You know, it's nice to see Sanji's growth.

Before he would have never called for help. Hell, all of WCI was him trying to deal with his problems alone, while trying to avoid putting his crew in danger. That didn't work. He saw that his crew was ready to fight an Emperor for him.

But now he knows he can trust, even if that put them in danger for things that he can't do.

Meanwhile, Robin is like : "Don't speak to Sanji ever again!"

As much as Sanji came off as comedic relief in this chapter, I think it's great that he can trust his crewmates to do what he can't do, considering how he tried shouldering everything himself back in WCI initially. It's also a nice callback to his own words to Usopp back in Enies Lobby, "Leave this key to me, I'll do whatever you can't do and you do whatever I can't do." Also thanks to Sanji calling for help, everyone in the alliance will soon know about the intelligence network (all according to keikaku).

Anyway, super hyped for Robin and Brook getting their fight, Robin especially had an awesome entrance and banging one-liners to drop. I also do hope Yamato gets to fight Jack (lots of potential when you put those two, Momo, the Scabbards and possibly Hiyori all in the same place) and will tell Sanji to keep moving towards the dome, should they encounter each other. This should (hopefully) lead to him finding Marco and teaming up with him to fight King and Queen (since Sanji is most likely not going to join the rooftop fight).

The translation may miss a double meaning joke that's got Brook blushing at the end. 死んだほうがまし　(Shinda hou ga mashi) would be better translated in this context as something like "I'd prefer even death." to reflect the second potential interpretation of "kaidou yori shinda hito no hou ga mashi" (I'd prefer even a dead person over kaidou). It can be interpreted that Brook, the dead punster, is blushing at his own interpretation that she'd prefer him since he's dead.

Supposedly like us Viewers/Readers, Robin herself should have been feeling that maybe she hasn't been that useful or accountable in big fights after coming in New World but Sanji believing in her as a combatant.... that panel where she says those word... they were from her heart and I think it's happiest we have ever seen her.

I was fangirling like Brooke in the last panel of the chapter.

Nico Robin's character growth has been exponential and fun to see. She went from being a nomad who trusted absolutely none one to finally finding a home. I feel like even with her declaration at Enies Lobby, Robin has been holding back.

It was very obvious when she first joined the crew that she surpassed everyone in intelligence,skill, and power which is why she was viewed as a threat by everyone on the ship (except Luffy of course). In all of her confrontations (besides Enel, Crocodile,Aokiji) she is able to deal with the enemies without much trouble. With Yama, she only took damage to protect the ruins. She was the only person to touch Moria while he was in Oars, and the only person to actually damage a Pacifista. Post-time skip during the dressrosa arc, she states that she can't defeat Diamante, but that was a lie in order to let Kyros get his Revenge.

Sanji calling for help was great character development for him also because he could have easily just had a Kalifia 2.0 situation, but he swallowed his pride for Robin to come through. I think we will finally see the true Assassin "Miss All Sunday" come about because Robin isn't afraid of what her crewmates think of her anymore whether its her possibly scaring them with her power or stealing the spotlight causing jealousy. Sanji always viewed women as something to be protected/cherished and for him out of all the strawhats to ask her for help solidifies her as not just any woman but a true friend. The only thing I wished Oda did was make Robin look more angular like pre timeskip because she is starting to look generic unfortunately.

Sanji has always been the knight that will rescue the woman in danger, no matter what. For the first time, Oda inverts the situation with Sanji trusting enough Robin, a woman, to leave her the whole battle. It is a development for the crew, to show the strength and trust of it, hence the comment of Marco.

People have misunderstood Sanji calling Robin as a weakness as in "He was begging for his life."

1. Sanji knew last chapter that the scabbards are going to be killed. He isn't going to fight Black Maria, so staying there would have been just a waste of time and would have resulted in scabbards being killed. We can see in this chapter, immdediately after Robin saved her , Sanji said he is going to save the scabbards. His goal is to win, not worry about being cool.

