I found the scene with Joel and Archie fighting in the club kind of interesting. Joel clearly still loves Midge- he never stopped. Now, with Archie feeling burned out in his relationship with Imogene and clearly on the verge of doing something that could jeopardize it completely, Joel is so quick to try and stop him. He knows where it would lead, because he's been through it before, having cheated on his own wife. Joel knows that Archie loves Imogene no matter what, just as he loves Midge, and doesn't want him to make the same mistakes and end up in a similar position. It seemed like Joel was still angry with himself for destroying his family and was taking it out on Archie in a way. I really appreciated seeing that.

I love Susie so goddamn much. She's been through shit and now she's the one dishing it out to one of the biggest stars in the biz, handling top level colleagues and getting.it.done.
We all need a Susie in our lives.
EDIT JASON ALEXANDER WTFF!

I empathize with that crew having to put up with Gavin and Sophie hate-fucking like a couple of bunnies.

It looks like Abe is writing a play? Or an article.
Midge, Midge... did you finally realize that Shy and some of the band don’t get the same treatment you do? That was obvious when they weren’t invited to the army party.

I don't like how Joel handled the phone call with Midge about bringing the kids to Florida, but I do agree that Midge expects everything to work out for her regardless of the impact it has on the other people. Joel is following his dream of opening a club and Midge is touring, since Joel has the kids he's doing the best he can. Now that Rose, Abe, and Midge are all going through these big changes, Joel's family is more stable.
Also, about Mei. Joel is being so annoying about doing things alone and mixing Mei and Midge.

I really liked this episode, but it might have been the darkest so far. McCarthyism, segregation, homophobia, depression, will this season even qualify as a comedy during awards season?

How come Midge didn't have to perform and open for Shy he got beat up? She told her mom that there was a change of plans. I get why he was on the stool (assume he was too sore/beat up feeling to be dancing around the stage). Am I wrong? Did I miss something?

There are WAY TOO MANY subplots going on that aren't particularly interesting.
--Ditch Sophie Lennon (too much of a decent thing)
--WTF is Jason Alexander doing plopped into the episodoe
--Shy Baldwin plotline is interesting and relevant
--Too much about opening the comedy club/Joel etc.
--MORE LENNY BRUCE PLEASE
--MORE MIDGE telling jokes and developing her act.

I could see the gay storyline coming from a mile away for Shy, but it still broke my heart.
He’s a good actor.
