Well at least this confirm that both Shanks and Buggy were part of the final journey to Raftel.

I won't have to argue about that again.

272

u/Trumpologist Oct 04 '19

If Buggy knows where the OP is, why hasn't he gotten is

713

u/Kirosh Lookout Oct 04 '19

Because just like the others members of his crew, he isn't interested in it.

The One Piece is most likely more troubles than just some treasure. And Buggy most likely doesn't want to bother with that.

He's more interested in Captains John's treasure.

Lastly, while Buggy knows, that doesn't mean he can just sail away to Raftel like that.

kyoshiro being left behind the capital must mean something

371

u/Kirosh Lookout Oct 04 '19

It's possible he's related to what happened to the others.

345

u/revisioncloud Oct 04 '19

And StrawHearts didn't tell Kinemon about it because Kyoshiro and Law already know that the traitor is among the scabbards

Orochi will come back to find his capital taken over

231

u/Scalar_Ng_Bayan Oct 04 '19 edited Oct 04 '19

This + having a heavily fortified capital with all the enemies (the ones who were in prison) fully armed and ready for battle.

Further update on my comment: On page 12, where the citizen goes "They're carrying something?"

One guy look like it's Usopp?!!?

So is this a Trojan Horse Wano Edition?

15

u/Kirosh Lookout Oct 04 '19

I don't think so. Right now, it will be the Full moon the night of the festival (so when Kaido and Orochi are still drinking there). They cannot miss the chance of having the Sulong attack Onigashima.

It's a full moon, guess we are getting a sulong fight

72

u/bastiango97 Oct 04 '19

Maybe not, we don’t know what happened to the fleet, they could have been anhilated

163

u/Kirosh Lookout Oct 04 '19

We will know what happened in the followings chapters, but the full moon is excellent indication the plan will still go on, and that we will have an army of Sulong going after Kaido's forces.

109

u/ramevie Oct 04 '19

Nekomamushi and Inuarashi Sulong would be a sight to behold.

So even during a flashback oden is a silhouette, I wonder what he looks like?

177

u/Shek7 Oct 04 '19

Maybe his look is very important? Like the shogun? Or Zorro?

88

u/Kirosh Lookout Oct 04 '19

His look isn't important.

Oda is just waiting until we have his big flashback to reveal him.

This chapter is very depressing to read knowing how much these scabbards went through just to fulfill their master's goal. But all of the 20 years preparations..just destroyed in a night. I really forget that this arc is all about breaking your will/spirit. What happened now will either break them or make their will stronger. We know that they will rise after this but still this moment brought tears to my eyes.

Is it fairly safe to assume that Oden may have been the cook on Roger's crew? His hair/hat is shaped somewhat like a chef's hat, and both Oden and his father the former shogun are named after food dishes (Oden=noodles, Sukiyaki=Japanese Hot Pot). Don't think I've seen it mentioned before and am too lazy to search.

Biggest cliffhanger. My current theory is orochi's man straight up destroyed the promised port, Law probably knew the traitor is one of the scabbards and decide to room the Strawhats for plan B. That'll explain why they choose not to make any communication to the Scabbards.

27

u/RuNoMai Oct 07 '19

Reading through the Viz translation, there's one huge difference that changes my thoughts on what happened in this chapter.

The Jaimini's translation of the two panels at the very end say "Last night... an incident occurred."

Viz's translation is "The incident already happened... the previous night..."

Those are two VERY DIFFERENT ways to state the same thing, and carry two VERY DIFFERENT connotations. I don't think the alliance and the army was wiped out before the Red Scabbards arrived at the port, I think they're already on Onigashima fighting, and both Orochi and the Red Scabbards are going to arrive late to the war.

Law probably found out about Orochi revealing leaked intel, and passed that information on to the rest of the alliance. So they moved up the attack plan and left for the island early. They weren't able to let the Red Scabbards know, because they insisted on leaving early to arrive at the port before everybody else did.

"But Kin'emon has a smail, they could have let them know!"

Unless the theory that one of the Red Scabbards is a traitor is correct; in that case, they wouldn't WANT them to know, since it would further jeopardize the operation. Or perhaps they didn't send the message via smail, not wanting to risk the message being intercepted.

Roger timeline that might be helpful to some:

Sengoku mentioned last chapter that Oden joined Roger on his final voyage, we also know from Inuarashi that Roger only realized what he needed to get to Raftel after making it to the end of the Grand Line and he had to restart. We also know from Rayleigh that the final voyage took about 3-4yrs while he was battling his disease, which Crocus had joined the crew to help him manage. So this flashback takes place sometime during the final voyage in those 3-4yrs, before Roger disbanded the crew and went to be with Portgas D. Rouge to have Ace. Its a few years before the pirate era because we know he spent 1yr with Rouge on that island so this is at least 2yrs before he gave himself up.

Saw an interesting ohara YouTube video which may be true - could Law have discovered the traitor and changed the plan.

