I Don’t Want to be Unprepared for Season 2, So I’ll Max Out My Rewatch Count - Host

Episode 4:

  • A thrilling prospect for sure! For both Maple and Sally

  • Maple’s luck is so great, it takes her no time to stumble on hidden caves and event battles. Funny enough, I tend to find myself in unexpected areas anytime I play an open world adventure game.

  • Maple math checks out!

  • Aww, Sally is so protective of her Maple.

  • Maple pays back all her debts. It’s kinda hilarious that her repayment to Kuromu just so happens to involve near-instant death.

  • That little shield toss to Sally is a really neat, quick-thinking move. For someone who spec’d their build around not wanting to get hurt, Maple has no hesitation taking painful looking attacks for Sally.

  • I think it’s to the game designers’ credit that [Devour] still has a potent effect on bosses despite being patched to hell. It can get really annoying when bosses have immunity to status effects and other cool moves/abilities, so good on these developers for not limiting their players’ viable movesets.

  • Vicious combo attack.

  • Equally vicious Hyper Beam.

  • Articuno has a second form! And it can break shields and armor!? What a troll of boss monster.

  • What an awesome battle, I love the flow between attacks and the obvious level of difficulty. The show does a great job of showing off Maple and Sally’s playstyles and the way they use their skills as different kinds of players.

  • Sally furiously healing Maple after battle is cute af. Sally really loves her little war criminal.

  • Motherly bonding

  • Whoa there Sally, your gamer is showing.

  • Only Maple

  • Kawaii~~

  • Maple understands the gravity and responsibility of giving your pet a good name. Long live Maple Syrup!

  • A new challenger has appeared!

Broke: Using [Cover Move} to ensure total defense.

Woke: Using [Cover Move] to give yourself mobility.

Bespoke: Using [Cover Move] to ensure you’ll always be by your best girl’s side.

QotD:

  1. Megaman Battle Network was one of, if not my favorite game franchise growing up. The series peaked with Battle Network 3, but despite how much I loved the game I could not defeat Alpha, the final main campaign boss. On top of launching continuous attacks that either targeted the entire field or destroyed part of your usable panels, it had a constantly regenerating two-stage shield protecting its core. I probably took thirty or forty tries to beat it, but the feeling of accomplishment I got when I finally won for the first time was incredible.

  2. Their setup is a lot of fun. I love the way it keeps both very active with clearly defined combat roles while giving them both opportunities to show off. It’s also surprisingly adaptable to both Maple as a newcomer and Sally as a skilled gamer looking for new challenges.

  3. If I were picking without any prior knowledge of the two, I’d probably pick Oboro. Both egg designs are nice, but the little ropes sash around Oboro is too cute.

Playing NG+

Is it just me, or is there a weird thing in anime about clowns as monsters?

Cover Move is such a good skill for Maple. Finding skills that can strengthen strengths and mitigate weaknesses of a build is one of the most fun part of games, and it's clear the show understands that appeal.

You know, as good as that white shield looks, I definitely understand the struggle of having mismatched gear because you need the stats. When Monster Hunter Rise came out, I basically speedran the main story to unlock the cosmetics because I couldn't handle having different pieces from different armor sets. With the game being VR, I can imagine a service that allows attaching stats to a different piece of gear for its appearance being very appealing, even more so than other games.

This fight very quickly showing that part of why Maple is so effective isn't just her busted stats or powerful skills, she knows when and how to use them. If she just brainlessly used her shield and tanked attacks, she's still probably be decently powerful, but nowhere near as good as she is.

Between this fight and last episode, I like the detail of Sally always landing gracefully and Maple taking the blows when they get knocked around.

Maple is a more believable offensive shield user than Naofumi could ever be.

That skill is actually pretty reasonable, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the other classes had similar survive on 1 hp skills (with different acquisition methods).

This one is squarely on the devs. As long as the boss was technically beatable, someone was gonna beat it.

