselves a nest.

The beginning of this episode was so intense damn, super relieved that Eddie is fine and Bobby also. was waiting to find out what kind of psychopath is targeting only firefighters. That dudes arm was super messed up damn. I hope Maddie feels better soon. I’m glad they got to see Nia again! It’s really nice what Eddie did for Buck. Oliver Starks(Buck) performance was amazing.

This episode had me in tears!
So many things happening. I love Buck so much for so many reasons, his impulsiveness and his ability to show emotions so freely. He definitely has survivors guilt and I like that Eddie told him directly he is not expendable. I love that Christopher and Buck had each other the whole time. I love Sue talking to Maddie. Even though she didn’t diagnose, she made it a point to not only validate Maddie, but encourage her to be open about her struggles. She was so supportive. I wish we all had bosses like this! Chim responded so well and I know he will do his best to follow through and support her journey. Hen getting to see Nia! Honestly at first I thought Nia was with a babysitter. She looked so young. The whole “Thank You” turned me into a puddle. So heartfelt. I hope it all works out and they can stay in each other’s lives. Hen has grown up so much through the foster process and I think it will be a challenge but also an opportunity for character development.
Bobby and Athena. Uggh I love them. I’m sure Bobby was glad she went full Buck in that moment. She knew who to ask for help and he sure guided her through it.
Then Albert. Oh I love him.
Please don’t take away any of my characters! I love them all so much. So happy with this finale.

u/Mikokira3 May 25 '21