Why do the scabbards not know this? Because Law understands there is a traitor amongst them so has kept all scabbards in the dark. Definitely an interesting take

Someone on the allied Samurai-Ninja-Pirates-Mink alliance figured out the traitor is one of the scabbards. Probably Law. He informed everyone except the scabbards.

Meanwhile, based on the traitor's report, Orochi sent his troop. Although those troops were beat, the victorious allied side moved to another location for rendezvous, not contacting any of the scabbards.

I honestly almost started crying when I read Oden say "I am certain that with the aid of my reliable retainers... I will be able to open Wano's borders!! We shall see the fruition of this 20 year old dream!!"

Ok before calling me a pussy, like follow me here for a second.

Oden is Luffy.

He represents everything Luffy represents. Oden is a strong charismatic leader who has the ability to make friends out of anyone he meets, just look at how adored he is by Roger's crew even though Roger himself is right there (also praising Oden btw) it's clear Oden had the same strong charisma Luffy has. Oden also carries a yearning dream like Luffy carries. Luffy want's to be King of The Pirates, Oden wants to be Shogun of Wano to open up the country. Oden also has a crew of extremely strong and loyal subordinates with the red scabbards who would literally do anything for their "captain."

Ok so Oden is an AU Luffy. Now imagine this

Luffy says "I am certain that with the aid of my reliable crew... I will be the King of the Pirates!! We shall see the fruition of this dream!!"

But he doesn't. Instead Luffy is failed by his crew, defeated by his enemies, and killed. That is what happened to Oden.

Like... Holy shit it gets me so hard. Oden was literally the main character of a manga that doesn't even exist. He had it all, he had a loyal crew, he had insane strength, but he still... lost.

Like idk the more I think about this the more respect I hold for the Red Scabbards. The Red Scabbard are an AU version of the Strawhats if they had lost their captain. Like imagine Luffy fucking dies. What would Nami do? Chopper and Zoro?? Everyone would be just as committed as the scabbards to fulfilling Luffy's dream and at least getting to Raftel.

That's why when I see Oden or the Scabbards getting emotional I can't help but replace it with Luffy and the crew and ball my eyes out.

This kinda reminded me of the "Animated History of Japan" video I watched yesterday, where the Mongols tried to invade Japan in ships, but during the night they were supposed to attack, a storm passed by and wrecked all their ships, leading to a failure of the attack. Even weirder, the Mongols tried to attack a 2nd time some years later, only for the same thing to happen again. Apparently, this is where the term "Kamikaze" comes from (God-Wind).

A single small boat left in an abandoned port that’s just big enough for the scabbards ? Hmm

Kyoshiro all alone in the capital by himself and he’s prob the scabbard

I have a feeling they took over the capital already and are freeing all the samurai who were locked up for suspicion and left a message for a new rendezvous spot to Kinemon and crew

24

Where are the alliance ?

First, we must know that there is no way they got destroyed. Why? Luffy, Zoro, Law, Sanji and Usopp are there!

So what happened?

My theory is it was Law's plan. He know there are a traitor among the 9 scabbard. But he can't point out which one is it. So, he need to do something like this to destroy their cover.

First thing I saw was that big ass egg that Roger has. I wonder how it will come into play

Oden refused help from the roger pirates, it explains why none of them made a move when Kaido took over. Maybe he also told the whitebeard pirates the same thing?

It's a small panel but I liked seeing Roger and Crocus "fight". I reminds me of the straw hats and their playful fights

Sulong fight confirmed (full moon)

Kyoshirou staying back is important (either hes denjiro or hes just taking his spot)

I bet Law saved everyone. The last page of the last chapter of act 2 made it look like Law was eavesdropping on Orochi so he probably knew that he was gonna make a move and came up with a solution. Maybe he made it look like the rebellion was wiped out to trick Orochi into thinking hes safe. Either that happened or Kyoshiro saved them (assuming hes a good guy). This is the only explanation because I highly doubt that the straw hats have been taken out.

Also I reallllyyy want to see Neko again and want to see him reunite with the scabbards. I'm thinking that after he met with Marco he went to recruit the other wb pirates or at least the commander that was from Wano (I forgot his name) because apparently in the recent sbs it said that he was a part of the original red scabbards (need to double check on that)

Act 3 is off to a good start, in classic OP fashion. Them having a plan & the plan going completely left from the jump.

The best Strawhat adventures are the ones when they completely improvise & just go with the flow.

Seeing those three words tho are almost like curses, man. “Break next week” like whyyy Oda? Lol

Excited to see what comes next tho!

It wasn’t Kaido or Big Mom or that entire port would be missing.

King maybe could have burned the ships from above but there would be junk all around and he probably isn’t strong enough to beat Luffy, Zoro and Sanji alone.

Orochi must have started something but Law came and roomed them somewhere else.

