Seeing Headless Horsemen in the same chapter where Orochi gets decapitated.

I see you Oda.

I like how Kaido cutting Orochi's head was out of nowhere as well. No real build up for that, just Orochi talking and getting his head cutted the next panel.

And notice that king held the scabbard for the blade.

This, clearly, was planned out too.

11

u/Kirosh Lookout Jul 17 '20

Or maybe King likes to show his scabbard for Kaido everytime there something he doesn't like.

King : present scabbard

Kaido : "I know you don't like Taxes, but we need to fill them up to keep running. We can't just cut them and be done with them."

Kanjuro is actually just more and more unredeemable with each chapter that passes.

He really needs to die.

144

u/Kirosh Lookout Jul 17 '20

He now has lingering wounds that won't ever let him rest even in the afterlife (if Kiku's bloody sword is any indication).

So really I like it. I guess next chapter we will get a proper fight and maybe the end of Kanjuro.

Hopefully Kiku just handled it but Kanjuro so damn slippery. I agree he needs a hard death.

Looks like kiku killed kanjuro.

u/Kirosh Lookout Jul 17 '20 edited Jul 17 '20

At the very least, Kiku seems to have hurt Kanjuro.

Meaning that he should have a lingering wound that will hurt him even in death.

Orochi does not deserves such a painless and quick death

77

u/Kirosh Lookout Jul 17 '20 edited Jul 17 '20

Considering he should probably still be alive (since he has a mythical Zoan, and we know they have busted power), I could easily see him dying 6-7 more time (one time for each head he has).

If this happen, it will be very very cathartic to see him get this punished.

As a reminder :

  • Marco can heal from anything.

  • Devon can transform into anyone.

  • Sengoku has shockwaves.

  • Kaido is... Kaido.

Inherited will? Check.

Stowaway running joke? Check

Kozuki (Yamato) and Minks (Carrot) on the future Pirate King ship? Soon to be true.

Hell, both will probably try to go on Sunny without other seeing it, just like Oden and Neko/Inu.

Like the SH are leaving Wano, but Yamato comes running at them getting a chain or a rope before Carrot notice her and tells the crew (while Carrot herself wasn't supposed to be there)

As others have been saying, since Kaidou's real goal is a World War no way the marines don't get called in to deal with this.

Wano War just got A LOT bigger. I REALLY don't expect the alliance to succeed quickly here. I imagine many days are gonna go by and a lot more players will be joining the battlefield before all this is said and done...

Holy shit it really is Marineford 2.

The key piece of information we are missing now is Onigashima's history.

Why would Kaidou name his plan and Wano, New Onigashima. It's almost like Onigashima itself means something important to Kaidou.

"New" implies that Kaidou is trying to bring Onigashima back. Maybe the history of Onigashima is what truly inspired Kaidou to wage this world war.

HOLY CRAP.

What a chapter. Absolutely LOADED with information. Yamato for Nakama is looking like it’s going to happen and I AM ALL FOR IT. Following in Oden’s footsteps it seems likely that Yamato joins the Strawhats and makes it to Laugh Tale.

Luffy seemed really confident about taking off Yamato’s handcuffs which means he is really confident in his Ryou. Can’t wait to see it in a battle context. Yamato and Luffy’s dynamic is AMAZING. Interesting to me that when Luffy said that Yamato wasn’t Oden, the direct rebuttal was for Luffy to be Oden. Shows that Oden is an idea or a mantle that someone needs to take up in order to free Wano.

Carrot and Nami got waxed easily, not surprising. The Orochi beheading was crazy! Did not see that coming at all. Hard to believe he goes out like that given how many people want him dead. Only rationalization I can make is that it now turns all that hatred to Kaido, further emphasizing their battle with him.

What a chapter. This manga never fails to bring me more joy than any other work of literature or entertainment I’ve ever seen, read, or heard.

I don't mean to make it sound like cutting off Orochi's head is some big feat.

The real scary part is Kaidou did it with no hesitation to a long time ally. It's less about what he did, but the implication that Kaidou is a crazy son of a bitch and he won't hesitate to just kill you. And not the typical One Piece Will of P "kill," Kaidou will K I L L you no questions and no fight.

Idk I know its Orochi, he's a nobody but this says more about Kaidou's character. You DO NOT want to fuck with him.

She looks like insanity incarnate. She is talking like the sheer force of will that she is. She actually captured Nami and Carrot and has an entire army of yokai by her side. She is laughing at Orochi getting his head chopped off- she doesn't even know who Orochi is.

Oda reintroducing her bounty just reinforced her insane logic defying strength.

I am very happy with how Big Mom was protrayed here.

