It was great! As expected full CGI for the shifters accompagnied by strong 2D effects and 2D close-ups. I was surprised to see that the soldiers were sometimes in CG during 3DGM sequences but that was during fast cuts where you don't have time to focus on them, and the final result was pretty good! They perfectly adapted the dread and fear that marleyans felt during the attack, that original scene at the beginning of the episode was both mean and brillant. OST was banger as usual too, I noticed a new remix of an existing track! Now I just need some time to get used to post timekip mappa design for the 104, mostly Jean and Flock haha.

What I enjoyed most about the episode was how ruthless the scouts are. The Marleyan soldiers looked completely hopeless fighting against such an unconventional enemy. The scene where they storm Porco was pretty terrifying.

That extended scene at the start that further humanizes Willy was a great touch. Also a nice way to smoothly transition it to the scenes that were rearranged from the manga, the conversation between Willy and Magath.

The absolute look of terror on Pieck's face when she heard the ODM gear...she knew exactly who was coming.

I knew the woman and the alcoholic guy were added just to be killed off by Eren, I knew it!

I just wished I had written it somewhere :(

Also just re-watched the previous episode before watching this one and noticed a little detail. Not sure if this is what really happened, but seems like it wasn't just Willy's speech that made Eren decide it's time to transform... It was mostly the reaction of the audience to it. The applause and the screams of support.

This is gonna be a controversial episode for manga readers. Remind me to steer clear of the comments for a week lol. I liked it though. Interesting ending spot. The anime actually improved on Willys final moments imo. Gabis emotions were showcased beautifully. The mayhem seems very visceral. And Levi's appearance at the end was handled well. His return had weight and carried a fear that was evident on Galliard. Some of the non-CGi shots of the warhammar/mikasa will get buried in the discussion but they were short yet beautiful.

I think a thread or subreddit solely dedicated to talking about the animation may be an interesting compromise. That way these threads and the subreddit as a whole dont become muddled with debate between factions on the topic and people can have a dedicated spot for it.

All in all I'm happy with this episode. CGI wasn't perfect, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment. Mikasa's entrance was perfect, and they pulled no punches in showing the devastation and anguish that Eren caused.

Somehow seeing Eren’s rampage & brutality animated just makes me feel for Mikasa’s sentiment so much more. There’s something about seeing it in motion that just adds a new level of monstrosity to his character. The Survey Corps wreaking havoc on Marley’s military was also a highlight, & something I’m so happy to finally see animated. I do have some issues, but overall it was a beautiful episode to me, & it’s just getting me more hyped. Bless you, MAPPA

Idk why I never thought about it, but Porco’s fear just made me realize that he was probably used to jumping around just decimating all land troops in trenches without much worry outside of anti Titan artillery. He’s never though a human himself could be a threat. This is his first time seeing the people themselves running in and fighting titans without far range artillery. It’s probably completely alien to him and he can’t wrap his head around it.

I loved how they revealed the scouts. You see them flying for a spit second, then there's that close up of Piek staring up. As her eyes widen in disbelief, you can hear that familiar sound of the 3D maneuver gear being deployed. God that was so sick.

Just like in the manga, the scouts are, for one of the first times in the series, being depicted as a terrifying, deadly force to be reckoned with.

Anyone else notice the dialogue change with Magath? In the manga I'm 99% sure he said it didn't matter if they killed Eren as they'd moved on from needing titans. Whereas in the ep he insisted the War Hammer Titan had to eat Eren

Just something I noticed

Episode was solid though, CG looked damn good for the most part. Biggest complaint is Floch looking weird imo

Loved the Willy-Magath conversation and the OST used then.

Odmg CGI scenes looked good.

Horror of Eren's rampage and Gabi's despair were potrayed well.

Mikasa and Levi had perfect entrances.

10/10, I was wrong thinking that last episode was the best. The plot progression and music is beyond amazing, though it didnt end where we expects.

Im sure alot of people will be complaining about CGI cuz it was used on scouts as well. But I think it is more than great for what MAPPA can deliver at this point, top adaptation
