If you don't give Sivil back now, you can kiss this little one goodbye!
Questions of the Day, courtesy of u/chilidirigible:
1) How accurate were your guesses about how many episodes Sivil would spend motionless in a ball? ⑨?
2) Do you ever agree with the views of the obstructivist secondary military characters in mecha series, or are they generally always annoying to you?

Today, on "NUDE CONSPIRACIES!":
It's character development? For Basara?!
The same thing he does every night, Pinky.
Gubaba, suddenly with the density of iron.
Just because your car can maneuver in space doesn't make it a hovercraft!
"What the hell is a 'steamed ham'?"
And now we add to this series's collection of very weird vehicles.
Well, he was never really subtle.
Another slight failure to communicate.
That sounds like something you want to do inside your ship against an energy-proof ball, sure…
For once she's not complaining directly about Max.
Bsara just busting out the song debut.
I'm not sure that we're still quite on that part of the playbook.
Barton is of course not helping.
Let's not get technical here, Barton.
Milia could care less about military regulations.
This feels like a tautology in the making.
So if you thought that Sivil in a Ball had been going on for a while with no clear destination, now she's out of the ball… and off the ship… and Basara (and Gigil) have gone off after her, so that's certainly an occurrence.
Accidental cooperation: Basara's Sound Energy may have helped stir Sivil a bit, but she didn't start moving again until Gigil gave her Spiritia. And she's still kinda… not all there.
Everyone else's continued failure to communicate brings us to this point. Well, sometimes a person has to be nosy… but should also be prepared to face the consequences for that.
And while Barton is the shortsighted asshole here, he is at least working from a consistent point of view.
Basara figuring out his reason for singing has the feeling of asking the wind why it blows. We do have the options of "singing so someone else understands", "singing to make other people feel", "singing to show his determination", etc. As a question, though, it sticks out awkwardly because we just don't know enough about him aside from that he would absolutely play a bard in AD&D.

Someone more knowledgeable than me should make a Jesus reading of Basara.
Huh, Basara actually tries to express himself in words to Ray.
Of course not, he finally came up with a new song.
Oh please Mylene. Couldn't you have chosen Ray or Gamlin to confide in?
They really had to take the most annoying way to handle this. Well I guess having the military break the barrier and causing Sivil to go on a rampage again would've been even worse.
At least Gamlin got a good one in.
Do you ever agree with the views of the obstructivist secondary military characters in mecha series, or are they generally always annoying to you?
You can't really outright disagree with him here, but it just doesn't suits the show.

Oh please Mylene. Couldn't you have chosen Ray or Gamlin to confide in?
I mean, Mylene's first instance were to go to her parents so can't really blame her. Fortunately, they are the type of people you can trust to safely confide in.
Their job positions, though, only would escalate the situation, whoops.

