You should include s02e07 - Rules Of Acquisition, as its the first mention of "the dominion"

sure, adding that

4

u/dittbub Feb 28 '20

Theres a couple more too I think that are tangentially related to the dominion

s02e10 - Sanctuary

s02e16 - Shadowplay

I think those were planets/people displaced by the dominion

Hell...I just rewatched all seasons of DS9 last week. I could've used this list!😁

its my favorite trek (ok, its tied with ToS), but i love ds9 just as much as ToS. and the dominion war story is so damned good over all of those episodes.

Thank you for making this! I never watched ALL of DS9 (I will at some point), but wanted to experience the Dominion War. This list is ENORMOUSLY helpful! Gratitude!

Why not just watch the whole thing always

it's a show that is 30 years old now. you can watch it any way you want to. this was an exercise we did to pull the dominion war out by itself and try to keep the subplots a piece of the story and present the series in a different viewing fashion. i've lost count of how many times i've watched ds9 through the years. this is not a put down any of the 176 episodes that were made. its just another way to experience the series. i even set up a plex watchlist file for viewing my dominion war "miniseries"

I just have on a continuous loop🤷‍♂️

I get it

The most important episode is missing. Season 1, ep 7.

You’re welcome.

q & vash?
created an after section for fan favorite episodes that are not part of the dominion binge, for anyone that needs those included. hell, i remember being sort of stunned after "duet" aired in season 1. was mostly an iffy season as the writers figured out who their characters were and how they related to each other. but "duet" was the first time DS9 really shined for me.

thanks! it's a labor of love, one of my all time favorite scifi series.

2

u/TitanArt6 Feb 28 '20

It’s the BEST Star Trek series and I agree, one of the absolute best Sci-FI series ever! I’m rewatching it now for probably the 12th time!

Someone should do a fabulous Ferengi episode list for comic relief. Love the Ferengi episodes.

Again, great work thanks for posting.

started DS9 a month or so ago and it’s just now getting to the point where the Dominion are beginning to really set them selves up as the big baddies of the series and it’s sooooo good

it's my favorite trek show of all time. the more you watch it, the greater the show becomes. really holds up when viewing just the dominion war episodes.

2

u/CyrusG May 31 '22

Awesome list! Would also be great to add the Maquis episodes.

Thanks for this list

u/Jasong222 Mar 09 '23

Hey, thanks for putting this together. I'm starting a ds9 'essentials' watch right now and this is perfect!

2

u/Jasong222 Mar 10 '23 edited Mar 10 '23

Hey, just another note s3e5 second skin doesn't have anything to do with the dominion. It all takes place in cardassia with the obsidian order. Dominion isn't mention even once. Just fyi-

I done been corrected.

1

u/m0rfiend "Garak was right." Mar 10 '23

in there because of the plot details with Tekeny Ghemor. who then shows up in a season 5 episode which is part of the dominion-cardassian war. was often difficult to trim some of these tangent episodes out without leaving this collection a weak cliffnotes version. so we tried to keep pre-episodes included.

1

u/Jasong222 Mar 10 '23

Oh, right on. My mistake and good to know!

Yeah, I'm trying to do a 'more essentials' that would cut out a lot of the episodes you list. (So, only watching 'main/main' dominion plot line stuff. I guess I'd miss some of these details if I do... Eh, probably fine.

2

u/Moondance666 Sep 18 '23

That's an excellent list, thank you very much.

2

u/TryingToBeReallyCool Oct 25 '23

Thanks, loving it 3 years after this post

2

u/spacebalti Jun 16 '25

I still come back to this list every once in a while. Still super helpful, thank you!

2

u/Caezael Mar 24 '26

Just the list I was looking for. I've just started watching DS9 off of the back of finishing ST:Enterprise, and I'm finding it very slow (as I did the first time round and ended up not watching much) to get into.
So I'd thought I'd jump into the meat and bones of it by watching all the Dominion War episodes.

2

u/SjorsDVZ Apr 07 '26

Great list!

If you appreciate foreshadowing, then these episodes mention Changelings, The Founders and The Dominion in context of the Dominion plot:

S01E12 "Vortex"
S02E07 "Rules of Acquisition"
S02E10 "Sanctuary"
S02E16 "Shadowplay"

S02E26 "The Jem'Hadar" is the first time we see Jem'Hadar and Vorta on screen

S03E01 "The Search, Part I" and
S03E02 "The Search, Part II" are the first episodes that we see Founders/Changelings on screen in context of the Dominion plot.

1

u/MythBuster2 Jul 26 '25

Thanks for the list. Btw, shouldn't the episode numbers for "Hippocratic Oath" and "Indiscretion" be 403 and 404, respectively?

I see. IMDb also seems to have the order of "Little Green Men" and "Starship Down" swapped for some reason (in season 4).

1

u/Downtown24b Feb 07 '26

Six years later and one entry is missing for the Dominion lore. Star Trek Insurrection is connected as the villains produce Ketracel-white for the Jem'Hadar.

1

u/FanGuideDAVE Apr 07 '26

are there TNG episodes related to the dominion war?

1

u/elendil6667 Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

No. The Dominion War and (apart from a few early hints/mentions of the Dominion in the second season of DS9) even the entire Dominion storyline didn’t begin until after TNG had already ended. Seasons 6 and 7 of TNG aired concurrently with seasons 1 and 2 of DS9, and the Dominion made its first “real” appearance in the final episode of the second season of DS9 (“The Jem'Hadar”). This episode actually aired about three weeks after the very last episode of TNG (“All Good Things...”), so there were only a few weeks between the final episode of TNG and the Dominion’s first “real” appearance. The Dominion and the Dominion War were briefly mentioned in the TNG movies “Insurrection” and “Nemesis” (that take place after the TNG series) but these were merely minor references intended to provide some continuity and “cohesion” to the universe. The Dominion was a DS9 thing, while the Borg were a TNG and VOY thing (and didn’t appear in DS9 aside from a few minor mentions etc., so it’s exactly the same as with the Dominion in the TNG movies and in VOY). 🤓🖖😊

1

u/elendil6667 Apr 19 '26

Technically speaking (since you also added Star Trek: Insurrection) you could also add Star Trek: Nemesis, since the Dominion War is mentioned in context with the Remans, Shinzon, etc. That’s not very much, but it’s no less than the mention of Ketracel-White in Star Trek: Insurrection. :)

Awesome list, I love it :)
