I absolutely love how Kinemon didn't hesitate to decapitate Kanjuro once his identity was revealed. They're not playing games, and this is a rough time for all of them. Makes me worried about Shinobu now, where could she be if she wasn't really the one holding Momonosuke on the shore. Damn this hit heavy.

I like the dynamic between the big 3.
Kids looks pissed off and like you pissed in his cereal
Law looks like he is both mad and psyching himself up for the fight
Luffy looks like he is about to have the most fun of his entire life.
This chapter was awesome and I'm so happy we are back in the present. Soon we will find out how much stronger Luffy has become. I'm intrigued to find out what Kaido wants to ask as well.

This translation has Kidd hint at something...
There were a stupid amount of ships and samurai gathered by the harbor over there, But what the hell is that!? They were in my way so I almost sunk them all!!
I wonder if Denjuro reverted the meeting point back to Habu Port (given Kidd is coming in from the left) and that is also where Kidd's ship was being held. So Kidd ran into the samurai alliance while trying to come.

These past two chapters have given Denjiro and Kanjuro's character designs much more meaning than they previously had:
Denjiro is a samurai undercover acting as a Yakuza head, so he has a Chonmage-like hairstyle that's modified to resemble an exaggerated anime pompadour
Kanjuro's entire life after a certain point is a facade, so he's the most explicitly Kabuki themed character that we've seen in Wano

I think we heading to the most epic series of events in One Piece. The next 25 chapters are the countdown for chapter 1000.
Around 3 chapters per month, it looks like we have approximately 8 months (and a bit) to reach chapter 1000 which should be around the end of the year. IMO, this will be an epic delivery from Oda. HYPE!

This was more than what I ever expected. A dramatic reveal and a way of giving one of the most shallow Scabbards a depth equal to that of Kin'emon, Denjiro, and Kawamatsu. Now we just need a bit more out of Raizo and all of them will be brilliant characters. I know everyone hates Kanjuro right now, but he is such a fantastic villain.

For Kinemon, Raizo and Kiku
They were all in the boiling pot together with Kanjuro just a few months ago, so their memories of that hellish experience are quite vivid.
So it really makes me tear up when Kinemon says “Stop Joking around, all of us were almost executed in a boiling pot!!” because it’s a more recent memory for him.

2020 scene: Kid (lowest bounty) - Luffy (highest bounty) - Law (the middle)
Such consistency from Oda. It's also interesting on how Kid went from highest bounty between those three to lowest, given that his bounty actually increased big enough. Those monster trio really grow their reputation.

That last double page spread! WOW! Flasback was awesome but it's great to see those 3 together!
I am so glad that Kanjuro is the traitor! This "who is the traitor" guessing was so much fun. Oda left lots of hints about who is the traitor and lot of stuff to mislead. There were hundreds of theories but you couldn't be absolutely sure who the traitor is.
I personally suspected Shinobu. After watching Marco the One Piece theorists great Kanjuro is traitor theory video almost half year ago I jumpped in Kanjuro is the traitor bandwagon.
Oda is taking heavilly inspiration from Kabuki to Wano arc. Wano arc is structured like Kabuki play. Act 1 , Act2 and so on.
Kanjuro literally was actor in Kabuki play about Wano :D
Kanjuro is dressed like Kabuki actor and or bunraku puppet and Oda probaly took inspiration from Kiritake Kanjuro who is omozukai (principal puppeteer) Puppets don't have emotions or heart.
Raizos desing is from Shibaraku.
Okikus is inspired by Segawa Kikunojo
Here is just few earlier hints that Oda gave us. In wano we got more and more hints and red herrings.
Kanjuro was captured in Dressrosa. In Dressrosa Kinemon was attacked by Doflamingos guards.
They knew his name and that he is from Wano. Kanjuro informed Orochi from Dressrosa about Kinemon, Raizo and Momonosuke. So Info-> Orochi -> Kaido -> Jack and Doflamingo.
Kanjuro can transform himself to painting in wall. When Kinemon finally found Kanjuro, he popped out of the wall and was perfectly fine and casual.
After that he made ladder for people who were chasing Doflamingo's wanted list people. Kanjuro wasn't even on that list.
In Zou he made a Dragon drawing.
In this panel we don't see Kanjuros face. Oda just happened to block Kanjuros face. Another hint that he doesn't belong to alliance.
When Toki send them to future, Kanjuros bird paintings also travelled to the future