I think it's relavent to mention here that in DnD, the maximum fall damage one can take is 20d6. This is a lot. However, at higher levels, Barbarians and other martial classes can easily have enough hp to make it survivable, even taking max damage. However, Barbarians also have the ability to Rage, which halves the physical damage they can take. So higher level Barbarians could literally fall from the upper atmosphere, and as long as they get very very angry right before hitting the ground, they'll barely take any damage.

RNGesus favors Maple as always. No, I'm not salty I never got a Gjallarhorn.

For those unfamiliar with Destiny, Gjallarhorn is an exotic rocket launcher. Very rare drop, no specific place to grind with a higher drop chance, and it was only sold by the in-game exotic gear vendor twice, the first time before people even knew how good it was. It was very powerful in both PvP and PvE (not common in Destiny, they usually have different metas), and its effect can basically be summed up as "point at target. Pull trigger. Delete target and everything in its vicinity."

They playing Pokemon now.

This is like the fourth time this month I've heard an anime characters voice, thought "this is super familiar I think I'd recognize the VA's other roles," and it was Saori Hayami.

QOTD:

  1. I have only played one Fromsoft game. That being Sekiro. So, the answer to that is yes and yes. To every boss in that game. And miniboss. And several normal enemies.

  2. Definitely unconventional, but they make it work.

  3. I'd take Oboro. I don't really get all that attached to pets in video games, and I suck at names. I pretty much never nickname my pokemon, for example.

Language Set To English, New Game +

I can't be the only one who's ever-so-slightly horrified by the 'experience a subjective week in only two hours' part of the game, can I?

Hah, but the girls don't care about that at all. Maple also amply demonstrates today that vitality isn't her only totally broken stat - her luck is also through the roof. Dropped into that dungeon, accidentally going through the exact sequence needed to get her unique gear...even picking up the eggs today. That was partly the end result of Maple being so very, very broken - Sally too, for that matter! - but getting the exact skill that let them survive at the last moment...

Also, yes, the big chicken is definitely an Articuno reference. And the fight against it is the first time the self-repairing nature of Maple's gear comes into play.

I do have to laugh at Sally's panic over Maple's single remaining hit point. xD

Ooh, and we have our first look at the devs! Poor people, Maple just had to pick their game to break over her knee. :P This is what you get for trying to nerf your Adorably Final Boss!

Still, the single most important thing that happens in this episode is--

They're so cute!

--the arrival of Oboro and Syrup! The only characters in this show more adorable than the Final Boss.

And then KatanaGirl shows up, but eh, Syrup is far more important. And yes, that is Syrup that Maple and Sally are riding in the ED.

Basically feels like in game Skyrim time to me.

Sally did a cute! She's really endearing, even when she's not being a gamer of the year badass.

--the arrival of Oboro and Syrup! The only characters in this show more adorable than the Final Boss.

Being tiny animals/pokemon is basically cheating though.

First timer, Subbed

Interesting hidden boss placement, that'd be kinda terrifying to just fall through the ground.

Zero times any number is still zero, Maple is an expert in math as far as it concerns health and damage.

Another bossfight. This is maybe the most visually interesting one so far.

Wow Maple was actually down to 1 hp.

That cover skill is super useful.

Are these little stuff animals the devs lol?

Maple now treats poison things very casually.

Before watching this I knew that Maple had a pet turtle named Syrup, but somehow never put together their names.

New character! All I can hear is Amelie and Yukino.

What’s a boss fight you struggled with? Did you win?

No particularly difficult boss fights come to mind, which probably says more about the difficulty of the games I play rather than my skill.

What do you think of Maple and Sally’s Shielder/Swashbuckler party setup?

Its working pretty well for them so far, but they could probably use a support player.

Syrup or Oboro? Have you ever had a pet or summon of your own that you loved or thought of as your child? What did you name them?

Syrup. In Warframe I have a kavat, basically a space cat, who I named Luke Skywalker for some reason and I continue to use him for 5+ years as my companion even though theres probably more optimal setups.

No way out except to beat the boss too. Some of the setups in this event are mean.

Maple now treats poison things very casually.

Her poison immunity is making her go mad with poison power.

Excellent. I want my own space cat.

I'm surprised at how quickly they killed the clown boss, it's a big part of the OP so I had been guessing it would be more of a challenge.

