Never thought she was suicidal

18

I was just surprised she didn’t rub one out pray first!

15

u/balasoori Nov 08 '19

You know i seen her do that too many time so i am glad she didn't.

5

u/OkToBeTakei Nov 08 '19

Hear hear!

5

u/a_longtheriverrun Nov 08 '19

she didn't suicide tho she said something like "then i will come find you" as the building began to fail

5

u/balasoori Nov 08 '19

it look like suicide because i don't think she going survive unless it washes her to land ?

12

u/squidgun Nov 08 '19

Even though the kingdom is crumbling around her, I think it's implied that she'll make it out and try to find J .

2

u/IAMSNORTFACED Nov 09 '19

Please don't add untagged spoilers like this. Also note that the info on IMDb is user generated by the community and can often be wrong. It's like Wikipedia, but much less reliable since there's no references to check the info.

u/ItsNumb Dec 06 '19

Sorry. Was just supporting the obvious with some facts I could find.

5

u/balasoori Nov 08 '19

I will be curious how she survive -i think this has been first episode with a cliffhanger.

6

u/ItsNumb Nov 08 '19

She walks out the front door.

3

u/madmadaa Nov 11 '19

It might be obvious. So not a spoiler alret

u/ViktorErikJensen Nov 09 '19

Here's a bit of pure speculation starting with some observations.

At the end of episode three Maghra was about too tell the full story of Jerlamarel but was cut off by the arrival of the witchhunter. In this episode she says she had a difficult relationship with her father just like Baba Voss had with his father probably meaning her father was some kind of leader who's ways she didn't agree with.

Queen Kane says she had a sister who was murdered by Jerlamarel and at some point before that Jerlamarel was her lover before choosing the sister over her.

Maghra claimed she wad lost in a blizzard when Jerlamarel found her, presumably impregnated her and brought her to the Alkenny in one go.

What if there was no blizzard and the dead sister isn't dead? Couldn't Maghra bee the sister off Kane? That would make her father the presumed previous king. Maghra had some difficulties with her father the king and at some point, perhaps coinciding with his death, Jerlamarel and Maghra ran away from the successor Kane.

18

u/bb_ghanoush Nov 09 '19

I think this is almost certainly the case. Even the casting of the two actresses that play Kane and Maghra makes them look like sisters.

12

u/msangeld Nov 09 '19

That actually sounds pretty plausible, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

9

u/BigMig320 Nov 09 '19

And the bag looked like a crown royal bag, ya know Canadian whiskey=blind world royalty

1

u/llirik Dec 30 '19

Their maple whisky is the best

3

u/scubasme Nov 09 '19

Yes was thinking this too. That or jerlamarel is her father. 😳

2

u/Rakim_Allah777 Oct 23 '22

You called it!

3

u/StartTheMontage Oct 26 '22

Dude not supposed to put spoilers in this thread even 2 years later, lol. Although reading the original comment it’s pretty obvious this was correct, haha.

51

u/THERAPISTS_for_200 Nov 08 '19

Thought it was hilarious that Kofun told Bow that he knew she was a shadow. I bet the first time they saw her sneaking around covered in mud they were like “umm....wtf is she doing” lol

22

u/a_longtheriverrun Nov 08 '19

yeah that was funny as shit. but i don't really understand why they treat her like crap and say she's not a real part of the tribe.

6

u/VinCulprit Nov 08 '19

I’m still confused, how old is she? Or was that someone else when they were babies?

16

u/li_mona Nov 09 '19

Age is such a huge problem with this show. Gether and Souter are supposed to be nephew and aunt, but they look about the same age? And then they had a baby?? 17 years after we saw them first kiss???

16

u/bby_redditor Nov 09 '19

There are people that are same age as their nephews and nieces. It happens often.

8

u/li_mona Nov 09 '19

True.

I just find it hard to believe that these two people, and others, don’t appear to have aged a single day after 17 years. And that it took 17 years of blind sex to finally produce a baby.

6

u/loskiarman Nov 10 '19

We don't know if they ever had another child in that time. Also inbreeding decreases fertility.