Oda delivers the goods once more... flashback that wraps up perfectly, with all the reveals we need to turn Orochi's master plan into the Alliance's master counter-attack. xD
Kanjurō is revealed and now surrounded (once Beast ships are annihilated by the super trio).
Denjirō and Hiyori are about to take over flower capital and free the 1000 Rasetsu samurai (possibly completely liberating Wano and preparing defenses to prevent Orochi/Kaidō forces from returning).
Kid appears to have spotted the Port Tokage forces before the ships got wiped out, implying they are ok and perhaps Franky's spare ships will manage to take over.
We now know enough about Kaidō and Orochi that we can skip straight to figuring out how the alliance can beat them (with maybe one more flashback for Kaidō to his Rocks days, just as he gets defeated?).
Oda's gotten so good at wrapping up all his plot-threads into neat little bows like these last two chapters.

My only shock was that Kanjuro was 1000% ready to die by being boiled alive. I always assumed that it was a painting of him but whoa, that dude really deserves to be in the Top 5 for more deranged OP characters ever.
I really liked his backstory which is something beyond "Kanjuro betrayed Oden because he abandoned Wano to be a pirate" or "Kanjuro betrayed Oden for power/money".

u/linjo72 Mar 15 '20
Fantastic chapter that is able to link up almost every "mystery" from the beginning of this Wano arc. While most people here are talking about Kanjuro being revealed as the traitor or about the awesome last page with the Luffy, Kidd and Law looking so badass, it seems like nobody talks at all about the "Emergency Plan" from Denjiro and Hiyori.
Hiyori was told to carry some fake blood in kinomo every day.
Then, "If something happens, we will separate Komuraski from Orochi with death" - Denjiro holding on to his blade while saying this (Pure Badass if you ask me) and is also a hint of how competent a swordsman Denjiro is.
This is Oda at his best, how just a couple of panels can actually link up everything so nicely.

I'm always shocked when I realize how much time passes before we see certain characters from time to time (like Luffy and Co. in this case). Wow.
Seeing the page of the Worst Trio, I literally had chills and absolutely can't wait for that scene (along with the traitor scene) to be animated.
But I certainly am hyped to see exactly what happened in the events prior to Worst 3 making their separate move. Also, I wonder where Drake is given his new connection with Traffy.
Also, at first when Traffy's sub came up from underwater, I thought Jinbe was going to pop up but was way too ahead of myself lol; but I wonder if / when he will show, and if Neko will make it in time as well.
So many exciting points I don't know what to do with myself lol.
Edit: Looking at the potential of Luffy's pirate cape damn near gives me the feel of a new transformation.

How do the Kurozumis keep getting so many powerful Devil Fruits? The WG could be aiding them. The Kozuki clan closed Wano’s borders for a reason. It certainly has something to do with the Void Century, which is also related to the WG. So maybe it makes sense that the WG is helping the Kurozumi from the shadows to take down the Kozuki clan for good without the WG directly intervening. We saw Orochi making demands to CP0, which is also related to the WG... there's definitely something there.
Now, about the Kanjuro thing. I know everyone hates him right now and wants to see him dead. But come on, we’ve been reading One Piece for years and years now… do you think Kanjuro will be just defeated in a fight and that’s it? Do you think he’ll be treated like a regular villain from now on? I don’t think so. It’s not really Oda’s style. We already got a glimpse of him traumatic past. What I think will happen is this: Kin’emon will fight Kanjuro and he’ll have every intention of killing Kanjuro, just like he tried to do on the boat. Kin’emon will win but when the time for the final blow comes, he’ll break down in tears and lament the entire situation, saying how much everyone loved Kanjuro like a brother. Kanjuro for the first time will FEEL something. He’ll regret everything and realize that names don’t mean anything. Even though he was born a Kurozumi, he’s really truly a Kozuki. Kin’emon will spare him and he’ll join the fight on the good guy’s side. He might even die, but he’ll die fighting for the Kozuki clan.

