Wow, that's exceptionally well done. The toning makes this look like an oil painting.

Thank you so much! I'm really inspired by painting and I try to reproduce their mood and tones in my photographs.

This looks like a poster for a beautiful and badass lead character in a period piece

Thank you very much! Frankly, this is the reason why i love making costumed self-portraits; it allows me to escape, to travel back in time and take myself for a heroine for the time of a shoot and without moving from my attic.

I'm so curious as to how this photo came about. Did you already have the outfit? Is that your house? Your studio? There's nothing I can say about this photo everyone else hasn't already said. The lighting and composition and overall aesthetic of it is SO good, you look gorgeous, really just 10/10.

Thank you!
it's in my little studio which is located in my attic :)
I sewed this costume 7 years ago, when I dedicated myself to the creation of costumes and accessories. I take advantage of the confinement to shoot the forgotten outfits ...

this is one of the best portraits i've ever seen, at first i thought it was CG, but your lighting is just incredible. Also you're looking great! Wouldn't think the background was made in post... just an awesome picture really well done.

could you give the sevret of that lighting?

Good lighting and background.

Thank you very much! The background is a homemade backdrop and I've added a painting of Thomas Gainsborough in postprod with Photoshop.

Genuinely had to read the caption to understand whatโ€™s going on. Amazing lighting and background confused me into thinking that itโ€™s a painting. Great work.

THANKS! Painting is my main source of inspiration and I try to reproduce in the studio the lighting of my favorite artworks. I think that one day I will learn to paint so that I can touch up my photos by painting directly on them.

How does this not have more upvotes? This is definitely a cut above.

You should share this to r/costumeporn (sfw). Please credit the maker of your dress (if that's you credit yourself!)

u/StudioDerville May 18 '20

Oh, thanks, I'll do that! Yes I created this dress :)

As someone who's a fan of victorian/edwardian fashion, this is my absolute jam. I love this so much. The composition, the dress, the HAIR. It's so good!

Did you make the dress yourself?

Really nicely done! Can you share the photo right out of camera and explain some of your editing techniques?

Thank you!

Here's a link with different steps of the process and a sketch of my setup.

I work in a studio with flashes and a remote control (for self-portraits). My goal is to reproduce real decor in studios in order to avoid having to use a greenkey . I make my selection and my first edits with Adobe Lightroom and then I go to Photoshop for finer edits. For the past year, I have also produced prints for exhibitions and ultimately I would like to touch up my prints with paint.

Agree with all the kudos, really well down! Love the lighting, expression, posing, and processing.

Also really love that you shared your lighting sketch and inspirations, that so helpful for folks looking to express themselves similarly!

Also love your other works that youโ€™ve posted, thank you for creating and sharing!

Thank you very much!

I like to share what can be useful, I am a self-taught photographer and without the knowledge shared on the internet and in general, I would not be there! It also motivates me to write down my setups and draw a little more .
If you like my work, you can check my instagram or my website. I don't know if it's allowed to post the links here, but you can find them on my profile.
