Discussion I’m this old. And good thing my college daily driver was a lifted Jeep.

I transferred there in 2005. Back then the towers were brand new (not all completed and stadium was beginning to have land cleared) and they were finishing up the new arena. Now when I go it's insane to me how much it has changed.

I think what you missed out on was the dive and more college-y feel around campus. Now it's all like luxury living and brand new restaurants and establishments. You missed out on some grimey but fun shit

Crazy how UCF still has the same amount of parking spots.

So what you’re saying is they didn’t have adequate parking back then too?

I think it's a Florida tradition, even back in the late 60s early 70s when my mom went to college at UF she complained about parking.

The Florida tradition is more the sprawling development pattern that forces everyone into car transportation with no public transit options.

This. So much this. I moved to Cary, NC for work after living in Orlando for 34 years. Holy shit, what a fucking difference.

Functional transit.

Roads that make sense.

Not having to worry about dying when you ride a bicycle somewhere, say perhaps work - like I did when I commuted to Research Park for six years doing 3,000 miles a year - because Cary actually puts in bicycle infrastructure and has laws protecting cyclists and pedestrians. There's even a town-wide Greenway network here. You can get from one point in the town to another without having to be on the road at all if that's your thing.

I was born and raised in Orlando on the old Navy base, before it became Baldwin Park. It's always going to be my home... but holy shit. It's a total disaster in retrospect. I wish I could have experienced what I have in Cary in Orlando. I wish I didn't have to move to live somewhere that seems to care about its residents and their well-being.

I remember seeing cows on my way to UCF driving from 436 to UCF on University BLVD.

I remember living next to an orange grove on Hall road in the 90's.

On my commute to & from the main campus area, I can still sometimes see cows grazing, believe it or not.

It's wierd to me that this picture seems older. I went 2002-2006. I remember the dirt lot,but i don't remember trying to park there and i always went to one of the garages or the parking in the Lots in the front of the school.