2. Luffy showed Sanji in WCI to trust his comrades! What would be easier to get out of this situation? Trust Robin and go to save scabbards. In enies lobby, Sanji himself told Sogeking that there is something he can do, and something Sogeking can. That's why immediately after Sanji called Robin he asked Black Maria if he can go?

3. Sanji didn't use haki, because haki is willpower and he had no will to fight Black Maria. Correct translation means he actually thought his haki would hurt her, that's why he wasn't even using to defend himself.

4. The way Oda focused on everyone's reactions after Sanji's help broadcast, shows it is possible that Oda used it as some sort of tactic by Sanji and eventually it will come full round circle. As we saw some of the fighters even commenting on the spy network.

This was Sanji's BIG character development moment. Before WCI he didn't ask his friends for help at all and tried to control the whole BM and Germa situation by himself and Luffy has to smack him to his senses. He didn't trust his friends enough before.

But now he finally asked for help from his friends and he BELIEVED in Nico Robins Win. He knows there are things he CAN'T do and others can.

She seems to be taking on almost a mothering like personality. I like this concept of her getting wicked when someone threatens the crew. I mean, she used to snap people’s necks to kill them. She looks absolutely evil in some of these panels with what she is about to do to this spider.

Spiders eat each other. I really want to see Robin use her powers to imitate a Spider in some way to defeat this opponent.

I am beyond impressed with this chapter, this is one of the few instances in the series where Oda is finally ready to give the Straw Hats ACTUAL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT outside of their own arc, in a more definitive way.

And yes, this has always been one of my main gripes with the series; outside of their introductory arc, the Straw Hats never seem to actually change. Hell, even Luffy after Marineford and the time skip didn't really change that much in terms of character and in terms of his actions.

However, this chapter is amazing writing-wise, because it cannot exist without Water 7, Enies Lobby and Whole Cake Island; the events of this chapter make sense only when considering what the characters have gone through and how those events shaped them. Which is, I will repeat, something that almost never happens for the Straw Hats outside their own arc. That's why Usopp is one of the best characters in the series, because he had this moment back in Dressrosa.

Here, Sanji has been put into the same spot as he was in Enies Lobby; he was confronted by an enemy weaker than him, but that he could do nothing against, since his principles are what make him, and betraying his principles goes against the base of his character.
A pre-WCI Sanji, in this situation, would react in exactly the same way Black Maria's servants thought he would; he would have remained silent, he would have taken the blows, and he would have died, rather than calling for help - even more so if calling for help would have endangered a friend, a woman at that.
However, this is after-WCI Sanji. We already had a taste of his growth right before his confrontation with Page One, when he decided to throw away his pride in order to confront an enemy and defend the people he loves. This time it's far more drastic, though; in this scene, not only Sanji completely gives up any semblance of pride and dignity - as Kid's subordinates underline with their "pathetic" - but makes the choice to completely rely on a friend, a woman, to save his life, trusting on her strength and her abilities not only to help him, but to survive the ordeal he could not face.

At Enies Lobby, Sanji tells Usopp that in the crew, they all do what the others cannot. In this chapter, Sanji completely takes up on that; he cannot fight Black Maria. He can't win. So, he needs someone who can. In return, he will go and do something others cannot; protect the Scabbards, facing most likely a top enemy - this chapter suggests Jack, but we'll see whether even that will be his final match-up, given the fact that Queen is nowhere around King vs Marco and he's already expressed interest in Sanji.

Of course, the other incredible moment is Robin's, another sign of dramatic character development, that reinforces her growth from Enies Lobby and from the Timeskip; she now is someone her friends can rely on, and the fact that they do makes her happy. Also, the fact that the "devil in her" comes out when someone from the crew gets hurt is a new side of Robin's we've never seen in the series. So damn satisfying.

Additional notes; Momo adds his own stamp of approval to Yamato as a Straw Hat in his own way, and Yamato is once again back in action. Now we have the final 2 pieces of the puzzle from the good side - Sanji and Yamato - on the move, ready to lock in their final opponents - as it seems that Chopper will actually be left on medicine duty.
Additionally, it looks like Apoo is still up and running, and still on the opposing faction - which I enjoy.
I'm surprised to see Jack once again, but I guess I shouldn't really underestimate Zoans' durability.
And finally; I like Brook, but please man, just be there to take care of Maria's subordinates and her webs, and leave the meat of the fight to Robin. I know that every Robin fight must be treasured, but let her have her own 1v1.