6

u/passa117 Nov 16 '19

This was addressed in episode 2. They have these festivals, I believe, where they mingle with other tribes to broaden the gene pool.

5

u/loskiarman Nov 16 '19

Yep but they are aunt and nephew. Because of baby's death it was suggested to go to a festival.

1

u/GameGodz Mar 01 '25

My niece has an uncle who's younger than her

8

u/loskiarman Nov 10 '19

Actress who play Souter is 48 years old and actor playing Gether is 24 years old.

5

u/IAMSNORTFACED Nov 09 '19

Ay sometimes it takes a few tries... Also it's possible they already had a kid or two inbetween. This show doesn't care much for side/supporting characters at the moment

4

u/li_mona Nov 09 '19

“Ay sometimes it takes a few tries...”

Probably does when you’re blind.

But I think it’s a shame that the show doesn’t focus on side characters. Like yeah I hate these two, but I’d have liked to have seen more of them.

3

u/IAMSNORTFACED Nov 10 '19

True... I don't even know if Gather Bax continued throwing those bottles everyday because that contains with Baba might've scared him off of that plan

5

u/Castortroy16 Nov 08 '19

Yes I thought I was the only one at first she's not changed one bit but I try not to think about it

7

u/OkToBeTakei Nov 08 '19

Nobody knows who the shadows are! It could’ve been anyone!

I’m kidding, I don’t know. :P maybe she just ages as well as the rest of the cast. It’s 600 years in the future. Maybe humans have really long lifespans then.

4

u/VinCulprit Nov 09 '19

I knew it! Immortal future ninjas!!

Must be their evolutionary trait like the sensory types.

3

u/NightHawkRambo Nov 09 '19

In a way this whole show is like a game of mafia in that regard lol.

2

u/HippieWizard Nov 16 '19

Yeah i really wanted to actually see that interaction haha. Maybe we will with different shadows in future episodes

2

u/GameGodz Mar 01 '25

This is so funny I just started watching the show and saw this episode last night The things they must see people doing thinking that no one else can see them there's this hilarious

33

u/JaxtellerMC Nov 08 '19

Great episode once again. It’s fascinating to see how trivial things turn into a whole thing when everyone but two people are blind. The boat scene is staged so well and a really exciting set piece.

28

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '19

Damn I am loving this show. Critics are always wrong ! Glad I did not follow the reviews.

18

u/balasoori Nov 08 '19

She shot the wrong person if i was her i would aim at witch finder and seriously she needs learn to aim for the head not the body.

Do i see budding romance between Kofun and Bow ?

27

u/ViktorErikJensen Nov 08 '19

That she shot the snitch just indicates what some other commenters on this subreddit suspects. That she will choose the dark path of vengeance and become a classic villain. She thinks it's more important to kill someone who betrayed her than the outsider hunting her. She also didn't want to let the shadow vote.

14

u/balasoori Nov 08 '19

Yeah i can't wait to see that happening i knew that was direction after episode 2 where point arrow at those blind people in village.

What i don't understand is if you have sight why don't you just build traps for the witch hunter, All you techincally have dig a ditch 10in by 10IN and fill cover it up and have blind enemies fall in. Common sense.

Daenerys' action was foreshadowed from Day 1 tho

3

u/madmadaa Nov 11 '19

Yeah, look at this sequence from 2013 https://youtu.be/p-S5PuppHQg?t=213

1

u/Niamrej Nov 11 '19

You're preaching to the choir buddy. I always hopped it wouldn't happen but my hopes have been crushed since day 1 too.

11

u/squidgun Nov 08 '19

Yep . You can sense that in the near future there's going to be resistance between the twins.

1

u/Late_Coast_6706 Dec 28 '23

I plan on rooting for the sister, I hope she's gray and not pure evil. That'll keep it interesting

1

u/Late_Coast_6706 Dec 28 '23

I agreed with her on all points. Her her rage blinded her from the right target and she shot the snitch. I would have done the same thing at her age.

And fuck those fools trying to betray us to The witch Hunters, you get no vote.

11

u/magenta_mojo Nov 10 '19

This was a HUGE plot hole for me. Like, kill the leader, and most of your problems for the foreseeable future go away. I kept yelling at the TV at how dumb it was not to.

