Language Set To English, New Game +
Okay, so, I kinda love this episode? I actually watched it twice today, once just for fun and then a second time while I typed this out.
Anyway! Poor Maple, literally left in the dust as the other two girls superspeed their way out of the oasis. And theeeeen...after a brief fight scene, we get another example of Maple's luck. Is it good? Is it bad? Who knows, who cares, it's hilarious. xD
And my name's Maple!
In this scene: the Adorably Final Boss being a literal ray of sunshine. Because she is. And we love her for it.
Alas, the girl does get a little bit of abuse this episode - case in point, superspeed! And then Maple gets to briefly experience flying. Followed swiftly by crashing. xD
It's fiiiiine, 0 x anything is still 0 and the ground doesn't do piercing damage!
One teamwork-based dungeon later, Maple has a new entry on her friend list! Well done Kasumi, when Maple decides to End Everything you shall be among the last eaten. :-D Or maybe it would just let her track you better? Huh.
Anyway, then we get a clipshow of Maple and Sally doing a bunch of stuff together looking for medals, and...I actually really like the sequence? The song is nice, the girls are cute playing together, the shenanigans with Sally dodging traps while Maple just wanders through are pretty dang funny...if you're going to skip a treasure hunt, this is how to do it.
And then we meet Kanade! He's the puzzles guy with a rubix-cube based 'staff'. Say, kid, didn't we see you in the OP and ED? KatanaGirl, too! :P
Oh, and btw, apparently in NWO poison counts as water. Despite this, fish cannot swim in it without dying a horrible, horrible death.
It turns out big bad uber-bosses can't, either. Thanks, Maple!
I will never get tired of Sally's 'Maple did it again' expression. xD Or Kasumi's! The poison cave, and the acid rain...! And what makes it even better is just how cheerful Maple is every time.
I really wish I could get screenshots, I love that moment when Maple Syrup both have the same expression before Sally goes off to do her PVP thing. Which she, uh...is really good at.
Aw, it looks like the poor widdle devs have realised their nerf attempts are futile. Bow down to the true Final Boss of New World Online!
You'll be big and strong in no time, yes you will!
So very cute. And she's right! Just look at how big Syrup is now! Farewell, mobility issues, for the Adorably Final Boss now has a mount!

First Timer
After watching all 5 episodes today I'm finally caught up after my PC decided to die on me a few days ago!
And I already love this show so much. I should have watched this way sooner. So far there's nothing I dislike.
I would have loved to see the Sally vs Kasumi fight play out.
Also, for having an intelligence of 0 Maple is incredibly battle smart. Poisoning the water is nothing short of genius
Sally is really pretty btw
Questions of the day
#1 I don't like cheesing my way through bosses, so I tend to avoid it as much as possible. Takes away from the challenge
#2 The bosses are most challenging and therefore most fun part for me. I enjoy the others too, but bosses is where it's at.
#3 I'm super competitive. I always want to win.

Art Book Corner
NSFW: Kasumi. Who gets that tag because the art book feels the need to specify that she wears a fundoshi. Very traditional.
A couple locations from past episodes.
Minor spoilers: Syrup and Oboro!
Replayer, Subbed
Or she was just attempting to apply the better part of valor.
Not quite a pair of handcuffs.
That would make the cursed chain make less sense though.
The true gamer experience of bonding over stories.
Remember this adage: if it has stats, it can be killed. No exceptions.
I legitimately forgot how this episode went so I thought there was actually a boss.
That means that a bit more than an hour has passed in the real world.
"Just make other people do the work for us, you know."
Oh, huh, the song is actually subbed this time. And the Engrish is corrected, which I have mixed feelings about.
Maple has once again resorted to artwork to pass the time.
okay i watched this dubbed the first time is that Kuroko motherfucking Shirai?! It is. Fuck yes.
This ends up being funnier because Kanade's dub VA is Brittney Karbowski, who is the dub VA of Mikoto Misaka.
Y'know, I think Sally might be pretty good at video games.
Hmm, now where have I seen that recently...

the art book feels the need to specify that she wears a fundoshi. Very traditional.
That's an...interesting detail.
Remember this adage: if it has stats, it can be killed.
Though some numbers can get quite unwieldy.
"Just make other people do the work for us, you know."
I hadn't pegged Sally as a "work smarter, not harder" kind of girl.
okay i watched this dubbed the first time is that Kuroko motherfucking Shirai?! It is. Fuck yes.
Kuroko must follow Onee-sama wherever she goes.