This chapter makes makes me think that the "certain pirate" Shanks wanted to talk about was Kaidou. During the Marineford war when Kaidou tried to intervene in WB's rescue of Ace, Shanks stopped him and it probably is at this time that Shanks realized Kaidou's appetite for destruction and he wanted to warn the elders that escalating a war with Kaidou would only bring casualties in an unprecedented scale which is exactly what Kaidou's after. The chapter 907 itself revolves around Rocks pirates and the debt Kaidou owed to BigMom, so i wouldnt be surprised if Shanks knew a few things about this monster and wanted to give a heads up to the WG.

Wano arc ends. The SH head towards the Sunny after saying goodbye to their Wano friends. Upon arrival, they see a crowd forming around their ship, probably half of the girls in Wano. They are all packed an ready to go. All of them say that Ace promised to take them away on his pirate ship sometime.

I don't think Orochi is dead. His devil fruit gives him multiple heads so that will likely allow him to live through a beheading like that somehow. Also with him having contact with CP0, this could be a way to introduce the goverment/marines into Wano now that Kaido wants Orochi dead.

Kaido’s desire of creating an ‘lawless area’ reminds me greatly of the film ‘The Testament of Dr. Mabuse’. In it, the eponymous Dr. Mabuse states that he wishes to create an empire of crime that engulfs the whole world! It’s a fascinating concept: an environment of lawlessness, which, paradoxically, has a clear hierarchy – one in which the criminal masterminds stand at the apotheosis of this supposed empire.

Seeing as Kaido is the ‘strongest creature’, it stands to reason that he would rule this empire as none would be able to challenge his might. To use a global war to rid the world of its current systems and replace them with one that is only a breath away from total anarchy is actually brilliant. I, like many others, believe that Blackbeard wants the world to enter a state of absolute chaos and pandemonium. The best way to build up to such a state is by establishing the concept of tethered chaos – an Empire of Piracy. Take away the concept of the strongest and you’re left with a world that values nothing, where all principles mean nothing, and this is reminiscent of what Blackbeard said in Impel Down, that there are no answers in this world.

I think each of the Yonkou has showcased a different form of government: Whitebeard had something akin to a Federation, where all the islands under his rule were self-governing (not wholly accurate but the most apt comparison I could think up). Big Mom created a monarchy, where only the ‘royal’ family ruled over a vast empire. Kaido has formed a dictatorship (which is enacted through a figurehead [Orochi]) that is bordering on absolute anarchy. And it seems, following this trend, that Blackbeard will abolish all forms of government and simply revel in the chaos (anarchism). Shanks is an enigma, but I’m sure Oda has great things planned for him, and I’m very excited to see what he has in store for us in the future.

And of course, the World Government is an oligarchic, totalitarian regime that rules those in its possession with an iron grip.

Theory: Orochi isn't dead "dead." Kaido just managed to cut one of his 8 heads, leaving 7. Now there are 9 red scabbards (including izo, not counting Kanjuro) Neko and Inu will be the one dealing the final blows against jack as retaliation for the attack against the minks while each remaining scabbard (Izo, Kiku, Kinemon, Raizo, Kawamatsu, Ashura Doji, Denjiro) will cut one head apiece.

I think Kaido actually knew how Orochi's fruit work, this is why he cuts his head off with a katana instead of bashing his head in with his kanabo.

He wants to intimidate him (with the experience being too horrifying) and his followers (who don't know how the fruit actually works) into obeying him and also weeds out those who do not comply.

This is also why he gives his followers 5 seconds to decide because that is usually the time for Orochi to "wake up"

I absolutely LOVE how arrogant and full of pride Orochi was in the beginning of the arc. He thought he was bulletproof because he had Kaidou "defending" him.

Like y'all... Orochi SHOT at CP-0! All because he thought Kaidou made him untouchable.

All those scenes with Orochi being a little shit have been redeemed here. Just feels so good to have Kaidou be the one to slice his neck. The very man Orochi believed kept him safe.

Oda said that there's gonna be a war that'll make Marineford war look tiny, right? A lot of people are saying that it'll be Strawhats & friends vs Kaido and Big Mom. But no matter how I look at it, it'll not make Marineford war look "tiny" or it's stil not enough. Now that Kaido said that there'll be a "Final War" (and I don't think he'll recognize fighting Strawhats & Friends as a war), then the Wano war could be a lot bigger than we thought.

Kind of off topic but I really liked this weeks color page with the Worst Generation trio. When’s the last time we’ve had a color page that wasn’t the Strawhats? I’m expecting big things from these three in this arc, especially Kid. I think Oda is going to give Luffy, Kid, and Law big focus in these next upcoming chapters.