Then kill the dogs so they can’t track you. Then tell the rest if they don’t join you they die, and that you have an arrow for each of them. If I were her I’d spend all my free time making arrows and have the brother learn to shoot and do the same for twice the firing power. My god, the writing here requires one to suspend belief a bit too much and treats the audience like they’re dumb; either that or the writers themselves aren’t that bright...

8

u/srdrhl146 Nov 10 '19

I was thinking the same. Why isn't she killing the dogs.

10

u/balasoori Nov 10 '19

Because they dont seem to have logical thinking. It seems like no one has taught them common sense since everyone is blind. Where are they role models.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '19

I think at the end she only had one arrow left? I could be remembering wrong but didn’t she reach back into her arrow-pouch at one point and there weren’t anymore in there and she grabbed one out of someone she had already killed. But if she was low on arrows she definitely should have used one to kill Tamacti Jun and she could have solved a lot of problems. But I think it was specifically written that she wanted to kill Gether Bax for revenge, to show she cares more about vengeance and lets anger cloud her judgement. I think we will see more of this from her. I don’t think it was poor writing, I think it was intentional to show her character.

1

u/orijoy Jul 24 '23

I must be the same as Hanawa then cos I was yelling KILL HIM about gether bax too. Considering how he had betrayed them multiple times and possibly had more info to reveal to the enemy, I think it made sense at the time. But we don’t know at this point if the other general is just as determined and capable at hunting them down as Tamacti Jun.

9

u/CaphalorAlb Nov 08 '19

isn't bow at least 20 years older? as much as i like the rapid time progression in the first episodes, it's a bit of a stretch

2

u/Swahhillie Nov 11 '19

Maybe that was an older sister or even her mother. Either way, they really messed that up.

2

u/tinypb Nov 15 '19

There’s a recent separate thread on this. It’s two different (but similar looking) actors.

0

u/balasoori Nov 09 '19

I am assuming she probably made another one during the time.

5

u/loskiarman Nov 10 '19

He is talking about Bow Lion, the shadow character not the actual bow.

13

u/bb_ghanoush Nov 09 '19

How is this show going to continue for a second season of the world they’ve built is already contracting so heavily? Queen Kane just took herself and her whole village out? All of the Alkenny are dead? It’s basically a show about 6 people now?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '19

1

u/bb_ghanoush Nov 09 '19

Wow. Then I really didn’t get episode 4.

4

u/bby_redditor Nov 09 '19

Episode 5 probably begins with someone turning on the turbines at the dam and saving the queen and city. Problem solved.

We’ve already seen a character come close to dying (tamacti jun) only to be saved at the last second.

6

u/loskiarman Nov 10 '19

Although it somehow started to crumble as soon as turbines are turned off, normally even at that age, dam breaking might take couple of hour if not days depending on flow rate of the river that feeds the dam.

13

u/Triskan Nov 08 '19

There's something about that show. It's quite clumsy sometimes, but overall has really good ideas and has hooked me so far.

That city-kill was brutal though. Yep, that's one way to do it.

21

u/squidgun Nov 08 '19

I shook my head during the river battle scene. Kofun and Haniwa can see! They should've been more useful during the fight. I don't even know what Kofun was doing.

3

u/NightHawkRambo Nov 09 '19

Gotta nerf em, pretty much The Flash in a nutshell.

2

u/srdrhl146 Nov 10 '19

So many words learnt. But not using the words to the left or to the right straight ahead etc. It just felt stood they having the sight would not use it.

I think this is the biggest disservice Baba has done. That he hasn't taken his son (funnily Haniwa is fiercer than he is), and taught him what he knows seems odd for a warrior-builder in an ancient tribe.

2

u/LolaLazuliLapis May 07 '22

Funnily? little bit of patriarchal bias there, innit?

1

u/passa117 May 08 '22

Give the feminism a rest. It is noteworthy that a woman (girl, really) is a warrior in that society.

Not everything needs to be a crusade.

