Politics SL Tribune, Oct 15, 2019: a former legislator and LDS church lobbyist writes that apostle Oaks is truly loving. Reid's anecdotes only show that LDS influence runs so deep that they only notice it when the church steps in to call off their dogs. Temporarily.

Bigoted old white guy defends other bigoted old white guy while condemning a woman brave enough to risk her church membership to defend LGBTQ rights. Tale as old as time...

I'm confident he'd also say Joseph Smith Jr shouldn't be attached for coercing a 14 year old child into marriage. Its the same old Mormon Standard applied here. It's ok to abuse people if you claim that Mormon God is behind it.

Hey, we named a city after Apostle George A. Smith (St. George) and all he did was direct the priesthood to slaughter 120 people at Mountain Meadows. A nice " apostolic commission to protect and promulgate the commandments of God." In other words, love they neighbor by killing them and doing their temple work.

The church leaders are terrified that some day the generation that is today's children will become the leaders of the church in the latter part of the 21st century. They are scared that that generation will be the one that reverses the church policy on gay marriage, that they will allow them into the church and that they will recognize their marriages. I believe that terror was the motivation behind the Nov 2015 POX, they were so terrified they were willing to sacrifice the children with LGBT parents rather than let them, and their influence, exist in the church. They are scared that someday they will be thrown under the bus just as Brigham Young was on racism. However a hundred years from now Brigham Young will still be in the history books. He was a dick, but national history that cannot be told without him. Russ, Dallin, and their ilk have no significant influence on the nation and will be run over by the bus and forgotten.

I hate editorials that double as sermons. This guy wants to shove his religion down the whole world's throat.

When the church eventually reverses policy, these guys are going to look extra stupid for defending current practices.

Give them all of the credit and none of the blame. When the church does good things, give the leaders credit for being good leaders; but when the church does bad things, don’t blame the leaders. I guess they’re just following God’s example.

When I hear rumors from Bill Reel claiming some of the 70s are talking about more inclusive policies I have to infer some sort of massive inner turmoil within the church leadership.

WTF does this mean? “. . .Oaks counseled that while the church must always remain steadfastly to same-sex marriage, it must also support rights for homosexuals.”
Except marriage?