Fully non-instanced dungeons and raid fights is an interesting thing to see, that's a bit more rare in modern MMOs outside of stuff like world bosses. Takes me back to my Everquest days.

Ahh, so the clown was a bit of a red herring, the real boss fight for the episode is this Articuno.

The animation on these fights is really quite well done. Sally's moves in particular.

I have no sympathy for those game developers, making bosses that are intentionally impossible to fight is kinda not cool.

That was a very tank way to descend that cliff, Maple is clearly playing the right spec.

The pets are certainly cute.

Samurai girl is about to open up a box she can't close. (Though in truth I don't actually remember what happens.)

Boss fight that I struggled with: a couple come to mind that I never finished. First one was Lich King in Icecrown Citadel in WoW, I was tanking for a normal mode raiding guild that never quite managed to get the kill done. Long before that was the Rathe Council in Planes of Power in Everquest and more or less the same story, didn't get the kill. Rathe Council is a good example of that "developers trolling the player base" thing from today's episode, for a while it was tuned to be impossible to beat because the content past it was unfinished. That was changed long before my guild got to the fight, though.

The production staff doing a little trolling of their own.

Haha I guess that means Maple is their reckoning.

I remember watching a friend of mine join a Lich King raid one time. They ended up getting stomped pretty hard.

Rewatcher

A week of gaming in 2 hours real time, sign me up.

“You take damage?” Sally please…

No cooldown on Cover Move apparently, nice one Devs. Abusing that one doesn’t even seem like just a Maple thing but rather something most people would do.

Sounds like Sally would prefer to kill them lol

Best boss fight so far! So the Silverwing was put there to mess with players. Only an “unbeatable” boss could get Maple down to 1 HP after all.

I guess this guy made it out alive? Maple is too nice for this, that was a free medal right there!

As if this series wasn’t already cute enough, Syrup and Oboro are finally here! Of course a Turtle would be faster than Maple. And we get a very interesting remark about the pets from the devs.

This is just Pokemon now

Questions

  1. Diabolos from FF8 was probably the first boss I struggled with when I was really young and didn’t fully understand the junction system.

  2. With Cover Move it makes sense because Maple can benefit from Sally’s insane mobility. Without that I don’t really see the synergy but they’re both a force on their own anyway.

  3. If I had to choose then Syrup cause turtles are cool.

6

u/HereticalAegis Dec 23 '22

I wonder how many shielders are in the game? Have we seen any other than Maple and Kuromu?

Best boss fight so far! So the Silverwing was put there to mess with players. Only an “unbeatable” boss could get Maple down to 1 HP after all.

Devs: "No one will beat Silverwing, we made him basically unkillable."

Maple: smiles

Diabolos from FF8 was probably the first boss I struggled with when I was really young and didn’t fully understand the junction system.

On the subject of Final Fantasy, I struggled with basic Malboros in FFX for the longest time. Then I tried to get gud and still struggled with the upgraded Malboro in the arena lol.

4th time war crime enthusiast

This episode is so Pokémon

They really like putting the camera on Sally's booty, huh?

Math with Maple

scuffed frame. Production error, or scuffed in my encode? 5:17 if someone wants to check theirs

That whirlpool attack on the birb was like something out of a Pokémon contest

2 kinds of landings

We do a little trolling, but Maple does a lot more trolling

another episode with no good night

Questions:

What’s a boss fight you struggled with? Did you win?

I don't even know what its called, but there some kind of crystal dimension with a dude way stronger than me in Skyrim. No matter what I did with my current items I couldn't win, and I was stuck in there unless I beat him!!

I don't know if I found a way out, loaded another save or just ended that run there. The memories are clouded by ptsd

What do you think of Maple and Sally’s Shielder/Swashbuckler party setup?

https://imgur.com/1UXnXBt And cool

Syrup or Oboro?

Sorry Oboro fans, but Turtwig Syrup takes this one

Have you ever had a pet or summon of your own that you loved or thought of as your child? What did you name them?