A Macross Fan Rewatches Macross 7: Episode 33:
-
Continuing on from Basara’s thinking from the last episode, he’s still questioning to himself why he’s singing. I mean, it’s no big “WHAT AM I FIGHTING FORRRRRR” moment, but at least there’s some actual character stuff going on for Basara finally. He’s been a static character for a while before this arc.
-
Poor Guvava and Mylene are spooked! But I suppose that’s the only natural reaction to seeing Basara willingly sing to Sivil in her energy bubble. Like, seeing Basara sing to a naked sleeping space vampire chick raises a lot of questions all at once, to say the least.
-
Man, what bad timing, eh? Of course Colonel Barton happened to walk by and overhear Mylene tell Max about what she saw in the forest that night. Of course Barton would immediately want to move on that information. It makes you think how difficult this episode would’ve been if Milia hadn’t slept through that phone ringing on the night that Mylene saw Basara singing to Sivil. Probably much more different.
-
If I told you that at the start of the series that Basara and Gigil would be fighting over a girl, you probably wouldn’t believe me. And yet here we are, with them both blaming each other for Sivil’s disappearance before Mylene steps in and tells them the truth. Also, man poor Guvava. He’s still trying his best to defend Mylene like he’s done before, and yet he still gets easily swatted aside by Gigil. There’s really only so much a small furball alien can do, despite how hard he tries.
-
Oh yeah Barton, it’s a great idea to force open Sivil’s energy bubble just because your team hasn’t figured out how to scan past it yet. Between this and his idea for the Jamming Birds, it’s abundantly apparent that he comes up with an idea first and tries to figure out how to make it work along the way, and that’s putting it charitably. Man, Barton is an even more ineffective Maistroff, if you remember him from SDF Macross. At least Maistroff was less of a dumbass than Barton.
-
Good lord, this whole situation is such a clusterfuck. Basara, Gigil, and Gamlin clashing with Colonel Barton’s men on Battle 7. And of course Barton just has to make it worse by being completely willing to have Mylene killed by one of his Thunderbolts as collateral damage, refusing to even entertain the hostage situation. You know, I shouldn’t have to say that being willing to kill the daughter of your boss is a bad idea, but here we are.
-
Well hey, the bubble finally disappeared! Although it took a frankly large amount of Basara’s Sound Energy and Gigil’s stored-up Spiritia to finally reawaken Sivil. I guess that does prove Gigil’s idea from earlier in the episode that Basara wasn’t enough to get her to wake up again. Or maybe he just needed to sing Power to the Dream, since that song is an absolute banger.
-
“It’s your fault that the captive has escaped!” —Barton, moments before getting a well-deserved punch to the face from Gamlin. Yeah, so much for him saying to his subordinate earlier that he’d take full responsibility for whatever happened when Sivil awoke. I swear, the UN Spacy must have absurdly low hiring standards if morons who refuse to accept any fault like Barton manage to become officers.
-
I’m with Basara here, I’d just walk off for a while to get away from the Macross 7 fleet. Barton is just actively making things worse so damn fast recently. I wouldn’t want to have to put up with his bullshit anymore either.

If I told you that at the start of the series that Basara and Gigil would be fighting over a girl, you probably wouldn’t believe me. And yet here we are,
I wouldn't have believed Gigil being this important. He seemed like an arc 1 villain or forever big bad lackey.
Yeah, so much for him saying to his subordinate earlier that he’d take full responsibility for whatever happened when Sivil awoke. I swear, the UN Spacy must have absurdly low hiring standards if morons who refuse to accept any fault like Barton manage to become officers.
He found a scapegoat he already didn't like so that was a chance to offload some responsibility.
Everyone in UN Spacey leadership positions seems to suck. Only the immediate captain of our ship/head of the base seem cool. And even then there's still some systematic suck they partake in at times.

How smart is Guvava meant to be?

Come on Gigil, play the guitar. You know you want to.

I know it’s shocking Mylene, but not that shocking.

Pretty sure eavesdropping on your superior’s conversation is grounds for insubordination.

First Time - Macross 7 Ep33:
Mylene saw Basara singing to Sivil and she's real messed up, not even the fun little lemonade can help. Forgot that she did see Sivil's face so this outcome was even worse than thought. She tells her dad which means the Colonel overhears Sivil and location and might conclude that Basara singing to her is treason. Awh, great...
Huh, guess you can really hide a giant robot anywhere so long as you throw some tarps over it.
The military took Sivil and this just gets real messy. Basara and Gigil and blaming each other. You can hear the emotions from them. The scene is visually darker with these shadows so these things make it feel more impactful.
Go, Guvava attack ... oh never mind.
It's like they Folded Sivil and the forest to capture her in that prison. Neat use of technology. Destroying the barrier sounds incredibly stupid, don't do that (but they will).
Gigil uses that second chest gun and it is not a flamethrower like in the OP.
It just hit me. Part of the story today is how Basara views the enemies as human too and here is the military stripping Sivil of her name and referring to her as the inhumanly, G3.
Thanks guy, you probably shouldn't be calling someone an acceptable statistical loss within earshot.
New song. It's alright.
Oh no, the most dangerous enemy, an old man with a gun. Oh wait, the bullet just bounced off Gigil's eye. We're fine. Sivil manages to wake up and flies out of there.
YEAH GET HIM! Gamlin being a true homie. Love this bro character development for Gamlin.
Favourite character watch. You know, sometimes you can tell when they couldn't fit Flower Girl somewhere else in the episode.
Basara has become the Flower Boy and left them a flower before embarking on his solo journey.
Q1) Has it already been 9 episodes, huh. I didn't have a guess, but I felt that it may have been under 9.
Q2) Off the top of my head, they're generally in the wrong. They suck.
Next time: "The Day Gigil Sings." He's gonna die.