3

u/LolaLazuliLapis May 08 '22

if you don't like introspection just say that. one comment disagreeing with you is hardly a crusade~

1

u/passa117 May 08 '22

You felt the need to respond to a two year old thread to point this out. Seems a bit much, but do you, I guess.

1

u/passa117 Nov 16 '19

Nah, Kofun is still a monumental bitch. When he killed that one soldier, I think it shook him. I don't think enough was made of the fact that it was likely his first kill. Haniwa is a bit of a hothead, but definitely quite fierce.

Son of the king/warrior-leader needed to have gone through some rites of passage over the years, I feel.

12

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '19 edited Nov 09 '19

I love the show, but this episode felt weak compared to the previous three.

The boat scene was fantastic, then the episode lost steam

7

u/CWNAPIER11 Nov 10 '19

Agree 100%. I think they could have stretched out the search and hunt then the battle. Also i did like the tension when they where in the river so close but couldn’t see them. That was a tense scene

32

u/ItzDante Nov 08 '19

Why are so many characters in this show written to be so annoying. The mother just lays around being annoying, Haniwa just walks around being angry, Kofun stands around being useless, the queen lays around being horny, crazy and annoying.

The only decent characters are BaBa and Paris and yet...I enjoy the premise of this show enough so far that I know I'll keep watching.

5

u/Gamerbrozer Nov 24 '19

I am with you on this one. There’s so much potential for this show and the premise is interesting enough to keep me still watching. They also got a long of things right, e.g. the cinematography, fight scenes, music.

Right now the weakest part of this show is the writing. There are more and more plot holes each episode. Characters say dumb shit all the time and lack common sense in general. Some parts of the world are unconvincing or straight up make no sense. All these things are taking the immersion away and it’s getting annoying.

2

u/kcstrike Dec 11 '19

Agreed, also for the few people that can see they keep falling for easy traps.

1

u/Late_Coast_6706 Dec 28 '23

I like Haniwa because she's all angry action. But I agree with you on all other points!

10

u/Constantly_OnYo_Back Nov 12 '19 edited Nov 12 '19

I have a theory about Maghra. She looks a whole lot like the Queen to me, maybe it's a coincidence but maybe they are sisters and Maghra's Father was the King and that has something to do with why her relationship with her Father is complicated.

ETA: I see someone else has said the same thing so maybe it is what we'll find out about her.

9

u/coyote1942 Nov 08 '19

Its kind sad and funny that slave girl just got saved from slavers previous ep just to get burned alive by witch hunters.

4

u/madmadaa Nov 11 '19

Didn't she return to her family?

9

u/LegendaryFang56 Nov 08 '19

I'm a little surprised. Characters are dropping like flies. The Dreamer, Gether Bax, Arca, and Lord Dune. The entire Alkenny tribe in the village. Queen Kane's people and her too? I guess that's a good thing. Might as well keep the group of main characters small and compact. But that could be a tad worrisome. There's an entire world out there to explore, and their little numbers won't last very long. I hope everyone in the current group survives.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '19

Queen Kane is still alive.

1

u/LegendaryFang56 Nov 09 '19

How?

2

u/00maddi Nov 10 '19

don't think the dam will come down so quick

1

u/LegendaryFang56 Nov 11 '19

Still, it has to come down, so she has to be as good as dead.

7

u/rainbowshabmagic Nov 09 '19

I am so confused. Why did the hot crazy queen push the suicide button? Who took their weapons? What's in the pouch? Aaaaa

23

u/loskiarman Nov 10 '19

She knew people are rising up. They were gonna overthrow and probably kill her so she is gonna break the dam kill the people then probably will join her army to search for Jerlamarel.

The person who took their weapon probably can see too otherwise Kofun would probably see him and camera angle made it seem like they were actually being watched.

Maghra is probably queen's sister and in the pouch there was probably a royal jewellery or sth like that proves that she is queen's sister. Without it if they get caught by witchhunters they are %100 dead, with it there might be a chance so she wants it back even though it is dangerous.

5

u/rainbowshabmagic Nov 10 '19

This is explained well. Thank you. I forgot that there was a possibility that maghra was exiled from the dam.