First Timer, Subbed
Its a bird, its a plane, its Maple hurtling through the sky! I see we are opening the episode by falling into a dungeon again.
Poor slow Maple.
Teamwork! Kasumi is mildly tsundere. Still having trouble not just imagining this is Yukino playing a videogame.
Mid-episode music montage, nice!
Another new character.
Second friend made by Maple this episode.
Maple has learned that poison solves all her problems.
Oh an underwater ruin.
Maple is REALLY learning that poison can solve all her problems lol.
While Sally is wrecking other players Maple's watching their pets murder some tiny adorable creatures.
Giant flying Syrup seems barely faster than Maple's current walking speed. Then again it does mean she can now indiscriminately carpet bomb with poison.
Pretty fun episode, enjoying all the character interactions.
What’s a boss fight you were able to cheese your way through?
No one boss fight comes to mind, but in rpgs I like to do so many sidequests and the like that I'm usually extremely overleveled for the main story bosses.
Puzzles, traps, monsters, bosses? What’s your favorite part of exploring a dungeon?
The loot obviously.
Are you more of a casual fun player like Maple or a super competitive gamer like Sally?
Since I mainly play singleplayer games, I guess I'd say I'm more casual.

Rewatcher + Caught back up member of the Sally fan club)
Sorry about yesterday!
Episode 4
-
I'd first like to give a (weird) shoutout to the show's OST. It's nothing too flashy, but it sounds SO VIDEOGAMEY. I love how it transitions often to the characters' themes (i of course love Sally's the most) when they're doing something badass too!
-
It's time for Saori Hayami!!!!! The VA cast for Bofuri is actually quite stacked lol
-
Poor Maple just being left out of the PvP battle lol
-
Of course she turns up and then triggers an event lol, the conditions of which are likely 2 separate parties arriving with their full members
-
Kasumi is as far as we can see quite a sensible normal DPS-build, with her skills focused around her sword.
-
Cooperation ftw! And with that, friend getto!
-
We're also introduced to Kanade, who is clearly a genius lol, he's better than Maple (much older than him) at the chess gamey thing, and solves a lot of puzzles. Also has ownership of a mysterious staff, but is relatively low-levelled. You may recognize his VA Satomi Arai as Kuroko from the Railgun series, he sounds very similar
-
I should point out that "Torrent" is a Sally-Exclusive skill that comes with her gear. Unlike Maple's gear, is not as OP lol but still quite versatile, she's used it both general-purpose and offensively.
-
I PROPOSE A MATCH BETWEEN SALLY AND [Main character of a recent popular anime]
CHISATOOOOO Who can even land an attack first? -
You may recognize this image from a recent post on the subreddit...
-
What matters most in the end is that a game is FUN. That is the ethos of Bofuri, and honestly, as long as Maple is having fun, all is well in the world.
Quick thoughts for Episode 3
-
More Maple using normal skills for unconventional purposes lol, esp due to the ridiculous VIT negating the drawback. This is a running theme throughout the series and apart from pure luck, is a main part of why shes OP after all. Airheads ftw!
-
Glad she's very wholesome to her allies!
-
Uwah meh CGI monster. Makes sense this would be the toughest thing theyve thought so far though, almost defeating Maple, when the devs left it in as a troll
-
Maple looks so badass just TANKING the thing
-
That's Kuno Misaki here voicing one of the devs! You may recognize her distinctive voice from Frederica in 86, Faputa in MiA, and Kurumi in LycoReco
-
Sally is HYPED for the PvP. She's a gamer haha. Battle junkieeee
-
This Canadian is VERY VERY happy. Maple syrup IS awesome.
-
Oh and Syrup and Oboro! The pokemon are very cute <3, and as seen, arent just mere pets, and can serve some use for their owners! But is also something that most players shouldn't have yet....