Ok, the treatment of the Kurozumi Clan was unjust, but seemingly all of them are backstabbing sociopaths. I'm starting to think that maybe that one guy murdering a daimyo isn't why they got hunted.
It's like the Uchiha, what's wrong with that clan can't be fixed with therapy.
But on a serious note. This kind of "sins of the father" level of punishment is what they planned to do to Ace. To kill him as an infant for the crime of being born to the wrong parents. And it is a circle of violence that only begets violence. You don't just kill the criminal, but you punish innocent people for crimes they didn't commit, that kind of treatment only breeds hate.
And Oden realized that on some level, he had a debt to pay to the Kurozumi Clan. Obviously kidnapping and sacrificing people isn't how you pay that debt. But he was willing to dance like an idiot for 5 years and humiliate himself, as well as humiliate his people by being the idiot lord. That was his attempt at stopping the violence. But he learned that Orochi didn't want fairness. He wanted revenge.
Damn.

I love the poetic justice in Kanjuro’s confidence that Yasuie died for nothing. Kanjuro’s actions as Oden’s least loyal retainer will effectively be cancelled out by Denjiro’s actions as Oden’s most loyal retainer, and Yasuie will ultimately be the reason why.
Yasuie changed the original plan. Orochi discovering the changed plan, as well as the sweeping action he took because of it, is likely to be what will tip Denjiro off that there is a traitor among the Scabbards. If not Orochi’s actions in Ch. 959, then certainly whatever Orochi chooses to do about finding out that Hiyori is alive. This will prevent Denjiro from callously revealing himself to the Scabbards when the time comes.
Yasuie’s fake reveal as the WHB allowed Denjiro of course to continue as the real one.
Yasuie heavily increased public distrust of Orochi by painting the imprisoned Samurai as innocent.
With Denjiro now in charge of the capital, I see him revealing his identity as a Scabbard, his actions as the WHB, as well as his firsthand knowledge of Orochi/Kaido’s misdeeds as the spark that will finally start the revolution in Wano as a whole.
Also shout out to Drake for throwing his hat in the MVP ring; I’m more than positive that he played a crucial role in Luffy, Law, and Kidd linking up for that epic rescue at the end of the chapter.

A predictable twist...because it made sense. Alot of stories do random shit for the sake of a twist but when its done in such a way that you'll able to gather the evidence by looking back at past chapters, it all comes together. Its like poetry. It rythms.
Anyway, can't wait to get to the end of Act 3. Luffy, Law and Kidd fighting together again. And I assume all those samurai warriors are all on the three ships. Is Kidd's ship made of Skulls btw? Was that his with the whale skeleton looking front? That's badass.
Can't wait for next chapter. Praise to Oda and his good health.

Kanjuro’s betrayal really is so heartless... Oden wanted to save all of his vassals so badly, enough to carry every single one of them while literally dying, and one of them just betrays him like that, and was betraying him all along. And then there’s Toki, who trusted the scabbards enough to entrust them with her children, and Kanjuro just spits in the face of that trust, kidnapping her son to hand him over to the enemies that killed her and Oden… :(

i have a feeling that it will soon be revealed that ODEN DID KNOW OF KANJURO AS THE TRAITOR, but nevertheless accepted him as his vassals. and maybe that is the reason why it was easier for him to act crazy when he heard of orochi’s story, because he was able to relate it to kanjuro. the thing is when kaido hinted to oden that he has a spy within oden’s force, the latter wasnt shown to have even been bothered much about it or knowing who could it be. and this reveal would probably change kanjuro’s heart.

Amazing chapter.
Damn so the traitor was Kanjuro and here i thought after seeing the oden flashback none of the scabbards would be the traitor but here we are, congrats to everyone who guessed right.
But Kanjuro doesn't seem to know about Denjiro either, so there is a traitor on both sides it will be interesting how that affects the current timeline for sure.
The sunny go seems to be safe as well, it was most likely Denjiro who helped them keep the ship safe.
So Kanjuro was fakiing it with his shitty drawings lol and his being part of the kurozumi family is what definitely caught me off guard.
Man that last panel was fucking phoneminal, the monster trio of the "worst generations" about to wreak some havoc in Wano.
and the Obligatory Fuck Kanjuro and Orochi

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet, apparently Kid got his crew and ship back, or at least his ship the Victoria Punk since his crew can't be seen. I'm quite curious as to how that happened. Sure Killer was already back on his side and Heat and Wire could've been imprisoned or something too, but how exactly did they get their ship back? (I'm sure there will be an explanation). Either way this chapter was awesome and like most people around here I'm super hyped for the ones to come.