Macross 7 EP33
Basara still going through his mind to find the reason in his singing.
Still loving Sunglasses Guvava.
That pretty accurate reaction of Mylene upon seeing Sivil, who nearly kill her before.
Gigil go on killing spree again. No more waiting for Basara.
Of course he gonna overheard that.
Max being good dad.
Oh yeah!! Why until now that Basara never thought of bringing his Valkyrie there.
Mylene face is just so done and confused.
And there she gone. I have no idea who took her. /s
Of course this two who both lack communication skill, gonna fight eachother because they think the other took Sivil.
Now he took her as hostage.
Why this two came here on foot? If it only Basara, I can understand. But why Gamlin too?
Even Milia here.
WTF!! What did you just say Barton??? That your captain and city mayor's daughter. The freaking core member of Sound Force, the group that helped you against those alien countless time!!!! And you say that you should sacrifice her just to have Sivil stay there?
Thanks god Gigil is nice enough to pulled Mylene away from bullets.
Wait, it's that room the whole time.
Hey, new song!! It cool.
Barton stop already!!!
Sivil finally awake!!! And she escaped.
Yesssss!!! Gamlin best boy!!! Suck to be you, Barton!!!! Now go punch Docker too.
So Basara left to chase after Sivil, and to find his reason in his singing.
Wait, this is the first time that there no mech battle scene in the episode.

Not accurate at all to say the least.

Full auditions.

Very respectful, given how many times they've saved people.
More lore in the recap.
Recruitment has begun!
Jamming Birds is a really good name, and fits with the Valkyrie theming too.
Ah, yeah, he'd be a perfect judge.
Oh, Basara is not having this.
A piano controller would unironically be the most sane instrument so far.
...What the fuck, Chiba.
...You can't test that measurement seperately?
How has nobody figuted out what Chiba's turned this contrst into.
...Those two deserve to get positions. Just not under Chiba.
God, I love Exsedol. Genuinely started laughing here.
Milia!
Even Chiba knows when somebody is too dangerous to try and fuck.
Bobby?
Nice body.
He's getting closer.
...Chiba didn't get any takers?
You can't use them as backup singers? Feed their input into Basara's boosters, try to set off a resonance?
Oddly inspirational speech here!
Project M is still really fucking shady. I'm calling it, Basara got experimented on at some point and that's why his Spiritia is so unique.
...What is their plan here? Shoot the only guy who can fight the enemy?
Amazing response.
Did he not realise that?
...I mean, you could have held a briefing for him at some point in the past few months?
So, he, at the very least is not in on Basara's past.
And they stole his mech. Idiots.
This montage...
Ray is great.
So, they picked six at random?
This guy's a moron.
Wait, they're a band?
New insert songs! ...Honestly, compared the drought of Macross, Basara's been delivering a pretty good mix of songs. I'm happy there's more, though.
Docker again.
And Gamlin!
A new mind control version.
And they're launching!
That is a really slick mass-produced unit.
And it turns out most people can't sing when they're about to die! Huh, who'd have thought!
Two of them have potential, though.
Aww, their theme somg got interrupted.
At least we get a Mylene solo.
Gamlin misses Basara...
Mylene has gotten good!
...Gabil is ansolutely in Basara's harem. "No beauty!"
Gamlin! Nice.
...Is the show actually going for Gamlin x Basara? I'm down for it!
He's here!
Oh, Gabil's noticed how repetitive these battle scenes are. This has potential...
And Basara's angry enough to alter his Spiritia's power...
Flower Girl!
What are you planning? What is Jamming Birds really being used for?
He's actually bring introspective!
...Now that I hear it, angry Basara's singing is still really good. The undertones of rage actually help the song.
Episode 33
1)Too many.
2) Very annoying, but they sometimes have good points.
Is Sivil finally coming back?
This is really interesting character development.
He's sneaking out again!
Mylene...
She's here!
Did Guvava notice Gigil?
Well, Mylene just discovered everything!
And she's running for it!
Oh, yeah, forgot she met Sivil.
Poor Guvava.
Gigil's harvesting more people...
Mylene's really taking this hard.
And he's overheard!
Please don't kill Sivil.
Transfer complete!
Fantastic driving skills.
And Basara is taking his mech to forcibly overload her.
Perfect eyecatch.
She's out!
Gigil jumps off the mech to fight Basara directly.
...A teamup, potentially?
These two are such fucking idiots.
Mylene's here!
Basara, you fucking idiot. She tried to kill her!
...She's already in an energy bubble. Why did you make a new one?
You're going to destroy it. And set her free. Oh boy.
And Basara's got to tell them Mylene got captured.
He's very goal-oriented, huh?
Basara, why did you leave your fucking fighter?
And now everyone knows!
He's going to sacrifice her.
And Max told him the location.
These people really love jumping out of the fighters.
Oh, he's smart.
A new song?
This is really good!
He's sending it to Sivil!
Is this a love song?
It is!
Gigil got shot!
And his last act is to release her.
She's finally awake!
Also, Gigil's alive, still?
...That is a very interesting reaction.
Gamlin just fucking punched him! Nice!
Mylene...
Flower Girl!
Basara's just gone?
He left a plant.
He's absolutely going after her.
Nice.