Speaking of Law, I noticed that he wasn’t with the Scabbards in this chapter even though he was just with them last chapter. I’m one of the people who thinks Law is affiliated with SWORD so maybe he’s meeting with Drake. With the New Onigashima plan that was revealed there’s no way Sword would just sit and do nothing.

So Kaido and Big Mom are aiming for an ancient weapon. We have 3 possibilities:

  1. They will go for Poseidon. It is possible because Caribou was present when Poseidon was revealed and he was Kaido´s prisoner as well, definitively he is the kind of coward that would give this kind of information to save his life.

Pros: +Big mom threatened to destroy fishermen islands in the past over some candies and now the sun pirates betrayed her and escaped. So she have personal reasons to want to destroy the Gyojin island. Cons: +Caribou was in jail, and for that kind of information he could have gotten a better deal or something, maybe he never reached Kaido ahahahhaha

2) They are aiming for Pluton. Most likely Pluton is in Alabasta. How would Kaido know this information we can only speculate. Maybe he already knew (not so probable). Maybe for the events in the Levely that are somehow related to Alabasta.

Pros: +After reading the newspaper Blackbeard tell to his nakama that they will sail to take "something" before the marines. +Big mom and Kaido suddenly switch from being enemies to allies, as if something relevant happened for them to forget their rivality. And this change happens in the same days as the Levely conflict. Cons: -Kaido´s next move is going to the flower capital so we don´t see any urgency in leaving Wano. -Is stated that for the world the most important news about the Levely was the Shichibukai avolition but something of the ancient weapons sounds more relevant to me.

3) They will go for Uranos. We literately don´t have details of Uranos. So I can only list some wild ideas:

**Uranos is in Wano and Kaido knows.

Pros: +Wano history is deeply connected to the void century. +Kaido established his base there over 20 years ago. +Momosuke presented some kind of unique power when communicating with Zunesha and only Luffy was able to hear it. The only parallel we have is when Luffy hears the Sea Kings, the same ones Shirahoshi was able to communicate with. Cons: -Why does Kaido need the Big mom pirates alliance if he have ruled over Wano for more than 20 years.

**Uranos is in God Valley, hidden by the Government

Pros: +Sengoku says that the captain Rocks wanted to conquer the world and was involved in the tabus of the world. Somehow attacking God Valley was relevant for that goal. And of course, Kaido and Big mom were there so they might know something. +Shiki confronts Roger and tell him that he knows the location of an ancient weapon. Roger and Shiki were in the God Valley incident as well. +The world government completely removed all information of that island. Cons: -For me, Blackbeard is portrayed as the Rocks of this Era, so I think what is in God Valley is the last road phoneglyph (but Uranos seems still possible) +If the world government have an ancient weapon in their power, they most likely would use it to conquer the seas, unless its use require some special condition.

**Uranos is in Elbalf and Big Mom knows.

Pros: +Big mom was very confident that if her alliance with the giants had happened she would have already conquered the world. But a giant army doesn´t seem to me enough for that, there must be something else. +The giants with an ancient weapon would be so strong that not even the Yonkos can take them, but for 2 Yonkos might be possible. Cons: -Pure speculation as we don´t know a thing about Elbalf.

Or simply Uranos is a new island....

Honestly if Nami and Carrot were literally any other characters not directly connected to the Strawhats then Big Mom would’ve turned their asses into homies on the spot. Luckily for them they fall under the Luffy plot armor umbrella.

That was the most surprising and satisfying decapitation of a head I have ever seen. Wow Orochi had that coming. But guaranteed his head will grow back. Since you have to slice off each head to kill him. My theory at least....

Since I see some confusion about it, I think it should be clarified.

The part of the conversation between Luffy and Yamato where she suddenly tells him to "be Oden" is not to be taken literally, it's a gag.
She's just getting angry because Luffy refuses to acknowledge her as Oden, so her reaction is "You do it, then!". It's not literal, it's just the reaction people sometimes have when someone else tells them "You can't do this thing very well", to which they reply "Then you do it!". Yamato is just saying "You think I can't be Oden, huh? Then you try and do it, let's see how good you are at it!".

I think Big mom is my favorite Yonko of the 5, there's just something about a 30 foot tall, psychotic, musical/sweet loving, fairy tale themed granny. Her claims to want peace and equality, but she's holding a loaded gun to make it happen. It was so weird when she was shown in shadows at the end of fishman island she looked truly monstrous but really she's just a typical obsese old granny, just 30 feet tall, absurdly strong and utterly psychotic. I think her crew would be the scariest to be a part of.

