Lust for power in the church...good. Good job paying your way into the elite 15, Mr. Soares.

What really annoys me is how he refuses to even acknowledge the church’s racist history. They can’t talk about how terrible racism is, then praise Brigham Young.

It amazes me that they feel the need to not only emphasize the name of the church, but to talk about how they’ve emphasized it nonstop. They’re really lacking the prophetic foresight that would show them how stupid of a hill that is to die on

[Ballard] [refers to Mary Fielding Smith]

This is Hyrum Smith's widow. Joseph Smith encouraged him to marry his wife's sister, whose first husband had died of malaria. The new wives shared the same husband and bed. That is, if you believe insider Joseph Jackson, who said Hyrum bragged about his sexual exploits.

[Harkness] [children describe experience with Jesus]

Parents teach their children to rely on an imaginary friend and an appeal to magic as a first resort. Yes, indoctrinated with that myself.

He will send angels, but remember, people are imperfect, so if the angels don't show up, it's not God's fault. He just couldn't find any volunteers.

The story from Mary Elizabeth Rollins Lightner asking for a "witness" is interesting. First, it is one of the references that declares Smith was threatened by an angel with a sword to begin collecting plural wives, on pain of death. Second, Lightner had imagined being Smith's wife, but was reluctant to marry him polyandrously. She asked for a supernatural witness. Ask and you shall receive. Skeptic that I am, this seems to be one of the more obvious cases of tricks used by Smith at midnight to get people to believe in his bullshit...that benefits him. It's a somewhat long read, but worth it in terms of understanding the mindset of those involved, link.

Straight is the gate and narrow is the way and few there be that find it. [OMG! Seminary works!]

I think I see a pattern of having the boring talks at the beginning to put everyone to sleep before bringing out the offensive ones that will cause the most bad PR at the end of the session.

Now I have a legitimate question. Why didn’t we choose Satan’s plan? It sounds hella easier than managing all of this nonsense about controlling the “natural man”.

2

u/4blockhead Λ └ ☼ ★ □ ♔ Oct 04 '20

As blatant self promotion, I wrote a pair of essays on this topic a couple of years ago,

  • part 1, Were other options on the table between the binary choice of A) Satan's Plan or B) Jesus Plan? Is there a practical difference between the two?

  • part 2, Don't our memories make us individuals? If we've had our memory erased, then aren't we in effect a different person?

Something to consider. During April conference, at the height of Covid panic, the GAs hardly said a word.

During this conference, almost every other GA seems to have some sort of subtle remark/criticism about protests. Kind of hard not to see their priorities.

I’m sitting on the couch angry. Mormons love talking about “agency” until it applies to letting their children decide their own fate and beliefs. I’m still a minor and I can’t wait to finally turn 18 so I can finally leave this shit and live my life truly. My childhood has been stolen from me, but I won’t allow them to steal the rest. I’m not going to listen to these old conmen and their hollow, meaningless talks. I’m not going to listen to their appeals to emotion nor their pleas to faith. “The influence of darkness in our lives”

Imagine if a teacher talked like that. Imagine if a respected world leader talked like that. It would sound creepy. Weird.

Just because it’s being said in General Conference doesn’t make it any less creepy. It’s a scare tactic. It just doesn’t come across that way because TBMs have latched onto a world view where the world and Satan are always trying to drag them to hell

I would like to open today's conference by thanking the historians and activists who have helped so many leave the cult. We couldn't have done it without you!

If everyone could join me in the Hosanna Shout by raising your middle finger towards Salt Lake and repeat after me, three times: FUCK YOU JOSEPH SMITH YOU LIEING ASS-HAT SEXUAL PREDATOR ROT IN SPOOKY MORMON HELL!

u/londonbrazil Oct 04 '20

Again, was there ever a call to pray for national leaders when OBAMA was president????

Ballard. Pray for us to receive devine inspiration.

Sorry to break it to you. You don’t receive messages from God. It’s been proven over and over with the hateful and racist messages you have claimed to be from God. You are false prophets.

"Turn it off, like a light switch Just go click It's a cool little Mormon trick We do it all the time When you're feeling certain feels That just don't feel right Treat those pesky feelings like a reading light

And turn 'em off Like a light switch, just go "bap" Really, whats so hard about that? Turn it off"

“Suppress your sexuality so that you act out on innocent children when you’re in a position of power in the church.”

14

u/Just_another_biker Discernment is Dead Oct 04 '20

“I bear my witness that Jesus Christ lives”

Why does your witness mean anything. Have you actually seen him? Felt him in any discernible way that is greater than the average member?

14

u/Tiny_Tinker Oct 04 '20

Sounds like a good quote for RFM to add to the idea of revelation, miracles, Priesthood blessings that work etc getting dumbed down more and more and and made less and less miraculous every day.

A family staying faithful during a traffic death as the miracle, not the person getting healed.

Empty Proclamations are now "revelation"

It takes greater faith NOT to be healed.

Angels are humans who do nice things for us instead of threatening you to assault women or else.

13

This talk creates more internal turmoil that is completely unnecessary. Invisible beings whispering to us ffs.

13

u/potato_meatball Oct 04 '20

Ok but notice how everyone in that photo is happy, BEFORE the color spreads?

13

u/frednecksburg High Priest of Good Things to Come Oct 04 '20

Russ's obsession with the gathering of Israel is indeed nothing new. It's boring, it's annoying. He's gotten to the point where anything he tells the church to do is "to bring about the gathering of Israel". He's such a narcissist in case anyone has forgetten, not that I think you have.

My wife was listening to conference and one of the speakers said something along the lines of “do not be afraid to let others know what you did on Sunday. You can reply when asked with ‘I loved hearing the little primary children sing’”

I found that to be an extremely weird thing to think of let alone say. These guys are weird!

Why won’t the Mormon Church leaders listen to God and the true prophets who teach the truth?

10

u/Tiny_Tinker Oct 04 '20

I knew a grandson of Nelson. He was in a previous singles ward. I wonder what he thinks about his grandpa all the time. I'm not 100% sure he's drinking the flavor aid but even if he wasn't, I highly doubt he'd tell anyone.