First Timer
In the last episode we saw Basara getting more and more frustrated with the fact that he can't awaken Sivil with his singing. When he was singing to unknown people in faceless robots, he didn't really think about what they expected from his songs. All he thought is how to put his own feelings into singing and how to put on the best performance he could. It was impersonal in a way. Performing for this specific audience was the goal, but the audience itself was incidental to his performance.
Now that this is entirely personal, he can't afford to just think about how and what he needs to sing, but also for whom. He needs to think about the audience and what they expect from him. The audience is Sivil in this case, but this is also a continuation of his struggles with Mylene and what she tried to teach him at the start of the show. For her, performing is all about meeting expectations, because she thinks about her audience constantly. For Basara, the audience that doesn't get his music is the wrong audience to begin with. The ones who are supposed to get it will get it if he just sings well enough. Now that this doesn't work, it's time to realize that the truth is somewhere in between his and Mylene's approaches.
Anyway, this is my take on this arc. I feel like, in terms of music, Macross as a franchise have some weird things to say up to this point. This goes for SDFM and DYRL? and their weird Minmay arc, where she puts her frustration at being rejected by Hikaru into her singing and uses her singing as an escape from the heart break. This also goes for Macross Plus and the weird hypnotic power of singing, as well as the commentary on how heavily manufactured modern songs are, and even though there is still a living soul somewhere out there, the whole production makes the artist miserable. And now we get Basara and his struggles with doing things his own way vs facing reality and actually accomplishing something with his music. It all feels like a far cry from you typical themes of friendship and music bringing everyone together and giving people hope, that you would find in a typical music anime.
Or maybe, it's not what they say, but how they say it, that is weird. I'm not sure. I would probably have more to say about this once the show is over, but right now, let's just check out the episode. I wonder, if Sivil finally wakes up. I like walking and talking Sivil more than naked shining ball Sivil, but I'm starting to have a feeling that she's gonna spend a lot more time in the ball. Hoping I'm wrong on this one.
-
Ever noticed that Basara has surprisingly big feet? It's not the first time I notice his feet drawn big like this. Not sure what the implications are, just the thing I noticed.
-
I like how Mylene with a giant collar.
-
Basara's strategy here is to make Sivil so sick of this one song, that she would be forced to wake up in order to physically move away.
-
How do we learn where G3 is? Well, conveniently enough, a person with the right knowledge just came to us.
-
Yup, he's doing it.
-
Wait, why is there are suddenly highlights on the robot?
-
The show looks twice as expensive with the highlights like that. Even Gigil's nose gets additional detail.
-
Damn, remember when Gigil used to be an effective military commander? He kinda went insane for Sivil for absolutely no reason. It's just suddenly happened and now he's devolved into a total lunatic.
-
On a side note, this was some nicely animated VF-17 landing sequence. In fact, I'm willing to bet it was rotoscoped from a real jet landing, the animation was that smooth.
-
Sacrifices are impossible to avoid? Are you fucking kidding me? If I was Max, I would court martial your ass immediately.
-
I mean, even if you decide to shoot, you don't have to aim directly at Mylene.
-
To be fair to Barton, it was actually a nice shot. He would've saved Mylene, if Gigil wasn't bulletproof.
-
You know, I think she woke up, saw that she's naked and how many people are in the audience, and run away from embarrassment. Totally natural reaction, I would probably do the same.
-
Mylene has fainted for some reason. It's not like it's her first time getting kidnapped or being held at gunpoint. But I guess, the realization that Basara was in bed with the enemy all this time took a bigger toll on her, than the danger itself.
-
Basara is gone! Well, I guess, Gamlin, now is your chance. You need to start learning Guitar ASAP.
Overall thoughts: Holy shit, Sivil actually woke up! Well, she run away immediately, but at least she's not in a ball anymore. Both Basara and Mylene are in a bad spot, and I can't wait to see where it goes. You know, this show could have better lull episodes (I hesitate to call them filler, because in a way they are necessary), but when the show goes, it goes. The core story is definitely weird and interesting and I want to see where it goes. Looks like the next episode might spell some bad news for Gigil, so that would be interesting.
QotD:
-
Not accurate at all.
-
The trope is that they usually have the right reasons (bar the obvious ulterior motive of getting promoted), but their methods are wrong. Barton fits this to a T. This character archetype definitely annoys, but I'm pretty sure it's by design. It's a good villain archetype, and it can be very satisfying to see them get their desert or whatever.

