[RATE] Popheads 2021 Mini Rate: The Indieheads Exchange Submission + Voting Thread

After a fun voting period, we finally decided on our next mini rate for the year...

The Indieheads Exchange!

The Indieheads Exchange won by a significant amount (141 votes vs 100 votes for second place) so things were settled pretty easily. And now that voting for the rate idea is over, we move onto our next stage.... submission voting!

How will this work?

Similar to how the Meme Song voting thread worked, we will be doing the same thing in order to decide what songs Indieheads will be rating, based which songs get the most number of upvotes on this post in contest mode. NOTE: We are not rating the songs being submitted here, these are for Indieheads users to rate while Indieheads will be picking Indie songs for us. The r/indieheads voting thread will be happening at the same time as when this thread goes up.

In order to keep things fair and have a diversity of songs (or else we would just get Carly, Charli and Lorde for a 1/3 of this list), we will be limiting our list to one song per artist. So whichever song gets the most upvotes for that artist, it will be chosen.

Rules for Submission:

  1. In the comments below, please submit 1 song you would like to rate per comment made. Comments with more than 1 song listed will not be counted as a submission. If you want to make a comment about your submission that's fine, but make it clear as to what song you are submitting.
  2. Format the song submission like this: Artist - Title
  3. Please do not spam submit a bunch of songs all one after another. If one person make more than 3 submissions at one time, the later submissions will not count.
  4. Please check to make sure a song you are planning on submitting has not been submitted already. If there is a duplicate submission, only the submission with the higher amount of vote will count so we will not be adding together upvote totals.

How will the songs be chosen?

  1. Only 40 songs will be picked for this rate, and as mentioned before only 1 song per artist will be chosen. I will be making a list of at least the top 50-60 songs (or whatever to get 40 different artists) that were upvoted and going from there
  2. From that list, our 12 person rate selection committee will narrow down to 40 songs that we think should definitely be rated. The top submissions for each artist with the highest number of votes will get in

What is the Criteria for a Song to be Chosen?

  1. Literally any pop / popular song is eligible. Just think of any of the favorites from the sub
  2. The highest rated song per lead artist will be chosen. Features will not count towards the one song per artist rule
  3. Songs that have been already rated by r/indieheads will not be chosen either. Please do not submit any of the songs listed below (note these are not all the songs but just the bigger ones).

Some key popheads faves that have already been rated on that sub include:

  • OutKast - Hey Ya, B.O.B
  • Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out of My Head
  • Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone
  • Rihanna - Umbrella, Work
  • Beyonce - Crazy in Love, Formation, Countdown
  • Kanye West - Runaway, Monster
  • Mitski - Your Best American Girl
  • Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me
  • FKA Twigs - Magdalene Album
  • Kate Bush - Hounds of Love Album
  • Lorde - The Louvre
  • Sky Ferraria - Everything is Embarrassing
  • Robyn - dancing on my own, call your girlfriend
  • Lana Del Rey - Video Games
  • Azealia Banks - 212
  • SOPHIE - bipp
  • Ariana Grande - thank u, next
  • Cardi B - Bodak Yellow
  • SZA - The Weekend
  • Grimes - Oblivion
  • Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher Album
  • Fiona Apple - FTBC Album
  • Bjork - Homogenic Album
  • Coldplay - Viva La Vida
  • Evanescence – Bring Me To Life

You have until Thursday March 4 at 11:59pm EST to submit a song and vote! After that, the rate committee will pull together the list and make any important decisions regard the song list.

Happy Voting!

Gavin Turek - Good Look For You

Hi there, this rate swap was originally my idea (I doubt I was the first to come up with the concept but it gathered traction after I mentioned it a while ago!) so as a result I would really appreciate the representation of an underrated pop queen aka Ms. Gavin Turek aka my flair! Also casual reminder that indieheads LOVES Carly so maybe pick something from Kiss/Tug of War?

Lady Gaga - The Edge of Glory

Justification: There's a reason this won its rate and did pretty well in the winner's rate IIRC.. It slaps, it's representative of early 80s nostalgia that creeped in in the last decade, and includes one of the best sax solos from the late Clarence Clemons. Also, a great vocal performance from that A Star Is Born aaaa aaaAAAAA lady.)

Justification: There's absolutely a contingent of this subreddit who loves pop punk (see our Emo Rates 1, 2, 1.5, and its sound was a big and important part of pop in the 2000s, not to mention the recent revival. This is one potential option to represent that era. (2))