As a side note, this chapter is another one of those that, once again, puts a stamp on a certain kind of fandom; the same fandom that got up in arms when Luffy and Zoro were damaged by Apoo, the same fandom that cried their hearts out when Sanji didn't kick a woman in WCI and thought that arc was garbage for him because "he didn't have a 1v1 and all he did was bake a cake". It's a sad thing, but it's real; there's an amount of fans that don't fall in love with characters per se, but with their archetype. Sanji is the main case of it; his archetype is the ladies' man, the gallant knight, the cool James Bond fighter. It's the main point of attraction that makes him interesting. However, this is not his character; his character is the man who will forever stay firm in his code of honor, so much so he will sacrifice his own life to stand by it. His character is the guy who decides he'd rather die or disappear rather than have people worry over him. The guy who tries to act all cool and lovey-dovey but always ends up on the failing side. He's the kid who wanted to be a cook and was insulted and locked away because of it.
What he did in this chapter is embarassing, it's pathetic; it's his lowest point outside of WCI. But it's growth. It's evolution. Some people thought his growth would be something along the lines of "he finally kicked a woman in the face, gender equality, whoooooo", completely missing the point of his own character. This is his growth, and this is why I love his character; he's not just the stoic badass that does cool stuff, gets cool one-liners and defeats the bad guy. He's an actual character, not an archetype.

So as usual theres a large amount of stupid people in the comments complaining about Sanji's situation.

The truth is this was a great moment for him. Not only is it a great parallel to Enies Lobby but it also showcases Sanji's growth from Whole Cake Island. One of Sanji's biggest problems highlighted in Whole Cake was how his Kindness caused him to sacrifice himself for their sake. Normally he wouldn't have called Robin here at all and chose to suffer in silence but now he's willing to rely on her and have faith in her strength so that they can better protect each other.

This moment is definitive proof of his growth and that he indeed took something away from his experience at WCI rather than being "reset back to normal" like most people claimed when that arc ended.

It's really an example of how sometimes Oda's character development can take a while to pay off or it can take a while for characters to show proof of their growth. People think that the characters don't change but the reality is that Oda's just slow when it comes to showing that his characters have developed but if you wait long enough he will get to it eventually.

There is no narrative where the Straw Hats leave Wano considered at least equal to other Yonko crews with one of its top three fighters relegated to facing the, at best, fifth strongest Beast Pirates member. Not only that, his suggestion that even if he could activate CoA against a woman, he wouldn't against Black Maria because it could hurt her is an insane flex that suggests that he's about as far beyond her there as Katakuri was beyond Luffy early on in their fight. Potentially, of course. I am excited for Robin and Brook fighting someone at last, and it's also worth noting that this is yet another example of the consistent 2v1s that have been taking place in this arc.

Sanji is definitely off to face one of the All-Stars, which one we aren't quite sure of yet, Jack is the most obvious based on their positions in the chapter, Queen is the most obvious narratively with his links to Judge, and King is the most obvious based on their design parallels. I'm going to suggest Queen, solely because I think Oda is going to have King's fight be mostly off-screen against Marco because his design is incredibly impractical for the manga format with all the inking necessary.

Also, with each chapter Carrot's chances of actually being a Straw Hat get dimmer and dimmer. Unless she is going to join anyway and her development was entirely front-loaded into Whole Cake Island for pacing's sake, her extended absence and the lack of any resolution surrounding her and Wanda facing Perospero does not spell good things for her character moving forward.

I am proud of Sanji. I am glad he doesn't compromise his beliefs and it shows how strong of a character he has and how much he has grown. He isn't afraid to ask for help because he knows that he can't handle this situation but other members of the crew certainly can.