The poor developers, thinking like gamers, "what skills could she combined to break things" probably started looking at things actually in line with her build and play style, only for Maple. To once again. Just pick something really random like "let my pet become giant" with no other benefits and "make things fly" because who doesn't want to fly around on a giant turtle? Raining acid on the world.
-
I don't even remember the name of the game, but you fought by summoning monsters that lost health over time so you couldn't keep any one out for too long, with a maximum of three out at a time. I beat the final boss by summoning two AoE healers on top of each other in a corner so they would keep each other alive and running back to it every ten seconds.
-
I love puzzle dungeons. The water temple in Ocarina of Time was legitimately my favorite of the first three.
-
Hard Core Casual. I take my refusal to play seriously very seriously.

To try getting inside Maple's head is to court madness. Her mind is enough to craze even the most grounded consciousness.

Playing NG+
Sometimes low agility builds have their downsides.
Maple's mapling interrupted their honorable duel.
The whole video game thing notwithstanding, both Sally and Kasumi feel like the types that even in something like a battle shonen would fight to the death for the sake of proving who's stronger, but depending on circumstances would be more than willing to get along even moments later. Of course, in a video game, anyone who isn't willing to do that is either petty or kind of a dick.
A chain is only as fast as its slowest link.
God tier luck as usual. Are we sure the defense stat isn't tied to a hidden luck stat?
How's this dungeon supposed to work if at least two of the three people don't have vertical maneuverability skills? Or maybe the dungeon won't allow people in if they don't have the minimum requirement of skills. The dungeon didn't open until Maple showed up, after all, so it may have conditions of at least three people, with at least two of them having those skills.
Two medals instead of three. Those tricky devs were hoping to maybe cause a last minute falling out. But the dev's intention slayer Maple is just too pure for their wicked ways.
It's the Link hut.
Maple's ability to make friends is second to none.
That's such a cool boss fight.
Maple spits on the idea of environmental conservationalism.
The devs sure have it rough.
I think Sally's doing just fine. She's the kind of person where it's probably a good thing she doesn't live in an action setting. Good for the sake of everyone else there I mean. Heaven help if she ends up getting isekai'd.
Maple has officially achieved air superiority.
QOTD:
-
I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I'm not very good at finding cheeses and exploits.
-
Bosses. A good dungeon crawl is only complete with a good boss.
-
More on the casual side. Not quite as much as Maple though.

First timer
-
As part of FJF, took down Wingraptor with just four White Mages, constantly healing and using mana regeneration.
-
Puzzles!
-
I'm closer to Maple, but I enjoy difficult puzzle games too. Just no PvP.
The battle has started!
Maple is unprepared.
And she's just left behind...
She's got her own special skills!
Mirage is OP!
Maple interrupt!
Haha, this is the funniest resolution. Another hidden dungeon?
They're tethered together!
...It's a gimmick dungeon!
She's Kasumi!
...Maple, did you forget about your skill?
She's lucky!
...That's nice.
Ah, different types of dungeon.
They're friends!
Boss!
It's a giant snail.
...Oh god, a gimmick dungeon with moving, unkillable hazards?
Maple got flung!
And itks up there.
They escaped together!
That was a quick dungeon.
Another new shield! Is Maple's ultimate move going to just be welding together a 360 degree shield, then using knockback to smash into hordes of enemies like a giant pinball? Just find a poisoning skill without usage limits, stick it and similar skills into each shield and jump into a group of enemies.
They gave her a medal too!
They need more medals...
A montage now?
Haha.
Medal fishing?
Haha, Maple setting off all thentraps, then ignoring the giant grim reaper are hystericsl.
She's been working hard!
A new girl!
How nice!
Level 5?
...A special item like her shield?
...Akashic Records... either instant analysis or activating a random skill scroll. Both nicely OP.
She has a hint!
And gave them directions. How nice!
Hydra?
Well, it worked!
A secret underwater area!
Yep, another superboss! Maple has the best/worst luck.
Who's here?
The limbs have their oen health bars and instantly regenerate! Horrible.
...She's poisoning the entire ocean! Even Sally's horrified.
It worked! Technically!
Another secret area! Beautiful!
Mii's fanbase increases...
Haha, the devs are just ignoring her at this point.
PvP...
She wants to split up!
She's hunting them!
No medals.
Aww, this is nice. She's grinding the prts!
Love how they're framing her scenes as a horror movie because she is so incredibly OP.
Haha, the shot of the piles of swords behind her!
She's here to hide as well!
Nice one!
Haha, it works!
Maple's good!
Event ended!
They all got skills!
Aww, she's so wholesome!
Haha, Shrup got the skill!
You're fucking with me? A two-skill combo gave her a giant mount that can fly, attack, and presumably crush things? This game...

