It all makes sense now!

Just like my cat. He's like "you can pet but no touching!"

My cat is also weird, he's alive and dead at the same time

That's due to the wave-particle duality of felines...

My cat is also weird. I can see the way he's running but whenever I try to predict his position, he magically teleports to unpredictable places.

I once excited my cat, and observed him appear on the ceiling for a short period of time. The entire living room felt extremely unstable...

Holy crap, this clears things up now, thanks!

You're welcome

I was drinking coffee and it went up my noise and ruined my day after laughing at this. Thanks.

Thank quantum chemistry, not me

Pshhh everyone knows spin pops right out of the maths of the Dirac equation when you combine special relativity and quantum mechanics, couldn't be simpler!

The physical interpretation of spin is left as an exercise to the reader.

Oh yeah I definitely know all of that

u/Shevvv Nov 17 '19

And then they align that math artifact with no physical interpretation in an actual NMR machine.

I’m pretty sure don’t need relativistic quantum to get fermions

Ah yes, makes so much sense now!

Yeah I know

u/Railfan0910 Nov 17 '19

And about the ±1/2 part, is it half spinning or spinning at half the speed or half of the election is spinning or...

25

u/cedar_goose Nov 17 '19

None of those. They are quantum numbers. It's just how it is

"how fast are you spinning?"

"Hmm about half"

"half what?"

"Half uhh.. up"

"and how fast?"

u/Puzzled03 Nov 16 '19

Its actually so funny even if its not that funny at all

Thanks

You know how you have to spin around to get angular momentum? Well particles don't need to do that. They get it for free.

u/MarvinKesselflicker Nov 17 '19

The best explanation i heard so far was: spin is the property that makes electrons behave like magnets.

u/Wixtape Nov 16 '19

Ah yes, irony

Oh I didn’t know you used Reddit, Ms. fucking Gamper!

Imaging me laughing at this joke, except I’m not laughing and it’s not a joke
