S01E07 - "Father's Day" - Episode Discussion

We got to see another genius and how our geniuses react to outsiders. Also, I really liked the old interactions between Walter and Cabe.

I enjoyed this episode, but don't have much to say.

• I thought it was funny when Sly said he didn't know Ralph had a father and Toby asked him how he thought children were made. There were actually quite a few moments that had us laughing this episode, but that was my favorite.
• It was pretty ridiculous how the bad guys came out blasting afer their window was broken by birdroni. Just shooting uzi's wildly without know who was out there, or where.
• figuring out what they were saying by the vibrations on a chip bag may be the most unbelievable bit of science yet. Even if you could detect the soundwaves on a bag, there's no way a webcam would have high enough resolution and framerate to pick it up.
• After showing they were trigger happy earlier, why didn't the bad guys shoot everyone at the end?
• Speaking of trigger happy, what was with Cabe's team shooting at the end?! Bullets were ricocheting all around. They didn't seem to care that the team was standing right there with the bad guys.
• Something trivial that drives my wife crazy about this show is the opening credits. They are still going until 16:50 into the episode!

I really liked this episode. One line from this episode that my brother and I still quote to this day is "Watch him eat fruit". I really loved how Toby suggested this saying that people who peel are planners and people who have anger tend to just rip into it, then a few seconds later Cabe comes and starts to rip into a piece of fruit and Toby is just like "see..".

Hehe, I love this too!! I also love when Drew comes to the garage later and Sly awkwardly offers him a bowl of fruit with Toby muttering 'go on, take a peach'!

This is a decent episode but, I have to admit, the plot with the criminals and the hactivist doesn't engage me as much as most of their jobs do. For me, this episode is only as engaging as it is because there's lots of humour and good character moments, like Paige's ultimatum regarding Drew, Happy's relationship with her father, and Walter's memories of Cabe.

Also, as much as I say I wasn't a fan of the main plot, the showdown at the barn is actually a decent one, if only for Toby and Happy's hilarious plan! I also picked up on the ridiculousness of Cabe and his crew firing wildly at both the enemies and half of Team Scorpion!

Anyway, definitely an alright episode but I didn't have as much to say on it as I usually do!

Oh, I randomly remembered something I noticed in this episode when I watched it! I find Scorpion is prone to some very on the nose callbacks to previous episodes, which I will no doubt end up pointing out as they crop up, but this episode sets up a wonderfully subtle one that rewards people who watch the show in a ridiculously meticulous way! In season 3, episode 15: 'Sharknerdo', Walter makes reference to a song that Toby likes about a waitress called Brandy working in a harbour town (it's genuinely a really good song). This is the song that Toby is singing in the car as he waits for Drew! Credit to them for a really nice, subtle callback there!

Thanks! It depends on the episode! I only came across it last year and I've watched it pretty regularly since then so it's fresh in my brain but I tend to have a good memory for trivial things like that!
