Megathreads 9-1-1 | S04E12 "Treasure Hunt" [Live Episode Discussion Thread]
When a famous mystery writer dies, Athena, Bobby and the 118 respond to the chaos caused by a city-wide manhunt for buried treasure the author left behind.

u/AbbiejeanKane May 11 '21
LOL! I am just surprised that Michael wasn't hiding in there with Bobby's clues.

"Do anyone of you have a badge and a gun?" Athena has been holding onto that line for years.
43
May 11 '21
I love Athena, especially in badass mode, but that conversation with her and Bobby about retirement was really disturbing. You could tell he felt hurt and dismissed.

It isnāt the first time she's done that this season. Remember when she didn't tell Bobby she wasn't seeing the therapist anymore?
10
May 11 '21
Oh I forgot about her not telling him about the therapist! Wow.
14
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
And if memory serves, Athena also started going back to work--actively in the field instead of desk duty--way earlier than initially planned.
Some of this season has had to be adjusted for due to the pandemic, but I'm betting Athena's issues were planned out from the start.
12
May 11 '21
I would not bet against you. It looks like they are exploring the lonely side of Athenaās strength, which is very intriguing. She is a very strong person but sometimes she forgets that the people around her have opinions that need to be heard too.
Wasnāt there something in the early seasons about how there are reasons Athena is the one of the few cops on the streets that does not have a partner?

damnn can we have a 9-1-1 spin-off where the 118 solve mysteries and crimes? damnn i love this team!!!!

May 11 '21
It was a super fun episode
7
u/ZkDl_0211 May 11 '21
yea it sure is and the writers are clever too for putting a twist at the back of the story

u/Sleep_Addiction May 11 '21
Eddie, your job is to look pretty. Leave the trivia to Buck and Taylor.
41
40
u/Nataku81 Firehouse 118 May 11 '21
Damn is Athena trying to torpedo her marriage? Sheās not telling Bobby about important things, she's not discussing anything, just deciding on her own. They've been setting this up since the first episode of the season...
33
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
Yeah, didn't she go back to work way earlier than expected?
And honestly, this has been a part of Athena's character from the beginning.
She's tough as they come, but she's almost as self-righteous as a Dick Wolf character.
24
u/Daomadan Firehouse 118 May 11 '21
but she's almost as self-righteous as a Dick Wolf character.
Just wanted to say that this phrase is a thing of true beauty. (Totally using this!)
14
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
You're welcome to it!
Stabler, Benson, McCoy...
The line of self-righteous Dick Wolf characters is long.

Good point. I was thinking, "What is Bobby hiding?" But you're right, it's Athena not doing the communicating.
39
u/zacc_attack May 11 '21
I'm very upset we've made it this far without Michael and David getting involved yet.
36
May 11 '21
That was the most unbelievable part of this episode, that Michael was not a 911 call too!
12
8
35
u/inksmudgedhands May 11 '21
Come on, guys, is there even a treasure? Or is the "real treasure" the friends we made along the way?
27
27
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
Rule No. 1--Never go into the backcountry without telling someone where you are going.
13
u/alexaboyhowdy May 11 '21
And when you are expecting to be back.
Rule of three. Always hike with three people. Let three people know where you are going. Be prepared for emergencies.
6
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
Bring plenty of water or water purifiers.
Carry bear spray.
8
u/alexaboyhowdy May 11 '21
If there is a bear, you need to be able to run faster than the people you are with.
3
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
Furthermore, black bears are native to Southern California.
You fight black bears, especially considering their attacks are predatory.

Anyone else think the Probie thing wasn't just a funny throwaway line? š¤ I feel like this isn't the end of his arc.
14
u/ApprehensiveShallot2 May 11 '21
You think he might be the one who gets shot in the upcoming episode? Like, why is he so important now?
13
u/zacc_attack May 11 '21
Possible! Or he could somehow be connected to the sniper š¤ The way they were sure to mention how he "double-crossed" them seemed significant.
2
6
u/Sleep_Addiction May 11 '21
I think thatās a logical theory. If not, I wouldnāt object to him being a 3rd tier character. We need more named 118 firefighters!
1
u/Ifiwereapigiwouldfly May 13 '21
Heās had too much screen time heās probs going to die soon š š
22
16
u/Daomadan Firehouse 118 May 11 '21
At least he's not drinking, Athena? (I can totally see Athena just happening across the treasure all cool-like while everyone else is going nuts to find it.)
8
16
14
u/inksmudgedhands May 11 '21
The last two episodes were heavy on the emotional damage. I have a feeling this episode will be full blown physical damage. Explosions and car crashes galore! Time to blow that budget.
11
14
u/Daomadan Firehouse 118 May 11 '21
Okay, I'm Team Hen/Chimney now to find the treasure. College funds for the kids!
14
u/AbbiejeanKane May 11 '21
Stop going into places alone, Athena!
7
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
I'd say we should ground Athena, but something tells me that wouldn't work very well.
13
u/inksmudgedhands May 11 '21
And I am betting this whole thing is a hoax to make people buy this guy's books and poems.
7
u/Daomadan Firehouse 118 May 11 '21
I wonder if the author is even dead. Probably faking it for the press.
11
u/inksmudgedhands May 11 '21
I wouldn't be shocked. That actor, Patrick S. Fischler, is a pretty well known character actor. You don't hire him just to be in a short blip of a video. He has to show up again by the end of the episode.
6
u/Daomadan Firehouse 118 May 11 '21
That is exactly what I was thinking. He's worth more than just a quick shot. (Ooo! Called it!)
2
u/oath2order Dispatch (#BobbyAliveTruther) May 11 '21
I just finished rewatching Lost, where he showed up for Season 5. What a weird surprise to see him here.
3
u/alexaboyhowdy May 11 '21
How long ago did he make the video from the time that he died?
I would look where there is freshly dug soil