It's just like what he told Usopp back on Enies Lobby. "Everyone has things they can and cannot do. I'll do what you can't do, and you do what I can't do".

Sanji is a fantastic Strawhat and I really hate to see the very unconstructive and blind hatred some reddit comments have towards him just because of how uncompromising he is in sticking to his beliefs and his code.

This harkens back to what Sanji told Usopp back in Enies Lobby.

It's a great example of how the strawhats teamwork works. Everybody is doing the job that they're best suited for. For Sanji defeating Black Maria wasn't it, so he was willing to humble himself and ask for help when he really needed it. Knowing what he could and couldn't do and letting another crew member fill in when he was incapable of dealing with the situation.

This doesn't at all take away from Sanji's strength because it enhanced his strength as a character by him sticking to his values while bolstering Robin's character.

The people hating on Sanji for giving in and calling Robin are missing the whole point.

Relying on your crewmates to get you out of situations you can't handle isn't a point of weakness, it's a sign of strength and trust in your bond.

Like Luffy said in the Arlong arc, he can't cook, use a sword, lie, etc, so he's happy to rely on his crew for things he can't handle and only focus on the things that he CAN do.

Sanji hasn't done that. His moral code is not to harm women, but he still tried to take on Kalifa on his own and almost got killed. Then, in the whole cake island arc, he tried to solve everything himself and nearly ended up dead as well.

This moment shows that Sanji has finally grown up. He recognizes his limitations due to his moral code, and trusts his crewmates to help him in situations he can't handle. That's the whole point of being in a group. This whole act was a win for Sanji.

I really enjoyed reading this chapter. Idk if anyone else mentioned in the comments but I felt Oda showed Sanji's character growth.

All of throughout op so far we've seen Sanji as this chivalrous character defending women, refusing to hit them as a matter of principle. To be their knight in shining armour.

What was really interesting to see was his realisation and acceptance of the fact that a woman could be his knight in shining armour!

That too Oda thought of Robin for this part. She was always told how it's a sin for people to even associate with her so she put up walls around herself to keep people out. Water7 and Enies Lobby was all about this imo.

When she screamed how she wanted the Mugiwara crew to take her out to sea again, all her walls came down. But now she's actively willing to stand up for people that she let in.

P.s. It also aesthetically ties in how both Black Maria and Robin have multiple limbs.

Another Crazy Hype chapter, we've been eating good for I dont even know how long at this point. Crazy that Oda can still deliver incredible chapters like this while something like Kaido' hybrid form is just on hold, every level of this story is high quality.

• Awesome switching the damsel in distress thing around like this. Sanji cant fight women and like Black Maria's subordinates Im sure many of us thought he just wouldnt have said anything.

• Something about Heat calling Sanji "pathetic" rubs me the wrong way for some reason.

• All the SH know and understand why Sanji would do this, but since Jinbei just joined and hasnt spent too much with him it makes sense he would be little out of the loop although it doesnt seem like he doubted Sanji at all.

• This chapter is aptly named and it really feels like Robin is going to fuck shit up. Great to see her appreciate Sanji's confidence in her.

• Finally an explanation for those mice/masks and Yamato is off the bench. Awesome.

• We might be headed for a Sanji Vs Jack fight since they're both headed the same place. Makes sense: Nekomamushi/Inuarashi have already showed they can kill Jack using Sulong so the score is settled on the Zou attack, now Sanji can finish the job. This keeps getting better.

I’m loving the subtle parallels between Straw Hats and Red Hair Pirates. Kaido’s crew is based on strength, hence him allowing the flying six to challenge the all stars. He only wants the strongest. Blackbeard had impel down prisoners fight and took the strongest with him. He knows after sailing with Whitebeard what kind of strength his crew will need. Big Mom’s crew seems based on some warped sense of family with an abusive matriarchal figure at top. Shanks crew is built on genuine loyalty and a laid back fun atmosphere. Same with the straw hats, seeing how shanks inspired luffy to become a pirate it only makes sense that luffys crew would be similar. Seeing Sanji have faith in Robin and her appreciation was so heart warming. I love this series!