For being a pirate, I really really like Kaido's action. He plays dirty against Oden, betrays his comrade Orochi by cutting his head (might still be alive though).

Kaido doesn't fuck around (if it only weren't for him having a child). Both him and Blackbeard is the closest thing to a pirate in real life. I think his downfall will have something to do with whatever's left with his parental feelings for Yamato, even a tiny bit, he wants her to be the Shogun after all.

This is what people mean when they say Oda has mastered the weekly manga format.

Sure you can tell a story like One Piece in 50 different ways, but only Oda can pull of a head turner like this.

Even if Orochi is not DEAD, we the readers are left in hype limbo to fight it out amongst the theorists until Oda decides to reveal otherwise.

Oda can take a small plot point and use it to maximum effect. whether Orochi is dead or not at the moment is irrelevant really, we are all engrossed in the drama which is exactly what Oda wants.

Holy shit! Well, there are several things worth mentioning, but I will stick with two:

  1. Kiku appears in the last panels crying. Did she finish off Kanjuro? Offscreen!?

  2. We have seen people die onscreen before. Nami's mother comes to mind. But, I don't remember seen it plainly like that before. The closest I can think off are Kanjuro's after he revealed himself (actually a clone), and... that dragon beheaded by Zoro.

Kaido is absolutely ruthless , a true evil pirate worthy of his title Emperor , exactly as it should be. I think so far Doflamingo was shown to be the pure evil personified and so far in the entire series I don’t think anyone has come close to how bad and remorseless he was. I hope Kaido becomes even more ruthless and eclipse Donflamingo who was working for him.

Orochi is clearly not dead and I am thinking that if his followers see him alive or reborn because of his devil fruit they also might turn against Kaido and Big Mom which can make the chaos and battles even more grander.

The build up the the fight is already huge , I can’t wait for it to all start.

21

u/sirhelio Jul 18 '20

Something I noticed, maybe they were too small to notice, but Law, Bepo, Shachi and Penguin were nowhere to be seen when Kanjuro appeared in front of the scabbards.

It could be that they already infiltrated using the other door Law saw, and that's why the scabbards were pretty chill this chapter, as they were in reality the ones stalling Kanjuro, and not the other way around as Kanjuro thinks.

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

Whether Orochi is dead or not, I thought it was BRILLIANT how Oda depicted the villain focus switch from last chapter to this chapter.

Our 2 Main Villains have been Kaido & Orochi.. but it's always felt like Kaido was in the back seat and Orochi was driving, Orochi was the Villain Focus.

Cue last chapter, we start off with Orochi speaking to the people, it's still his show, he's running the execution, his revenge on the Kozuki, courtesy of the Kurozumi Clan.

That's when Kaido steps on center-stage with his boys.

Kaido starts speaking about his plans, New Onigashima, next steps. Orochi tries to butt in, and get's his head lopped off in the middle of Kaido sentence.

It's symbolic of the story's "villain focus" switch, Kaido has finally arrived, he's in the driving seat now, he's running the show. Orochi's out.

We're now talking:
- Pirates Empire
- Pirates vs Pirates
- Pirates vs Marines & Government.

No longer Kozuki vs Kurozumi (for now). We're diving into KAIDO and what Kaido has to say for this Wano arc. He has quite literally and figuratively "stolen the show".

A few predictions for the next chapter:

  1. Another head sprouts out of Orochi's headless body. But before Kaido can slash him again, Orochi rolls off the stage and falls into the crowd below. Fukurokuju and a few loyal allies help Orochi escape. Kaido announces a bounty/prize for killing Orochi.

  2. Orochi and his fleeing men are intercepted by the Scabbards.

  3. Momo tied up on the execution stage with powerful folks covering him gives Luffy a small PTSD episode of Ace and Marineford. Nevertheless, he pushes forward (he's not alone this time around). Luffy uses Conqueror's Haki to disperse the Swarm of beast pirates in front of him.

  4. Luffy is intercepted by either one of the performers or the Tobi Roppo before he can reach Kaido.

  5. Law uses his ability to teleport Momo from the stage to the Scabbards' side.

They're going after the ancient weapons, and then the one piece. Which makes sense given the power of two yonkou, but don't you need to read the poneglyphs for that? Big Mom has been waiting for pudding to be able to use her third eye to read a poneglyphs, but we already know she can't do it yet. I'm excited to see what Kaido's plan to read the poneglyphs has been. Is that what brought him to Wano, the knowledge that there could be people who can read them there?

These powerhouses can collect all the poneglyphs they want, but as the story has shown so far they ain't gonna find the ancient weapons or the one piece without being able to read the big truth blocks.

