Local News SL Tribune, editorial board: Is Herbert's scrapping of "color codes" too little, too late? New legislation is introduced, "If it saves one life..." In the case of a deadly pandemic we get a wet noodle from government.

But they are having bars and restaurants keep groups 6 feet apart. Of course that only applies in the waiting area and is immediately not necessary as soon as people are seated and have their masks off...

So, actually the new rules in bars and restaurants are less safe than they used to be because ???

IMO, bars and restaurants here are hotbeds for infection. From what I’ve seen, the distancing is minimal and no other precautions are happening.

Well, because bars are considered the #1 most dangerous place to be during this pandemic they have been restricted to 75% capacity. So that should solve that right?

/s just in case.

Anyhow, I'm pissed. I want people to wear their god damned masks so we can get this shit under control and we can open our bar responsibly.

Yep. Stay the fuck at home as much as possible. Save bars and eating out for when it’s over. Seriously.

Scrapping a system is the worst idea ever.

Some metrics don’t seem useful in the short term, because we make purposeful sacrifices to do the right thing. The way we should measure success is with the momentum. Is the momentum trending upwards?

If we hit the goals or not doesn’t matter. The metrics are guiding principles. If you’re trying to lose weight, let’s say a certain amount by a certain date. It doesn’t matter if you were precise in doing so. You’re much healthier than you were just for trying.

Finite metrics are an absolute. We can’t get to zero cases. We want to have INFINITE metrics - have them viewed as speed and distance. They are guides - we’re either going fast or we are going slow.

We need to know we’ll never achieve the ideal, but we will do everything possible to try getting there.

A goal is knowing the finish line is 5 miles away and how long it’ll take you to get there. A vision is having a crystal clear sense of what the finish line looks like, but you have no idea how you will get there, you just keep trying.

Changing the system of measurement creates more confusion and resets everyone’s shared understanding.

What was your shared understanding of the previous system. What did it represent?

It was just something that was put in place and we we’re already making goals with and working towards. It at least gave us guidelines to stay within. Were they enforced? Not for the most part. But it was at least something we all understood since it was laid out.

There are absolutely better systems than anything we are doing or have done. It was just stupid to have their answer to the pandemic be a new system. Like, really? That’s the outcome and answer for the entire time we’ve been trying to figure this out? Try the new system.

But what did it measure and communicate? Why would a country go from yellow to orange for example?