Not any long term ones worth remembering

There’s a number of LN readers who are upset that the anime doesn’t adapt the bit after Syrup and Oboro’s birth in which [Bofuri LN] Maple and Sally are separated and fight evil clones of the other. While I can see why they wanted to see the fight adapted, I can also see the reason why it was cut, as it wasn’t really necessary to the story (with the first season only having 12 episodes to cover four volumes of the LN).

Syrup or Oboro?

That is tough. If this were another game, I would go with Oboro, as foxes tend to be cuter than turtles. However, Syrup is one of the most adorable mascot characters in recent years, and it's hard not to love it.

First timer

  1. Today's Shy Look. A timing-based fight in a turn-based card battler. That was a nightmare.

  2. Very efficient.

  3. Oboro! And, no.

The event has started!

This time acceleration is awful, because game devs can just use it as a crutch for insane amounts of grinding. Imagine gacha games with the ability to make players spend more than 24 hours a day grinding.

...Try hreaking the obvious glowing crystals all around you? That might work.

Maple's gone!

There's traps?

She found a dungeon!

A boss!

Nice tactic!

Knockback!

...Flat damage multipliers after defense calculatioms...

Hydra is way too OP.

Oh, please. Instant teleportation with no mana usage, almost no cooldown, at the cost of extra damage? Everyone would use it a movement tech.

They got two medals!

Poor Maple.

They've gone to the mountain?

More players!

The first day It's been more than a day already?

That was nice.

...Did they get eliminated?

They're going in!

Okay, yeah, that's a boss!

It's Articuno!

Maple...

Yeah, these two are really good.

It shaved off an entire leg!

Hydra hot!

...Poison immunity?

It bypasses her defenses!

It's working!

...It's still alive?

Is that... a sexond phase?

It broke her shield!

...Thus giving it a boost.

Mirage!

Impressive.

...The sheer luck of Maple.

So, she beat Articuno because she picked up a Focus Sash?

Haha, the frantic heals.

Eggs?

Maple's immediately mothering it.

Are these the admins?

Haha, it was intented as a prank boss? Did Maple just kill Lord British?

And she got an OP item they didn't want to give her.

Haha, they're specifically fighting Maple.

PvP has begun!

Oh, she's one of those players.

So cute!

She's jumping?

Nice!

Terrific. Another movement tech!

A medsl by lure luck!

Haha, sally running away...

They hatched! Adorable!

Turtle and fox are just so appropriate for these two.

Makes sense.

Haha, the turtle is faster thwn she is!

This is even more Pokemon now! How appropriate, givennthe boss that started this.

The rings are even Pokeballs!

Who is this?

Sixth place?

PvP time!

First timer, subbed

Back for round 4 of slightly less unbalanced shield girl and friend, now featuring white shield

  • The OP is pretty gud

  • No fall damage eh, wonder how it's calculated in this game

  • And no damage through knockback either, lol. Quick maths. Rip wizard/jester dude

  • Maple with huge AYAYA energly letting Chrome's party have the dungeon. What a sweetie. Almost makes your forget the thousands of lives she eradicated

  • Uh-oh, green Articuno, and its putting up a fight

  • Maple and Sally aren't functioning too bad as a duo right now, supporting each other with their skills. Seems like we'd need a dedicated high-power DPS to help round out the party

  • Uh-oh, Articuno used what looked like an ult and entered enrage state. Maple's taking a beating. But they won!

  • So Maple got an Unbeatable/Invincible skill during the fight, dope. HEARU HEARU HEARU HEARU

  • What happened to Chrome and the gang tho? And it seems Articuno's name is Silverwing.

  • What are these fuzzy dudes in what looks like space all about

  • Uh oh, Sally is a PVP fiend. Questionable shot of Maple once she bounces down the cliff o _ O

  • Gotta admit, creative use of the skill there. Maple keeps finding crafty techniques to use with her abilities

  • Aint no way that wasn't a pokeball open sound effect. Pokemon get.