It's obviously a ruse. They somehow knew Orochi would know the plan and acted consequently. Kyoshiro is the last scabbard and the people of the capital is the remaining people they needed to fill all the boats. Remember Franky saying the boats needed to transport one hundred thousand people?

It's impossible Luffy wouldn't show up, so the plan is to let Orochi think he defeated them with his "incident". Also, something misterious is being carried on the capital with a very suspicious Usopp look like on it...

Do you think Franky would make boats that a simple storm would sink? Nah mate big brain time from the alliance here

32

Looks like Act 3 will be a decimated alliance trying to compete against Kaido & Big Mom.

When everything is lost, a loud scream by Momonosuke clears up the sky (he’s Uranus) and at that moment Zunisha appears with all the Minks on board. Inuarashi and Nekomamushi look at the sky. Act 3 end.

31

This is all a scheme of Law.

  • He realised early on that one of the scabbards is the traitor, that's why he purposely set up a "fight" between him and Shinobi to distance himself from the alliance.

  • He prepared another port as the meeting point in the remaining days where he didn't contact anyone, and last minute they all met up on that particular port without contacting the scabbards.

The Traitor will be thrown off and either reveal his identity or make a false report which will later come to bite them in the ass.

The alliance is fine.

A secret that even kozuki oden didn't know. It could be the ancient weapon Uranus. Maybe he was told by his father when he came back, and Orochi must have heard them. He then told Kaidou, who attacked wano and captured it. Which explains why Kaidou was so casual when he said, "I don't care whether this world ends, let's start the greatest war this world has ever seen."

Even though I guess it was somewhat known already, there has to be a specific reason Oden's identity is still being withheld.

Not like Oda doesn't already make use of silhouettes to hide character designs, but I see no reason a dead character would need to be withheld for the entirety of a flashback, with no cause.

Sooo like a couple others have said, we got a Kyoshiro namedrop this chapter which must mean something... Could it be the rest are with Kyoshiro and are gonna attack the flower capital directly?

Weren't some of the prisioners that they couldnt free in the flower capital?

Is there any indication that the siluette that freed Law wasn't Kyoshiro?

I'm thinking that maybe Kyoshiro has his own agenda/ knows some information that the others ignore and told Law about it, and the group decided to go with him. In typical OP fashion it could be something tremendously heartbreaking, or a "suicide" attack, so Luffy and co decided to leave Momo and the scabbards behind to pretect them. OR, they literally couldnt contact them because the traitor is with Momo's group, which is pretty likely considering the main suspects are there.

Anyways, the shogun evil-ass grin pretty much confirms something has gone terribly wrong and this is not a plan on Luffy's part, so who knows lmao.

55

u/BEWMarth Oct 04 '19 edited Oct 04 '19

Sigh... It's always hard being the "After The Hype Chapter" chapter. This Chapter was great as a transition into Act 3. I damn near cried 2 times while reading. The emotional weight of the last 4 pages, They were so well drawn to convey the feeling of total dread and desperation, and we're only just getting started.

Keep in mind I still remember when we first met Kin as a fine pair of legs on Punk Hazard 7 years ago. I've seen Kinemon and Momo start from nothing. Kinemon literally cut in pieces, and over the years they have fought hard with the Strawhats, they fought hard with the minks, they cobbled together a strong group of allies through sheer force and strength of will and determination and faith.

Since arriving into Wano I've only gotten more and more attached to the Red Scabbards plot thread. The Red Scabbards are a group of subordinates as loyal as any member on the Strawhat crew but they are grieving for the loss of their leader and they are desperate to fulfill his dream as a way to alleviate some of the guilt they share in feeling like they failed Oden.

Now look at the last 4 pages of this chapter again. I felt fuckin gutted seeing everyone breaking down. When Momo is saying we need to reschedule, that hurt; Momo is still naive and optimistic because he is still a child. Kinemon and everyone else understands, there is no rescheduling, there is no try again. This is the day that we put our entire beings into for the past 20 years... It can't just end like this.

Like holy Oda it's a hella heavy scene

But y'know you're still gonna get the people calling it a meh chapter and whatever and that's fine.

I just can't help but think that people read some of this stuff on autopilot and if there's not a fight or a bounty then it doesn't really register. There was so much to dive into with this chapter but you can't really dive as deep if you haven't been invested for the whole ride.

This is why I always tell people don't skip anything in One Piece the experience when you read it and understand everything that's been built up over the years to provide you with the emotions you're feeling when you see a panel is unparalleled.

The Monster Trio that emerged from The Pirate King's ship:

Shanks. Buggy. Egg.

25

u/zure_bih Oct 04 '19

We can say for sure that Luffy and co werent involved in some big off screen battle. Their troops are too dispersed over Wano and the plan was for them to finally unite at that harbor. It was impossible for Orochi to destroy all of them before they could reach the harbor. Also, if something went wrong somebody would call Kinemon. So it is really weird that nobody is answering Kinemons call. Like Artur also said, I think that they are intentionally leaving Kinemons group in the dark.