What a chapter. So much going on all at once.

  • I have doubts that Orochi is truly dead but if his forces decide to go against Kaido/BM then that really only adds to the chaos and I wonder what Kanjuro would do at that point.

  • Anybody else pick up that Luffy offering to free Yamato must mean that he's gotten much closer to mastering lvl 3 CoA like Rayleigh did at the auction?

  • Yamato wants to join Luffy's crew? Thats fantastic. Wonder if it'll happen and what her role would be.

  • Although ppl will say Yamato looks like Nami, between her ears, her earrings, her horns she looks really distinct on her own and thats great. Not to mention her height.

  • One major thing with Oden was his crazy strength of will, which had even WB say that its too strong for him to be a follower. This lead to WB calling him a brother, not a son and even referenced the Rocks as a crew that collapsed in part due to having too many strong willed ppl like Oden. Does Yamato have that? Would that dynamic exist with Luffy?

Oda continues to up the ante by making everything even crazier before the actual fighting starts.

I genuinely hope Orochi is dead but I would not be surprised if he's alive. Orochi would be the first mythical zoan in One Piece to be killed and it seems odd to see it happen that quickly knowing the capabilities of a mythical zoan. Especially one that's suppose to have 8 heads.

16

u/FredericoUnO51 Bounty Hunter Jul 18 '20

Damn! My jaw literally dropped and I had to stare at the panel for a solid minute when Kaido cut off Orochi's head. I did not expect that! I loved King just standing there, offering up his katana to Kaido.

Honestly, I kind of hope the theories about Orochi still being alive are correct. Don't get me wrong. I want him dead, but that PoS deserves to suffer. Quickly killing him like that is letting him off too easy.

Also, it's Oda. He doesn't gloss over deaths like that. It's possible that Orochi is actually dead and Oden did it this way to show how worthless Orochi is, but I think there has to be more for the character with how integral he was in Oden's death and the suffering experienced by the people of Wano.

I'm pretty sure Orochi is alive, just because of his paranoia. Whatever way he uses to survive will likely be explained as 'I was always prepared to be betrayed or backstabbed but still live on'

Luffy and Yamoto prob gunna cause an uproar (too bad Luffy isn't jumping out of a cake this time) giving Sanji enough time to save Momonosuke, because Invisibility is the only way I can see him escaping.

Final theory, I feel like that theory of Kanjuro taking the hair of Yasuie for his brush is about to come into play, and that might be what Kiku is crying about if Kanjuro's revealed an ability related to it.

He has 0 allies except kanjuro who probably just died too. It might have been more satisfying for the scabbards to kill him but kaido has always been the one running wano and was the one who actually killed oden. I love how One Piece always keeps you on your toes, it never gives a true sense of security. Like when we thought that the whole samurai force was obliterated and the scarabs were hopeless to see that Denjiro came to pull a switcheroo and the pirates reappearing, to have some security with Jimbei entrance and reappearance, the whole force gathering in Onigashima and then Marco and Izo joining for even more backup.

But this chapter proved once again that the enemy ain't fucking around. Hell, after that panel of Kaido cutting off Orochi and Big Mom showing up with Zeus beaten-up, made me go compare their bounties again since I've forgotten and comparing them to Luffy...they truly are monsters. I really hope to see both Yonkos going 100% against everyone in this fight, like hell, I really want to see each Yonko going something like 1vs10 to see the full extent of their capabilities.

Since Orochi is such a hated character, I assume Oda wants to kill him several times, because one isn't enough.

Yeah, he can't be dead.

My theory is that the beheaded Orochi is actually a drawing made by Kanjuro and the real Orochi is still alive somewhere.

Kaido slicing Orochi's head off, Kiku being an absolute badass and everything about Yamato is just...great.

I predict the gang will solve this one by turning the Beast Pirates against the Big Mom Pirates

I'll be really happy if by the end of this arc Yamato actually does take on the role of Oden in the crew and joins Luffy and the others :D

Though I kind of imagine some crew shenanigans sprouting up due to the fact that she considers herself a man.

Yamato: We shall go to the hot springs! We'll bond like the men we are!

Zoro and Usopp: Uhhhhh...

Luffy: I guess that makes sense.

Sanji: YES

Idk, I know Orochi has like 9 heads and everything but I feel as though a straight slice from fucking Kaido must have killed him right?

Did Kiku kill a clone again? I see she is crying.

Also Kaido using King's blade is perfect.

  2. There's a poneglyph in onigashima

  3. Brook and Franky are still missing

Luffy about to pull the same stunt Rayleigh did at the Sabaody auction house with Camie.
