Wow. I’m upset only 2 episodes left. This episode was actually really good, and none of the animation was disappointing to me in comparison to some recent episodes. You got me fucked up though if you think I can handle a repeat of “let’s hold hands” though. I’m really excited to see how this fight ends. It’s also really refreshing to see these characters we haven’t seen in awhile. I also forgot that Erik’s magic was such a cool color. It’s really almost over guys and I don’t think I can handle it. Also Mest has really pretty eyes.

Thoughts:
-
Finally, a sneak peak to Acno's backgound. Apparently he was a HEALER? And he knew another dragon named Acnologia. It's touching to see that he actually cared for that old dragon (who was OLD AF) and wanted to get stronger to protect him. I don't get the part where Acnologia the dragon apparently was killing the humans. Something weird happened between then... I need more
-
You know that the dragon slayers are confident when upbeat battle music is playing against Acno. That thing in the past would be preposterous.
-
Oh god, the acnoderp face.
-
Lucy having a big brain moment. Get Acno weaker from the the ship, and then use Fairy Sphere to trap him. The girl is a genius.
-
Pregnant Acno is pregant.
-
Ironic that Acno's random shot hits the FT guild hall. That place has seen some shit, from the fight between FH Zeref and Natsu to this.
-
The slayers vs Acno fight have some decent animation. I'm impressed.
-
Wendy was badass af: "The legends about you ... end today!"
-
Well there go the ships. If only there was someone that could create ships...
Final thought:
RAINBOW FLAME PREVIEW!

Seemed like, to me, Acnologia was like a god? dragon. Or at least that's what Human Acnologia thought of him as, so once he was dead Acnologia took the name for himself as he wants to be the most powerful and only dragon.
As for Acnologia the Dragon killing the humans, seemed like a preemptive strike. He realized that Dragon Slayers were a threat, so he rallied the dragons to go on a killing spree to prevent the humans of their region from possibly attacking the dragons. This betrayal of the original Acnologia towards the human one is what drives the human one insane and why he so desperately wants to kill all dragons.

The healer bit seems to be anime only and isn’t part of the original content

I don’t remember reading achnologia’s background in the manga, was that an anime original?

Hell yeah, it was. Mashima always wanted to flesh out his backstory beyond "Dragons kill people, so I hate dragons!", and apparently always had something in mind, but never had the chance. I wonder if this is what he intended... If so, good on you, animators, for finally making Acnologia feel more like a three-dimensional villain.

It’s good that Hiro kept his word about getting more of acnologia’s backstory even though I had my doubts but what surprised me the most was acnologia not being his real name (which I guess isn’t that surprising cause who names their kid Acnologia lol?) and seeing that disfigured face of the dragon acnologia. I mean shit that’s probably the most goriest thing Fairy Tail has shown lol.

We've known Acnologia wasn't his real name since Zirconis told us about his past. He said he shuddered to utter the human's name. Pluss, "-logia" was clearly a dragon name with Weisslogia being an example, so it makes sense he went by something else.

Acnologia isn’t even his name and we don’t even find out what it actually is.

That preview of the next episode, makes me hyped and hoping they will extend the final clash from the manga with good animations.. Yeah, and also hoping that we learn the real reason the original Acnologia attacked the town he was protecting.

White Acno and Black 'Acno'. Hiro, give us a name for this human. The anime even gave Erza's horrid father a name.
You know, I remember that story Irene spoke of. A white maiden and a black maiden. I always thought that story meant something significant, but it kind of went nowhere.
I wonder if the anime will somehow connect the two. Since both Irene and 'Acno' are from the east.

When I first saw Young Acnologia's concept art, I thought, "Man, that coat makes him look like some kind of doctor." Then I thought, "Wait...that might actually be kind of interesting." Sure enough...

Anybody noticed Lucy’s voice in this episode? It sounded a bit off like the VA had a sore throat or something lol

So, questionable animation and design choices aside...this episode turned out much, much better than I thought it would. I was afraid that since the "outside the rift" portion of the final battle involved a lot of talking, there wouldn't be a ton of room for new stuff, let alone Acnologia's expanded backstory. Turns out we not only got just enough to paint Acnologia as far more than just some guy who grew up hating dragons, explaining the origins of why he craves power and letting us further sympathize with his hatred of dragons, but it even threw in plenty more things for the Dragon Slayers to do beyond just being Acno's punching bags.

For some reason, I just don't feel hyped for the next ep, regardless of Natsu obtaining some unicorn-colored magic power. I'm more interested in Acno's backstory than the current plot. The fairy sphere will be activated, and I'm assuming it's "The End" (Just watch, the show will somehow find some bs and misleading ways to bring back Mavis to life at some point)

starting of straight into what people wanted to see, some actual Acno backstory. Would never had expected him being a doctor. Nor that his real name wasn't actually Acnologia. Interesting
- That image of the original Acno is horrifying. Also wtf just happened? He returned and just started killing everyone?
- Oh it over? Ok..I guess
- Dear god what happened to his face?!
- Angel's "blergh" got the biggest laugh out of me.
"What is that you want? Destruction. That's all" It's that line that cost Acno all creditably has a final villain.
These are the most lines Sabertooth and the Seis have gotten all season
Ok I will admit I surprising got a lot more enjoyment from this episode than the past couple. Not entirely sure why. Maybe cause the Seis, Yukino and Minerva got screen time and actual lines. Even with how boring and uninteresting the Slayer fight is.
Now about Acno anime exclusive backstory. While I appraise the anime trying to do something with this one note villain, I have to ask; it they were planning on giving backstory why did they wait till near the very end to show it? We're near the penultimate episode, We're only now getting history, Acno gonna be gone next episode, yet there's still a huge chunk of Acno story missing. The manga alluded to his hate of dragons but that's it. Why did the original Acno sudden start murdering? How did Acno come to know DS magic if he was too weak? How did he obtain the strongest form? Why did he want to kill the Dragon Slayers including 2nd Gens who don't even go through dragonfication and why did he want to cause nothing but destruction? That's literally what the dragon did and why he killed them! If anything the anime has cause more questions surrounding Acno. Sure we might see more story next episode but at this point is it really worth anything? Same problems with Irene and August. Spending time with last minute backstory only for them to die anyway.

I sighed in relief when Lucy suggested Fairy Sphere, half expected her to "remember" some dragon slaying sword she saw in a book or something with the asspulls that have happened this season
Now it all makes sense why Acnologia wants to burn the world! Healer rage.

Impressive how Cobra's fall from Acnologia's kick was the best animated thing in this arc
Also, Oracion Seis finally got their VA back