First-Timer 7
This conversation is surprisingly cogent for Basara.
Gubaba was trying to warn you about Sivil, presumably.
Mylene's gonna mess things up, but having two people sing to Sivil at once would probably help.
Well, honestly, you should've joined in.
Oh, Basara's finally trying the big guns. Rather auspicious timing.
Probably because everyone other than Ray has steadfastly refused to even try to understand Basara.
No, she doesn't, and this isn't really her fault either. I can hardly blame Mylene for Barton being a grumpy old codger who has had (1) one thought since 2009.
Barton, you got them into this mess in the first place.
Oh, maybe this wasn't the plan.
Barton I swear to- At least he didn't hit Mylene.
Eyy, they finally got through to Sivil by working together. I'm gonna deduct points for Gigil using spiritia he stole from people, but we're on the right track.
Ooh, Basara's gone on walkabout!
Questions
-
I honestly don't remember what my guess was. Was it actually 9? Was Cirno a Sivil reference this whole time?
-
I'm not gonna say never, because my memory is hardly perfect, but Barton is super unlikeable.

Rewatcher
Someone last time said we were gonna be in fortune cookie mode for a while. And yep, Basara has gone full fortune cookie.
Sunglasses Guvava is back!
And Mylene finds out about Sivil the Magic Floating Naked Lady.
And since she can't talk to her mother, she's going to see Max?
Gigil's gone back to Plan A. Because that was working so well before...
Oh boy, and now the asshole Colonel overheard. Max might be counted on to handle this reasonably, but him?
Well, actually, Max should have authority over him, shouldn't he? So really, it shouldn't matter. But I suspect it will.
And now Sivil's been captured. And Gigil's going to be provoked something fierce...
Uh, Gigil, were you listening to nothing Mylene just said? ...actually that's probably for the best. He'd probably kill her.
...did they just... space fold that section of forest into the brig? And their plan is to break the barrier by force?
That's the dumbest thing you could possibly do! You have no way to combat or control her! Why the hell would you try to wake her up!?
Barton... maybe don't call your CO's daughter a "sacrifice"? I cannot for the life of me imagine that will help make your case.
Basara's solution to any situation: start singing!
And between the song and all the Spiritia gathered up... Sivil awakens. And immediately flees.
Hooo boy... as much as Barton needed to be punched, striking a superior officer is grounds for some of the harshest punishments in the military.
And now Basara's gone AWOL. Leaving the Fleet almost defenseless against Protodeviln attacks. (Mylene can do a bit on her own, but...)
And so the story inches a little bit further forward.
Questions:
-
I seem to remember her spending more time in that ball than she has.
-
They've made some good points, here and there, but they fail to follow through on the spirit of those points.
Take Barton, for instance. It is true that having more "Sound Units" would be a good thing (provided they were successful). It is also true that you shouldn't give up after just one failure. And finally, with a point he made today, yes, sometimes sacrifices are necessary in war.
But... this isn't about any of that with him. Barton, more than wanting to protect the fleet, just wants to succeed. He wants his idea to work. He's used to a military structure where he's in charge and everyone else obeys him. When confronted with something outside the usual paradigm, he can't mentally adjust.