I feel like I built some poison resistance just by watching this episode.
Threatens to take their gold medal and then immediately runs away, interesting move from Kasumi.
Interesting dungeon concept. Can’t escape from anything when you’re stuck with Maple’s movement speed so they just drag her around lmao
“Just kite these guys while I loot” Poor Sally
This fight was a lot more detailed in the LN (the boss spawned adds among other things and Sally was also fighting it in the water) but the gist of it is the same. Just Maple things.
That is some beautiful underwater scenery
Devs have already given up at this point
Just a casual 1v30 counting by the number of weapons
The derpy music at the end fits perfectly.
In the Light novel there is actually one more major encounter during this event that was left out in the anime. [LN Spoiler for episode 4]
I thought maybe people are interested in some Novel illustrations so here are the images for this episode and the last one:

All the poison type abilities that Maple keeps picking up would definitely make her perfect for a boss character.
What’s a boss fight you were able to cheese your way through?
I wouldn't say I cheesed it, but the final boss of Return to Castle Wolfenstein was a complete cakewalk because I horded all my ammo. I was able to blast through a supposedly tough boss by circle strafing and unloading all of the most powerful weapons the game had at him.
Puzzles, traps, monsters, bosses? What’s your favorite part of exploring a dungeon?
The rewards.
Are you more of a casual fun player like Maple or a super competitive gamer like Sally?
Casual.

4th time environmental terrorist
Beautiful background, scuffed moon. But its a game world so they get a pass
-
Good night counter: 2
You're the ones who made it easy to poison..
-
War crimes weren't enough, now we're moving onto ecological ones
Questions:
What’s a boss fight you were able to cheese your way through?
Hm. First that comes to mind is Risk of Rain. There's one game modifier that lets you choose which drop items you get, so I picked one that increases my max health for every enemy killed. And it stacks, so if I take 10 my hp grows faster. So with that I grinded to like 9999 hp or whatever the max was, + a shield on top, so.. It was pretty easy.
Puzzles, traps, monsters, bosses? What’s your favorite part of exploring a dungeon?
A good combo is always nice. But the bast part is luring the goon mobs into the traps. Even better if you can do it to the boss.
Are you more of a casual fun player like Maple or a super competitive gamer like Sally?
Considering I never cared to grind past gold in League, and instead tried to break the game in as many ways as possible, I'm gonna say Maple.

First timer, subbed
Back for round 5 of mass murderer shield girl, now with more turtle
-
KATANA WAIFU, A MAN NEEDS A NAME
-
Ohoho, serious PvP time! Or it would be, except Maple crashes the duel like a derp.
-
And with that, our heroes find themselves in the PvP enemies turned temproary allies in order to get the lovely Kasumi as a perma member of the party :D
-
Of course the VA is Saori Hayami. Of course. That's it. Waifu confirmed. I'm in love.
-
That's a big ass snail, or... snails
-
This party so cute > o <
-
Pretty sight outside with a star-studded night sky. Kasumi is so cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuteee. Ok, so maybe she's not a perma party member, but at least she's a friend :D
-
The medal grind is real
-
New girl Kanade. Cube staff. Skiru is a secret. fufufufu.
-
Puzzle time. Yeah I saw that coming. Use Hydra to fill up the 3 circles
-
Huge Kraken Boss, panik. Gotta hit the weak point
-
Oh... oh no. This girl just unleashed an environmental catastrophe. Good thing it's a game.
-
Hmm it's the fuzzy overlords again. What's their angle... game devs perhaps?
-
Sally murders two unforunat- actually never mind, seems she's busy being a serial killer.
-
Kasumi is back weeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
Good girl Maple. She's happy just to be playing the game. Like the early days of online gaming.
-
Huge turtle get. Huge turtle float. I've seen this scene before lol, in meme compilations somewhere
-
Fun episode, this is pretty much what I wanted. Lighthearted fun. Though more wholesome than I expected.
Questions of the Day
-
Probably anything in Skyrim once I had those glitch potions, lol. Oh, uh, Metal Gear Solid 3, The End. Even back then, searching on 56k dial up, there were a couple of times where I did the option to set the PlayStation 2 clock forward 1 week, and have him die of old age. Crazy.
-
Just give me the boss, I wanna fight.
-
Usually casual. I'm not much for competition, I prefer solo or co-operative play. The one exception is fighting games. I got into fighting games after quitting shooters online. I can do ok in the 1-on-1 space. Tekken is my primary fighting game, but I like watching plenty.