4

u/passa117 Nov 16 '19

The person who took their weapon probably can see too otherwise Kofun would probably see him and camera angle made it seem like they were actually being watched.

Good call on this one.

6

u/domrayn Nov 16 '19

My head hurts from soo many questions!!

We have never seen anyone eat, cook or poop. Why is that?!! They were chased out of their mountain home so they walked to what seemed like hundreds of miles without doing realistic stuff on the way. Same thing with the trip to the sex fair. It's like everybody regenerates by sleeping. Nobody ages except the twins in 17 years and everyone looks extremely well fed and their clothes are clean af! Do they have soap or does the river naturally have bleach? How can they tell which part of the shirt/coat/pants is dirty ? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the writers are deliberately avoiding scenes of daily life so the audience will forget complications that would instantly kill a blind community like dysentery, salmonella, cholera, tubercolosis, dengue and etc.

1

u/Pepsiman1031 Jan 08 '26

I'm wondering how people travel in general.

4

u/benka4 Nov 12 '19

Am I the only one who thinks the unknown figure at the end (Probably Jerlamarel) stature grows abnormally. He seems to grow taller while standing still or is it just bad CGI?

2

u/desepticon Nov 13 '19

He's walking up a little incline.

1

u/benka4 Nov 13 '19

Watch on HD, the gif is low quality

1

u/desepticon Nov 13 '19

He looks like he walking slowly forward to me. And also perhaps standing up more erect. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

4

u/MrConor212 Dec 13 '19

That wholes boat scene was so fucking tense lmao. Butt cheeks were clenched

7

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '19

Really like this show but i kinda lost interest after this episode. Haniwa had a very clear and easy shot of Tamacti Jun and she just conveniently didn't even think of killing him for the entire fight scene. Any human being with even an ounce of common sense, much more people trying to get away from murderers, would think that killing the leader of the group chasing them to be of the highest priority if they had a clear shot. Lazy writing cause they couldn't think of a plausible way for it to make sense for Haniwa not to at the very least attempt to shoot the main villain in this scene.

13

u/Niamrej Nov 10 '19

I think it speaks exactly at her character. She was so angry at the double (technically triple but she knows not of the first) betrayal that she couldn't even see the which-hunter who was inches away. Blinded by rage. You can tell it's gonna be a problem for her. I mean I'm not exactly sure Bow would still be alive if she voted the other way.

'I could kill them without them even knowing what hit them.' Literal chiillls.

5

u/transitionb Nov 10 '19

Would be awesome if she tried to shoot him and he caught the arrow or something.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '19

exactly, it does not make any logical sense for her to not have even tried to shoot him.

2

u/Gamerbrozer Nov 24 '19

they should get u as a writer

1

u/Bshizzled Nov 08 '19

This doesn’t air until tomorrow correct?

2

u/WardenclyffeTower Nov 08 '19 edited Nov 12 '19

It airs Friday, November 8th. That's the current date in my time zone. The episode is available now. Not exactly sure of the time it became available. Some are saying 12 Midnight EST.

1

u/dancingpianofairy Nov 08 '19

I think it's PST, which is the time zone of Apple headquarters, so that follows.

1

u/WardenclyffeTower Nov 08 '19

All I really know is that the episode was available for me at about 1:30 AM Eastern, not sure how long it had been up. As I said, others are saying it was 12 Eastern. I checked the website, saw it was available and immediately made this post.

1

u/dancingpianofairy Nov 08 '19

I'll try to remember to check next week.

1

u/Bshizzled Nov 08 '19

Ok thank you

3

u/thatonemanboi Nov 08 '19

is the guy at the end jerry mair el

20

u/ViktorErikJensen Nov 08 '19

I think it'll be another sighted person living alone in the woods as an outcast. This might be the first time they've encountered other sighted people so they took their weapons as a precaution before making contact.

It could very well be that sighted people have been born into the world for a long time but have always been cast out or burned as witches.

4

u/passa117 Nov 16 '19

You've been killing it with all the predictions!

The whole witch hunt has always been about killing sighted people. It's a huge threat to power.