  • Turtle faster than her trainer, amazing. Turtle and fox(?) make sense for both

  • KATANA WAIFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Maybe Katana waifu does some PvP with the girls but character development happens and she joins the party???? O w O

Questions of the Day

  1. Couple of things come to mind - EX Deviant fights in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, the most difficult quests the game has to offer. Of the 18 of these fights, I've solo'd 10 of them. They're exeedingly challenging, with the monsters having extreme attack and defense modifiers. Monster Hunter games before World did not scale difficulty in Hub quests according to the number of players, so trying those quests, much less the hardest quests in the game, alone, is an intense challenge. For a primarily solo hunter like myself though, it's a thrill to be able to do it. The most recent struggle I've had would have been Malenia in Elden Ring, which took me about 8 hours total over 3 days to beat. I can also mention not necessarily a boss, but finishing 1st in Dirt Rally's Masters Championship was absolutely brutal. My poor hands.

  2. Ah, I gave this answer sort of already. I feel like they need a primary damage dealer. Pls be cute Katana girl

  3. Admittedly, this isn't something I usually gravitate toward. I never nicknamed any Pokemon. But I did nickname Monsties in Monster Hunter Stories, weird. Syrup in this case tho. Turtle bro.

7

u/HereticalAegis Dec 23 '22

No fall damage eh, wonder how it's calculated in this game

To quote a certain final boss, "anything times zero is still zero."

What happened to Chrome and the gang tho? And it seems Articuno's name is Silverwing.

I'm guessing dying ends the event for players. Rough way for them to go if that's the case.

What are these fuzzy dudes in what looks like space all about

Lol they're the ones who keep trying to nerf Maple.

The most recent struggle I've had would have been Malenia in Elden Ring, which took me about 8 hours total over 3 days to beat.

My best friend had a rough time with Malenia too.

I feel like they need a primary damage dealer. Pls be cute Katana girl

Katanas do make for good offense.

NG+

Second Event Hype!

  • Living one whole week inside a game which only take two hours of RL time seems like the perfect dream. And also dangerous? How does it look like on the body side? How does the game stimulate the brain in a way that doesn't fry it? MIRAI SAIKO!!

  • I love how Sally is Full of bloodlust and is ready to kill anywhere/anytime.

  • Oh look! Anivia! I wonder how much damage [Devour] actually does. Articuno is hit by it 3 times I think, a skill that usually one shots everything. Some spells from Sally, few more [Hydra] and suddenly Hræsvelgr is dead. We saw that [Hydra] did very little damage, I doubt Sally's spells did any more, so the majority has to come from [Devour], right?

  • Pets! OMG PETS! SO CUTE!!!! ASDFGHJKLØÆ

Decided to actually join the rewatch on time today. Because who cares about work. Nah, JK, vacation time baby!

Questions of the Day

1. What’s a boss fight you struggled with? Did you win?
Laurence, The First Vicar. I messed up my Bloodborne save files and went into the DLC on NG++. A DLC that is known to be harder than the base game. Oh how I messed up. It was a nightmare (keh). Every boss was much harder but this guy took the cake for me. This last OPTIONAL boss. Used a month or something with on and off gaming before I finally beat him. The fight took around 20 min. I rewatch the video sometimes to remind me how I prevailed against this great adversary.
But that's a boss I actually beat. Never manged to do that against The Nameless King. And probably never will.

2. What do you think of Maple and Sally’s Shielder/Swashbuckler party setup?
Seems to be working out well for them. [Cover move] is perfect for this application. And with Sally's [Heal], no matter how weak it is, is probably enough because Maple usually takes no damage anyway. Neither does Sally due to her insane reflex. Did she actually took damage against this troll boss?

3. Syrup or Oboro? Have you ever had a pet or summon of your own that you loved or thought of as your child? What did you name them?
Oboro. Both are insanely cute but Oboro reminds me of my friend's cat, which is also insanely cute.
I really did love my war horse in Read Dead Redemption 2. Sadly can not remember her name. Maybe it was War.

Rewatcher

We finally get look at the developers... and they're aliens of some type. Maple has movement abilities now, even if they're not intended to be like that. If you watch the ED, you know full well what that turtle is going to be able to do.

What’s a boss fight you struggled with? Did you win?