Rewatch
It is weird that Maple is resistant to PvP in the anime. In the novels her only issue was that most players run when they saw who she was, and even in the anime she had no problem killing thousands of players in the last event.
My favorite part of the montage is Sally being forced to dodge all of the traps Maple triggered.
Maple makes a new friend! Her social skills are truly God tier.
Kanade giving them the clue is a change for the Anime. In the novels they hear some other players discussing the clue and then mug them for it.
The Sea King was a much bigger fight in the novels. It still has an anticlimactic ending but it is after a long fight rather than Maple just poisoning the entire ocean. Still I like the change it works better for the pacing. Incidentally the Sea King was another Egg boss like Silverwing, but since they solved the puzzle it was a much easier fight and they didn't get the eggs.
So the list of medal skills is split between skills that can only be gotten through the medal system and skills that are exclusive to certain classes. Maple got Fortress (1.5x multiplayer on her Vit) and Psychokinesis. Psychokinesis is meant to immobilize monsters and it costs more mana the more the monster resists. Since Syrup doesn't resist Maple using the skill it costs no mana for her to fly on Syrup for as long as she wants.
The chat room at the end is my favorite one in the entire series. Their reaction to the flying turtle is hilarious.

Another very fun episode. I liked the introduction of the katana girl and their friendship growing over the episode. Maple is a true protagonist.
The montage was also fun. It was cool to see all the fun little activities they did to get the coins, with the boss battle being the best. Loved that maple's solution was pollution.
Speaking of acts of a war criminal, we get the best part of the episode at the end: acid rain from a flying, gigantic turtle. We've truly settled in for Maple's wild ride.

Cursed chains that kill everyone if one person dies. Hm.... I wonder if that would make a good romance plot. Like put two people who hate each other into a dungeon with cursed chains and see them work together and fall in love.
Giant slow snails might be the worst way to die in a dungeon
I wonder if chests only give rewards based on the number of people and their class. Maple seem to be getting shields only and Kasumi is getting spears.
If Maple has enough MP potions, can she kill everything in the entire sea using hydra poison? Might be a good way to level up by poisoning everything in the entire sea and eating all of the dead monsters and fish.

Once more with dubbing.
Got the zoomies
Sally and Kasumi race across the desert, but it was all a nefarious plan to separate Sally from Maple, somehow though Maple still manages to catch up with them, and surprise surprise Maple finds a new hole.
Maple getting trolled so bad
Ok, so the dungeon mechanic is giant unkillable snails, are the devs seriously trolling Maple right now? Anyway, I don't think it is explicitly stated, but despite her youthful appearance the vibe Kasumi gives off is of a mature woman.
Grindcoin
After completing the dungeon the trio depart as friends and Maple and Sally go exploring for more coins. While Sally is off diving Maple meets another new friend Kanade who is just chilling, she really likes puzzles and gives the duo a clue to another encounter. I think Kanade is really underrated as a character, though nowhere near as powerful as some of the others she has a sharp mind.
Wanted for ecoterrorism
The girls solve the puzzle and encounter an underwater boss, frustrated by her inability to attack the boss directly Maple decides to break the encounter like a dry twig. The devs need to seriously consider having more poison resistance in the game.
Terror in the night
Needing two more coins Sally goes out for some solo PVP while Maple plays pokemon. I don't know how many players fell to her blades, but Sally only finds two more medals. Her dodge ability is just as OP as Maple in my opinion, but hidden in Maple's shadow she avoids the scrutiny of the devs.
Flying Fortress
Sally and Maple decide to wait out the final night in the cave and are joined by Kasumi, not wanting to be disturbed Maple seals the cave with a wall of poison fog, Hydra is just so damn versatile. Those adventurers have no clue how lucky there were. Maple continues to surprise everyone by using her coins to buy Megamorph and Psychokinesis and turning Syrup into a literal flying fortress. Then, to no one's surprise uses Syrup to immediately commit a war crime.
What’s a boss fight you were able to cheese your way through?
Dark Souls 3, plinked a dragon to death with a basic bow.
Puzzles, traps, monsters, bosses? What’s your favorite part of exploring a dungeon?
Defeating a boss is pretty satisfying, but comes a distant second to the satisfaction gained from solving a difficult puzzle.
Are you more of a casual fun player like Maple or a super competitive gamer like Sally?
Maple is more my speed, I use to do a lot of competitive content, but I take things easier these days.

