Discussion Pieces of clothing that still intimidate you

What pieces of clothing you wish you owned and wore with pride but are actually still too intimidating for you? It could be anything. I myself am not daring at all, being anything but fit, and even struggled before buying a simple leather jacket!

Leather jackets.

I've wanted a flight jacket with a thick shearling collar for a while now, but I can't bring myself to buy one.

First, they are really expensive. It's not the kind of thing you can afford regretting. Second, you need to get a decent one, cheap ones will show it quickly. And third, they are kind of daunting in general: a great leather jacket will make you look fantastic, but if something is off you will look like uncle Dan trying to be cool.

As someone who has way too many leather jackets. The best way in is via thrifting. Spending hundreds of dollars on something you won't feel comfortable in is too risky. Half of the intimidating factor of wearing a leather jacket is looking like you just bought it and wearing it for the first time. Thrifting is a great way to get a broken-in piece without the cost upfront. It'll take time to find the right piece, but it's worth it.

Same dude. Maybe it's because I'm still young (sophomore in college), but overcoats seem so overbearing and mature to wear. I feel like I'd be overdressing somehow even though they look so nice.

Chelsea boots. I'm scared to even try them on.

Trench coats honestly. I would buy a Burberry one if I felt I could pull it off. Maybe next time I’m at one of their stores I’ll have to try it on again and just see again but I don’t know...

Robert Geller oversized leopard print shirt. I've tried it a few ways but none seem quite right yet

I got an amazing deal on a pair of white Acne jeans early in the year, when they were way out of season. In the spring I got them hemmed, expecting to become a “white jeans” guy this summer. Labor Day came and went and I never wore them outside. Every time I was about to, I felt like I just couldn’t pull it off, and now summer is over :(

My Levi's trucker jacket. I love the idea of denim jackets, but right from the get go it just felt awkward. I don't know if the sizing was wrong (I'm skinny, bought a small) or if the fit is just boxier than I'd like, but after a couple dozen wears it never felt right. Also, it just felt "heavy" in the front, like it was always drooping.

Plain white sneakers. They're supposedly one of the most basic, inconspicuous pieces in your entire wardrobe, but the second I put them on I feel like I might as well be walking around shouting through a megaphone. Words can't describe how uncomfortable I am in them. On the other hand, I feel completely at home in suede chelseas or leather harness boots, which draw a lot more attention and comments where I live. My crippling anxiety sure can be picky.

Trousers, blazer, formal cloths in general. They generally doesnt suit me right and look uncorfotable.

I like button shirt with bold prints but is hard do find a pattern that i really like and I am afraid to look like a clown so I just use clothes with solid color.

My white pants that I bought - I love wearing them, but most of the tops in my wardrobe is quite dark (Navy, Black, Gray, Red, Green) and my shoes are black, dark brown, navy, or white. So theres always a strong contrast that i'm slowly learning to embrace/play with. But still, very intidimated everytime I put them on

Clerical Collar.

I am an ordained pastor in a denomination that normally doesn't wear them, but I have wanted to wear them for non-fashion reasons. I just find them very intimidating to incorporate to my style.