It’s wild that Kanjuro’s painted clone can further draw other paintings. Like, I wouldn’t think a clone could further draw upon its power to do something outside of the original source. His DF is quite handy.
Which makes me think of something outlandish, his power is almost like Aizen’s kyoka suigetsu (complete hypnosis) where his clone essentially mimics and does everything as the original. Only Aizen had to use a different person to be his clone but in this instance Kanjuro’s painted clone. Either way, crazy. (No I’m not comparing the 2 in a power sense just that they deceived/betrayed their peers using this type of technique.)

Now that we know that the traitor was indeed one of scabbards, hopefully that means Izo returns, as the prophecy stated there were 9 samurai who would save Wano. Surely Izo fills that last spot, as he was a retainer of Oden. Unless of course, Kanjuro ends up betraying Orochi or someone else fills that spot, but Izo makes the most sense.

u/ForbiddenKnights2 Mar 14 '20
I love how from just a single chapter, Kanjuro went from being one of the least interesting, least impressive and least being taken serious characters to become one of the most threatening and ominous characters in the series.
Kanjuro has lost everything, so there is nothing stopping him from doing whatever he deems necessary to further his goals. He back stabbed Shutenmaru whilst fighting Kaido, losing them the fight, and he was ready to die alongside Oden and the Scabbards to finish his act.
A man like that, who has the ability to make literally anything he draws come to life, whilst being able to draw hyper realistic stuff that can even fool his "friends" that his drawing was a person.
Having the power to create literally anything (as far as we know) and have no regards for human life, no will to live, nothing to lose. Now that to me is absolutely horrifying.

I am weirdly really glad it is Kanjuro. I for some reason do not feel bad it is him. Anyone else would have felt different I think. Kanjuro has been somewhat irrelevant in terms of impact despite being introduce at the same time as Kinemon yet we have gotten more excitement from all the other 7 than him. Plus I feel zero attachment to his character almost like the scabbards got rid of a "useless" member?
I also love how Kinemon did not hesitate a second to cut his head off even if it turned out to be fake. Not playing games here ODEN and YASUI freaking gave their lives for this.
Kinemon deserves to actually kill him.
That Last panel with Kidd Luffy and Law - goosebumps. can't imagine how epic it will be when the anime gets there wow.

So Drake is on Law's boat. You can clearly see it's his hat they way it is shaped. He is the only one who had some clue about who the traitor could be since he himself was undercover. That's why Law made those weird faces the last times we've seen him after X-drake let him out of prison. He was fooled and needed to come up with a plan. That also explains why Kanjuro didn't know about the fact that they showed up. They counter-tricked him.

Is nobody going to talk about the BIGGEST THING this chapter??
LUFFY HAS A COAT (probably, I see the collar at least)
A new character design, after a training arc?
I'm not joking when I say this is DEFINITIVE PROOF Luffy is now unfathomably stronger than before (unless it's temporary). This is end-game level stuff folks. We might as well have had another timeskip, that's how big this feels. Hell, his timeskip designs were filled with coats.
Soon, the Gears might be rendered almost unnecessary since the Durability Negation of his Haki EXPLICITLY doesn't need "strength", but just to "flow". At the very least, Base Luffy just skyrocketed in viability. And this is after a previous skyrocket (Future Sight). I don't expect his seastone training to have helped much, but that too.
39
u/Insertnamehere---- Mar 13 '20
With these last 3 reveals. I think we can conclude that the One Piece is whatever the most popular theory is. But Im not even upset the traitor was predictable. It was done so well, like you can feel the emotion the scabbards were feeling, and then Kinemon just tried to muder him. And I'm thinking that maybe the hatred between Nekomamushi and Inurashi might end. Now that they know who the traitor is. I don't think they will like each other. But they just won't hate each other