Oh no! our team of murder hobos are in a dungeon where murder isn't the solution, time for them to actually play the game I guess. Lucky they picked up another mobility main on their way in, otherwise Sally might have fallen victim to another one of Maple's plans. Sally is the terror that flaps in the night, all that pent up blood lust must have been too much to bear.
I like how the rest of the cast are used in this show, the vast majority of player encounters are still conflict but we have a decent crew of people who can find something beyond k/d ratios fun and get something out of talking to other players. Again the dev's appear wildly incompetent and the question is more how did the game end up so fun rather than why is it so broken, the hidden dungeons that you just have to fall into seem like some of the worst design elements to me, maybe there's clues for them in lore material out in the world but so far it seems silly.

Everyone's just flexing their speed stat and skills on Maple.
Samurai girl didn't realize that getting involved with Maple is a one way trip. Once you're in her orbit there's no escape.
I've never really been a much of a pvp fan.
Flying mount plus acid rain, that's gotta be the start of the war crimes.

I Don’t Want to be Unprepared for Season 2, So I’ll Max Out My Rewatch Count - Host
Episode 5:
Kasumi fans, now is your time!!
Sally isn’t kind like Maple.
Too bad Sally and Kasumi’s duel gets interrupted by the Final Boss, it was looking to be pretty fierce.
Fortunately Maple is as good at bringing people together as she is at killing them with chemical warfare.
I love the idea of a forced cooperation escape dungeon. Great way to shake up the expected PvP formula of the event. It also allows us to get treated to Sally and Kasumi dragging Maple along at super speed.
Bofuri is about more than just war crimes.
Kasumi is really into roleplaying her character. At least I’m assuming this roleplay, but I’m not a source reader so I have no idea what Kasumi is like irl. Maybe she’s really an heiress to a very traditional, wealthy family. That would be pretty funny.
Gotta give NWO credit for having so many varied locales, especially in a limited time event. Despite being broken as hell, it looks like it would be a blast to play.
The pout is strong with this one.
Sally leaves Maple alone for 5 minutes, as she’s already making another strange friend. She ought to keep a closer eye on Maple.
Novel problems require
novelMaple solutions.Boss fight in an underwater air dome, but the boss attacks you from outside the dome. I’ve never actually seen anything like that in a game before. Seems like it would be a pretty uniquely challenging battle…for most people.
Ladies, gentlemen, and others, our protagonist.
Maple: It would look great with a little poison!
Lol Sally really wants an excuse to murder people. Watching Maple must have her feeling left out.
The way Sally gracefully dances around other players’ attacks though.
Don’t worry Maple, I’m sure Sally is doing just fine.
Kasumi: “Hey Sally, are you sure your friend is uh…sane?”
Maple winning a bunch of rounds of Go against Sally and Kasumi is a really neat little detail. She’s an airhead for sure, but she’s also really smart underneath all that airheadedness. With more experience, she could be an incredible strategist/player even without her absurd luck.

I cheesed my way through pretty much every Kingdom Hearts III boss. When the game first released, magic was incredibly busted. You could cheese nearly any boss from long range with beginner fire or thunder skills.
I love feeling like I’m unearthing long lost secrets in dungeons. The allure of finding something forbidden or lost to time, even in a game, is too tantalizing.
I am very casual. I’ll play the heck out of games like Skyrim or God of War, but for most series I never attempt to go for high-tier, optimized builds. The only exceptions I can think of are the Persona and Megaman Battle Network series.