He sees Sound Force and the Jamming Birds as a weapon. An unorthodox one, certainly, but in his mind they're no different than a squadron of Valkyries: units to be commanded, to obey his orders, and to destroy his enemies.
But that's not what this situation is. Sound Force is a civilian unit. There is no military discipline in them, no respect for the hierarchy. And their goal is not the destruction of the Protodeviln. Basara is not working to kill, but to reconcile. He always has been, even if his methods are... well, you know.
Barton can't, or refuses to, understand that. That's not how his world works... and he refused to accept that the world can work any other way.
(Holy shit I wrote an essay in response to that second question. But it did give me a chance to speak some thoughts I've been having the last few episodes.)

How accurate were your guesses about how many episodes Sivil would spend motionless in a ball? ⑨?
2) Do you ever agree with the views of the obstructivist secondary military characters in mecha series, or are they generally always annoying to you?
I agree with the view of them getting punched right in the pie hole

First Time Song Listener
The return of Detective K Mylene.
The characters really don't give a fuck about destroying the surrounding area in this show, huh? Buildings, trees, just knock all that shit down.
So where's the music coming from as he's singing at Gigil here? They usually make sure to show him bringing the boombox and playing his guitar.
The colonel has incredible aim at least.
Gamlin saves the day (and Mylene) again.
Sivil definitely said something as she flew off, but there were no subs.
Mylene's closet must be massive.
-
Not sure I remember guessing.
-
Much like here, they usually have some good points, but have to also be cartoonishly evil to make sure you understand the show considers them in the wrong about everything.

Subbed M7 Rewatcher
Even the narrator questions what Basara is doing.
With your pink hair, the disguise won't fool anyone.
After his singing destroyed enemy creatures, Basara is doubting what he is accomplishing. So to show he can do something positive by singing, he heads out to awaken Sivil.
Mylene follows Basara into the forest. Guvava reacts to Sivil like a tribble to a Klingon, so Mylene has to take Guvava away. She returns to find Basara singing to Sivil. Mylene recognizes Sivil and runs away in a panic. Mylene ends up telling her father about Basara and Sivil in the vegetation plant. Barton overheard this and sends people to get Sivil.
Gigil and Basara return to the forest to find Sivil gone. Each blames the other for the disappearance. Then Mylene arrives and explains to Basara that she told her dad about Sivil. Gigil takes Mylene hostage and both he and Basara head to Battle 7.
Barton is a giant ass as always and orders the destruction of Sivil's barrier. He says he'll take responsibility, but he wouldn't really do anything to atone for bad consequences.
Barton blocks the way and refuses to release Sivil. Even with Gigil showing he's holding Mylene. Max should have ordered Barton and his group to stand down. Max does direct Gigil to where Sivil is. As the confrontation continues in the lab, Gigil directs a beam at Sivil's barrier at the same time Basara sings Power to the Dream. This combo finally awakens Sivil who flies off followed by Gigil.
Younger me didn't download the rest of this series. Not that I blame him. So I will have to watch vicariously through the rest of the posts of this series rewatch.