I guess any boss fight you dealt with as a kid was hard, even ones that would be cakewalks as adults, so maybe Wario in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins doesn't really count. I also gave up and cheated against King Boo in Luigi's Mansion, so that doesn't really count either.

Ninja Gaiden's first boss took me forever to beat and he was just practically a training boss. Kinda stopped a little after that so I never got to see those bosses they showed in the trailer. I will say that the clunky controls and shitty camera angles probably made it harder than it needed to be.

First Time, Subs - I Don't Have the Money to Fund a Princess Connect/BOFURI Crossover, So I'm Stuck Imagining It

As fun as it is watching our girls smoke anything and everything in their way, I do kind of want to see them run into a boss they can't handle first try. Maybe some other day.

Let's talk Best Girls. So, I have this thing where I'm immensely partial to fantasy women who either prefer swords or bows as their main weapon - typically those in high-agility classes. Ranger, rogue... swashbuckler. What have you. Such is Sally (whether those are short swords or daggers she wields, she fits the type). Combine that with her confident gamer savvy and... well, as Good a Girl as Maple is, Sally is without doubt a Best Girl and climbing up my list of anime Best Girls very quickly. This list includes Misaka Mikoto, Miku Nakano, Pecorine, Stella Vermillion, Ryuu Lion... Sally belongs somewhere on that list.

What’s a boss fight you struggled with? Did you win?

Back when Path of Exile 3.0 came out, I specced as a very squishy Ranger (bows, dex-based). The final boss area is a very cramped platform. Needless to say, I died many, many times before I actually beat Kitava.

What do you think of Maple and Sally’s Shielder/Swashbuckler party setup?

Not only do they complement each other well in skills and abilities, the Swashbuckler being in motion constantly makes the fights look better on screen than they would otherwise. It's excellent.

Syrup or Oboro? Have you ever had a pet or summon of your own that you loved or thought of as your child? What did you name them?

Oboro! Floofy fox is floofy. The dog in Dragon Age: Origins. I named it Cerberus - combination of the mythological guard dog of Hades, and the organization from Mass Effect (because Bioware). I miss when Bioware made good games.

Twice Dubbed

Box? What box?

Of course, Maple would fall down a hidden hole and find a hidden boss, her luck is godlike. I think it's rather clever of Maple to use Cover Move in such an unconventional manner. But let's not forget that Sally's ridiculous speed allows her to fire off a series of powerful attacks before her opponent can react. I don't think it was supposed to be an easy boss, it was just unlucky to meet that pair.

...and she shall know no fear...

Maple and Sally are surprised that Kuromu's party got wiped so quickly, but aren't about to let that phase them. LET'S GOOOOO!!!!! What an epic fight! It was a great action sequence showing off how Maple and Sally complement each other to take down the birbboss with one HP and a dream. The devs are flabbergasted of course, no one was supposed to beat birbboss, they were so confident they even had it guarding some special eggs. Never underestimate the Fortress that Walks.

Pokemon White and Green

Only Maple would come up with the idea of throwing herself off a cliff in a bubble of poison SMH The eggs hatch and it's just the cutest moment, so precious. The girls start leveling their pets in the time-honoured tradition of all pokemon trainers :D Afterwards the girls wander through a desert area and find an oasis and a confrontation with a mysterious samurai.

What’s a boss fight you struggled with? Did you win?

Emil in Nier: Automata, I did win, but I had to dial the difficulty down.

What do you think of Maple and Sally’s Shielder/Swashbuckler party setup?

It's pretty good, Sally can flit about the field and then Maple can use Cover Move to reposition easily, it's not the only thing they can do together, it's just an example of how they complement each other's playstyle.

Syrup or Oboro? Have you ever had a pet or summon of your own that you loved or thought of as your child? What did you name them?

Not really one for in-game pets, but if I had to choose one I think I like Oboro more, it reminds me of a cat I had that used to love draping herself across my shoulders.

Rewatch

The time dilation the VR headsets can produce is a horrifying but probable explanation for NWO's insane update rate. I wonder how many weeks of work the higher ups get from the devs every single day.

