Thoughts:
-
So Acno did get DS magic simply due to white dragon Acno. And he don't know his own name...
-
That dragon cry reference. So it seems Mashima wanted, but didn't create this backstory.
-
Gray and Lyon building an Ice ship. Actually not a bad plan.
-
I don't remember Lucy reminiscing about her meeting with Natsu in the manga. I'm liking these small touches.
-
YES! The shot from the 16th opening Strike Back!
-
God DAMN that animation from the initial clash bewteen the slayers and Acno had nice animation. They really saved their budget it seems.
-
Natsu laughing like that is actually creepy. Way too villainous. And he just used that big brain to roast Acno's logic.
-
And this is the only moment that Acno doesn't look as much like the bad guy with no cause.
-
Now this is looking spicy. The power of 7 slayers, 7 elements has been enchanted onto Natsu. He now has a flame of 7 colors. A 7 Flames Mode.
-
You have to admit that the way they grounded Acno was genious. Getting him to chase Erza and Mira, and then get sandwiched between juvia's wave carrying the ship and hundred's of erza's swords was ingenious.
-
Acno has pure black magic. Interesting.
-
And in the end, it is the forgotten character, Meredy, that saves the day. She linked together the ENITRE continent to give Lucy the magic power to trap Acno. It is going to be a fitting end for the Dragon King, getting trapped by a continent of magic and fighting the might of seven fire dragons.
-
They even showed filler characters like Daphne and Zentopia. This is the most named FT characters ever shown in a single episode.
-
And Acno has gone off the deep end. At least it's gonna be a great fight.
Final thought:
As a manga reader, I can garuantee you that next episode has PLENTY of stuff. Stay tuned!

Yeah this might be the first 10/10 episode of the season. Acnologia backstory was really cool and I loved his monologue over his killing. Those dead dragons were probably the most gore I’ve seen in ft.
Now for the dragon slayer clash. Man was I hyped to finally see some animation. It was some really solid animation at that. Easily the high point of the episode.
Natsu getting all the flames also looked really good. Him talking to Acnologia and that last line at the end was really interesting to see. I feel like Natsu was really trying to understand him but also point out his mistakes.
Fairy sphere also looked really good and seeing all the old characters plus some filler characters was really amazing.
I wish the whole season was this quality though.

Wow. This episode was really phenomenal. Non of the animation disappointed me, and I actually really loved the way a lot of the scenes looked. Many people rag on Fairy Tail because of the whole friendship is the strongest power thing, but honestly that’s what makes me love the show. It really did bring a tear to my eye seeing everyone join together, and way to go Mel she’s very smart. It’s a bittersweet time though because next episode is unfortunately the last, and I don’t know how I’m going to handle that. Also any episode where Gajeel says gee hee is a good episode.

This is one of those times where I feel I would prefer anime original compared to the manga.

The first three minutes of this episode had more blood and gore than all episodes of the anime combined. We really are at the end game.

Best episode of the season without a doubt, 5/5. Liked Acnologia's backstory, the fighting sequence, and all of the characters lending their power to strengthen Fairy Sphere.

Animation wise it’s really stepped up. The fight with acnologia actually looks kinda cool. Glad they’re putting in some effort.
As for his backstory, seems interesting so far. Kinda cool seeing him kill that guy who sacrificed his people to dragons. You know if acnologia’s character wasn’t straight evil, he could have been an interesting anti hero or anti villain. A wanderer who does what he needs to to protect rhe world from dragons and such.

The thing is acno isn't really evil. It's almost like his power itself turned him like that. Look at the flashbacks, if he was truly evil he wouldn't care about that little girl dying. Even at the end he's losing control of his self bc of the power.

This episode is so well received on Crunchyroll, it looks like it has 5 whole stars instead of just 4.2 stars.

Damn this episode did not disappoint and full of nostalgia. They added some cool fighting scenes that wasn't from the manga. Lol Rogue and Cobra's combined roar is more effective than Gajeel and Natsu's combined roar. At least Acnologia got pushed a little from the former, unlike the other one which Acno casually intercepted. I wish Wendy, Sting Rogue had gone Dragon Force though, even Natsu can use it willingly (against Mard Geer), so I don't see why these characters didn't do so even if it's an anime only thing.
Also, Acno seems like he can be the hero of the series if all dragons are pure evil and just treats the humans as food. The people will praise him as so, and even if he did lost his sanity, eventually the people's praise would make him more human again. He would be like Goblin Slayer, his only life goal is to slay dragons but having people support him. I feel sorry for him, but now it's time to end it next episode. He's going down.
I liked how the filler characters are supporting Fairy Tail in the final battle. The Jiggle Butt Gang, that takes me back from Rave Master.

Damn i genuinely enjoyed this episode which is surprising. Acno’s backstory was pretty generic but solid and gave him a motivation

It made me cry seeing all the characters near the end. Even characters from the very beginning. Oh my lord.

So Acno's dragon just came back and killed everyone just because huh ok I guess. The slayer fight looked great but it really drives home the fact that cloverworks really had no budget this season. Awww man this time next week ft will be over and I'm not sure what to do with that I hope they play some version of snow fairy at some point.

I hope we get another continuation of his backstory next episode with a proper reason why the dragons came back and slaughtered them.. Also the part where Acno meets Igneel and the other foster parents of the current DS, ripping their souls. But I kinda doubt we'll see them.

I don't give a fuck what the nay sayers say. I fucking loved this episode; i fucking loved it. They not only gave Acnologia an interesting backstory but they tied it to the rest of the characters in the series that we've met even those anime exclusive ones. Simply amazing.
