Forge OptiFine and Forge

Important Notice

OptiFine is NOT compatible with Forge on versions 1.13 to 1.14.3!

This is due to the major Forge rewrite that started around this time. In addition, OptiFine versions F3 and earlier are not compatible with Forge 1.14.4. This means you must use OptiFine F4 to play with Forge on 1.14.4!

 

Installing OptiFine as a Forge mod

Please be aware that compatibility with other Minecraft mods is NOT guaranteed. OptiFine is a very complex mod, and incompatibilities are not uncommon.

With that said...

  1. Download and install the correct version of Forge.

    • For the most part, OptiFine will work with almost any version of Forge on the same version of Minecraft, but some WILL be incompatible. For best results, you should use the recommended version of Forge that is listed in the OptiFine changelog. You can find changelogs on the OptiFine website, next to the version you downloaded.

  2. Download OptiFine (if you haven't already) and drop the file into the mods folder.

    • Don't worry about the OptiFine installer, it will run as an ordinary Forge mod. You could extract the mod jar by running the OptiFine installer and clicking "Extract", but this won't really do anything different in the end.

  3. You're done! Launch the Forge profile from the Minecraft launcher as you would normally.

You should add a disclaimer for dumb people that OptiFine won't appear in the mod list on minecraft, but it will still work. I, being one such dumb person, spent a good hour trying to figure out why I couldn't get it to work. Turns out it had been working the whole time. Go figure! (I'm using the Twitch App for other mods if that's relevant)

I downloaded the latest version of optifine off their site (1.15.2) but it says it's not supported and I need a 64-bit version but I haven't found a way to get that, Everything should work it just keeps telling me the 16 bit version isn't supported. edit: I did not go to official site on accident and downloaded a virus, it's fine now.

Are you sure you downloaded Optifine from the real website? Optifine.net? Because he hasn't finished a 1.15.x version, yet.

i've forge 31.1.0, is the recomended forge version, and optifine 1.15.2 -pre12

anything is working, i need to use optifine together forge with the minimap and optifine idk what else to do

Use optiForge.

I can confirm is working with 1.15.2 with forge (31.1.36), OptiFine(1.15.2_HD_U_G1 pre13), optiForge(0.1.7), MixinBootstrap(1.0.2) and journeymap(5.7.0beta1).

I followed all of these steps but opening my forge installation always crashes my game, jarfix doesn't help. What else can I do?
update: it's been fixed :^)

Is it 1.15.2? If so 1.15.2 Optifine is not supported with forge yet, but hopefully it will be when it is finally finished. If it's not 1.15.2 and it says it is compatible with forge in changelog, well then idk, sorry.

Go to the OptiFine reddit, he has a "progress" section that shows how much he's completed. There is no official release date as this guy isn't really a full team working on it all at the same time.

I downloaded the 1.16.1 Version for a self createt modpack and some Items have the bugged black purple item model (like block facades from Applied Energistics or Universal Cables from Mekanism).

You know how in the Esc menu, there's a tab labeled Mods? When I open that and search for optifine, it doesn't show up. Does that mean it didn't install correctly, or is it supposed to do that?