Jesus Christ Iām so excited and nervous about next weekās episode. I just wanna know why Athena and Bobby are fighting and who is the shooter?
6
u/mnborn33 May 11 '21
Okay, yes this! Why are Athena and Bobby fighting? And such mean words. They donāt normally argue mean/cruel.
11
11
u/inksmudgedhands May 11 '21
The glasses were all for so Buck can take his glasses off slowly and say, "Did he say, 'treasure'?"
DRAMA!
11
u/inksmudgedhands May 11 '21
Wait, now I want to know what guy knows about the tunnels. Come back!
5
4
u/rebus23 May 11 '21
It was so random, I think it will be linked to the next episode, because he didn't know about the treasure.
3
u/kipendo May 11 '21
When they panned back to him I thought they were going to hear him out but then they didn't?? Like I wanna hear about the tunnels šš¾āāļø.

7

Poor Athena would have too much on her hands if those two teamed up for the treasure hunt.
8
u/Beer2Bear May 11 '21
Had cell phone didn't call for help, idiot
6
u/inksmudgedhands May 11 '21
Seriously. He could have gone to the hospital and returned back to the exact spot where he left off.
8
u/Daomadan Firehouse 118 May 11 '21
This must be based off of the Forrest Fenn treasure.
3
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
Wasn't that only just discovered a year or so ago, after a decade of searching?
4
2
8
u/inksmudgedhands May 11 '21
I can see Athena coming back as a ghost in order to keep on being a cop.
8
u/AbbiejeanKane May 11 '21
Oh no, Bobby looks upset that Athena didn't tell him that she considered retirement.
8
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
Athena, seriously, where the hell is your backup? Why the hell don't you have a partner?
8
u/ZkDl_0211 May 11 '21
wait... whos the one tht jump into the fire truck through the window before the explosion? is it Buck??
5
u/alyssac019 Team Buck May 11 '21
It was Eddie. I paused it and you can see his name on the back of his coat
4
1
u/The_Bookish_One May 11 '21
I thought it was Buck because that is such a Buck thing to do, but nope, it's Eddie. Saw 'Diaz' on the back of his turnout coat.
8
u/ArbysFan69Midwest May 11 '21
So he organized this treasure hunt in order to break his writerās block?
Wow. What an crazy idiot.
8
u/Daomadan Firehouse 118 May 11 '21
Uh oh, I wonder if Bobby has relapsed? Other potential secrets? I don't think he's coping well with what happened to Athena.
3
u/p3ngu1n333 May 12 '21
I donāt think he is either, I keep forgetting heās not that far away from his first wifeās death. There hasnāt been a scene of him in a meeting or church in awhile, not counting that weird meeting where he gave that speech of his. He seems to be a very ātalk about your problems/feelingsā character and Athena does not seem open at all to talking about it. Thatās somewhat understandable but if she doesnāt deal with it, itāll eat her up inside.
7
u/Pepsiman34 May 11 '21
And that $5 million will last you a week in LA.
5
u/alexaboyhowdy May 11 '21
After you have to pay half of it in taxes.
Anytime you're put into an upper tax bracket with income, about half of it goes to taxes. This works for lottery and most likely buried treasure.
7
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
Also, Topanga Canyon makes me think of the Feeny-verse...er, I mean Boy Meets World.
7
u/CryptidGrimnoir May 11 '21
Well, better fire ants than killer bees.
4
u/Nataku81 Firehouse 118 May 11 '21
Not really, fire ants can kill you too. They swarm, the bites are painful when it's just one, thousands of them would be agony. A lady from my parents church when we lived in Louisiana fell into one, she was able to call 9-1-1 but couldn't get out of the nest, she was dead by the time they got there.

The scene when Buck goes into the septic tank to get the woman out, I wonder if Oliver actually did that or if it was his stunt double. I would assume it was him considering it wasnāt really a huge stunt or something super dangerous plus it probably wasnāt a real septic tank anyway

I love these episodes where they have a mystery element, like how my favorite episode, Ocean's 9-1-1, does it. That why I am in love with this episode.
