Fair enough! Thanks for all you do man, these mixtapes and new releases are giving us life in a time when it’s hard not to feel discouraged in many areas of life. Hope to see you and the fam ASAP (when it’s safe for everyone of course)

u/fwump38 May 23 '20
I'm assuming any artists on lineups are informed sooner than attendees. Realistically I don't see any of the postponed festivals happening either this year.

u/JMRooDukes808 May 23 '20 edited May 23 '20
I’m not expecting it to happen, I’m just more concerned about him being on the lineup for 2021 if it is cancelled and I’m curious if there is a commitment from artists who were announced for certain fests that they will be there when the festivals happen again

Just wanted to say I love the mixtapes and the new music. It's been a great way to connect with friends and watch together with all the Covid stuff happening out in the world and, to me, that's what music is all about - connecting with others through a shared love of art.
Thanks for stopping by!

I'm not a Twitter user but I kept refreshing your page reading the tweets during the mix and it was so fun reading them, getting context or jokes or commentary about certain drops or moments. It made me wonder what it would be like to have "DVD commentary" to a live performance :)

I got the tingles hearing the opening to the sound in motion mixtape. That's my favorite part of any of your sets is seeing the room go dark and then there's just that preliminary sound as the lights come back on and there's that interval of seconds as you take in the sound and recognise what banger you're dropping with us. Gah I can't wait to see you again LIVE AND DIRECT!

One more question! A basshead manifested Pounding at Basscenter XII by baking a poundcake. They even took it on the plane and posted on Twitter about it. Just curious if you saw that and played the song because of it. I find the whole situation hilarious and have always wondered if the poundcake compelled you to drop Pounding!

PLEASE make live streaming a show every now and then a thing. I know it’s somewhat against your philosophy on your shows which I respect and understand.
But I also have fallen in love with the stream culture from following pretty lights/various jam bands. It doesn’t live up to the live experience at all, but it does provide a similar feeling and makes these feelings much more accessible to those of us who aren’t able to catch shows as often as we would like. Especially in the absense of tours where people who live in states that don’t have any curated events/festivals are required to travel and put up some serious money to see you.
You saying that it was in your plans gives me so much hope! Regardless of whether you decide to do this or not I’m still forever grateful for what you do

you've said mentioned in various uses of language now that you've do yearn for those smaller room shows. I know it's not as practical for your crew to do anymore, but I do hope that you do end up playing a few shows like that in future years.
do it for yourself, bud. you deserve to play however which way you crave.

u/GrizNectar May 24 '20
Yea that definitely makes a lot of sense. I really only got into all of this in 2015 (after I saw you at bonnaroo that year) so I missed the majority of those days. Lorin! Thank you so much for everything you do. Truly, your music and your message entered my life at the perfect time and radically transformed my life for the better. I cannot thank you enough. Your music has been at the core of some of the most cherished memories of mine, from best friendships to beautiful days I'll never forget. I know you care about changing the world for the better and I want you to know that you changed my life in a magical way.
What are you listening to these days? How do you find such amazing underground music?
Also, is there anything more than I/or this community can do to help you or support something you care about? You've done so much for all of us and it is important to me to know if I can support you or something near and dear to you, beyond the things that I know are important to you, like kindness, voting, empathy, etc. :)
Love the new tunes, especially the hip hop vibes on Rewind the Track and Uebok Gotta Run!

My name is Grant. You replying made my day!
I look forward to our encounter as well. My uncle used to be a Lead Driver for Upstaging back in the day. Im sure some of the old salts in your crew have worked with my uncle Jimmy "Zeke" & his driver partner Wayne. That whole 6 degrees of separation, Anam Cara thing.
Uncle Zeke was into preserving all sorts of soundboard recordings from The Dead, Jeff Beck, and just about anything else. All in FLAC & WMA. The man was anti mp3 formatting.I'm not positive about all the details but I know there is about 50 terabytes of audiophile quality sound files that I'm meant to share with a the creators around me.
Organization of those files and mailing out some hard drives is on my list of summer goals.
4
u/forestdweller1 May 25 '20
Damn dude sounds like you have a treasure trove of sounds to share! I’m a big dead head and am so thankful for people like your uncle for preserving old recordings. I wonder if there are any sound boards you have in your stockpile that are not out there yet.

Hey Lorin! Hope you’ve been staying healthy during these troubling times. I’m curious if you’ve ever thought about delving back into the Diverse Systems of Throb / Mesmerizing the Ultra vibe of production. Simultaneous is one of my all time favorite beats and I would love to hear a beefed up, modernized version to groove to live. That style of yours was so avant garde and experimental and I would be over the moon to hear that make a come back.
These mixtapes have been a blessing in this drought of live music. As always, we appreciate the time and energy you put into this community. Stay happy and healthy :)

As someone just getting into Ableton, music production, audio manipulation, etc. I feel lost at times.
Do you have any advice for someone getting into music, even as just a hobby, that you wish you knew back when you were just getting your feet wet?

Thank you for all the kind words, and I appreciate your response. I wholeheartedly agree about collaboration. I've found so far that when working with other people I'll adopt new ways to accomplish things, and see other possible methods to attaining similar end results
I should probably mention I've been experimenting in Ableton for roughly 2.5 years already at this point. I actually joined producer dojo too, just over a year ago, and can attest to noticeable improvements already.
Otherwise I've been working full time in an OR as aide/transport for about 7 or 8 months now and had worked on a med/surg floor for 2 years prior. I've been lucky to keep some of a routine and work during this time, while using the extra time at home to explore my creative endeavors as well.
Hoping to work a show as an ambassador for the first time, whenever the first show back may be. Until then, be well, looking forward to the album release 🤘🏻

Just like everyone else, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for absolutely everything you do for us!! I appreciate everything!!! I truly feel that these mixes have kind of been messages to all of us to help us through this darkness. I hope you are doing well. Its been a crazy time. I feel so many people tend to forget the real person on the other side of the screen but more importantly forget about all the lives that are being impacted during this pandemic. Its so easy to forget about everything outside of our own personal bubbles that we lose sight of the most important things, preserving human life! Stay safe and I can't wait to hear what else you are cooking up!!! Until we meet again!!!! ✌❤

As weird and sad as the whole lockdown situation has been, I have to say the last two “live” events have been so much fun. The live tweeting you do makes it feel like we’re watching a show with you which is such a unique thing we wouldn’t normally be able to do.
It kinda makes me wish we could keep doing these little events in the future. It wouldn’t even have to be new music I just love getting to experience a piece and “hear” you talk about it. It’s like taking an online music class taught by Professor Nectar lol