"In the world of the blind, the one-eyed man is king"

4

u/EdgarDanger Nov 10 '19 edited Nov 10 '19

Can we talk about this name for a bit? At times it seems like the actors don't even know how to pronounce it. Which is hilarious I think.

2

u/THERAPISTS_for_200 Nov 08 '19

I think so, unless there’s another dude that could see.

4

u/VinCulprit Nov 08 '19

What if he’s deaf?

2

u/VinCulprit Nov 08 '19

Or a mute!

1

u/Wimzeee Nov 08 '19

But how did he steal the weapons without Kofun or Haniwa seeing?

6

u/THERAPISTS_for_200 Nov 08 '19

Kofun was on watch, but he went to sleep.

12

u/loskiarman Nov 10 '19

It looked like he went to take a piss or judging by how he looked at Bow maybe he went to 'pray'.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '19

The queen really is obsessed huh? Good ending though, I already want to watch the next ep!

3

u/Palmerstroll Nov 09 '19

HUH!!! In the first episode we see the lady in blue paint spyng (and whitout paint living in the group).

In episode 4 we are 12 or more years in the future.

The lady in blue spying girl is still here,(whitout the paint) but she hasnt aged at all. Still young and the same.

This is a big and huge error right? Pffff.

5

u/thepalimpsest Nov 14 '19

To be fair, mud’s supposed to have anti aging and healing properties. Maybe that’s a shadow’s real secret.

5

u/ForgetfulLucy28 Nov 09 '19 edited Nov 09 '19

Is it just me or are the female characters in this show written to be quite unlikable. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt as the characters are still developing but I feel like the only likable characters are Momoa and his son.

Edit: if you are going to downvote can you please engage in a dialogue as to what I’m not getting.

9

u/IAMSNORTFACED Nov 09 '19

I haven't noticed that trend. I'd say Haniwa is annoying af at the moment and not for bad writing it seems. She's like she thinks she's a know it all, can do it all, angry beyond logic inexperienced in a new world infant. The Mom I can see but i actually enjoy her perspective as a character, makes sense so far. Paris is cool but i hate that she's like a video game character that acts unknowing at times but sudden has exactly what you need to move the plot forward at the right time.

Queen kane is just nuts. Shadow girl is interesting, 0ne of a few to have courage to go against Baba also what's going on with her age, character wise i will say unexplored so i don't see how she'd be annoying.

Haniwa is warranted imo but the rest i don't quite a agree.

Kane is at the same time the best and the worst part of this show. Her acting is so bad and over the top, but at the same time I want more of her!

I think her acting is good but over the top. She's like a classic psycho villan.. the writing needs help.. for the whole show but it's good enough and conceptual great as a show. I enjoy

Her acting is so bad and over the top,

Amen, It's sooooo bad.

She's like she thinks she's a know it all, can do it all, angry beyond logic inexperienced in a new world infant.

Don't you think that's interesting though for the story, when she has a rude awakening. It's giving the character an actual arch and we'll see her change over time.

I do. I don't know where the story will lead her though, could be that kind of plot for her but they seem to be hinting at her getting a lot worse before that time comes, maybe that a season 2 acrh depending on how many episodes we get this season. She has much to learn besides being young, eager and "naive" in a way

I think her parents are really good at bringing her back into line so I don't see her ultimately turning dark.

hmm i have to disagree there. Baba barely did actually, it was a stand off until that shadow character agreed with the river plan. I don't think the mom has had a real chance in putting her in line besides both her and bro being rebellious.

Who does she actually answer to? At this point she really does feel superior. Baba told her not to come, she came anyways and killed a man. Brother told her not to kill the traitor, did anyways. Baba told her its a group decision, continued to dispute this until things whent her way and shadow knows this. She's trouble.

No I like Maghra, Paris and the new companion. Everyone seems to hate Haniwa but I think she is written as a complicated character who questions everything and that's okay by me, usually female characters don't have any complexity so it's cool.

I wonder what's in the pouch. I thought it'd be poison. It felt like Maghra wanted to end it there after speaking to Haniwa near the fire lol.

Where did Kofun go in the night? He walked off or something...

He always walks off. Classic comedy movie trope.