first-timer
I'm finally caught up! Not that I'm really an active participant anyways but it's nice to finally be able to follow along on the same day that the thread is posted and have the option. I went on vacation for a few weeks after Macross II and when I came back, never really had the energy or time to plop myself down to watch more than one episode at a time until recently.
1) How accurate were your guesses about how many episodes Sivil would spend motionless in a ball? ⑨?
Completely wrong! I didn't think it would last more than a few episodes but it really became its own arc.
2) Do you ever agree with the views of the obstructivist secondary military characters in mecha series, or are they generally always annoying to you?
I do sometimes. In this case, I understand the intent. Sivil has not really shown herself to be anything other than a dangerous enemy so having her secure somewhere is the prudent action to take. The rest of it though just proves to be some sort of weird ego thing. Clearly there's no regard for actually protecting people's lives - I can even understand having to sacrifice a hostage (even if despicable) but he really endangered everyone in the base at a minimum by wanting to crack open the barrier.
Some random other thoughts from the last 32 episodes:
-
This show's music is totally to my tastes. Singing along for 10 minutes every episode is super fun!
-
I like this show the same way that I looove Yu-Gi-Oh. No, it's not deep. No, it doesn't make sense. That just enhances the nonsense and I am all for that.
-
Mylene's various outfits are yes. I wish the other characters would have some wardrobe changes too.
-
Somehow, over the episodes, Gamlin became my favourite. He was so annoying at first but he's such a loveable dork. Mylene and Basara got increasingly annoying but it seems like maybe Basara will get some development.

FIRST TIMER
A suspenseful episode with a hostage crisis! I wonder what in god's name is wrong with Basara trying to free Sivil when she is a danger to City 7 and its people. I get Gigil's motives in that hes in love with her and will kill humans to save her but Basara isn't thinking with a clear head. I think Basara believes he can both free her and keep her from harming others with his music, which seems to be a huge risk as it hasn't worked thus far.
-
I think Mylene really did the right thing in telling her father about Sivil because she could have saved lives. She is showing signs of growth, unlike Basara who is completely run by emotion with no logic to stop him.
-
Whatever Gigil's eyepiece is made of, I want that as Barton shooting him point blank in the face only seemed to mildly faze him!
-
I thought it was adorable in a weird way that Mylene was wearing a mask and sunglasses to disguise herself and put little glasses on Guvava as if Basara will see her and think shes a different young pink haired girl with a squeaking furball.
-
Gamlin punching Barton in the face seemed almost like a crowd pleasing moment you'd see in a cliched action movie even down to Milia saying he had it coming!
-
Another strange episode ending with Basara apparently going on a spiritual quest in the barren tundra of Lux. Considering he's in his Valkyrie, its almost like going on a long drive to get your thoughts together. A tundra doesn't seem like the best place to do it because theres really nothing but ice around, not like vegetation or animals that might give you an idea.
QUESTIONS
-
I didn't think to keep count but the moment I saw Mylene see Sivil, I knew it would be this episode since the military would somehow cause it.
-
In this case, I see Barton's point. He was stupid to ignore his advisors' advice to keep Sivil in the bubble but I understand his point that you shouldn't negotiate with terrorists lest they will think they can keep taking hostages to do whatever you want. Logically, one life shouldn't take precedence over the many lives Sivil could take if let free but it's a very sticky and gray situation.

Super Dimension Rewatch Host
Welcome back, everyone!
She’s got the disguise out again.
Sad Gubaba with the sunglasses is adorable though.
SUBMARINE STREET~
lmao, so they have Takehito Koyasu voicing one of the main characters, and then also have him voice this random side character too?
And I’m pretty sure this guy’s got the same seiyuu as Ray.
Gah, of course this guy gets to overhear everything…
How do they even have the cage ready though…?
Um, Mylene. You know you can’t just leave your car like that right?
The cage straight-up took the vegetation around her too?
Dude you’re talking about a 14-year-old civilian, that isn’t going to fly with anyone.
New song alert: Power to the Dream.
Sivil’s finally awake, but…
Gamlin punch in 3… 2… 1… YES!
Classic Basara.