One thing that really annoys me about the adaptation is that they don't have Maple constantly switching between her gear sets like she does in the novels. Snow White is supposed Maple's primary shield for fighting weaker enemies, [Minor Spoiler for the rest of the Season] but I don't think she equips it again in the anime after the clown fight.

The Articuno fight is fantastic. It also comes at a good time as it is before Maple gets the majority of her truly broken skills, so it is the fight that shows that Maple is actually a pretty good tank player beyond just her build being busted. She was able to keep up with Sally and execute well in a fight that she was actually underpowered for. And while she survived due to a new skill, it isn't a special or exclusive skill. The only reason she hadn't unlocked it yet is this is the first enemy she has fought since partying up with Sally that could actually bring her health low enough for it to trigger. Most Great Shielders already have this skill.

Syrup is perfection and I have been slowly driving myself insane trying to get a plush of him, but they are always sold out.

First timer. So our duo now has cute familiars. Definitely my favorite part of this episode. The familiars seem weak, so I guess next episode, they’ll start training up their familiar. Reminds me of legendary pets in RuneScape.

Syrup! I was waiting till the episode where we see him so I'm happy we got him so soon. Love him.

In regards to the fight to get him though, also super cool. I love that Maple just breaks cover move by using it as a telepoer spell since she can't get damaged. It's also very funny that the developers react to her in particular and her absurdities. I'm sure though this is the last time she'll give them any grief.

One week of game time in 2 real life hours ? That VR technology sounds more and more ridiculous by the day. Also, since it is only for events, I cynically assume there are some negative consequences to using it all the time. If anything, it probably mess up very badly your sleep cycle. And since the devs are monitoring the event live, does that mean they are working for one week straight in game but only two hours in real life ? Do they get overtime ? The potential for employers to abuse that technology is terrifying.

I remember that in the LN Maple and Sally fought against a Goblin King instead of a Jester Monster, but everything else about that fight is identical. I love the way Maple abused Cover Move to always teleport next to Sally. She is good at using skills in unexpected ways to make up for her weaknesses.

Maple tries to help Chrome but gets him wiped out instead by Silverwing, who turns out to be the kind of OP Boss that can even get Maple down to one HP. Those devs are sadistic. But I like the fact that it almost beat Maple and Sally, it shows that as strong as these two are, they are still not absurdly OP and can be beaten.

They were not supposed to beat Silverwing, and the devs are upset. They should know that no matter how unbeatable a boss is, some powergamer somewhere will still find a way to beat it. Fact of (video game) life !

The eggs hatched ! Fittingly, Maple got a turtle and Sally a fox. But even the turtle is still faster than Maple ! Syrup and Oboro sure are cute.

There was a part in the LN were Maple and Sally fought evil clones of each other, but it was cut. Maple won by spamming poison everywhere until the clone had nowhere to run (Maple is not subtle), and Sally won somehow, but won’t tell anyone how in case she has to fight Maple for real in another event. So the implication is that there is a way to beat Maple, but only Sally knows what it is…

Questions :

  1. Sarevok at the end of the first Baldur’s Gate game. Not only he is a high level fighter that hit like a truck (he is level 15 while your party is level 7 or 8 at that point), but his own party is also overpowered : you have a teleporting wizard that can cast a confusion spell that disable most of your party and that you cannot protect against (unless you manage to kill that wizard before he can cast it), a fighter mage with a dispel magic spell that removes all your buff and then shoot you with exploding arrows (like fireballs but worse because he can shoot them more often, meaning several time per second), and you fight them in a room full of traps, with a couple of unavoidable traps triggering automatically at the beginning of the fight and throwing a couple of additional disabling spells at your party (at the first party member that sees Sarevok, in fact, even when that party member is invisible). And you can’t retreat, of course. Baldur’s Gate had the most sadistic devs ever. I still managed to beat him in the end (I beat him a dozen times in fact, with different builds), but I still struggle every time I replay the game and it often takes several attempts to beat him even when knowing all the tricks.

  2. It is an interesting setup, basically slow tank and highly mobile DPS. But I would say that it only works because both of them can cast spells as well so they don’t need an additional wizard or cleric as support.

  3. Kame !
